One of the best dining experiences that I have ever had! Staff were well trained and worked well as a team, from a floor manager checking in with us, our table server and the floor runner/server. My Toasted Honey Garlic Crunch salad was superb. Adding prawns is a must. The brie encroute was flaky, creamy, buttery atop a bed of blueberry coulis. Yummayyyy. My Pork Tenderloin with Spiced Fig Glaze was very tender - cooked to perfection. I ordered the Lime Creme Brulee to go and it was exactly how you might imagine - classic egg custard with a a citrusy tang of lime. Ooh! This place is fancy! Definitely date night material. We were traveling and liked the menu. The wait staff were better dressed than us (by far) though we weren't the only ones jeans. Lively redo in an historic Albany building. Lots of black and brass. Moody and cozy. Bummer that we were driving and couldn't take advantage of the extensive wine options. Food was tasty. Love, love, love Sweet Red Bistro! This is an absolute gem that we love so much, we actually came by two times during our most recent visit to the area. On our second trip on New Year's Eve, we headed to the older location on first street, where they were serving drinks and a champagne toast to kick off the new year. From their special NYE cocktail menu, I tried the Salsa while my partner tried the Midnight Manhattan. The Salsa was spicy (as advertised), and had a nice savory flavor with the jalapeño tequila, serrano rum, ancho Reyes chili liqueur and Calabrian chilis coming together to provide a balanced kick in the face. The Midnight Manhattan had an initial kick of rye whiskey, which softened into cinnamon and clove notes, before finishing with a chocolatey smoothness. After toasting to the New Year with Cindy and the rest of the patrons, we enjoyed a second round where I got the Sidecar while my partner got the Paper Aeroplane. The Sidecar was beautifully balanced with cognac, lemon, simple and orange liquer. It contrasted nicely with my first cocktail (the Salsa), which was tasty but savory and spicy, so the sweet smoothness provided a nice finish to the night. The Paper Aeroplane was the only slight miss of the night for us. The bourbon, aperol, amaro and lemon provided an interesting combination of flavors, although we felt the flavors didn't go together as well as in the other drinks. Overall, it was a charming and cozy way to ring in the new year and we are very thankful that Sweet Red Bistro is a part of downtown Albany, as the service and drinks (haven't tried the food yet) are top notch. Tonight we had the best meal that we've had in Albany for a very long time. We went to Sweet Reds bistro. Absolutely wonderful. The ambience was so beautiful, the waitress, Macy, was just a fantastic waitress. The drinks we had from the bar were the best drinks ever, we had the banana drink, and we had a peanut butter drink with the salt rim, and we had a old-fashioned. All of them were just incredible. We spoke to the owner, she is just a fantastic person. She runs her restaurant with such outstanding customer service. Just everything we had from the service to the food to the drinks was over the top. We will be going back soon. read more

Food was all very good. We were here celebrating my mom's 80th birthday. My little bro set up the reservation & we got to sit in a special space. LG booth at the back that could be draped off if you wanted it. Our server Macy did a great job of communicating options cause I am GF & I can eat any food not fully cooked. I had my steak med well and it was perfect. The charcuterie board was presented well and the cheeses pared well will all the other accoutrements. All the cocktail orders were on par all well received. The chicken was tender and juicy. The steelhead was grilled to perfection. Everyone was happy with their meals. Beyond 5 stars. My daughter 30th birthday yesterday. We were in Albany just meandering around and stopped in at 4:01 pm (they open at 4:00) and asked for table. We did not have reservations and they were lovely about seating us. The first greeting to the last best delicious cup of coffee I ever had was perfect. We shared the charcuterie board both had entrees and dessert (which they kindly packaged to go) as we were just about stuffed. We were there until 6:15 pm. They never rushed us even though the restaurant was packed and I was mindful that probably every table was reserved. The quality of food was excellent. Disappointed to say the least. Brought a good friend to dinner for their birthday and from minute one I knew it was a poor choice. The moment we walked in the door it was more of a bar atmosphere than romantic or classy. Ladies sitting at the bar were overserved and underdressed. Ordered our food right away and an hour later it was pretty clear they had either lost our order. The waitress was incredibly off putting as she would just come and stand by the table with a weird smile seemingly expecting something. When they finally came and took our bread plate away and asked if we wanted to order I knew it was over. Two separate waitresses went into the kitchen to "check on your order" and promptly never came back. Finally and hour and a half later the food came and was obviously thrown together quickly and underwhelming. Quite disappointed overall and I see why there were so many empty tables. I saw waitresses walking around with plates and drinks looking confused. They are clearly hired for their aesthetic versus any actual skills. At least a half dozen times we discussed just walking out. I have to say, NOT the place to take out of town guests especially for a special occasion. Two hours for some overcooked rubbery shrimp in a loud bar atmosphere and a bill that was not proportionate to the food or service we received. With so many other establishments to choose from this one won't be making the list again. read more

Sweet Red Bistro is proof you do not have to live in a big city to experience fine dining or an exquisite meal. I live in Chicago and noticed throughout my meal I would often forget I was eating in a small town in Oregon. The ambiance and feel of the restaurant was very warm. All of the patrons dining that night seemed to be in a good mood whether it was the handcraft cocktails or the delicious meal being the major contributor. I ordered the Chickpea Tikka Red Curry which was so authentic that the meal could've easily been served from an Indian restaurant. The Indian spices were simmered deeply into each ingredient making every bite to be savored. It was paired with white basmati rice that was slightly fluffy. The craft cocktails were made extremely well and worth the wait. The cocktails were not rushed but carefully crafted by including, what seemed to be, the freshest ingredients. While I did not have any wine, the list featured carefully selected west coast reds and whites as well as a few reds from Spain and Italy. read more

I absolutely love this place. We're stopped in assured a football game for a quick bite. It's open til 11 and the vibe was a tad European goth with moody lighting and great music. We both had the kale salad. A perfect symphony of lemon salt and a bit of garlic. We also had the fiery shrimp. So delicious. I had the maple walnut old fashioned. Subtle and classy. My wife and I went there for our 10 year anniversary dinner because it is where we had our first date. We were excited to go back due to the dinner menu we saw online. We were greeted very nicely and shown to our table. That's when things got awkward. Our waitress came to our table and just stared at us, not saying anything. So we had to say hi and she awkwardly said hi. Then finally asked what we to have to drink. From there it continued with awkwardness of the waitress. I will say the lady with short blonde hair was so nice and helpful. Checking on us frequently and more than our waitress did. The appetizer and salad we had was great.. my Rockfish was very good but unfortunately the Seafood pasta fell very short of our expectations. The very attentive blonde lady apologized for the food and took it back. 10 mins later our waitress came back to ask about the food we sent back and said she wished she knew. At that point they did offer us something else but by that time my meal was finished. She did offer us a desert on the house but we declined. She brought the bill saying that they took off the price of pasta but I checked, she made a mistake by only discounting $9 instead of the $30. Made her aware of the mistake and then we had to wait longer for that to be corrected. All in all I know they have good food but that night was a miss. read more

Went to Sweet Red Bistro for the first time tonight. The food & service was amazing. We tried the hatch chile artichoke dip for appetizer. It was fabulous! I had the steak & mushroom entree. Very tasty & my friend had the polenta & roasted veggies, looked delicious with bountiful veggies! I would definitely recommend Sweet Red Bistro for any special occasion (even if the special occasion is you love great food, great service, & great ambiance)! I can't imagine anyone wouldn't love it! Kudos to the fabulous chef! They also have what looks like a scrumptious dessert menu, & our server told us all pastries & desserts are made in house by their chef. First, I'd like to start off positive. The place is absolutely charming. I love the red theme and the decor. The waitress was also lovely. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience was not ideal. After ordering we were offered Bread, we thought it was complementary however when the bill came, it was not. The food took forever, it took so long that we had to cancel our plans that we had after dinner. When the food was brought to us, the salmon dish was delicious, but unfortunately, the other two dishes were disappointing. We ordered steak tips and we did not receive steak tips we received sliced steak. Although the steak was cooked to perfection, it was cold. So was the sauce on the side. And the mashed potatoes were so salty they were inedible. We ordered dessert and coffee, we received dessert, but never the coffee. When it was time to pay the check we asked for individual checks, but we were given checks that were split to the wrong amount. I was really looking forward to going to this restaurant however the food was disappointing and I felt like I wasted my money. read more

What a lovely place to grab dinner. We came here on a Friday night last month and enjoyed the food and cocktails. We made a reservation for 7 and was seated at the table right at the window and it was spacious enough for all of us. The place itself is small but feels very intimate and cozy. To share, we ordered: - Hatch Chili Artichoke Dip - bomb. Highly recommend - Truffle Burrata - Baked Brie + and order of grilled baguettes to pair with (these items are separate). Also bomb + highly recommend I, myself, ordered the Creamy Chicken Pesto Pasta, which I thought was great. Leans pretty heavy on the pesto side but I have no complaints. My boyfriend ordered the Beef Chimichurri and that was great as well. Lots of cocktails on their cocktail menu! I went with one of their valentines special and enjoyed it. Didn't get any photos unfortunately :( too hungry and busy conversing with my loved ones lol Parking is fairly easy as you can find street parking right out front or park in the lot right across as well. The food was amazing! We went to celebrate my cousin's birthday and they included a glass of bubbly on the house. While we absolutely loved everything we order our favorite was the bake bri with house made berry compote and baked bread. In addition my friend raved about the curry dish he ordered paired with the wild Z red wine. The ambiance was amazing and the service was impeccable. My wife and I came here for our 15 year wedding anniversary. I made the reservations through their website. All was pretty simple. You can request inside or outside. We chose inside and I made a note that it was our 15 year anniversary. We arrived just a tad early, boy it was busy in there, especially up front where it was standing room only. We hardly waited at all though. They had a table waiting in the back corner for us. After being seated, we waited about ten minutes before someone came over and realized we hadn't been given menus yet. She left and came back within seconds. Soon after, the owner (Cyndi) came by and greeted us. Cyndi told us a little bit about the restaurant (her son is the chef, everything is made to order, etc.). She also informed us that the restaurant recently received the Best Mixed Drinks in Willamette Valley! So we put her to the test. I had a Diet Coke (lol) and my wife had "Cyndi's Sidecar," which was recommended by Cyndi herself. Cyndi had taken an order from a larger table next to us just moments earlier, so she offered to put ours in ahead of theirs if we knew what we wanted. My wife had the pasta with beef tips and I had the steak (sorry Cyndi, I forgot the fancy names). We also had the truffle cheese platter (sorry again) and the Kale Salad. My wife got to try a couple drinks as we waited for our food. She said the Sidecar was perhaps the best drink she had ever had! My wife also really liked the Siracha drink too. Dinner came! The pasta looked great. I had a bite and found it full of flavor and it went amazing with the beef tip for a protein. Portion size was great, in fact, my wife didn't even finish. :-) The steak was also great. Juicy and perfectly cooked. I will say though, the portion size was rather small. $38 and I think I may have got an 6 or maybe 8 ounce cut with a small sprinkling of the tillamook topping. I remember getting that deflated feeling when the dish arrived. Also, the "smashed potatoes" were just a tad too bland. Asparagus was cooked perfectly though!!! Whatever the size though, it was still very flavorful! Just wish there was a little more to enjoy. The whole dish didn't take very long to finish, so I found myself eating bread while my wife finished her dinner. I nearly put a four star instead of five for this, but in recognizing how great the service was, and the attentiveness of each staff member who came by to fill drinks, etc, Cyndi and friends earned the five for sure. Dessert came. They had a lemon cheesecake option, but we opted for the triple chocolate. Yowza! That was a good choice still. Aside from the portion, my only other negative surprise was you get charged for each Diet Coke you order. I wasn't expecting that, especially this day and age. Honestly, I'm a little upset at myself for not coming here sooner. The romantic setting, great personal conversation with the owner and the great staff in whole really make for creating a memorable evening. read more

Celebrated my husbands birthday this evening at Sweet Red. We started with the cheese and charcuterie board which was an absolute work of art. Besides it being beautifully displayed the variety of cheese, meats & fruits were plentiful and delicious. Detailed with pickled onions, olives, mustard, nuts, and honey. The atmosphere was relaxing even though the restaurant was bustling with business. Loved the stunning decor with metal ceiling tiles, chandeliers, cushioned seating in red and black colors. The drinks were signature and represented their establishment well. We shared the Toasted Garlic Honey Crunch Salad which was delightfully scrumptious. My husband had the Steelhead and I chose the Meatball Linguine for our entrees both were luscious. Ended the evening with dessert of Tiramisu which was absolutely yummy. Our server with her additional wait staff were friendly and efficient. Overall our experience was wonderful and impressive. Definitely the best restaurant Albany has to offer. read more

I posted an outstanding review back in 2016. Wife and I visited again about 6 weeks ago. New building and nice ambience, etc. Service was excellent as was the food. However, we choked a bit when we reviewed the bill. With tip it came to over $150 for the two of us. I ordered coffee and had 2 refills. On the bill it showed $6 per cup or $18 for my coffee. It's not good to surprise customers with charges like this. As nice as it was it was not quite the value of a $150+ (with tip dinner). Maybe we'll go back for dessert and ice water. read more
