Very cool little place tucked away in a strip mall. Friendly and very good customer service. Excellent home made biscuits. The gravy could have used a little more sausage but it was still good. First off... the service/server was outstanding. As much as I'd like to say I came here for the banter, I did not. It was early, I was hungry, I came to eat. So for all the plus' I could offer this cafe, the food wasn't among them. My chicken fried steak was quite possibly among the worst I've had yet. I had a tiny pile of (4) bits I had to a lot out while trying to eat it. It's unclear to me what exactly these chunks were, but they were too hard to chew. This also is a first for me, and I'm widely known for as the CFS guy in my group. When it comes to eating breakfast out, that's usually my "go to". Beyond that the gravy wasn't horrible and I enjoyed the coffee. Apologies to the dunes cafe for the single star. Perhaps It's unfair to rate a place on a singular experience, but it was bad enough I don't see myself trying again. I ate again when I got to the gingerbread village. read more

Every time we are in Florence the Dunes is our go to cafe! Sherrie is the best server! Even though we only come in a couple of times a year, she remember us and is always smiling. It's always clean and smells waft from the kitchen like an old cartoon drawing us in! Though we moved here in Florence 8 months ago, this was our first time here. Loved the down home ambiance, the place looks like the locals go to place in town. I ordered the chicken fried steak, my go to breakfast of choice. Theirs was one of the best I've ever had. Crunchy, not soggy, exterior, and tender and cut with a fork cube steak interior. Eggs were perfectly cooked and hash browns were great. Crunchy and not greasy. Side of rye toast was perfect as well. The only area they could improve this is for a less pasty gravy and with more sausage chunks. My partner had biscuits and gravy, two eggs, hash browns. All excellent. It took longer than expected to get our food, but service was friendly and the food made up for it. Highly recommend. read more

3 tables that were sat at same time, have gotten their food and are eating and our table hasn't gotten our food. Servers seem to think a listed daily special, breakfast steak warrants over a 30 minute wait. Rather than acknowledge that the customer had an unusually long wait, the servers acted defensive and offered no valid customer service. Even other diners who came in AFTER us, wondered why we hadn't been served, and one of them ordered a breakfast steak, as well. Food, when it came, was tasty, but a bit over salted. Diplomacy and graciousness are desirable traits in servers, especially when there's a difference of opinion. read more

Went here for breakfast after visiting some family. Very cute mom and pop restaurant. Good prices for the food portion. Seems very small town atmosphere and the food was tasty. I think I was most impressed with the service. While I was eating another customer had left their keys and the owner said he was going attempt to find the family at the local dunes. Hole in the wall joint that just feels right. A true mom and pop atmosphere, except the folks are more like brothers and sisters. Packed when we got here, had to wait a minute while they cleared a table for us. Very attentive staff. Placed our orders, now sitting here checking out the artwork and signage. I had the number 10 which is a mild green chili with hash browns and gravy, cheese and an egg that was soooo good! Came with little pig sausages that were cooked to perfection! Husband had a regular breakfast that he liked, too, but was jealous of mine!!! One cook and very small kitchen!! I don't know how he was able to pump out so much wonderful food in so little time! We were looking for a great breakfast place while out and about during Labor Day weekend and Yelp helped us with this little gem. The food was homemade style and we felt at home in the quaint little building that was a smaller version of my beloved Deans. The food was good not great but not bad the only complaint was that some of the veggies in the vegetarian omelette were under cooked and the cook wasn't able to make a sunny side up egg, but not everyone can it's a hard one too pull off right so I accepted my over done eggs and apology with grace. The biscuits are huge the gravy was a little peppery for some in our group, but I thought it was just right. If you want a hardy meal before heading out on the dunes this place definitely fits the bill. You will not leave hungry. read more
