Best cheesecake I think I have ever had. I got a Cappuccino & Oregon Berry Cheesecake. The cappuccino was the perfect sipping temperature and the added vanilla was not too sweet. This cheesecake's flavors blended so well together it took me 15 minutes to savor every bite. My friend got coffee and a blueberry orange scone. The scone, visibly made with real orange zest, was delicious, and the orange smell met the nose as soon as it was unwrapped. It was a 1/2 price day-old scone, but one could not tell. The coffee was nothing special but the available cinnamon and nutmeg sprinkled in was a nice touch. The sign on the street really helped us out. Otherwise we would have not known it was there. I am so glad we saw it because I am still thinking about the cupcake I got. We ordered a cookie and chocolate ganache cupcake and I am sad we didn't get more. We then enjoyed our food on the small patio off to the side and the cookie didn't really see the light of day because of how fast we ate it. Removing two stars. Came in and purchased a vanilla cheesecake, key lime tart, and chocolate peanut butter bar. We were here last year and absolutely loved all desserts purchased. We even returned during our stay because it was so good and fresh. This time, not so much. The vanilla cheesecake was old. It had at least a quarter inch of hard, crystallized crust all the way around the cheesecake. So gross! The key lime tart wasn't fresh either. It was super rubbery. The only item that tasted good and baked recently was the chocolate peanut butter bar. We won't be back. Very disappointing. They shouldn't be selling old baked goods. read more

The bakery is small shop tucked away in the back of a parking lot. It wasn't busy when I got there, so I was able to take my time looking at the selection they had. I left with lemon bars, key lime tarts, and cherry and cheese pasties. The cherry and cheese pastries were very dense and delicious, with a generous amount of filling. Slightly off the main thoroughfare of Old Town Florence, it's easy to miss this little bakery tucked back in a parking lot behind another building. The worker behind the counter was kind and patient as we decided which treats to order. There are water cups available by the door, and a nice "secret garden" patio area where you can relax and enjoy your food. The savory options looked good, we will have to try them another time! As for what we did get--the maple pecan bar stole the show. It was SO delicious! The cream cheese frosting on the cinnamon roll was also a must get. read more

My two daughters and I stopped by for a light brunch while The Mrs. slept in. We ordered presto crappy omlette, bacon & sweet potato soup, and cinnamon French toast. For desert, we shared a maple pecan bar and a berry cheesecake. The bunch foods were excellent. The omlette was full of crab and the presto was heavy. The cinnamon French toast was basically a cinnamon roll made I to a French toast. The sweet potato really shine through in the soup. The deserts were absolutely heavenly. They were so good that we stopped by on our drive back to Portland to pick up a few more pastries. read more

We decided to try this place when we last visited Florence on 4th of July weekend. It was situated in a very small building near a parking lot. We entered in a small courtyard to find the entrance. Seating is limited, a few tables inside and couple tables and chairs on the small patio. The lady (Jan or Jen) who took our orders was so nice, very pleasant to talk to, even my children said "too small of a place but the atmosphere is so inviting and friendly". We first ordered hot cocoa, strawberry Italian soda and sweets which is the blueberry cheesecake, lemon bar, caramel pretzel brownie (forgot to take photos) all desserts tasted good. The crabby pesto melt with real Alaskan crab with pesto Parmesan grilled atop a sourdough bread is so delicious! The Asian salmon cakes is great too, there's a sweet and spicy taste which I really like. Give this bakery a try when you visit Florence, it's a hidden treasure! read more

A little hard to find. Tucked back off the street and poor signage. Small and cramped, tough to get around when there's a line. Three tables inside and patio dining. Nice selection of treats and hot breakfast and lunch items. Tried the cheesy omelet, egg & cheese croissant and cinnamon roll French toast. Oregon berry cheesecake and a cinnamon roll to go. Took about 15 minutes to get our food. We managed to score one of the indoor tables. The French toast was really good, nice twist on the usual. Egg dishes were standard fare, nothing special. While the food (breakfast stuff in particular) is reasonably priced, its not great quailty. There seems to be some issues with organization and\or communication with the staff. We had a few poor experiences here. The last time we went they forgot to put our order in. After 45 minutes we went in and asked. (We were the only people there.) While that was annoying, it was what happened after that really made us feel bad. They openly chastised a worker for the mistake. They asked us "Do you still want us to cook it OR do you want a refund?" Perhaps things are different in Florence, but normally when this happens, the staff immediately will start cooking the meal and do something as a gesture of apology. Like, here's a cookie or have drink on us. Perhaps there was a miscommunication, but we were only offered a refund with no food. When we got the meal, the order was then missing toast. We asked for toast and it was just 3 warm peices of bread, no butter. The grilled cheese was not on the bread we asked for. Afterwards we felt a little cheated. We didn't want to leave on a bad note so we communicated our issues and wanted to give them a chance to make it right. Their response was less than gracious. In general the staff is very nice and positive, but there is something disfunctional going on. They don't seem like they have a lot of experience running a cafe\restaurant. read more

About 10 minutes after ordering, I was told they ran out of croissants so they offered an egg sandwich instead. I should have left because I didn't get my sandwich until almost 30 minutes after that. I was excited to try out this (mostly, from what I could tell) all natural bakery. Unfortunately, I left a bit disappointed in the lunch and atmosphere. First thing I noticed was how dark it was... and the tables are all crammed very uncomfortably to one side but that's what they're working with. A small wide hallway type space. No biggie but the chairs and stools at the tall table are very iffy- wobbly and seemingly unsafe. I decide to order and trying to look at the menu is like trying to figure out a puzzle. Multiple things on there I had no idea what they were and they appeared to be in another language. Like French words maybe. The girl at the register was somewhat awkward, not overly friendly, but nice enough. I tried to understand the menu that had no explanations with the strange titles, and then realized you can get both breakfast and lunch at anytime, so I went with something easy. A breakfast sandwich. As I waited, I was looking around at the hodge podged together decor- no offense meant, but it was very strange and seemingly haphazardly thrown together leftover unwanted randomness, and that's when I saw the thickest and darkest layer of dust over basically everything... covering the dim lights and fixtures, all of the Knick nacks, it was actually pretty gross. It was that thick greasy type of dust layer that you see in a place that's never thoroughly cleaned. It made me wonder how clean everything else is. I receive the sandwich and am pretty disgusted to see the raw and runny egg. I wasn't told it would be over easy, nor was I asked how I'd like an egg so I figured it would be cooked, and nobody else's egg sandwiches at my table were runny. Thankfully I was able to trade with someone at my table for a fully cooked egg. I have no idea why it was like that, just mine, and obviously so. Running all down the bread and plate. I was happy to trade so I didn't have to have another awkward interaction with the counter staff. The desserts are what redeemed this place to any degree- the cinnamon rolls and cheesecake were delicious. The bathroom was also pretty clean. I think with some more thought into the menu (making it very clear and easy to understand), a good cleaning/lighting upgrade, maybe replacing the tables with a few long/skinny tables against the wall with sturdy stools that can be stored underneath to allow for some room in there, and cleaning up to outside patio area which was very neglected- this place could be a much better experience. read more

I rarely write 2 star reviews, but when you hover over the 2nd star in Yelp "Could've been better" comes up and that's exactly how I feel my meal could have been at this bakery. I'm a bit surprised that the Yelp reviews are so high for this place. The sweet woman working said that one of her favorite items was the Egg + Cheese Croissant, so my Mom and I both ordered it (and added bacon). We both agreed that it was the driest croissant we had ever eaten. And trust me, I, myself, have had MAAAAANY croissants in my 40-something years of living. This one seemed store bought. Maybe the ones earlier in the morning are better? We arrived around Noon. There are a ton of cute restaurants right around the corner from this place. I'd give them a try before coming to this bakery. Albeit, it's a super cute place with a cute outside area to eat, sip on your coffee and bring your pup. Stopped in today for the first time in several years and nothing has changed. It's a crowded, tight space that is very uncomfortable. It's hard to know where the end of the line is and even harder to get to it -- wall-to-wall people. Kitchen space was just as tight -- and let's just say it was not very appealing to see the back of the house while waiting in line. It took 10 minutes to take the order for each of the two persons in front of us -- no idea how long it took before they were actually served. Drizzling outside and every table inside was occupied so we decided to get take-away. We chose a wide sampling -- lemon bars, maple pecan bars, baklava, a cinnamon roll, chocolate croissants. We've tasted each and none are fresh or flavorful. The croissants are more like raised dough than croissants -- raised, but no lamination, stale, and tasteless except for the chocolate smeared unevenly on top. Everything tastes like it was day-old baked goods and it shouldn't at these prices. I would love for this to have been a better experience. But my recommendation is to make the drive north to Waldport for guaranteed fresh bakery goods. It's a beautiful drive and the pastries and bread are divine. Note: Very few of the photos posted on Sweet Magnolia's here on Yelp are what we saw today. The food cases are messy and the offerings are sparse. This is an adorable, local bakery located in old town Florence. Very cozy and quaint inside with a cute little outdoor courtyard that you can sit in when the weather is decent. Very friendly staff. They have a variety of small desserts You can purchase such as individual cheesecakes, cookies, pastries, and confections. On this visit, I tried the almond croissant, the root beer cookie, and the vegan salted caramel pecan cluster covered in dark chocolate. The root beer cookie was the stand out choice. Delicious, moist and chewy. The pecan cluster was delicious but didn't hold together super well. A little bit messy. The almond croissant tasted good, but the croissant was more bread-like than pastry-like. I did not try any of their bread on this visit. It appears that you can buy loaves of homemade bread here. I will definitely be returning and trying other items. It's great to have a cute local bakery in our sweet little town. read more

An unplanned trip to Florence called for an unplanned trip to a Florence bakery. I visited mid-morning on a Sunday so there was a bit of foot traffic. The folks behind the counter seemed a harried, but I think that means business was hopping, which is great for any small business. I ordered a chocolate chip cookie and a caramel pretzel brownie. The chocolate chip cookie was lackluster--crunchy with very few chocolate chips. (I think I had 3 in the whole cookie--that's too light on the chunks for me.) The caramel pretzel brownie, on the other hand, was decadent. A pretzel crust added a salty crunch to compliment the rich and fudgy brownie. The one I was given was smaller than the others in the case looked... but I think that's for the better because it was super rich. If I'm in Florence again, I'd like to try some other products because they all looked gorgeous! I think I'll also go at a different time when things don't feel so busy/rushed. read more
