We followed the great Yelp reviews to Hukilau last Friday when passing through Florence and were glad we did. My wife said her fish tacos were amazing. I had a combination plate with teriyaki chicken and bbq Korean beef ribs, both of which were outstanding. Yum! The service was polite and efficient. Thankfully, I was wearing one of my Aloha shirts, so fit in with the many Hawaiian license plates, surfboards and shirts mounted throughout the restaurant. A very enjoyable place for lunch. What an absolutely decadent birthday dinner at The Hukilau in Florence! This is easily one of my favorite restaurants, and once again, everything was perfection. We feasted on soft-shell crab, musubi, fresh sashimi and sushi, halibut and chips, giant tacos, and Hawaiian teriyaki chicken--and there was not a single dish that disappointed. The flavors were beautiful, everything tasted incredibly fresh, and each plate seemed better than the one before it. The soft-shell crab was especially divine, and the sushi and sashimi were wonderful. There is something special about celebrating your birthday somewhere you genuinely love, surrounded by incredible food and the people you love. This meal felt indulgent, joyful, and completely worth celebrating. The Hukilau remains one of my absolute favorite restaurants in Florence. If you love Hawaiian-inspired food, fresh seafood, sushi, and generous portions, this little gem is a must. A perfect birthday dinner from beginning to end. We will absolutely be back! read more

We have been enjoying "The Hukilau" for over 10 years, in a food truck a parking lot just north of this current location. The food, staff, atmosphere and the food and drink are outstanding. As soon as the doors opened at 11AM 70% of the tables were occupied. It is always a joy to walk into this place. This time we enjoyed some pupu's Sushi "Chef Kores" smoked salmon wonton chips, Thai coconut prawns, Mango Teriyaki Chicken and Big MONEY Real Crab Roll. Everyone was 5+*, food Delicious!!! Love when we are able to make it over for lunch or dinner. The owner is awesome and he and his staff bring the aloha spirit. Do plan to wait for a bit for your food, it's a small restaurant that gets extremely busy. Their sushi rolls are my favorite but I don't think we've ever had anything we didn't enjoy. read more

We had such a great experience at Pono Hukilau--this place truly delivered on every level. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt welcoming and relaxed, with that perfect coastal Hawaiian fusion vibe that just fits so well. The food was outstanding across the board. The kids' fish and chips were a pleasant surprise--made with real rockfish, which you don't always see on a kids' menu, and it was done perfectly. Emma loved her sushi roll, and LaRue's shrimp sliders were packed with flavor and cooked just right. I went with the panko fried prawns along with the Hawaiian pulled pork, and both were absolutely excellent--crispy, fresh, and full of flavor. Even the appetizer set the tone for the meal--it was clear right away that they care about quality. What really stood out, though, was the combination of great food and great service. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience feel easy and enjoyable without being overbearing. Overall, this was one of those meals where everything just clicked--food, service, and atmosphere. I cannot believe we had not tried this restaurant. It's a small quaint place the atmosphere the music, the decor super fun lively got a Hawaiian theme Our server Jasmine she was very nice and did a great job of taking care of us Make sure we had what we needed and she was really busy. They were packed . Then the food came out completely blown away so delicious and plated so pretty ,we end up sharing we got the teriyaki chicken the shrimp and then it came with rice and Hawaiian Mac . they had Ginger and Thai basil to garnish and it went so good with it also came with a dipping sauce yum. I wish I could have it right now Drinks were really good. Husband got the tea. It was pretty strong, but it was he was OK with that because we were walking. We were staying in Florence. The Hukilau is a fun, festive classic staple in Florence, Oregon. This restaurant you walk in and it just feels fun. It feels welcoming. The staff are so wonderful. The attitudes are positive. This restaurant feels like a good time. The prices have gone up. I blame the economic conditions rather than the owners themselves. The food sometimes I feel like the sauce is too much or the food is too sweet or too salty. I don't feel that the food is super consistent every time I go. I love supporting local business owners. I love the story of the restaurant how it started as a food truck. I just wish the food was more consistent when you order. read more

I realize that there may be a long wait but the food is definitely worth it. My husband ordered the clams pasta but they were out of clams and substituted with prawns and a lot of them. I had the Kailua pork that was amazing and flavorful. The California roll was huge and tasted so fresh. If you haven't tried this place you really need to. read more

I go to the Hukilau about once a week, the service is always friendly, and the food is amazing. The chef specials are actually something special not something left over. The Indonesian soft shelled crab sliders are to die for I've had them twice. They have an enormous selection of sushi and plenty of other cooked offerings as well. One of my favorites is the Hawaiian catch of the day fish tacos. This is not a little baby street taco this is an enormous taco filled with fish and vegetables. I highly recommend the Pono Hkilau! Great vibes, music, bar, staff and food. It's a small place with beach shack vibes, walls and ceiling colorfully decorated with surfboard, flags and other treasures. Especially nice to see a reconstituted sovereign flag flying. The wait was a bit long but it was so worth it. I really recommend the Mai tai and Pele's chicken. Way too expensive and the quality wasn't there for the price. Too many people trying to dine at once and the kitchen was too small to accommodate the tickets. Long wait times for your food and drinks. Why would anyone serve imitation crab at the Oregon coast? The real Dungeness crab may be expensive but if you're charging $20 or more a roll it should be expected. read more

So this used to be my 2-4 times a month treat restaurant. Until a server was publicly, loudly disrespectful to my octogenarian guest. Then boasted about it to his fellow workers. Bad move "Mikey". I now encourage folks to avoid this business. I encourage this loudly and repeatedly. So I check their web page, they have extended their hours, and of course raised their prices. The Hukilau is my "Happy Place" restaurant. The atmosphere is so fun and festive. I love the Hawaiian shirts and surfboards on the ceiling. It's fun to see big screen TVs showing surfing, fishing and boating around the islands. The menu is varied, and the food is very good, especially the sushi. If you're going there for dinner, make sure you get there a little early. It can be busy and they close at 6:30. read more

The food was good though it took quite a while to get and they seemed to be out of or running low on quite a few things. Most of the seating was outside as they seemed to be quite a smaller place though it was hard to tell since they made you wait outside to be seated so my party never actually got to see inside. The service was very low though with waiters both taking a long time to bring things and rushing you to finish. A few other people finished eating before getting all of their order and ended up leaving before it even got to them. The main problem was that they couldn't split the bill my party had into even parts based on what we ordered so a few of us over paid which has happened before at other restraints so not too bad. But the kicker was that they then straight up ignored the tip amount I gave and charged me their minimum 18% tip amount. Cool vibe in the restaurant, but really loud with crashing prep pans. Service is s l o w, and there is a sign stating that by the front door, so we expected that. I ordered a Spam musabi and a sushi roll. Spam was barely cooked, so no crispy goodness, and the sauce was mediocre. The roll was a bit better, but not by much. My wife had the baby back ribs and whole hog shredded pork. The ribs were good, the pork was dry and flavorless. Read so many good reviews and was disappointed with our experience. We've been to HI and the flavors POP, so was excited to try someplace with 4+ stars. Anemic comparison at best, I would not recommend Hukilau; there's too many better places to eat in Florence. read more
