Awesome dive bar! Came here for Fish Fry Friday with some friends and we were not disappointed!! First, the staff is amazing and so friendly and kind. Our waitress came to our table quickly and took our drink order. The drinks were strong and tasty! Good beer selection as well as liquor selection. As for the food - DANG WAS THE FISH GOOD! My husband and I split the fried cat fish then immediately ordered another portion Cajun style. So much flavor. Not greasy at all, and delicious fries on the side! A week ago, it was my family's first time visiting the bar in the neighborhood and felt hopeful that things would be great with a sign saying "new management". Well, it was disappointing. Wanted a cold beer and bar food. Beer was "cool", not cold. Food was "cool", not hot - even after waiting 30 minutes for it to be served (they were NOT busy). Catfish for Fish Friday looked seasoned when it was on the plate, but it was greasy and flavorless -- looked seasoned from old grease. Fried mushrooms were soggy and lukewarm. Fried pickles were cold. Slimy wings coated in buffalo sauce were cold. Chicken & cheese quesadilla took the longest, even though it was first ordered before all other items - and was also cool with hardened cheese. Lemonade tasted like water with a lemon squeezed in to it. Server advised she was new, but she was very slow with getting to the 4 tables that had people sitting at them, and worried about people sitting at the bar. Marcel's is definitely a place for those who like dive bars. It's low-lit, filled with locals and even has a singing bartender. I've been there twice now and had two very different experiences: One, just having a couple with a buddy, and the other watching my Chiefs play football. Appearance: A smokers' patio greets the patron as they approach Marcel's in it's strip mall. Next to the patio is the main point of entry, you open it up to the usual neighborhood dive. A U shaped bar is to the left, going around a central bar island that hosts a series of taps. Tables are scattered throughout and a pool table is towards the rear of the bar. Behind that, a music box. As with any good local bar, about 30 percent of the lighting comes from the various beer neons around the location. Service: Every time I've been there, the staff of Marcel's has been very friendly. Once we had a singing bartender, and the other time the bartender did a great job handing a busy room. She didn't know me, but she knew everyone else there (as one might expect in a neighborhood bar). Product: Marcel's offers your traditional bar food, chicken tenders, hamburgers, wings. Their beer selection is about average for a dive too, you can get your domestic Bud, PbR and Coors, or find some great local or imports. The hamburger I had was good, but I was warned off the wings by a local. Prices: It's a dive, expect decent prices on both the food and the drinks. Last impressions: Marcel's is a dive bar. If you want glitz and glam don't even bother. It's not that kind of place. It is the kind of place where you can go, meet 15 strangers and have a few entertaining conversations. There is no signs that say employee parking only and also was four other spots open. In fact when we left there was our car and the other one car there. Same as when we got there 2 hours prior. This was the WORST experience of my life. last night for Saint Patrick's day we went here with a party of nearly 20, including 3 kids. Prior to making reservations here multiple people from our party called to ensure this was a friendly place to go with our family to sing karaoke and eat. None of us had been here before and had no idea this would be a full blown dive bar. When we called we were told kids were welcome and they could stay until 11. Mind you we would have NEVER made reservations if we knew this place was in fact not going to be kid friendly. We spent hundreds of dollars between us all. ordered food which all came out cold. Half of us didn't even get the food we ordered because almost immediately after arriving we started to be discriminated against for having the children with us. We were told we were being watched on the cameras and basically that we were bad parents not watching our children.As well as they sent a gentleman to come watch us for the remainder of the night as well. Also, My 8 and 10 year old were playing darts, again because we were told it was kid friendly and didn't think it would be a problem. As well as my friends daughter was playimg around the tables that we sat at. After being treated so poorly I left my number to have the owner call me. when she called me she basically said we weren't watching our children. She complained about the THREE YEAR OLD crying because she had fallen and bumped her head by accident. As well as she said we weren't watching our kids because my 8 and 10 year old were 5 feet away from our tables playing darts. Apparently if you don't have your kids on a tight leash you aren't watching your children.(I knew exactly where they were and was in fact keeping a good eye on my children.) Long story short they lied about telling us it was an okay place to bring children and then as soon as we got there they harassed us and discriminated against us, no matter how much money we brought into the place. And mind you other than the darts my kids stayed at the table the entire night and the 3 year old stayed close to the tables or by her mom when she was singing karaoke. Also, there were some under aged kids (around 16-18) there who said they were regulars and that they wouldn't be made to leave at 11 like we were because "they knew the owner." I have never in my life been so humiliated And disrespected. We never would of brought children to this place if they were clear about the atmosphere and the fact they are NOT in fact child friendly. So I urge you all, especially if you have children. Do NOT come here. They will lie to you, take your money and then harass, discriminate and then kick you out with no remorse as to how they have treated their PAYING CUSTOMERS. Also, if you plan on eating here again, don't. All of our food was cold or we just didn't get it at all because they were so set on harassing us all night instead of taking care of us. I absolutely love this place and Saturday night karaoke. I've been coming here for years and it's always fun. Decently priced drinks, friendly staff and fun crowds are a Saturday standard! The only bad thing I would have to say which takes off a star is the bar could be a little darker, and in the summer it gets a little warm inside. I was hopeful to find a local sports bar that I could go to frequently since it's close to home. From the moment we walked in, no one acknowledged us for at least 20 mins. Mind you, the place was empty. We ending up seating ourselves, and waited for someone to come over. Another 20 mins later, nothing. So I went to the bar to at least order drinks. I let asked about ordering food and the young girl let me know someone would come over to our table to take our order. 20 mins later, nothing. I went back to the bar to order our food. It finally came out and as we were eating we found a hair in our ranch and went to the bar to let them know we found hair in our food and they seemed unbothered and gave us another ranch. My mom and I decided to pop in here the other night and I'm so glad we did! This local bar hits the spot if you're in the neighborhood looking for that "Cheers" feel! Visited this place for the first time a few weeks ago. Went with several work friends, yes, one was already intoxicated. Walking in karaoke was blaring, drinks were flowing then within a few minutes the bartender/owner made a big stink about the drunk one. Now I'll give her a thank you for letting her stay, however she could have handled it a bit more professionally then making a scene. The friend wasnt stumbling, bumping, falling, or being held up. I can honestly say looking around she fit in the bar scene... Anyway, As the night went on the karaoke host was by far one of the worst. You had to yell into the Mic to sing over the blaring music. I explained a couple times ways she could do to fix the problem (I myself dj, and host karaoke) instead of her offering to fix the Mic problem she lectured me for 3 minutes about how she is a professional host and has hosted for longer then I've been alive, and how she doesn't need anyone giving her advice on her system (this was the first of 5 times she explained this to my group and a couple people around us). I felt like i knew her whole career profile. Last straw was the drunk one wanted to sing... Now im not a bar owner but im pretty sure a bar hires a karaoke host to entertain us (drunks). The karaoke host took it upon herself to tell her no because the bar wouldn't serve her.... Wait a second, she is a 3rd party company, hired to host karaoke.... Not serve drinks... She was completely rude and blatantly did not care. I explained to the owner/waitress the problem that set me off and she blew me off at first then agreed with me... By that time it was too late i was fed up, we were all done with this Gestapo karaoke host and we jammed out. I'll never spend another dollar at this place. To top the night off according to the owner/waitress and I quote: "in the state of Arizona its illegal to be intoxicated in a bar".... I live in the area and this was my first time here. Your typical hole in the wall neighborhood bar. Not flashy at all. Patrons were friendly and welcoming and the food is good for being your typical bar food. They do have a huge menu and even a Sunday breakfast menu.
