If you've ever wondered what it feels like to accidentally teleport back to 1992 without warning or consent... I have the place for you. So here's the thing: I recently moved kinda sorta into the area, and my drinking buddy asked if we wanted to stay local or wander elsewhere. My gut said, "Not around here" and listen, my intuition is usually correct. But then he pulls up this list of "Best Dive Bars in Phoenix," and apparently this gem made the cut. We walk in and BOOM! Instant time-warp, for me. I'm talking back-in-the-day bar with my mom doing karaoke while everyone chain-smoked indoors like it was a personality trait and I wasn't legal to be in there... only back then, no one cared. They call the place a "patio," but let's be honest: if nicotine had a spiritual home, it would be right here. If you're a non-smoker or someone who believes oxygen should be unobstructed by Marlboro ghosts, turn around. This is not your ministry. The bartender was an absolute icon. She announced she wasn't even supposed to be working, which is EXACTLY the kind of energy a true dive bar requires. She was slammed, running around like she was bartending both the Super Bowl and a family reunion, so the drinks took a looong while... but when they came? Suddenly I understood life again. And the karaoke... let me tell you. I went in there ready to sing something from this century. The options, however, politely declined. This was old-school karaoke, baby. Like, the kind of setup where you half expect to write your song down on a napkin and hand it to a man named Chuck. No new music that I could find. No modern selections from my lists. If you want to sing something post-2005, bring a Bluetooth speaker and emotional support. And yet? I had so much fun. Like... stupid fun. Unexpected fun. "Why am I having a euphoric experience inhaling secondhand smoke in 2026?" fun. I didn't get to check out the bathroom, which honestly might be a blessing or a missed adventure.... unclear. But everything else? Chef's kiss. Friends french fries were fresh and hot... and actual potato as far as we could tell... double kiss. Dive-bar perfection. If you want sterile, curated, Instagrammable vibes: run. If you want to scream-laugh, smell like nostalgia and cigarettes for three days, and hear music older than some of the patrons? This place is your destiny. Will I be back? Absolutely. Probably with eyeliner smudged like a raccoon and ready to request karaoke songs that don't exist there. read more

Second time here same great service as always and a fun ride with the motorcycle to get a beer. Always super dark and smoky but relaxed and you can load the music into the jutbox. I have not tried the food before but they do have a snack menu to check out too. read more

I normally do not write reviews, however, I felt it was warranted in this situation. I came to AZ for my niece's graduation and was asked to go out with her to Mavericks. The group consisted of myself, all of her friends (who frequent your establishment regularly and speak highly of your establishment), and some of her other out of state family members. We arrive there and see others dressed in all type of attire. The wait was long, however, my niece explained that because it was graduation that might be expected. Security had walked past our party while we were waiting looking at us and not saying anything to us about our attire. When we got closer, some dude (presumably a bouncer as he dI'd not have anything on indicating he was security) aggressively approached our group and proceeded to tell us that security would not let us in because we had opened toed shoes(sandals) on. He proceeded to point to a sign with all the exclusions. The sign DID NOT explicitly say you could not wear open toed shoes. When we pointed this out to the guy, he proceeded to inform my group that it's been that way for the past 8 months and it's also listed on their website and "in 8 different places around the building". We waited in a line that covered 2 of the 4 outer walls in the building and no sign mentioning a dress code was posted anywhere until the door. My niece informed him that she was unaware of this change and has been going there for several months. He then shrugged his shoulders and said "I don't know what to tell you, it's on our website and they would turn you around at the door. We've had to turn around 10 people tonight because of open toed shoes." As we were leaving, we watched another group literally enter your establishment with opened toed shoes ( platform sandals)! When the bouncer who had approached us before was asked about this, his response was "it's a private establishment, we can do what we want." I would like to go on to mention that I also looked at your website...there is not a single mention of a dress code. The instagram site also does not mention a dress code. Also, our niece and her friends have been to your establishment numerous times and would most definitely have informed us that we needed to change way before we spent 30+ minutes in a line to only be refused at the door for our attire. While you have the right to refuse service for any reason, the treatment that we experienced was rude and unnecessary. It was also fabricated because your staff kept mentioning dress codes but obviously it wasn't enforced for every patron that came to your establishment . In this climate where everything feels tense, feels high stressed, and we are all looking to have fun, that was our intentions when we went out with our niece last night. However, that experience for her and ourselves will now be tainted because of the treatment we exprienced at your establishment. read more

Great little dive bar! Juniors tacos were amazing. The bar tending service definitely needed some work. Took forever to get a drink after we got seated, not once did she follow up to see if we needed refills and we were sitting at the bar. Other than that it was a cool place. read more

Smoking allowed / cash only kitchen. Five stars - damn right . Why ? Well , it's exactly what you'd want if you want a hang out biker style place with laid back people . Dress to impress- hardly . Hot new pick up spot ? Nope. This is the place for a good local hang. There is a space for bands to play and there were a bunch when I went . Small and probably the most intimate setting to see a band . Loud , so bring earplugs just in case ....or don't . Drinks were inexpensive. Food (wings and fries) were great , hot and just what you would want from this place . Staff was very nice. Patrons were funny - talked to a guy that had an addict daughter (5x rehab by age 20) and was a self diagnosed kleptomaniac - that was the reason he robbed a few banks and did 12 years . He wouldn't steal from poor people , just the rich - sort of like a Phoenix Pan . Another patron had this Rainman like brain that rattles off 60's-70's music knowledge like it was his job . You never know who'll sit next to you ! I noticed there is a "dance on the bar at your own risk" sign at the bar . Nice touch. One woman complete with knee high compression hosiery proceeded to get up and dance for the patrons. Thank you for your service ma'am. We thank you and I'm sure AARP thanks you as well . watch your charges. Stefanie Dawson doyble charged me from a bill from Jan 11th and Dec 2nd. tonight she was too busy flirting and not doing her job. when i called her out on that she got pissed. i was to have had 2 previous tabs. (which was incorrect) out of vindictiveness, she attempted to charge me for those past tabs. they were in fact paid. i called the CC company and they confirmed that they were paid. NOW...ITS time to get the OWNER INVOLVED. the "Muscle " in rhe olace was RUDE and ignorant. I am right! They are wrong. Yet they stated i was the asshole. for arguing about the fact that if one card was not accepted that the other in fact went through. they tried to OKI-DOKE me. this all transpired out of (again) vindictiveness....i even stated that. BTW....i have the CC companies customer service stating the FACT that the charges DID GO THROUGH!!!!!!. NOW i have to get the print out and go play "I TOLD YOU SO" the Muscle-----got completly rude and said inwas trying to skip out on my bill...remember...from Jan 11th and Dec 12th. I can't say that I've been to a lot of bars In Phoenix, but of the few I have been this is definitely my favorite. This a true bar. Not one of those "cool" places where they play crappy pop hop tunes and serve you over priced drinks with sissy names and fruity flavors. No this is a place for adults to go and chill after a hard day's work. Pull up a stool, light up smoke, and order a stiff one. The staff is super friendly and so are patrons. When karaoke isn't going on, they're playing some classic rock or mellow country in the back ground. You know tunes comprised of singing and guitars, real music. So if you're like me and don't follow the mainstream, hate any kind of drama, and want to enjoy your cigarette with your whiskey without having your ears bombarded by bass beats, well you should join me and rest of the crowd at Maverick's sometime. read more

If you're looking for a dive bar just outside of central Phoenix, that may be located on the verge of a sketchy neighborhood, then go to the Maverick! I'm not saying any of these things are bad of course or I wouldn't have gone there myself. We went for karaoke here on a Thursday night. The mixed crowd was awesome, I love variety. The drinks were cheap ($2.50 for a pint of Shiner Bock), plus the bartender remembered my drink after one order, and she was singing with a mic in one hand and pouring drinks in the other! Yes, this is more of a biker bar, who cares, mind your own and they won't mind you. The bathroom was clean, like nice restaurant clean, and had hot water, Big win for a dive bar! I think we had a full sampler of the food they had to offer, fries, onion rings, mozzarella sticks, and fried zucchini, typical bar food, but most excellent drunk food. I will say this bar is not for everyone. I was with drinkers and smokers and honky tonk singers, we loved it here. (BTW you can smoke inside this place, a win for some.) read more

I found this little jewel of a dive bar about a month ago. Now, if you expect to go and set at a table and get lots of service you'll probably be disappointed. Many times it's just the bar tender or tenders, and they're trying to wait the bar and the tables. The kitchen is "separate", and you have to ask the bartender to have the cook come out and take your order. Then when the food arrives, you pay him, and he only takes cash. There always seems to be a lot of regulars, but that's OK. They are friendly enough. It may be advertised as a biker bar, and there is usually a selection of bikes in the parking lot, but lots of local working folks as well. The drinks are cheap, I've had both the burgers and wings, and give both very high marks. Especially the wings. You can also smoke in the bar. Ashtrays everywhere, so if you're not into second hand (or first hand) smoke, you may be disappointed. But if you are, or don't mind, give it a try. read more

Went in this place last week for some food and a beer. When I received my food I found rat/mouse droppings in it. I quietly told the bartender (I think she said her name was Carol) about what I found and she proceeded to tell me I was lying. She then took my food and 3/4 full beer from me and handed me back my credit card and said I wasn't allowed back there ever again. I did absolutely nothing wrong and was even being respectful to the establishment by not informing other guests about the rodent feces on my plate. I have read the reviews that have previously bean posted about the Maverick Saloon and some are a "little" bit negative. Unfortunately they are like most forums like this. There are posts from people that did not like the place and probably did not belong in the place. Face it, if you like petite little steaks with some fancy tiny little portion of some kind of vegetable that you don't even know what you are eating and at a price of $25.00 to $50.00 a plate, or like to spend $6.00 for a beer, or $8.00 for a well drink, this is not the place for you. The food is "only" greasy fried or grilled food at a very reasonable price and "Damn" good cook'n, and the drinks are at a very reasonably priced and served by very personable staff. On weekend nights there is live music that features some local bands from different genres that are not Tim McGraw or Nickleback or Adele, but there are some that do covers that are, in my opinion, better than the originals. On Sundays there is a breakfast special for a whole $1.50. Two eggs any style and bacon or sausage and hash browns and toast, or biscuits and gravy w/ two eggs any style and sausage or bacon. I am really sorry that it does not cost $12.00 because it is a Damn good breakfast. Now let's top that off with $2.00 hand made bloody mary's, $2.00 domestic longnecks, well and drink specials that are way too cheap for the people that like "atmosphere" and all served by a very beautiful lady that busts her.... to make you happy and know who you are and hopes you can come back and run her in the ground because she is so busy, You are right, you deserve to go and spend $15.00 a plate for breakfast and go home and read your paper and take a nap!! There are promotional things that go on there that support things Like the fight against breast cancer, toys for tots, raising money to support our homeless and disabled veterans, and can you actually believe that they will have fundraisers to help raise money for family and final expenses for a customer who has died? We can most certainly go back to your childhood, it all started with your mother. Clearly she taught you to consistently rely on the easy way out, educated human beings dont sit around and wait for life to come to them, it's a little thing called initative. As a bartender I can say at times we get a little overwhelmed and as much as we may want to get to a guest as soon as possible, it's not always within a timely manner. It's soooo much easier to blog on Yelp than it is to get your hefty buns off of your barstool and say, hey Shannon when you get a second I could use a bud light bottle :) We all now know that ain't how you roll though. You're what the world calls an instigator, you have a desperate need to create problems, you like chaos, you need it, you love it, you're not complete without it. This bar is by far, one of the best bars in Phoenix!! The food is great, the music rocks, and the chicks are amazing!! Yes, Maverick has had some fluzeys work there in the past, but they cleaned house and recently got rid of them and now have some of the best staff I've seen there ever. Not only do the ladies pour a stiff drink, they are fast and efficient. They know you by your name and already have your drink waiting for you on the bar if you hit the bathroom before you sit down. For the chick that's hatin on Sue, your probably nasty and have no tits of your own that any man or woman would want to look at, so your jealous of her. Just a little advice hunnie, if you don't like it, don't look, or better yet, don't come in this bar, cause as far as I'm concerned, and I'm pretty sure the majority of the customers as well, Sue looks better than most women that are younger than her and have not had children, so keep your jealousy to yourself and stay at home. As for the lady who calls the staff racist, sounds like your the racist sweetheart and have a problem with anyone who is NOT Mexican. Let me give you some advice from someone who was a bartender for years and has high expectations because of it. If you come in with an attitude like they owe you something and your entitled to something because your Mexican, black, white, purple, green or blue, your gonna get an attitude right back at you, and yes, you will wait for a drink or get kicked out! It is not due to the color of your skin, the tits on your chest, or the money in your wallet. The definition of the word T.I.P.S. is "to insure prompt service". Now being a bartender myself in the past, I know that we have to work our butts off for our tips, and have a lot of crap we have to deal with from customers like you. So if you are not going to tip someone who works to serve you, then I suggest you stay home and have your other half serve you for free. I'm pretty sure you don't work for free, so why should they? Moving forward, this bar has always been a biker bar, and always will be. If you don't like bikers, then why would you even step foot inside this place? Kim always has a smile on her face, and is fun to have conversation with. She is always cracking jokes and laughing with customers, so she makes it feel welcoming when she is working. There is another chick that has brown hair past her shoulders that works there too. Not sure what her name is, but she isn't worth knowing it anyways. She doesn't give your change back, and when you ask for it, she tells you that you haven't tipped her, and says it so loudly that other customers can hear, so it makes you feel like an idiot and seem like a cheap @ss. I didn't even want to argue with her so I just drank my drink and left. I will call now to see who is bartending, cause I'll never go in there if she is working. The other girl seems nice but I can't remember her name. There are 2 new bartenders here, Jen and Sarah. They are awesome bartenders, and they now how to make a damn drink! Jen has such a great personality and is so much fun to talk to. You can give her crap, and she dishes it right back to you, and with a smile. She has a nice rack and is not ashamed to flaunt them puppies and show how proud of them she is. Sarah is the newest one and is this cute little thing that has this killer style and she rocks it! She apparently came from Westwood up to Maverick and hopefully will be there more. So it's obvious I'm a regular here and know the bartenders pretty well. I'm not "friends" so to say with them, but they make me feel like I am. I know that customer service is one of the hardest industries to work in, especially around drunk people. So I really give it to these girls for doin what they do, and doin it with a smile on their faces. It makes me want to get back into bartending again. So if you want to get awesome service, by hot ass chicks serving you cheap drinks, amazing food from Junior (not just greasy fried food either), and pretty damn good music, head on into this place and you will find it all here.
