Ive been coming here for 20 years and in those years I've tried well over a hundred donut places and nowhere compares to here! These are far and away the best donuts I have ever had! The crumb cake donut is delicious! But the cherry donut is to die for! I've never seen anywhere carry them and there is nothing more satisfying than biting into one! Mary is easily one of the most cheery people you will ever meet! She's very kind too. I remember once my boys really wanted some donuts but it was my first visit and I didn't know there was a card minimum and I didn't have enough cash. She gave the donuts to my boys anyway!! (I came back to pay for the donuts even though she said it was ok but that kind of thoughtfulness needs to be acknowledged!) Mary and her family are amazing. The donuts they make are delicious - so good that the four years I lived in ND, when I was pregnant, my Dad hand carried a dozen of her donuts (crumb cake! donut holes!) to me. Whenever I visited home, I took home another dozen on the plane to share back in ND. The cake donuts are lovely - crumbly and moist inside, lightly crisp outside - my favorite are the crumb cake. The 'raised' donuts are awesome too - light and airy, soft, a hint of crisp outside, not over-glazed (or under-glazed, heaven forbid). Her donut holes are good. Too good. I could sit and eat a couple dozen without thinking about it twice. And the service is *always* top notch. Mary recognizes her regulars (and her wayward regulars like me) every time - and even first time customers or visitors are greeted like lost family. She takes service with a smile seriously - because it's her nature. The product is great, the service is even better. Donuts bring me back to childhood days. Seeing an unexpected pink box of donuts at the dining table on Saturday or Sunday mornings was always a delight :) The only times I eat donuts is when my dad gets them on those random weekend mornings (which he gets elsewhere) or when I'm grabbing a cup of coffee on my college campus. On this New Years day I woke up suddenly craving for some donuts. Donut holes to be exact. After picking up some groceries next door at Safeway, I came here looking for some donut holes to satisfy my craving. Out of all the years that I've lived in Almaden I don't know why I've never stopped by here. Maybe because I never craved them so bad 'til this day or I was skeptical to go here - not that I've heard anything bad about this donut shop. So as I was about to enter I noticed they had a Yelp sticker on their door. I thought, whoopee, it must be good. And right when I opened the door the owner (I believe it was the owner) was walking out with a FRESH batch of donuts holes! I ordered 12. The lady was really nice :) The donuts were just enough (there's actually 5 left) to satisfy my craving and to share with the pops. We both enjoyed them very much. Very yummy. Totally beats campus donuts and price. I'll definitely be back here more often! read more

Decent Donuts. A little overpriced. I think this store gets a little more traffic not because the donuts are awesome or anything above and beyond, but more that they are one of the few choices in the area without having to try and go through the safeway. Got a couple donuts here on a Monday morning. No line and donuts were good. Got a large coffee to go with it. OK.. Its not starbucks, or posh, or mc donalads or ... I've lived in this neighborhood for 20+ years and this has been our go-to donut shop for all of them. Mary and Tal Ran always remember your name, your kid's names, etc. The donuts are the best. Krispy Kremes? Meh. Just about any donut is good when it's hot. The test is whether it is light and non-greasy hours after it's made, and the donuts in this shop are good all day. Since there are Maple Leaf Donut shops other places around the bay, can only vouch for this one - it's the only one I go to on a regular basis. When your average meat-puppet politician talks about "small business" - THIS is the kind of family-run small business they should be talking about - the ones that have great product, treat everyone like family, and become an integral part of the neighborhood and the community. read more

The donuts here actually taste really good; however they are definitely more expensive than other donut shops in the area. The other day I went in the morning to buy some donuts and the owner was getting the donuts I had asked for and some reason reason just left me to work on making more donuts for the day without saying a word. I assumed he would only be gone a minute and then come back. I waited for at least 5 minutes with not so much as a word from him and then decided to leave and vowed to never come back due to such poor customer service and the high prices. read more

BEST DONUTS EVER!!! We used to live in the neighborhood and would come get donuts here all the time. We moved and we kept trying out different donut places around us but nothing could compare to this place. The donuts melt in your mouth and don't have any aftertaste like all the other donut places. We have given up on other donut places. Anytime we want donuts we come here. The owners are amazing! They are so sweet and kind to their customers and they are also very generous as they usually put an extra donut or a few donut holes with your order. I've also bought donuts from here to sell at our little league snack shack and it was the only time I had people asking where I got the donuts from. Seriously amazing! I highly recommend this place!
