We loved this restaurant! The food and service were outstanding. A welcome drink and special take away menu for our birthdays. Highly recommend!

It was a great experience for a special occasion date night. Loved this restaurant, the delicious food (especially the dessert course) and our waiter was fantastic!

Welcome to Chicago indeed, this place is so much fun and delivers on a cool twist of a steakhouse. The decor is stunningly beautiful. The staff is so much fun and so amazing. They created a memorable experience. Let's not forget the steak that delivers along with their amazing sides and delicious wine. Can't wait to come back totally a cool vibe.

Main reason to come was for the Tower Hour specials plus dinner. Arrived to find the bar was closed for a private party. Couldn't order the specials in the dining room, not allowed. Should have left then but didn't. Service was great by Brad. Liked the atmosphere. Food tasted great but over priced for what you get. Only 3 scallops on my wife's dinner? Dropped $500 but expected for what I paid.

This used to be the spot for dates, anniversaries, celebrations, etc. The food seems to have changed and quality is not the same. The cocktails used to be the best in the city but they have changed the menu.

Food is great had the steak Fritas , the chicken and Mac & cheese. Definitely worth it!& the staff is always so nice & attentive

It was my first time in Chicago, and we came here for my birthday dinner. The bar was amazing, service and drinks were great! I loved the dim light setting throughout, as you come in and go up to the restaurant area. Very clean and aesthetically pleasing. We had steak, salad, the yellowtail and of course fries haha. Everything was so tasty, the mashed potatoes were heavenly. They also let me have a desert of my choice on the house and that was delicious. I look forward to coming again.

Saturday night dinner reservation here. One of the trendy restaurants that specialized in steak and American style fare. Made a reservation for 9:30 and got here right at that time. Upon checkin to the hostess stand inside the door - you're sent thru the bar area to an elevator and up to the 3rd floor, where you enter the restaurant. We checked in there and were told the table was being prepared. The issue here is the hostesses are told to tell people to hang out at the bar and they'll come and get you when your table is ready. Issue with this is: you can't hear yourself think and there was an insane log jam there. So we retreated and sat out at the foyer. We were taken to our table in about 15min. Still very loud - and I'm not sensitive to loud ambience but it was heavy. Darkly lit place with no ceiling lights just candelabras on the tables. Kind of cool - very loud. We started with the Caesar salad which was partly charred and served with a soft boiled egg. It was good enough but the charring was a little over the top. For an entree I ordered the special Japanese's wagyu 6oz. I also added the brussel sprouts and we shared the au gratin potatoes. The steak was perfect really - tender, evaporated upon taste, and executed perfectly. The sides were ok - potatoes were the better of the two we got - as the brussel sprouts were just brussel sprout leaves no sprout themselves. Very hard to eat this way. For dessert I ordered the coconut cream pie which was a massive wedge. Tasted very good and I polished it. Our waitress - English? Took care of us, but was handling other tables as well so other staff also stepped in to fill drinks and make sure our experience continued at a timely rate. Overall, I would recommend here as a nice different speed than the usual steakhouse.

Mac and cheese, and brocollini.

Maple & Ash has been one of my go-to restaurants since they first opened. While certain things never disappoint, some aspects simply are not as good as they used to be. The service and ambiance remain top tier. The staff is attentive, polished, and consistently helpful. While I appreciate the restaurant's attire policy, it does seem selectively enforced, considering the number of guests wearing sneakers and t-shirts. It gives the impression that enforcement is somewhat at-will. The welcome treats at the start of the meal are always a nice touch. Our server, Brad, was excellent...attentive, knowledgeable, and thorough in explaining the current offerings. And those meatballs...still incredible. Absolutely one of the standout items on the menu. Shrimp Scampi...yes and yes! The mushrooms were fine, but nothing particularly memorable. The sautéed greens were refreshing and something I would gladly order again. One surprise of the evening was the Steak Frites. Even though I did not order it myself, it was honestly the best steak entree at the table. Unfortunately, my Steak au Poivre (ribeye medallion) was the biggest disappointment of the night. The Steak au Poivre, served with peppercorn seasoning and a green peppercorn sauce, arrived split down the middle and lacked flavor almost entirely. To its credit, it was cooked perfectly. But for the price point, flavor matters most, and this dish simply did not deliver. As someone who loves a good ribeye, I would not order this entree again. The beverages were enjoyed by everyone at the table, and after a long week, that macchiato definitely hit the spot. If you love espresso, this is an excellent choice. And last, the chocolate is a nice treat share. Everyone can enjoy a taste, if you love chocolate. Overall, Maple & Ash still delivered a great birthday dinner experience. I came, I ate, I paid...but I definitely will not be ordering that Steak au Poivre again.

We used to save Maple & Ash for the nights that mattered. Anniversaries, big news, the dinner you build a whole trip around. Back then the room was dark and hushed and lined with deep velvet booths, and you could disappear into one for three hours with the person you love. That room is gone. The booths have been thinned out and the floor opened up, and by my count there are thirty to forty more seats packed in here now. What came with them is a volume level I would call distracting. We were leaning across a two top and still asking each other to repeat ourselves. The crowd shifted right along with the layout. Our night was wall to wall after work groups talking business at full voice. If that is the energy you want, you will have a great time. We came for a quiet, romantic dinner and never found one. The people here are still the best thing about it. Service was excellent, as it has been on every visit. They put a cocktail in your hand the moment you sit down and ours was outstanding, and the little vegetable plate with the house made French onion dip is a gracious way to open a meal. But the sommelier is who I want to talk about. He gave us real time, asked good questions, listened to the answers, and came back with a bottle produced in very limited quantities that most of us would never come across on our own. Hard to find, and dangerously easy to drink. That is the difference between someone selling wine and someone hosting you. The list here has earned Wine Spectator's Best of Award of Excellence under wine director Amy Mundwiler, and if you sit down at this restaurant and do not put yourself in the somm's hands, you are leaving the best part on the table. The food is where the night slipped. My New York strip arrived tough and barely seasoned, which at these prices is hard to forgive. Tara's halibut was the best plate we ordered and she was glad she had it, the mac and cheese held up, and the fries with garlic aioli disappeared fast. Good cooking in spots. Not the wood fired fireworks this place built its name on. Three stars, and I want to be clear about where they land. The staff and the wine program are worth five. The room and the steak are what pulled it down. When the strip misses and you cannot hear your wife across the table, the math stops working. We are not planning a return, and that is a sentence I never expected to write about this restaurant.

I was super excited to check out the Chicago location since I live around the corner from the Miami one. The service was warm and welcoming. The food was delicious. The brunch buffet was great! I enjoyed everything. I especially loved the carving station. The filet melted in my mouth. The grits were also soooo good! Also added on some lobster for a little razzle dazzle. The ambiance and rustic decor was beautiful! I will definitely be making a reservation for my return!

From the moment you walk through the front door, this restaurant sets the tone--sexy, upscale, and completely intoxicating. Upon arrival, we were escorted to the third floor, where the attention to detail and service truly stood out. Our server, John, made the experience exceptional by starting us off with complimentary cocktails and a light appetizer--both perfectly crafted and delicious. We ordered the fire-roasted oysters, which were simply divine, along with a crisp and flavorful wedge salad. For the main course, the filet was cooked to perfection--tender, juicy, and full of flavor--paired beautifully with rich, savory potato scallops. To top it all off, we were treated to a complimentary dessert: a decadent chocolate cake served with smooth vanilla ice cream. Every detail, from the ambiance to the service and the food, was flawless. This is easily a 5-star experience, and I will absolutely be returning!

I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this spot (except I'm pretty sure the AC was broken because it was HOT) but the food and service was outstanding. One of the better steakhouses I've been to.

Ask the Community - Maple & Ash

Do they give free cake for your birthday?

Nope! Be prepared to pay $18-20 for a dessert.

Does anyone at the table need to do the IDGAF brunch or can some people at the table order it and others order a la carte?

Everyone at the table needs to order it. Just like any fine dining establishment, the special menu must be ordered by everyone.

How is the noise level in this restaurant? baby-friendly?

It's definitely not baby friendly. Like others have mentioned it's a loud dining experience because of the little lounge they have in the front of the place plus just the den of people talking and having a good time. They do not have a kids menu and…

Is the patio heated? Need a last minute reservation for Friday!

Are ripped jeans but a nice dressy shirt acceptable for men?

No ripped jeans is right in the published dress code.

How do I get "Happy F*@king birthday custom menu at Maple & Ash?

You request it when you make your reservation!

Does the IDGAF menu include alcohol with the meal kr are drinks extra?

I received a small welcome-in drink when we arrived at the table and a shot of vodka and caviar as part of the meal. 2 small alcoholic drinks.

Do you have valet? If so, how much? Also. On open table, it doesn't require a deposit to reserve but on the other website it does, what's the difference?

Hi! Yes, they have valet. I'm not sure how much. We made our reservation on Open Table and at the end of the process we did have to pay a deposit. Hope this helps!

Do you all have brunch? What times?

Hello! Yes, our main dining room has brunch every sunday from 11am-2pm!

If I cancel before the 48-hour cutoff, will the $100 per person deposit be refunded?

IDK.

Hello, I received a reply back to my review to message the business to continue the conversation, but there doesn't seem to be a contact option on the Yelp listing. Is there an email address I can use to contact you?

Hi Veasna - please email info@mapleandash.com. Thank you!

My deposit was not applied on my final bill. Who can I speak with to get this refunded?

Hello! I am sorry to hear that! Please email info@mapleandash.com Thank you!

Are the Pro and Baller seafood towers priced per person, or are the prices listed on the menu for the whole tower?

Per tower I believe.

Is the seafood tower worth it for just one person?

Depends on your definition of worth it. I personally think so.

Is there a possibility for a walk in for a party of one?

Bar seating is usually available if they can't get you a table!

Does everyone in the party of 4 have to order the don't give a fu@k? Or can 1 person order it for themselves?

Hello! The whole table with have to participate in the IDGAF menu.

Can you try the tasting menu while sitting at the bar rather than the dining room?

I do not see why they would not accommodate you.

Does the reservation fee go towards the bill?

Yes but they also have health insurance fee on the bill as well.

With the change on COVID restrictions in ChicGo, is proof of vaccination still required?

I was there a few weeks ago and did not need to show any proof. Just wearing masks when you're not at your table.

Is there a specific Dress code?

Not really. Guest normally dress business casual. But I have seen those who were dressed in jeans. But because you're such a nice place, I would suggest that you dress business casual.

Love me some sushi, so I was excited to try the California roll, although it was hard to justify it being $18!!! The crab was very minimal, as you can tell by the pictures... it was missing the classic California roll taste given barely any meat. The Mac and cheese side was good. Nothing too special. plus. Wow! The first time…read morewe came to the Chicago location of Hugo's Frog Bar, we had the Jumbo Lump Crab Cake and it was amazing - best I'd ever had. That was 12 years ago. Since then, I've had crab cakes all over the U.S. and Hugo's remained my gold standard. Tonight, 12 years later, we returned to Hugo's on Rush Street downtown Chicago. We had a 6 pm reservation on a Monday night. We were given the option to eat in the special Elevator Car, so we chose it. It was a bit tight getting into the bench seating but once in, we were quite comfortable and it was really quaint. I'm glad we chose it. Our server tonight was Stephanie O and she was amazing. So knowledgeable, so pleasant and very accommodating. We told Stephanie we planned to take it a bit slow, starting with cocktails. She took our cocktail orders and we took our time enjoying them, admiring our special Elevator Car and pondering dinner options. Of course, a Crab Cake was definitely happening! Stephanie checked in with us from time to time and when we were ready, we asked her to drop a Crab Cake order. Oh my - it was amazing, just like the last time! Just enough breadcrumbs in it to hold it together. Baked, then seared on both sides on the flat top and served with their house made remoulade. For us, this menu item and a service as great as it was from Stephanie and the rest of the team was enough of a reason to come to Hugo's. After we'd finished sharing the Crab Cake, Stephanie stopped by with the fresh fish options platter to explain each one to us, how it would be prepared and what it would be like. We nearly went for the Snapper but dropped back to our original thought of trying their Shrimp De Jonghe along with a dinner salad. So glad we did as the Shrimp De Jonghe was really tasty and just enough food. The salad and shrimp meal were both kitchen-split for us. Nice touch - thanks team! I have to add that we've had Shrimp De Jonghe somewhere else and we recall it as not being as good as Hugo's. I like how their breadcrumb on the shrimp here was less a breading and more of a dusting. I'd like to mention the rest of the staff we saw in action. The hostesses were quite pleasant, found our reservation and seated us with pleasure. The table team from the water guy, to him and others clearing completed items was excellent. The chef or one of the cooks brought out our split Shrimp De Jonghe. That was a nice touch. In Chicago for a few days and relying on Yelp to take us to new places…read more Nora was 2 blocks from our hotel. This place is all about service. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted and escorted quickly to our table outside. Mirco was our server and we asked him for recommendations. He was so spot on it was amazing! We started with 1/2 dozed oysters and Tuna tartare. The tartare melted in your mouth and had a mild flavor. You could taste everything from the capers to the lemon in each bite. I'm not a huge oyster fan but my fiancé seemed to love them. Mirco recommended the Sardinian style ravioli filled with melt in your mouth short rib smothered in a rich mushroom and truffle sauce. Heaven!! She ordered the beet salad with salmon and gigantic grilled shrimp added. She just raved about it all. I appreciated great food but great service is what makes it a memorable experience. This checked all the boxes. 5 stars!

I decided to check out this place for a weekday dinner WITHOUT reservations. I knew that having…read morereservations would make dining easier but I didn't plan in advance. I arrived around 6PM for a table, I was told I could go to the bar for bar seating or get my name on the list and wait. So I went to the bar but surprisingly, there were couple other parties waiting at the bar for a seating too. We actually waited about 45 minutes at the bar for seating, and then I received a text an hour later that a table would be ready. Since I was already seated at the bar, I kept my bar seating and forgo the table. So you might be able to get a table seating if you get your name on the list for a weekday dinner. I have to admit this place felt very dim, it feels darker - I supposed that tis the ambiance of a nicer, upscale restaurant. However, I have to admit they are laxed on the dress code. I don't actually know if there's a dress code although a lot of people are in more business casual/dressy attire. I wasn't in anything dressy though and no one said anything. As for the food, I think it is delicious. So we ordered 2 different steak dishes - the bone in aged rib eye and the steak & frites. I love the pairing salt that comes with it, it really tops it off for the steaks. We also ordered sides -- sides do not come with the steaks, they are purchased separately. However, the creamed spinach and the truffle mac and cheese were amazingly delicious. I still remembered the deliciousness as I am writing this review. The sides definitely tops it off. I think they do an excellent job cooking the steak, I love that they already cut it perfectly for me. This is an excellent steak place, great sides. It can get a little busy/crowded, but service is also pretty good. I think the staff does a good job overall given the craziness of this place. It seems like it is always packed. I see people in their "work attire" come here for drinks too and possibly for a bite to eat. I would definitely recommend this place to others -- if you don't want to wait for a table, plan ahead and book a reservation ahead of time. But this place is "casual" enough for you to stop in to grab some food if you're willing to wait.

Came here for a weekend in Chicago, heard so many good things about it including my chicago local…read morefriends. It's a dark chicago pub looking place with dim lighting and mood lighting, making it look exactly like you'd imagine. We came for walk in at 4 and were told we could sit at the bar immediately or wait for a table. We chose to wait for a table because we weren't fully hungry yet, and got a callback at 5, perfect for us. We ordered the sourdough, crab avocado salad, dry aged ribeye, fried chicken, and mac and cheese. Sourdough: 10/10- ate the entire loaf before we even got the appetizers. Salad: 10/10- amazing flavor and unique. We usually never order salad but this sounded so unique and didn't disappoint - creamy, acidic, perfect appetizer. Fried Chicken: 8/10- above average fried chicken on mashed potatoes. Well spiced but nothing to write home about. Ribeye: 10/10- great steak and honestly not bad pricing. Great crust and flavor, would definitely recommend to split for 2 since it's big. Mac and Cheese: 4/10- pasta was not hot and was undercooked. I usually like al dente but this pasta was hard. It was barely cheesy and was like a alfredo sauce more than cheesy, and the crust on top was lukewarm and stagnant like it had been sitting there. Overall great experience but avoid the mac and cheese.
