First, I picked this place because of many of you yelpers. I feared I may be left with the only option of massage envy because I decided to book for Sunday on a Saturday night...but Mantis was a beacon of hope with reasonable pricing and availability. Second, I enjoyed that Mantis Massage provided "quips" on all of their employees on their website, describing what they are best at and why. When booking my massage (easily online ),I knew I didn't have a choice per-say (as I booked the night before), but was able to go read about my potential muscle buster for the next day. Y'all may have already figured this out, but this is about to be a long review. I knew I was in the right place when I was sitting in the waiting room and a masseuse got on the ground with a ball and demonstrated to her last client how to work some of his muscles. That's dedication. Lindsay D's quip states, "Lindsay hunts down tension like a wolf on the prowl." And prowl she did. I named my shoulder region as my biggest area of need, but she quickly realized my lower back was really the area of interest. We all know how it is, we go with what we are used to and normally it's my shoulders. Lindsay "got deep" without being painful, and by deep, I mean deep. She knew what she was doing and focused on the entire muscle, insuring a well rounded experience. Her pressure level was consistent throughout the massage and that is something I have to commend. To take a step back, for 4 years a had regular medical massages for my scoliosis and a slipped disk... so I have had a lot of massages, just not recently. I found the staff and the non-spa venue to be refreshing. If you are looking for a spa day with facials and saunas please move on and let us -- who just want a great massage -- keep patronizing Mantis. It turns out, it was Lindsay D. who demonstrated the ball exercise and she equally provided me great insight and follow up. I recommend Lindsay and if she is the bar, I assume all other staff is bar none, the best. The Congress location is easy to access and has ample parking. There is no overwhelming scent of overused oils or air of gimmick. I will update after my next session with Lindsay D. Which I will be upping to 90 minutes... I got more problems than Kanye. read more

Thank you Mantis Massage and whoever cancelled their appointment that allowed me to schedule a last minute 60 min. massage. I woke up yesterday morning with my back so tense that i ended up rolling out of bed . I knew I needed to do something or I was going to walk around all week stooped over. I did my typical google/yelp search and came upon Mantis Massage. I booked an appointment with Magda online. Booking was really easy. I pointed out my problem areas to Magda and in the time allotted she did her best to work out the knots. I wish she had more time because the massage was great. The pressure was spot on . Not to much, not to little, and a few grab the table when she hit a particular bad spot . I left relaxed. My back and legs felt great. i plan to return soon to Mantis to work out the rest of the knots. read more

I don't understand all these 5-star reviews. Here's my experience: Pros: so easy to book online! what a relief and how convenient! nice pricing options! 30, 45, 60 minutes. It's nice options. Cons: 1st massage (therapist #1): awful. Worst massage I've ever had. Not worth any $$$ 2nd massage (therapist #2): decent. Gave good tips on stretching after massage. 3rd massage (therapist #2): came late and was half asleep, awful massage, I had asked her to not play music with words. She kept on forgetting and had to change her playlist a couple times. Took forever to come back to the room and start my massage after I changed. All of this without adding any extra time to make up for these mistakes. * They don't have a receptionist so if you come 5 minutes early and they're with a client or not there yet or sleeping, you need to wait outside. * Perhaps the "advanced" therapists are better. I didn't try them. In conclusion, it's a hit or miss. If you find a good therapist, lucky you! I wouldn't describe this place as 'high quality' but rather ...mediocre. read more

Went in for a prenatal massage at 37 weeks pregnant. After turning a corner and not feeling well from some of the 'full term' pains/discomforts of pregnancy, I left the massage feeling happy, comfortable in my body and restored! As always, the masseuses here are wonderful and know exactly how to work out your knots and leave you feeling relaxed and pain free! I had my first massage with Khammi today and was really impressed by how she seems to be using eight different hands all at once. I also really liked her use of cupping, which I've never done before, because I could feel my knots releasing under the suction. I've been here twice, and both of my experiences were fantastic. I was made to feel comfortable the whole time. I'm extremely stiff and tense from years and years of bad posture and sleeping on floors/chairs/desks/you name it as a stressed out student, and needed a deep tissue massage. My first massage was 45 minutes with Kendra, who knew exactly where I was feeling the most tense--in my shoulders and neck. She worked on my legs and all around took me to another world. My second massage was an hour with Katie Rae, who worked some serious magic with her full body massage. She took extra time on my shoulders and neck, and I walked out feeling like all my knots were worked out and tension released. Unfortunately I'm no longer living in Austin, but I would definitely give Mantis a visit the next time I'm in town. read more

Just had a massage with Kate at the South Austin location. Could not have gone better! Numerous COVID precautions were taken prior to the massage and made me feel comfortable in the setting and relaxed. You will wear a mask throughout the massage. Kate was outstanding, focusing on the areas i requested with the right level of pressure. Her post-massage guidance on stretching and dealing with upper back ache was also appreciated. I don't know how I ever lived without Mantis Massage. I don't want to call it a "no frills" studio because it's so much more than that. No, they do not have day spa amenities but they do have the most hands on (pun intended) and most intune masseuses that I have ever come across. I'm talking massages in San Francisco, LA, San Diego, New York, London... this is the best massage I've ever received EVERY time. Instead of filling out the disclosure form when you walk in and them throwing it behind the counter, they make sure to really look into your issues and make sure that you get the most of what you are there for. I've loved everyone I've tried but Kendra especially works wonders on me. She takes the time to work deep into my trouble issues (I've had a fractured neck and multiple issues for 10+ years) and try creative stretching and pressure points to try to relieve the pain. Mantis is beyond affordable as well and sign up for their newsletter because A. they don't spam and B. the lovely owner sends out wonderful discounts and tid bits. read more

Kendra is an absolute GOD SEND. After years of being in the service industry, massage therapy is one of those must needed services to keep your body happy and efficient. I've struggled to find a place that was not only affordable, but where I could build a relationship with the therapist to meet my distinct needs. Kendra not only listens and helps target those problem areas, she does extensive research and takes the time to really meet my specific needs. The atmosphere at Mantis is very respectful, and peaceful. The rooms are inviting, clean, and extremely comfortable. I had 60 minute massage with Kelsey yesterday and it was the best massage I've ever gotten! She took the time to ask what areas specifically needed more attention and so the massage felt very custom for me. She used the perfect amount of pressure for what I asked. In my experience, some therapists at other places overuse heavy pressure when you say that's what you want, but Kelsey seemed very intentional with her techniques. The price was also very reasonable. I don't normally take the time to do a review for a service but felt I had to give Mantis Massage, specifically Rosalyn, one of the advanced massage therapists a shout out for the outstanding massage she gave me last week. To start, Rosalyn has a very calming and gentle way about her that you feel relaxed and comfortable as soon as you walk through the door. The massage on a scale from 1 to 10 was an absolute 10+++!!!!!! Rosalyn is really strong and takes the time to work through every knot, I felt like butter when she was done. I routinely drive down Cumberland to get to work, so I was pretty intrigued when I saw Mantis go in under the corner store. My upper back has always been a problem for me - thanks to hours at a desk every day - but I had been in excruciating pain for the last several days and knew I needed to get a massage as soon as possible. Their online booking program was super easy and I was able to book a same day appointment quickly. I was the last client of the day, so the place was really quiet and peaceful. Kendra and I really hit things off and we ended up chatting for the second half of the appointment. I felt like she really listened to me and targeted the places I really needed/wanted. I was pain free at the end of the appointment, and able to finally roll my shoulders back and stand up straight. This was something I hadn't been able to do in a while. I was in great hands - literally - with Hunter as my masseuse. I felt very safe with their Covid procedures, and like a brand new person after my massage. I have scoliosis, and have had bad experiences in the past with masseuses not understanding that and causing pain. Hunter erased any concerns I had by knowing the anatomical groups of muscles and vertebrae that were giving me trouble, never caused me pain, and I could not recommend them enough! read more

Mantis has saved my ability to move many times. If you ever get a muscle locked up, this place is the key to unlock it. If you're miserably sore and in pain, they'll get in deep and roll it right out. Or even if you're simply stressed and just need to make your body relax for once, this is the place to go.
