The massage itself was great. However, there was confusion at checkout that left a bad impression. During the massage, I asked Vivian--using her phone to translate--whether hot stones were included or an extra charge. The translation clearly confirmed that hot stones were included. At checkout, the clerk told me I had requested an additional 30 minutes during the massage and attempted to charge me $30 more. This was not true. After some back and forth, they did not end up making me pay the extra charge, but the interaction felt very awkward and uncomfortable. They blamed the misunderstanding on Vivian's English, even though the only thing translated was my question about hot stones. I wish this had been handled more professionally and transparently. read more

A solid massage place that is better your typical Asian massage place. The interior is really clean and organized with nice decor. I liked this place because it is a true full body massage, I love it when they include hand massage, I just wished a bit more time was spent on the feet. The price is still pretty fair. read more

Great spot for a good massage. We paid $70 for a 60 minute massage, but that included a private room with a massage bed not a chair or open room like you see at some other places. The ambience was very peaceful and serene. Our massage therapists were very good really dug into the knots, And checked in on pressure throughout the massage. Overall, I would say this is a very good deal because they give you a higher level of service than you would expect from your more typical Chinese massage place. Highly recommend! read more

I had high hopes for this place because of its proximity and good reviews, but unfortunately, it didn't meet my expectations. While the price is reasonable, the service fell very short, and I don't plan to return. When I arrived, my massage therapist showed me to the room but didn't provide any instructions or ask for any intake information. Unsure of what to do, I had to step out and ask if I should undress. She simply said yes and to get under the sheet. Oddly, the sanitary cover for the headrest was just a kitchen paper towel. During the massage, things got more uncomfortable. People walked in through the front door, and my therapist left me mid-session to handle the customers. When she returned, another woman came into the room, and they spoke to each other briefly. It wasn't until I flipped over that I realized the massage therapists had switched without telling me, which was unsettling. For a few minutes, they seemed to be walking in and out, talking loudly with the door open, leaving me feeling exposed and unable to fully relax. The massage itself was lackluster. There was a lot of basic rubbing with little focus on therapeutic work or any real technique. The application was inconsistent, with some areas receiving attention and others neglected, like my feet, which weren't touched at all. The best part was the neck work when I flipped over--I wish that had been the focus of the session. To make matters worse, the door wouldn't shut properly when it was time to change. And when it came time to pay, the lowest suggested tip was 28%, which isn't fooling anyone but sure is annoying. Based on the reviews, I had hoped this would be a place I could visit regularly, but I'd rather spend more and drive farther for a more relaxing and professional experience. read more

I like this place because it is clean and the ambiance is soothing. I noticed some other reviewers were a little confused about location. There are two locations in the same plaza for this place. Previous owners also had it set up this way. So when you book your appointment be sure to ask whether it is in the front or the back location. My massage was with Lucy and it was great. My hamstrings get really tight when I am stressed (I'm sitting most of the day) and this causes all sorts of issues with my knees etc) . I will say that Lucy has strong fingertips but the pressure is perfect and she can adjust to your liking. I really like it when you don't have to say anything and the pressure is perfect. I had a knee issue and she removed several knots in my right leg, the next day my knee issues were gone - that's the power of a good masseuse in my book! - strong fingertips (and very good at removing knots!) - good pressure level - good command of the English language These three qualities in my mind make me a return customer and she is now my go-to! I will definitely return here and recommend it. Sure, it is about $10 more for the service than economical massage places, but from my experience you get what you pay for. read more

I found Total Relax here on Yelp. I decided to see if I could get a walk-in appointment. When I arrived, I was greeted and checked to see if they could give me a 45 minute massage. The lovely woman said they could get me in at their other location that is around the corner. I had read the comments about 2 locations in the same shopping center so I was aware of this. I went to the other location and was greeted by Yumi. I was taken to a nice, clean, relaxing room. I only wanted my back and neck worked on, and Yumi was AMAZING! She was very methodical with how she worked on me, and I felt my muscles were beautifully warmed up before she attempted deeper massage. I appreciated this because it helped me be able to relax while getting a very therapeutic massage. I will definitely go back to see Yumi! read more

People are nice and accommodating, my therapist was Lucy and she was fantastic- tiny gal but strong! Place looks a little dated, but it's clean and very reasonable prices. I'd recommend painting/ freshening up the restroom (a very dark color in a small space was a little uncomfortable), and also would be a good idea to have your customers provide a form with any injuries or areas to avoid ... I noticed the forms on the front counter but no one offered them to me or asked questions. I had a very good massage, and was able to communicate my needs to Lucy just fine, but this would help in the future in case of a customer having an injury or sensitive areas (I.e. I have a former shoulder injury). I noticed some saying they had issues finding the place, but I did not -- the front door / main entrance is facing Hancock. This business sits right between Parkcrest Floral Design and Parchman Insurance, in a small plaza. FYI, their English is good but not fluent. Be patient and kind. You can tell they work hard to understand you and provide good service despite some language barriers. Don't let this keep you from trying this place. read more

Tried Total Relax last night. My hamstrings were miserable from cleaning up after the ice storm. Lucy dug in there as well as my neck and shoulders and broke up all the knots. I took her recommendation and took an epsom salt bath today. I added 1 cup to the running hot water, swished it around to dissolve it all and made sure to stay in for 20 minutes. That was HUGE. Did not feel relaxed at all. Booked a couples session for 90 minutes because we wanted the cupping therapy. My lady left me a few times. Don't know why. They also left the door cracked open the whole time and when she left, the door would swing wide open, while I'm shirtless in the room.... My massage sucked. She was rubbing me of most the time. She would put pressure where pressure isn't needed and it would start to hurt. Her nails also scratched me a few times. Some times she would rub me so much that it felt like I was getting an Indian burn cause the oil was wearing out. I was getting so bored with my massage that I wanted it to be over after the first 45 minutes. Regrets booking such a long massage. If I knew I wasn't gonna get my cupping therapy, I would've booked at a different location. Probably one of the worst massage I've ever gotten in my life. And they ladies kept talking to each other, made me feel so uncomfortable. After she wiped me down with the warm towel, the AC blasted on me and made me super cold. When she was massaging my head, she didn't even get the right pressure points. She also scratched my head with her nails. Did not like that at all. My boyfriend said his massage was fine though, but his lady didn't leave him multiple times, only once to get his warm towel. read more

I have been going to Total Relax since 20216. They always used to be amazing. Ever since it was sold in 2020, I've noticed a decline in the quality. I believe it's because the therapists all work back to back with no breaks and are over worked. The last I went, my therapist was so exhausted she zoned out on the same spot for 30 minutes. I had to ask her to follow the other therapist who was working on my husband. In good conscience, I won't be back until the employees get treated better. I hope they improve! read more

Such a gem. I almost drove right by this place. I was nervous after reading so many diff yelp reviews...but I've become a regular here! I have not idea what people are talking about when they say the massage was not good. When booking, I just specified I need someone who does hard pressure and every time I've gotten the perfect massage. My BF has a chronic back issue and his pain was greatly relieved for weeks after the massage. The staff is kind and sweet. As long as you're not looking for some ultra fancy place with mimosa's and don't mind using simple words since many of the therapist are ESL (which I have NEVER had a translation issue), then I would 100% suggest Total Relax. I see why they have 5 stars!!! Ever since I moved to Austin Ive been looking for a great massage therapist and I finally found em. Not only was it a fantastic massage with just the right amount of pressure, stretching and relaxation but the place is super professional, clean and kind. From their paperwork to the end of the massage they covered it all. They are cautious and implement precautions for Covid, they have you fill out a form letting them know the spots where you need extra work and attention and they are communicative (not overly) during the massage as well to make sure they are accommodating to all your massage needs. Also, they are extremely reasonably priced and especially for the quality of service, it's a great deal. This is definitely my new place and Leah is definitely my new massage therapist. Booked a massage and halfway through my masseuse left and another girl came in and took over. They will try to pressure you into leaving a 30% tip for mediocre massage. I left over 20% and she had the audacity to tell me other people leave more and acted like computer wasn't working and tried to get me to select the 30% option that they set as one of the default options. I go to Total Relax a few times a month to get totally relaxed and every single time I come out more relaxed than I ever thought was possible! I have several troubled areas that I have had knots in for years and they are the only place I have found in the past 10+years that can actually manage to work the knots out in a meticulous and careful manner! They are they SWEETEST, most compassionate group of folks who truly care about the WHOLE body! Therefore, I feel pretty confident in my review. :) Pros: Clean spot Very comfortable massage tables Very sweet staff Very easy to get in to be seen Decent to superb massages Cons: Pricing varies on the service, depending on who you get - by $10 Services that are mentioned on the website that come with a massage aren't the services you'll get If you don't request Nancy, I can't guarantee your massage will be the best it could be - While Nancy understands "deep, hard pressure," others (I have had 3 others) do not. The ability for the staff to speak or move quietly in the spa is simply not doable for them; always loud chatter and moving around loudly - weird. I've been for foot massages, a 90 minute massage and a neck massage (which wasn't a neck massage at all). When I went in for the neck massage, I called in beforehand to schedule the appointment, stating specifically I wanted the 45 minute neck massage. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a really sweet staff member who I told I'd called in and made an appointment for a neck massage. She said "oh! Yes - how long would you like?" I told her the 45 minute neck massage. She said ok and prepared the room, called me back and let me get ready. When she came back in, what I got was a 45 minute back massage - just my back - mainly lower. I mentioned to her that it was my neck and shoulders that were sore and that I'd wanted that worked on. She then proceeded for about 5 minutes to give a weird neck massage that basically felt like someone rubbing in lotion. When we were finished, she said the total was $55... ok. I paid and left, disheartened, as I had really looked forward to a really awesome neck massage. I knew that, from the reviews, this had to be a fluke. I wasn't going to give up on this spot! I forgot this young lady's name - apologies! I came back and got Nancy - right on! I'd read review about how awesome she was and WOW ARE THEY TRUE! I got an hour foot massage this time. It was truly incredible! She's amazing, does a great job, communicates and asks about the pressure and knows her stuff! I left feeling amazing and had my faith restored in the healing abilities of Total Relax. Also, she charged as per the website - $10 discount for women. I couldn't wait to come back! I've since been back twice and Nancy wasn't available. I now know to never go again if she's not. I scheduled the 90 minute massage. Thinking that, with the bars above all the massage tables, someone could do some serious work on my knots and tense muscles. Also listed on the site is the free hot stone massage with any massage. I've never had that... and was hoping I would with the 90 minute massage. With the 90 minute, I also asked for the Ba Guan that is supposed to be included with it for free. I didn't receive that. :( The woman asked what type of pressure I'd like and I said very deep and hard pressure. It was ok sometimes, then sometimes it was not deep or hard at all - reason I was looking forward to the use of the bars for some serious "get those knots out!" massage. This last foot massage I got was just not awesome at all. The young lady (as they all are) was so sweet - but again, pressure would be medium at some point, weird, "it puts the lotion on" soft rubbing other times and, in the spots I really needed the serious deep tissue, nothing but a swipe over. Now, I say all this so that people are aware that want serious deep, get those knots out massages, know to get Nancy (as I know now), while any and everyone else will be so happy with whomever they get. Again, all the staff is wonderful and polite and attentive, it just didn't meet my needs. I would suggest that they work on being more ninja-like outside of the massage rooms, so that people are able to relax and enjoy stillness and peace while getting a massage. The therapist was friendly and cared about resolving my issues (tension, restricted range of motion). They offer ashiatsu / walk the back massage. I have been here several times with a varied experience. I often found myself here because it was the closest and most convenient. But I think I need to scratch it off my list. My last visit the therapist spent almost 40 mins of the 60 mins walking on my back. IMO, this is a therapist's dirty little secret - the longer they can walk on your back, the less effort they really need to exert. It literally takes no effort or energy to just use your body weight and stand on someone's back. I don't mind 5-10 mins of it to loosen things up but beyond that it is just a therapist being lazy and this time it was ridiculous how long she kept going at, just doing the same steps over and over. This used to be my favorite place to go for years. The quality of massages was always amazing, I used to leave as a completely new person. 5 out of 5 stars for the last few years. However, recently, very unfortunately, it has not been the same. I've gone twice over the last few months and the massages have not been good. Not terrible, but the two ladies I had an appointment with on different days had been well below average. It seems like they don't know what they are doing, massaging in all the wrong places (bones and not my muscle, applying light pressure to bigger muscles, or completely skipping over my quads that were super sore). They focus on completely different areas that don't help me at all even though I specifically ask them where to focus. Each time it seemed like they didn't know they had an appointment, and it seemed like they were not ready for me. But that wouldn't matter if I actually felt like my massages made a difference to my sore muscles. I'm extremely disappointed and sad I no longer have this gem of a place that I used to go to. This place lost all the awesome talent they used to have that made this such a great spot. :( read more

I took a tumble on the sidewalk the other day. I choose to believe there was a small earthquake, and it had nothing to do with the two glasses of agave wine (Okay, okay, they were margaritas, are you happy?). Anyway, I scraped myself up, and jerked something out of place in my hip/leg. I'm not a believer in chiropractic pseudomedicine, so I searched for Chinese deep tissue massage, which has done wonders for me at home in Chicago. Total Relax popped up, had online reservations, and so I promptly made an appointment. Price for women is $60 for $60 minutes, $70 for men. That seemed odd, but whatever. I was the only one there, and I'm pretty sure my therapist was the only employee there. To make a long story short - it hurts so good. She gave me a comprehensive workover, and focused on glutes, knee, and leg. She also did that thing I've never seen in person, only on TV, and hopped up on the table a couple of times to be able to apply harder pressure. I'm not 100%, but at least I can squat without being in immense pain. read more
