Book reservation for my husband and myself incorrectly (asked for 90min but booked for 60min) 2. Had to call back to confirm correct length of time for massage (upon reading confirmation text). 3. Got a call at 9pm (woke baby up) to tell me that they couldn't confirm a 90 minutes reservation for my husband because the masseuse may or may not be able to do a 90 minute massage. (Turns out the masseuse had an injury and they weren't sure if she could do a 90minute) 4. Husband's masseuse (the one with the injury) didn't ask him how the pressure was even ONCE and barely applied any pressure. If your staff is injured, then they really shouldn't be performing massages. We were on vacation and this was supposed to be our special treat. It turns out it was the catalyst for ruining on morning and day. Also, FYI. the location is SUPER hidden (which staff should really let people know, especially when they say they're from out of town). Miss the street and it will take you another 5-10 minutes to get back around.

However, with my highly stressful, sit-down job/life, a massage was becoming a dire necessity. Her first ministrations down my spine caused near-instant change in my tension. I could feel relief flooding through my body. I kept waiting for chatter (which I definitely didn't want) and/or comments about all the knots in my back and everywhere else she felt them (sorry, Kelsey!), but she worked methodically and purposefully. Before I knew it, the 90 minute session was over! Thank you so much for a thoroughly enjoyable massage!!!

I was desperate for some relief, at the tail end of a horrible flu and achy from coughing, sneezing, and sleeping upright. I'm pretty picky but from the moment Laura started, I could feel how connected and in synch she was with me. She could tell when energy was being held and released, she observed where I was holding tension, and delivered the massage at a slow deliberate pace to help release it. I had only booked an hour but because she makes every second count, it felt like she worked on me much longer. She wasn't stuck to a routine but worked intuitively and thoughtfully. Her touch is both confident and calming. Laura provided a truly healing session and I will happily recommend her to anyone. She is a gift to the world of the healing arts.

I'm the one who literally laughs out loud when visiting a new studio or therapist, completing the questionnaire that asks "Is this your first professional massage?" No, no it's not. Over the years, I've seen at least a few dozen massage therapists from California to New York, and everywhere in between. I'm happy to be a repeat customer if I get what I need from a session, and the first to take off and keep looking if it falls flat. Truth be told, Laura Ann was actually my WIFE'S go-to-gal for several months before she worked on me. And ever since, my wife and I have been at war, fighting for prime massage time slots in Laura Ann's busy weekend schedule. What I love about Laura Ann: - No massage is the same; she's very attune to the status of my body on any given day - If she finds a problem area, she sticks with it, despite what I said I was looking for when I hit the table. Some folks may not like this, but I'd rather have total relief on one area rather than short-lived relief all over. That's just me... - She's friendly, personable, and really easy to be around. I found myself almost instantaneously comfortable with her, making it super easy to have a conversation about how I'm feeling and what I need. There's nothing worse than a talented massage therapist who lacks basic people skills, in my opinion. Really can't say enough good things about Laura Ann. She's definitely, officially, my go-to-gal in Austin.

A couple of months ago, my friend, who is a massage therapist, took a workshop on Thai massage…read more Luckily, she wanted to test out her techniques on someone, and luckily, I happened to be nearby. Holy cow. My muscles didn't know what hit them. After that brief introduction to Thai massage, I decided I wanted to try out the real deal. So my search led me to Yelp, which led me to Mark Bonus. First of all, his name. How cool is his name? When you meet him in real life, you immediately begin to question your lifestyle and wonder how can you become more like Mark. He is zen. He is peaceful. He is calm. I adore his aura. Then, there is the massage. It's soothing and therapeutic. I felt like a giant blob that Mark was molding and putting back together. I never want to get up from the mat after he is done. So, the first time I visited, I opted for the 60 minute Thai massage. It is not enough time. On my subsequent trips, I've booked 90 minute sessions, which gives him more time to focus on my problem areas. I believe most Thai massage therapists generally recommend at least 90 minutes, so keep that in mind if you decide to book, which I highly, highly, suggest you do. Your body will thank you.

Its the best of both worlds and it was incredible. Third, $1/minute is incredibly reasonable and I would have paid more than that for this massage. Now onto the review... To call Bonus a magician would be to insult his knowledge, body awareness intelligence, touch, and craft that he clearly has mastered. Its been 2 weeks since my massage and I'm tempted to get on a plane back to Austin just so that I can see him. I spent 2.5 hours with this man and not only did I love his home, love the sacred space he created for massage, and have a great time getting to know him, I left knowing more about my body. I also left walking straighter and taller than ever before. He's incredibly attentive to parts of your body that are tight, for me it was my hips. Which he stretched and massaged in every which way and they felt better for days. This wasn't just a massage, it was a lesson in body mechanics. I learned about pain/tightness usually occurring on diagonals (sore left shoulder, tight right hip, etc.). He massaged the front part of my shoulder, my pecs, which most people forget/don't work on. Most of us spend our life hunched forward in some way - at a computer, hunched back, etc., so its incredibly important to massage a muscle and joint from the front and back. I kinda knew this, but Bonus cemented it. He also taught me a killer massage for the front of my hip flexors, which almost made me want to puke, but I felt like I got new hips. There's nothing to think about. This man is amazing, so go get a massage from him. Oh and sassy miss waxy, his lovely partner, is pretty rad too so take care of that if you need. Hopefully I'll be back in Austin soon or I'll clone Bonus and bring him to SF. Side note: I'm not sure if anyone reading this is nervous about a male masseuse, but let me assure you, you have nothing to worry about. First, Bonus is just a good, kind gentle soul and you see that the minute you meet him. 2, Sassy Miss Waxy and he run their business out of their home and it rocks. And 3, if you're uncomfortable, get a thai massage where you can wear yoga clothes and it will be incredible.
