Kelsey was absolutely phenomenal. I hadn't had a massage in a year or more due to work and in actuality, I'm very ticklish. However, with my highly stressful, sit-down job/life, a massage was becoming a dire necessity. Her first ministrations down my spine caused near-instant change in my tension. I could feel relief flooding through my body. I kept waiting for chatter (which I definitely didn't want) and/or comments about all the knots in my back and everywhere else she felt them (sorry, Kelsey!), but she worked methodically and purposefully. Don't be fooled by this 5 star review. Here's a list of things that totally went wrong (service AND massage-wise) and the only thing the staff could say was "I'm sorry, but there's nothing I can do" or "I"m sorry but I wasn't here for that" 1. Book reservation for my husband and myself incorrectly (asked for 90min but booked for 60min) 2. Had to call back to confirm correct length of time for massage (upon reading confirmation text). 3. Got a call at 9pm (woke baby up) to tell me that they couldn't confirm a 90 minutes reservation for my husband because the masseuse may or may not be able to do a 90 minute massage. (Turns out the masseuse had an injury and they weren't sure if she could do a 90minute) 4. Husband's masseuse (the one with the injury) didn't ask him how the pressure was even ONCE and barely applied any pressure. If your staff is injured, then they really shouldn't be performing massages. We were on vacation and this was supposed to be our special treat. It turns out it was the catalyst for ruining on morning and day. Also, FYI. the location is SUPER hidden (which staff should really let people know, especially when they say they're from out of town). Miss the street and it will take you another 5-10 minutes to get back around. read more

Kristen has magical hands. I was referred to her by an acquaintance of mine who is shooting her wedding next year -- we are both wedding photographers and so by default we are always a little hunchy and sore from carrying loads of heavy gear for long periods of time, running around all day, squatting, raising our cameras to our faces over and over, etc. And we also sit in front of our computers for hours editing images. Not the best combo for our backs! I'd had a previous professional massage experience at another massage place that went sour -- sometime last year I had an anxiety attack on the massage table. Based on that experience I assumed that I was destined to never get another massage again, until this past wedding season when I realized that my shoulders were totally knotted up and it hurt to turn my head to one side, and that I really needed someone to work the kinks out. Kristen and her magical hands fixed me up in an hour of deep tissue massage, and I didn't freak out on the table like I'd feared. She's really friendly and down-to-earth, made me feel comfortable, and even shared the same sense of humor as I do, so I felt myself relax in her presence. She even taught me a few little stretches to keep me loose when shooting. I went back today for a second massage and she worked her magic again. I walked out of there feeling like I'd been slipped into a new body. My shoulders, which are usually always somewhat sore, felt loose and noodley. My neck felt amazing. She'd also massaged my legs, which I didn't realize were tense, and that got rid of this random pain in one hip that had developed recently. The space is a little hard to find if you're not looking for it -- her office is located in a big office park that looks sorta like an apartment complex. But it's a nice space... cozy, friendly. Lots of parking so you don't have to add more stress to that. I love that it's easy to book an appointment online (I don't like using phones, so hemming and hawing over what time slot works best for me via internet is pretty awesome). I feel like Kristen takes the time to get to know her clients -- it was only my second visit and she'd remembered bits about me from our previous conversation. Highly recommended for prenatal massages! I have come here ten times during this pregnancy (my non-traditional insurance covers prenatal massages with a doctor's order, which is amazing). This is my third pregnancy and it has been the best gift- to have that time each week in my third trimester to get a 90 minute massage. Tip: if you can afford it financially and time-wise, go for the 90 minute over the 60 minute- the massage therapist has much more space to really work on areas and not be rushed. It was so relaxing. I have seen three different massage therapists here and the two I would recommend are Kelsey and Carolee- both are very kind, listened to my needs, and were really gifted at massage therapy. You'll be in great shape if you see either of these ladies! The other therapist I saw was not horrible- she just was not as professional (lights not dimmed during massage, was not dressed professionally) and I didn't like the style of her massage (it seemed to lack direction). Obviously i'm still giving a 5 star review because it was only 1/10 massages and the other 9 were great. All of the staff that I interacted with, from the ladies at the front desk, to the massage therapists, to the owner herself were all really down to earth and helpful. I am writing this review to share with others the great experience that I had during my premier appointment with Nora at Heart & Sole. I was seeking to have some work performed on my lower trapezius, so I followed a recommendation to book with Nora. I was impressed by the knowledge that she had with respect to anatomy and physiology, and, moreover, I was pleased by the way that she applied that knowledge in tandem with her hands to produce an altogether mindful massage. I really wish I could rate based on getting a massage, but instead it's based on customer service since I never made it to the massage. Made an appointment for a massage at 5:30 pm on Saturday evening for a massage scheduled for 3:30 pm on Sunday, the following day. Unfortunately, I woke up extremely sick on Sunday morning and decided it was definitely best to cancel. We called all morning, with no one answering the phones (because they didn't open until 1 pm, which is fine) and left a voicemail. We received a call at 12:45 pm and were told that since there wasn't a 12 hour notice when we cancelled, we were going to be charged half a session. Would they have preferred us call at 5 am this morning to cancel? We started calling their office at 9 am and no one answered. How can we cancel if no one answers the phone? Not really a great way to start off with a potential new client, since this would have been my first time there. We'll instead take our business elsewhere, to someone with better customer service. read more

So I was a little concerned about trusting the Yelp reviews, because I have never seen a business in Austin where everyone has put 5 stars. I was thinking they were paying for reviews. Whether that's the case I don't know, but after coming here, they do deserve 5 stars! Reservations online are very easy to make and they have a lot of slots open. When you go, make sure to put the address into your gps because you will miss the turn. Its not in a shopping center, more like a business park which threw me off. I received the 60 minute massage for $55 which after spending a day pricing them was a good bargain. The massage itself was amazing and the masseuse Ashley was great at tailoring the massage for your needs. It is a no frills places located in a business park so you can imagine the area is just a converted office space with dim lighting. OK - back again, because I hurt my hand (wrist, arm, neck and hip) by moving it in some odd way on Saturday. I was really in a lot of pain on Sunday. This time it is definitely a 5 star ++++++ rating!!! OH*MY*GOODNESS!!! It is a 5 star rating! Let me list the ways in which I can applaud this business (and my therapist). I booked around midnight last night on their 24/7 online booking system. LOVED THAT option. I was able to pay by check - that was just very convenient today! Everything was comfy... everything. Face rest soft, a lift for my legs, the temperature, the music and the demeanor of my therapist. I had Ashley today, by the way. Of course, Ashley was the shining star of the whole experience. She has to be one of the very best massage therapists I've EVER worked with. I have a favoritey favorite from Massachusetts, but I can't go to her anymore obviously (and I believe she has stopped practicing anyhow). Ashley knew EXACTLY where to work, her pressure was amazing, her timing, her balance of working on the pain and giving it a break with some amazing pleasure. I will be back! I can't believe it's been 5 years since my last review. If you still haven't tried Heart & Sole Massage, you're really missing out. Kristen is the best massage therapist I've ever had, hands down. When I go to see her, I know I will leave relaxed and comfortable. I've tried other spas in town that either have better availability with my schedule or are cheaper, but nothing compares; I'm always leaving them uncomfortable and full of regret. Being 22 weeks pregnant, I have all sorts of aches and pains, specifically in my lower back. I was able to make an appointment for a prenatal massage with Kristen for my birthday yesterday and I've been pain free ever since, which has been such a relief. I'm already looking forward to my next appointment. Unfortunately, Kristen is only available to established patients, but I know that she hand-picks her massage therapists so I'm sure they are all amazing. I want to preface this review by saying that I've had a number of massages over the last 12 years, and they have varied greatly in terms of overall quality and effectiveness. Today marks the 5th massage I have received from Sheila Paul (one a week for 5 weeks), and there really isn't a combination of words to properly describe how incredibly talented Sheila is. She is on a completely different level from anyone I have had work on me in the past. Every single time I leave a session with Sheila, I feel like I'm floating. It is a consistent feeling of relief that I don't think can be replicated in any way. When I first met with her, I mentioned that for quite some time now, my shoulders and elbows have been giving me a lot of trouble - this has been a consistent pain for me when exercising, or even working on simple, everyday tasks. Within two visits the pain had completely subsided, and not only that, but I feel more strength in those areas than I have in years. Also, she has the most consistent draping ever! :D Aside from the actual massages, she is just an incredible person. Some of the most thought provoking conversations of my life have taken place over the last 5 weeks, and I have Sheila to thank for that. I am very impressed with this business and back to being a loyal client. After my favorite massage therapist left, I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to find someone else who understood the problems I have in my neck and back from sitting at a computer all day. The owner, Kristen, talked to me in great deal about my problems and gave me an EXCELLENT massage for free after I was not happy with one that I received. She explained that it's her intention that everyone gets matched to the therapist who best meets their needs, and when that didn't happen for me she immediately wanted to correct it. If you have a terrible neck and back from staring at a computer all day, I highly recommend going to Kristen (but don't take all her appointments because I need some too). I've gotten two much-needed massages at Heart & Sole and can confidently say that I will be a return customer as long as I live in Austin. I sit at a computer all day and work in a stressful, deadline driven environment. I amass a lot of tension in my neck, shoulders and wrists, and truly wish I could afford a massage once a month at Heart & Sole. For now, I go every two months or so. My first massage in January with Kristen was great! She is clearly very knowledgeably and professional. She focused on my back, shoulders and neck and was in tune to the pressure used and time spent on problem areas. Kristen also provided some home follow-up care strategies and exercises after the massage. I'm not very diligent about doing them, so I found myself tensing up again within a month. Just this week, I revisited, this time scheduling an appointment with Ashley. She was also very in tune to my problem areas and was able to melt away a lot of tension in my back, shoulders, neck and wrists. Personally, I favored my massage with Ashley more than Kristen. Her massage technique just felt better? It's hard to pinpoint what I liked more about it, but I walked away feeling great. Most importantly, their rates are very reasonable, which is a big factor for me. The 60 minute massage is a good amount of time to relax, though I'd love to treat myself to a 90 minute massage next time. I hope they create some time of loyalty program for repeat customers, because that would definitely bring me back more often. I went here for my first professional massage ever. Booking was super easy on their website, and it had a lot of good information about the staff & their services. My appointment was with Kristen for a 60 minute massage. She was absolutely wonderful. The room & bed temp were perfect, and the massage was better than I could've expected! I live in the Mueller area and at first was hesitant because of the long commute - but the drive after work was SO WORTH IT. I've had several different masseuse's and each one is awesome. They're very attentive to areas that need work and even offer to give advice on how to keep knots out between sessions. Best of all, if you sign up for their emails, you'll receive $10 off specials at least once a month (on certain conditions, like "try out a new masseuse" or "book an appointment tomorrow"). When you get off Hwy 183, pay close attention to where you should turn or you can miss it. The location is pretty hidden. read more

So, like a lot of other people, I found this place through yelp. I own a moving company and do a lot of moving myself so I spend a lot of time lifting heavy furniture up and down stairs. So i basically radiate soreness. I was looking forward to the massage and told my family about it. They were able to get my younger sister and my mom in as well. One after the other. It was fantastic. Sometimes you don't realize how much you needed a massage until after you have a great one. My shoulders were super tight when I went in but I feel 100 times better now. When I first found Heart & Sole Massage on Yelp about a year ago, I could hardly believe the reviews. How could everyone consistently rate a massage company with 5 stars? I was a little skeptical but tried it out anyway. Now, I'm a regular with Kristen and have witnessed her company grow, and I know she deserves every good review that is written about her company. The new location (one building over) is more spacious and welcoming. She has added massage therapists to her staff. Her basic 1-hour massage is still only $55, and she has specials from time to time where you can get an even further discount. I gave my husband a gift certificate to see her during one of her buy-3-get-1-free specials, and he thought she was great (and he is a pretty shy guy). She is personable and professional, and just really, really good at what she does. I see coupons from time to time advertising massage services at other places, but I will not go anywhere else. KRISTEN ROCKS! This is one of the best massages I have had in my entire life. Kristen really took the time to listen to me before we got started and it made such a world of difference. Through out the massage I could tell she was listening to my body when she asked about pressure on some of my sore spots. She even did some stretching to really get some of my weird places to relax. I love this place! Kristen is super nice and Nathan is amazing! I've never seen a place with so many glowing reviews and I'm glad I can add another one. My shoulders always feel like boulders and I'm always asking my boyfriend for shoulder rubs. I normally get full body massages but I feel like my shoulders never get worked on enough so I scheduled a 30 minute therapeutic/deep tissue massage for just my shoulders. I'm so glad I did! My shoulders feel like jello or soft pillows or soft jello pillows. I sometimes feel like the massages I get are too light but Nathan gave a legitimate deep tissue massage. Kristen is amazing! I have had steadily worsening back pain in my lower back for a few years. Also knots in the middle of my back. A doctor recommended physical therapy but the place they suggested got horrible reviews on yelp so I was nervous. So I put off doing anything. The pain finally got pretty bad and my husband suggested looking into getting a massage. Yelp reviews rated Heart & Sole - and Kristen - very high. I went today. She is a miracle worker! We discussed what was going on, the kind of pain, how long it's been like this, etc. Then she worked out so many knots and applied just the right amount of pressure. I feel like a new person. It had gotten to the point where my lower back hurt when I coughed and that's gone. She showed me some exercises to do at home. I'm going back in a couple weeks so she can see how things are going. I've had many massages from many different people, both male and female. Before my visit to Heart & Sole Massage, I had one great experience, and it was a male massage therapist, and my very first massage. I did not expect the kind of experience I had today from Nathan. It's beyond words. How do I put it...? For the first time, the massage had REALLY firm pressure like I had always liked, except it was not painful at all. The pressure were on the right spots. Nathan manipulated the body so skillfully and effectively, that I have never felt so relaxed going to a massage. The story: I tried Heart & Sole Massage because of a special deal during October - normally I wouldn't drive to BFE (Northwest Austin is a trek for us South Austin folk) but am I glad I did. I didn't know what I was missing until I had a massage from Kristen. Instead of a standard massage, Kristen asked about the physical activities I do (lots of volleyball, Krav Maga, and Crossfit) and where I felt needed focus. Then, what I expected to be a typical massage turned into an hour of intense back and shoulder work - it was awesome! I left there feeling like a new man. First before I start this review, I have to admit that I was always a skeptic about getting massages. I have always bought gift certificates as presents for birthdays and holidays for other people. I just think its a luxury that its just a want, not a need. So obviously, as I am writing this review, I did get my first massage ever here at Heart & Sole. I travel about 5-6 days a week for work and am constantly either driving or on a plane. So on my stop here in Austin visiting family and friends, my boyfriend convinced me to get a massage with him. I had no expectations nor knew any massage etiquettes. Of course I leave on my jeans and bra like a newb, so she had to leave the room again for me. I joked with her about how there should be an instructional video about how much clothes to take off and making sure we know to get in "under" the covers. I didn't have to tell her anything about my trouble spots because I didn't know my "trouble" spots. I realized she spent a lot of time on my right shoulder and she told me why. From all the traveling, my shoulders were tense, especially on the right. I could feel she was working out a long overdue knot right under my shoulder blade. When I left and jumped in my truck, I could immediately feel my sitting posture was different: my shoulders weren't slumped and it wasn't sore from trying to hold it up. The prices here are also much better than the chain places around town. I decided that I want to make this a quarterly thing. The genuine service and professionalism here makes me want to visit only Heart & Sole for my aching back. I had been doing some research for several days on Yelp to find a great therapist. Kristen's location was near me and she had great reviews so I was really looking forward to treating myself. I am a massage therapist myself so it is really great when you find someone who is really good at what they do. Her room is nice and cozy and the table is really comfortable--heated and soft. She actually worked on the spots that I told her were bothering me(I've noticed sometimes that therapists will not do this) and she let me talk as much as I wanted. I typically don't do this---but I had a strange day. So she gave me the space to let go and relax. I will be back to see her and will be recommending her to my friends and family.
