Made an appointment in the week for Friday evening with JP. Thankfully this is walking distance so got there in plenty of time. The door maybe locked if they are all with clients. The entry is serene with white noise machines on the doors to keep what's behind them nice and relaxed. The lobby had several things to look at while waiting. Once JP finished the session before, the table linens were changed and I was brought in to review what needed attention. Since I was there specifically for my left shoulder, that was the focus. I did a 30 minutes session which went by wayyy too quick. JP did a great job of going slow to not cause any discomfort and asked how the pressure was along the way. Talk about relaxing! I'm intrigued to see how the area feels after a nights rest as I've been dealing with the issue for several months. Despite doing PT, there's was something not quite getting to the exact location of he tension. I could feel the areas I've been missing with trigger point in myself being addressed during the massage. Talk about a win! In 2024, I had a horrible injury to my levator scapulae where nothing but time could heal. This took weeks. I couldn't even turn my head to look at someone, I had to turn my whole body. All I could do was go on walks hunched over - taking this long of a break from the gym was horrible. Fast forward to February of 2025, I have been dealing with a lesser version of this injury after sleeping on it wrong (do NOT sleep on your stomach, FYI). I was recommended Form Function by a friend from work, so I decided to schedule a 90 minute session. I had Nathan, who has 21 years of experience. The first 30 minutes were spent on my levator, while the rest of the time was focused on my sciatic and the rest of the body. Nathan dug deep. A pain that hurts so good, a pain I knew I needed if I was to speed up the recovery process. Nathan was nice and very professional. He didn't talk much, but when he did it was insightful wisdom based off a comment I made. The next day (today) I decided to hit shoulders at the gym. This was foolish, but I don't always make the best decisions. I got through my workout without any injury, and feel completely fine when turning my head at any angle. I've been seeing Katie several months now for recurrent neck pain and she has been wonderful. I did 30 minute appointments at first, then went to an hour because it was so helpful to my overall wellness and improved state of mind. I've seen other massage therapists for the same problem, but I find Katie to be much more comprehensive in her treatment, that is, focusing not only on where my specific neck pain is, but working on other areas that may contribute to my pain such as my head and shoulder areas. Using heat and pressure, she locates the numerous kinks and knots in my upper torso and one by one helps them to settle down. I'm sure Katie can do it all, but her specialty is working with people who have intractable pain and stiffness in their neck and lower back. I have gotten to know her a little on a personal level. She has a huge heart and an innate kindness that again, I've not experienced with other therapists. I would describe her not just as a massage therapist but a care giver.
