Everyone is super sweet so the low rating isn't for their customer service. Things I don't like: They are very stingy with the lotion which is part "of their style / method" It's advertised as deep tissue but instead they do this annoying & almost burning like sensation where they just rub your skin. My massage therapist was very sweet so I don't want to mention her name because it was genuinely one of the worst massages I've ever had ): I wanted to like it but after spending $160 for 60 minutes of rubbing and know intentional or thought out muscle techniques, I was so upset I had just competed in jiu jitsu the weekend before and my neck was soooo sore so luckily she worked on that a bit but I think the style they teach their massage therapists in general is just not for me or anyone who likes a true deep tissue sport massage! I flew in to town on a Sunday before attending a week long conference downtown. My neck was SO tight and I wasn't excited about starting the week that way. Fortunately Austin Deep was open late on Sunday, was walking distance from my hotel, and had an appointment available! First of all, I wanna go into this with the preface that I've never gotten a massage done professionally before. That was definitely made apparent within the first 5 minutes of my appointment when I misinterpreted the directions from my therapist, and laid naked on top of the blanket instead of underneath. Luckily, I'm not a shy person. If I was, I would have been gone the second they walked back in and informed me. Took the biggest L. Fortunately my therapist, Matthew, seemed to have seen it happen before. - For a first experience, everything was perfect. The ambience, the friendliness of the staff, and the fluidity of the service all reflect a good service experience and show they know what they're doing! - The therapy rooms have plenty of space if you have bags or want to keep personal belongings with you (I always keep my items in sight) so the extra space was much appreciated and made it easier to get on/off the table. - The staff are warm and welcoming, and also were professional but friendly the entire time. They listened to my feedback and made suggestions accordingly, keeping inside my comfort zone. My therapist even helped me put my necklaces back on after the service when i was struggling. I really appreciated the extra effort to be helpful and create a positive atmosphere. It really made the difference. - The only thing I would suggest is if the staff is made aware of a first time procedure occurrence (inexperienced customers coming in not knowing what to expect) - have the therapist explain what they're doing to maintain trust and transparency. It's a very vulnerable situation and it would go the extra mile to make people feel safe, comfortable, and in control of their therapeutic experience. This massage was ok - it felt like 80% of the time was spent rubbing very little lotion on my skin and 20% pressure points. I definitely felt like I way overpaid for this given the lack of focus on my sore spots. I have had a bad back since a car accident over 5 years ago and often suffer from extreme back pain as a result. I've tried medical massages in hospitals, dry needling, TENS units, cupping, regular epsom salt baths, etc. If it exists, I've probably tried it. My back pain is chronic and I have desperately searched for a solution since 2018 with minimal results. But I'd never tried deep tissue massage before. This was my first experience with a deep tissue massage and after the first massage (honestly within the first few minutes of the massage!!), I was ready to sell my soul for a lifetime membership. It was such an incredible relief and I'd not felt that good in years. Genuinely brought tears to my eyes to just not feel in such pain, so I went ahead and booked my next appointment with the same massage therapist to be after I returned from a work trip in a few weeks. It was perfect timing because my back had started to get really bad again by the time I returned and my migraines had also begun again. I'd gone from 20+ migraines a month to not having any for a few weeks after the massage -- that's pretty much a miracle in my books! Unfortunately, my second massage here was an absolute nightmare. I have a very sensitive spot on my lower back that's linked with a very traumatic experience from years ago, and I made a point to bring it up before both appointments as I need immediately firm pressure in the area if someone is touching me there. It's a bit of a fight or flight response when someone grazes me there or uses light pressure, and my immediate response is to run away/get away from the touch. I'm fine with firm pressure, but anything with a light touch has me out the door before I've even thought about it. Although I had the same massage therapist for my second massage here, it was a completely different experience. She kept using incredibly light pressure in the area to where it felt like she was testing my boundaries(?) I felt incredibly violated and kept reminding her I needed only firm pressure in the area, but she kept just gently brushing over the area and would then ask me if I was okay when my legs were taking me off the massage table instinctively. Beyond feeling traumatized by her continuing to touch my lower back and disregard my requests, the massage itself was extremely painful because it felt like she was massaging my tailbone instead of actual muscle. While the first massage helped relieve my back pain and prevented migraines for weeks, the second massage left me in pain for days (where it was a bit sensitive to even sit with pressure on my tailbone/lower spine) and I ended up getting worse and more frequent migraines than before. Again, it was the same massage therapist who did both massages and I genuinely do not know why there was such a stark difference in the quality of care, the feel of the massage, or the respect of my boundaries. I literally cried about it later and ended up calling them to explain my experience, cancel all future appointments, and let them know how violated I felt during my second appointment. They never contacted me back to offer any type of explanation or apology for my experience, which I find deeply upsetting beyond the poor service itself. I've since gone to a different massage place, DEEP Relief, every 2-3 weeks and have had nothing short of amazing experiences there. The massages are consistently fantastic and the massage therapists are so caring and wonderful about respecting my boundaries. And the massages are so wonderfully deep that I just feel so much better on a regular basis. Based on my experience at Austin Deep in the downtown location, I will say that it's more "luxe" with them providing a little epsom salt bag after every massage, having little deodorant and makeup removing wipe ls to use before/after your appointment, and a very upscale interior that is calming and aesthetically beautiful, but I does not make up for the poor experience I had here. You also have to pay for parking if you drive to Austin Deep, and DEEP relief has free parking. Altogether, I cannot recommend Austin Deep as a result of the second massage and lack of accountability or communication after the fact, which is so unfortunate because I truly thought the first massage was amazing. If you're looking for an amazing deep tissue massage with massage therapists who will listen to your needs and requests, you won't find it here. read more

I've heard wonderful things about this place and was thrilled when I got a complimentary 60 minute massage from my work! The space itself is so peaceful! I could feel some tension leave the moment I walked through the door, it was such a change from the noise of downtown. The staff is very friendly. My masseuse, Morgan, was very nice and attentive to the areas to focus on. This was my first deep tissue massage and she was very accommodating to my request for lighter pressure. She let me know everything I should be feeling afterwards. I know it's a common phrase for folks to say they "feel brand new" after a massage but I genuinely felt brand new. I lost tension in places I didn't know I held it. I was physically relaxed the whole day (until the post-massage soreness set in lol!) I'm looking forward to my next massage already! read more

Piper did a fantastic job working out some serious kinks and knots in my lower back, shoulders and right bicep. I felt fully renewed and walking upright after I left. I have never had a massage with that facia technique before and it took a little getting used to - at times the friction was uncomfortable, but not to the point of being objectionable, and she also checked in with me frequently on the level of pressure to make sure I didn't want it increased or decreased. Same with the focused pressure she applied after warming things up with friction - marginally painful, but not in a bad way - kind of like when you stretch a really tight muscle and it hurts a bit to stretch but then loosens up. I haven't spent that much on a 90 minute massage before, but I think it was worth it. Will definitely return. read more

Hallelujah! I've gotten massages at many places, and every time I tell them I want deep pressure but they've never delivered. With a name like AustinDEEP I hoped this place would be different, and I was right! This massage went beyond being relaxing, it was truly restorative. While parking right off Congress was not ideal, I visited during the day so it wasn't too hard to find a metered spot. When I walked into the building, I was greeted by a lovely team at the front who checked me in and offered me some water while I waited for the massage therapist. Connor quickly came over to introduce himself and walk me to the room. He took the time to go over the areas I wanted to focus on and discuss any problem areas. The room was relaxing, with some chill music playing (not the typical wind chimes I hate), and they left some earplugs, makeup remover wipes, deodorizing wipes, and a hair tie in case I needed it. While I only booked a 30-minute session, Connor worked quickly to cover my entire back, neck, and arms within that time period. The pressure was very deep, to the point that it was painful at times, but in a great way. He even worked on some pressure points. He used only the necessary amount of massage oil, so I didn't leave feeling greasy, and he even made conversation since I mentioned I hate the overly-relaxing silent atmosphere of most massage spots. After getting dressed, Connor greeted me at the front and gave me some epsom salt to take a bath to reduce soreness. Overall, it was a fantastic experience and I will definitely be back! read more

I get massages pretty much everywhere, I go and occasionally I get one that is so delightful that I can't wait to go back! The only problem with this location is that it's not in New York, so I'm going to have to wait a while to see it again. The ambience in the place is super relaxed. Because it was SXSW, they had live spa music playing, which was pretty cool, and overall just good vibes. The massage was an exceptionally good deep tissue massage and relieved pain in my shoulders that I had been carrying for a few weeks. I highly recommend!! All the other Yelp reviewers convinced me to give Austin Deep a try, and I'm SO glad I did. I love the pre-appointment survey where they ask you all the standard first time client info (illnesses? Medications? Are you pregnant? Etc) as well as standard visit questions (areas to focus on? Areas to avoid? How much pressure?) and a great one I've never been asked before (do I prefer to talk or zone out?) It's such a time saver bc you fill it out the day before and can get right to the massage when you arrive. I chose zone out and my therapist, Kathleen, was amazing. She only checked to make sure the pressure was ok once and I was happy to follow her lead. I chose medium pressure and it was perfect for me. She explained she goes deeper once my muscles relax so it was never too painful. Ambience is dark and relaxing and they give you Epsom salt after to recover. I'll definitely be back! I repeatedly stated I needed as much pressure as possible, that I had deep knots, and that the therapist needed to go deeper. She unfortunately couldn't give as deep a massage as I needed, and said so. She also stated that she would not be working on my left shoulder/back anymore, even though I informed her before treatment even began that that was the entire focus of the deep tissue massage. I went to AustinDeep a few days ago and had a very disappointing experience - Temperature was way to low - I had goosebumps the entire time - Floor fan was blasting with a rotating setting which was distracting, annoying and unpleasant - Sound proofing is poor - I heard conversations in the other room and lobby throughout the massage - Massage technique is unpleasant and it involves more of an aggressive skin rub down than a massage. The therapist gave me heads up on the "unique" technique they use but frankly I didn't expect a full body skin rub down which was not pleasant or relaxing at all. I felt more stressed during and after the massage than before the massage I give it two stars (as opposed to no stars) because the masseuse was very sweet and scheduling was easy, front desk staff was nice, bathrooms were nice and clean. read more

I just had the best massage of my life at Austin Deep. Jason and his magic hands found tight spots I didn't even know existed. The pressure was just right - gentle enough after not having had a proper massage since 2020 and firm enough that he worked out all the little knots and bits that were causing me pain. Zacil literally rocked my world!!! Was able to walk normally after hurting my back yesterday thanks to her. It definitely wasn't a cookie cutter massage and was hyper focused. Just go! Plus made the appointment same day and within an hour. Only downside was I was so confused at exact location yet believe me I'll never forget where it's at now. Have not been to the Austin Deep downtown location since COVID started. Previously I went to their main location on Lake Austin Blvd. but had been to the new downtown location a few times. All of my massages have been great but my massage today was out of this world. The massage therapist name was Shaylyn and if there were more stars I would have given them to her. Let me warn the faint of heart and anyone that enjoys being petted during a massage, this is not the place and for sure, Shaylyn is not a therapist you would request. The pressure is for a deep tissue massage. Typically when you flinch during a deep tissue massage, the therapist will back off a little but not Shaylyn. Just tough it out. Afterwards drink plenty of water and be sure to soak in the Epsom salt they provide upon leaving. read more
