As an honest review, I can't give more than two stars for the quality of food versus the price listed on the menu. The service was okay, but mainly a simple walk up and order method. The interior was a bit sparse and felt a bit empty. The food I got was the bulgogi rice plate and it was not anything impressive. I wouldn't get this plate at all when I can get a stacked plate of food for the same price and better quality elsewhere. Great spot if you are craving Korean food! It is a small restaurant inside a university plaza that offers some indoor and outdoor seating. They have a decent menu to offer from kimbap, tteokbokki, cold noodles, and bibambap. Prices are okay. Their kimchi fried rice is really good, but this time I got to try their soondobu. To me, the portion for the soup is big and it comes with rice and pickled radish. However, if you are expecting side dishes like the tofu house then they don't offer it. I did get some dumplings and a korean drink to go with it and it went well together. Service was okay. They have a machine for self-ordering and self serve on utensils so not much interaction with the staff. But when I did speak with them, they were nice. I stopped by this spot for the first time with some coworkers for a late night snack and we loved it SO much!! All of the food was really really delicious and flavorful!! I got the bulgogi fries and it was the perfect amount of cheese and meat. AND the slight sweetness of the bulgogi mixed with the fries and cheese offered a flavor I'd never really had before -- but one will definitely be going back for. There was a decent amount of room to sit inside and hang out as well, giving it a nice cozy vibe! The service was also really fast! I believe there were about 2-3 orders ahead of us and our food still came out in less than five minutes -- very efficient! It's been awhile since I've tried their usual like the pork or chicken katsu curry which I think was good but it's been years. Somewhat recently though, I decided to try their new addition of jjajangmyeon black bean noodles to their menu. I was quite disappointed since it tasted like those Ottogi microwavable yellow box packet sauces you'd get from the korean market. It was around $15 for a small portion too. Came here with my little amy, we got the beef bulgogi fried rice and the Naengmyun (Cold). I really enjoyed the naengmyun since it was really refreshing, I just wish there was maybe another egg because it can get kind of boring. Maybe some protein or something else can go with it, but that is just my opinion. The Bulgogi fried rice was pretty flavorful, similar to the naengmyun there needs to be more beef. The ratio from beef to rice was off and you didn't really get a bite of beef with every piece of rice. presentation was good though and so was service, there was a new staff worker working, who was very kind and respectful. We were at UCR for a couple of days and stopped by here to grab some lunch. Everything was great for a quick lunch. You order on a screen, and they present you with the food when it's ready, so very minimal human interaction. The katsu curry and the kimchi fried rice were delicious. Don't overlook this small eatery at the very end of business in the back of University village. Initially we came to the village to eat something else BUT due to that business opening up at 11:30 and this one opening up at 11 we ended up here- no regrets. Now I'm a newbie to Asian cuisine but luckily I was with two friends that are quite the professionals. I ordered the bulgogi fries (safe option for me) while they ordered the Kayak curry and the Sundubu. Bulgogi fries - 5 outta 5! The meat is thin stripped and sweet. No grisel or burnt pieces. The fries are crisp and the long skinny kind so they get a ton of toppings covering them. The melted cheese did not taste like nacho cheese , it was subtly and complemented the meat. 100% kids and adults will love this. Katsu curry - large portion of rice and cabbage to compliment the curry. The chicken was on the smaller side but crispy on the outside and moist on inside. There was no potatoes, peas, or carrots in the dish we got - maybe that was an option in the touch screen ordering device they had? It shows in other people's pictures.....anyways ours did not have it and that made for some sad curry. Flavor was good though and we used some fries to dip in it. Shundubu - We ordered this spicy and oooohhgg man it sure was. The dumplings were delicious and the tofu can in clumps that reminded me of scrambled eggs rather than traditionally square tofu - but it worked because it tasted like it really soaked in the broth/flavor. There were some chopped white onions inside the broth and green onions on the top. Not much interaction with employees, not even a hello when you walk in. They have a computer screen you order from, and then after the food is made the employee will call your number for pick up. I would say I am a regular of this spot where I average 3 times a month. The food isn't always completely accurate in flavors where I would probably equate this more to fast food Korean food. However, I do like the convenience of it being next to UCR and the price for what you get. It is surprisingly filling and definitely fills the craving of late night Asian (as being one of the few places open until 10pm). My go-tos are tofu stew and bibimbap as they taste pretty close to what I expect it to taste like. I also like that tofu stew and bibimbap came with egg even when eggs were really expensive due to a shortage without increasing the cost. Manna Grill is conveniently located in University Village, catering primarily to UCR students, and is just a short walk from campus. I visited around 11am, right after they opened, and was the first guest since it's summer and the student crowd is sparse. The interior is welcoming and freshly redecorated, with painted walls and framed artwork featuring Korean dishes throughout the space. Ordering is done at the counter. I tried the spicy squid plate (regular: $14.99), which came with rice and salad. The dish was flavorful, with perfectly stir-fried squid, onions, julienne carrots, cabbage, and green onions, all seasoned with Doenjang. It was a bit oily but not overly sweet, which I appreciated. I also ordered the chicken Katsu (regular: $14.99), which also came with rice and salad. The chicken was thin, soft, and had a nice crispy breading. However, the curry sauce was overly sweet and lacked the tanginess I was expecting. The same sauce was used for the shredded cabbage salad, which didn't work for me either. The water from the vending machine was cold but had a chlorine taste. It would be great if they could offer filtered water, maybe with a refreshing touch of cucumber or citrus. Overall, prices are on the medium to higher side, especially for a student-heavy area. Some variety in the sides beyond just rice and salad would be a nice improvement. I've been coming here for years now. I sadly moved fork riverside but each time I'm in the area and craving Korean food. I come here. I love that there is plenty of indoor and outside seating!! The food was ready quick, and as I was receiving the order, the employees were very kind and helpful. Ya'member how the secret ingredient to the best food was LOVE? They put LOVE into the food here. That's all you need to know, but read on if you want. My wife and I have been coming here once or twice a year since the Pandemic. And even back then they ran the place like epic professionals. I still remember the dude who took our order those years ago, because he was reading an incredible-looking copy of Sun Tzu's "The Art of War." Frankly, when I see food workers sharpening their minds on texts like that, it says a lot of very robustly positive things about the environment in which the food is made; a disciplined one. We've been getting chicken and pork katsu curry here for a while. But one time recently we accidentally just ordered a chicken katsu plate. With... that sauce. That delicious, Heavenly sauce from on high. And they know exactly how to coat it JUST RIGHT, to perfectly compliment the crunchiness of the batter. The balance of those textures, of both sweetness and acidity in the sauce is transcendental. The salad is the most beautiful way I've ever consumed cabbage. It's shredded into Angel Hair, and given dressing in layers, so that you always have just the right amount to maintain the crunch of vegetables to cleanse the oils from the katsu off your palate. I usually skip on salads. I eat all of this one though. And the rice. If you don't have brilliant rice then your ground floor is shaky. And here? It's wonderful. I like to eat with chopsticks, and this is very chopstick-friendly rice that sticks and clumps up nicely. Exactly the way I like it. Never tastes bland, but prepared and cooked perfectly to simply TASTE LIKE RICE. So many places cannot accomplish this simple task. Without proper rice, the rest of the meal would be meaningless. But every single last grain has been made perfectly for years on end now. And most recently we tried a tteokbokki cup. We'd never had one before at all. We wanted to try some new Korean foods, and figured this place is the best Korean joint in town so why not try it here? And OH... what wonderous delights of spice! Of CREAMINESS and long, O' so long pulls of stringy mozz' clinging so desperately to those rice and fish cakes... dripping with a thick, rich and sumptuous sauce... to die for when you dump some on your rice. Took my wife to celebrate finishing her finals. I needed a place to serve us a GOOD meal. Not just to fill our stomachs, but to satisfy our hearts and souls as well, and to soothe her weary mind. The LOVE with which all food is made here has constantly satisfied both me and my wife's hearts, bodies, minds and souls. Another friend had the the curry katsu plate and noted that the curry tasted a bit off, but liked the taste of the katsu (well seasoned). Bibimbap was good for the size but besides the gochujang, there is little flavor. Gimbap was loaded and had a good taste to it -- bulgogi was not too over seasoned and a slight bit sweet. Had a good crunch too from the radish. No service as it is one of those restaurants where you order and get your food to a table. Ambiance is interesting as they are playing K-Pop MV on the TV with the occasionally Christmas special song.
