We've gone to the Norwalk location and seeing that we needed a somewhat later night restaurant for food to snack on (not to get super full off of), this was our choice! They also blast K-pop here as expected. We had a group or around maybe 6 or so people? But we were seated relatively quickly and the food came out at a decent time. Service was friendly and checked up on us a couple times through the night to refill our waters. For our dinner we got and shared some: corn cheese, fried appetizer sampler (onion rings, spam fries, and mozzarella sticks), and some flavored fried wings. People at the table couldn't really handle spicy so the flavors that we got were soy garlic and lemon pepper. Pretty standard but are solid go to's. As with all Korean fried chicken places, the breading and skin are extra crispy and steeped in sauce. Meat was moist and didn't have too much of a chickeny taste if that makes sense. Can't really mess up corn cheese, so that was a solid pick too. The fried appetizers were a bit dry and quite salty, but I guess it's fine if you were downing alcohol like other people at the table were. We wanted chicken so we sat in the front room. They have a few small tables in a small area. They are pretty close in vacinity. If you like your space. I dont recommend sitting on the chicken side. The restaurant itself has a cozy, pub-like vibe, but we were surprised to learn that it's connected to other restaurants in the same building, each with different menus and ambiance. We came on a Friday evening as a party of three and asked to sit inside, not realizing we were actually in the sushi section--but our server kindly accommodated us. We started with the Tteokbokki, which had a nice kick, and followed with two flavors of wings (soy garlic and level 2 house sauce) plus the spicy pork skillet. While the portions were generous, all the main dishes were much sweeter than expected--sweeter than any Korean food I've had before. The standout was the fries, which were crisp and well-seasoned. The interior is a bit cute and and comfortable with warm mood lighting and had not a lot of seating so definitely would get packed on a Friday night. One of my worst dining out experience in Riverside. The food was disgusting and service was completely inattentive. Let's start with the food. All the food is dipped in sugar syrup and is clawingly sweet. The sauce is so thick it's like caramel sauce. I didn't expect to have dessert in my chicken or pork. I asked the server for some hot sauce to make the food somewhat palatable and this supposedly spicy sauce was another sugar syrup. The service was also very inattentive. I asked for the sauce mid way through the meal and the server provided the extra sauce when I had finished my meal while charging extra for the sauce. We also ordered the tteokbokki at a mild spice level. The chicken was nice and crispy and the fries were excellent. The beer selection could be better though. The tteokbokki was nice and chewy (some places make it too hard) but even the mild was too much for me. I'm weak with spicy. Out of the ashes of a Carrow's diner has risen a pocha. Pocha, in this case, is a Korean version of a pub. A pub is a place where drinking is a priority, but food is also important. Also, for the Mexicans out there, do not read "pocha" to mean someone who lost their sauce from living in America too long. Chimak is the name. About a quarter of the dining room is devoted Chimak, the remainder of the space is a sushi restaurant. They are presented entirely different, however, you may order from both menus. You can also move freely between both dining rooms. The Chimak space is darker with the lights slightly dimmer than those over in sushi land. It is made darker still from faux wood paneling and black chalk boards. Luminescence in the room comes from the large TV screens that show K-Pop videos. What else would they show? They serve a decent tteokbokki. The sauce isn't overly sweet like that of the Seoul based chain Halgatteok. It also isn't magma hot like those you find at the more sinister late night shops in Korea. They serve gyoza and not mandu. I suppose they decided to cross purpose their dumplings. Why serve two different, albeit very similar dumplings, from the same kitchen? It's mostly a Japanese fusion place, just stick to the gyoza, is the reasoning. The gyoza skins were from the store, but I'm fairly certain the pork filling was done in house. The wings are good. Nicely crisped even after being thoroughly sauced. They make you wish there was more of a focus on fried chicken here. The kimchi bokkeum bap is fine, not spectacular. They also have whimsical bar snacks like spam fries and cheese corn. Nothing here is spectacular, but it is something that doesn't exist in the IE. Sure we have our share of dubu houses. And there are Korean fried chicken places here and there: the worst among them is the chain bb.q Chicken. But this is our Pocha. Maybe if we treat it nice, other interesting places will come to the IE - Riverside, in particular, has a drastic lack of interesting places to eat. So, hat's off to Chimak. read more

I went at night one of those times and we ordered the 20 piece chicken wings with 10 original and 10 soy garlic. I love how the original had a bit of spice in it and the crunch was phenomenal. I also appreciate that it didn't need sauce to be good as the chicken wing itself had been seasoned/ marinated. We also ordered the corn cheese which was sweet and paired nicely with the spicy Ddukbokki. The other time I went, it was right when they had opened and I also got the 20 piece with original and soy garlic. I just love the crispiness of the chicken here and the consistency is great! We got the typical spicy soy garlic sauced 10 piece for 17.99. It had some heat and I could feel the fire.
