Seriously after driving for like a whole day to get to the Des Moines area some Chinese food sounds insanely scrumptious and oh how it was so hitting the hunger spot! At this point I was soo tried I barely remember ordering anything but what I do remember was we got a combo dinner that came with what I want to say was a peanut chicken that was super yummy as well as some orange chicken and fried rice that we got to pick to be added to the plate along with an egg roll, soup, and some yummy tea. They also offered a check-in offer that will save you a good amount of money if you plan on dinning with a friend so definitely consider that when coming here! The food was delicious and they were quick to bring it to us overall this is a great little spot a bit hidden but awesome all around and I'm sure it won't be long before my brother comes back here as he lives close by me who knows if I'll make it back but then again who knows where I'll end up next! read more

We found this place after looking for something reasonably close to the airport, as it happened this was the last official vacation meal before heading home. After experiencing a vast array of cuisines on our trip up the coast from SF Chinese food was something we had not tried in the week since our adventure began. Arriving here a little after noon we found the parking lot mostly empty and to be honest the very simple exterior of the business raised a few flags for me, but it's difficult to go against a four star rating after so many have reviewed this business, however Chinese Food is as subjective as bbq so I preceded with caution and tried to keep an open mind and let the story develop. We were immediately greeted after entering the restaurant by a gentleman who ended up being our server, just from the way he orchestrated things I assumed he (John) was the owner after he seated us on the right side in the back of the restaurant, in my opinion this was the best seat in the main dining area. The menu is pretty simple and the prices are very reasonable, we decided to start with an order of pork egg rolls which is 3 pcs served halved with two sauces they were very good crispy on the outside with a very nice mix of veggies and ground pork on the, inside. We also each started with a cup of hot and sour soup, this was pretty special I'm usually a wonton soup guy but felt like something with a little kick, although I would of liked it a little more spiced up the flavors were delicious and the textures were on point. The entrees were just as good, we ordered general chicken with a heat level of X5, honestly it wasn't that hot on a sliding scale I could doubled the heat and still would of wanted it more so don't be afraid to request it hot otherwise I feel it could be quite bland judging from the combo plate of broccoli and beef and sweet and sour chicken we also ordered. Our lunch time dining experience here was very pleasant, the service was very attentive and all the food was really good, I'd definitely would be a regular here if I lived in the area. The is one of my all time favorite Chinese restaurants! The thing that really makes it stand out to me is the pan fried pork dumplings! They are to die for! So tasty! The service here is also really good. The family that owns it is incredibly nice. The honey walnut prawns are also fantastic. The shrimp are cooked just right! Went to Mandarin Kitchen on Thursday, May 9, at 3:15pm and it was closed, when it was supposed to be open. There was no note on the front door explaining why it was closed. Also, no employee cars in the parking lot. Not a dependable restaurant. I would suggest customers call before just going there based on the supposed hours of operation. read more

Maybe the best orange chicken Ive ever had. Im eating right now as left overs and im still blown away by how fresh the orange flavor on it is. Its breading is crispy and its probably even better if you sit in at the restaurant. I also recommend their 5 flavor beef, probably my favorite of theirs. well until I had their orange chicken. This place is fantastic! I've been looking for a good northwest Chinese restaurant for a while now, and Mandarin Kitchen is basically exactly the kind of food I've been craving. First off, they make a killer almond fried chicken. The chicken is tender and juicy, the breading is crisp, and the almond brown gravy is smooth and savory. Their BBQ pork is moist and delicious as well, not dried out or tough. The hot and sour soup had a very good consistency and flavor - neither too thick nor too thin. Even their hot tea was pretty much perfect. The service was top notch - our drinks were never empty and everything we ordered came out very quickly and was freshly prepared, still steaming even. At the end of the meal they boxed our leftovers for us and even offered to pack in some extra rice for later. We were looking for some food on our way home from Seatac, and this place was only about a 10 minute drive from the airport. new owners a week ago food took forever to get food over charged. They replaced and tried and true menu options. replaced with sushi that is over priced. Ill stick with any other place for sushi not a Chinese restaurant who thought that was a smart idea yikes. Food no flavor no seasoning unless grease is seasoning. Changed hot and sour soup that did have any flavor sloppy looked and tasted like i would spit out a luggi. I feel bad as the previous owners ran that place 20 years consistently good, and immense flavor. The place was packed when they ran it food came quickly and delicious. We had food to go from this place yesterday. This has to have been some of the worst "Chinese food" I have ever eaten. The General Tso chicken from the Safeway deli is better than the stuff we got from here. It was mush with no spice whatsoever. The chicken for the Sweet and Sour chicken was super dry, what there was of it. We got several pieces that were nothing but fried batter. The string beans were good, but not good enough to make me buy food here again. PS. Even though it doesn't appear on their website, this is basically a cash only place. They charge 3% if you use a credit or debit card. I think that's very unfair if you don't know ahead of time so you bring enough cash. read more

Decided to leave after the bad attitude she gave us for having a young child with us. They don't deserve your money. We should've been warned by the Health Department's 'Okay' rating on the door. We were looking for some Orange Chicken not at a Panda Express, and came across this place. The ratings looked ok, so we went. Not sure why the ratings were so good, because it tasted like we might as well have eaten at a Panda Express. Everything was super fried and nothing special. Someone else on Yelp posted pics of some delicious looking pan fried dumplings, but I swear they did not come from this place. Our family ordered a bunch of different soups (hot and sour and wonton), appetizer, and entrees (beef fried rice, pork chow mein, orange chicken, sweet and sour pork, honey walnut prawns, and imperial deluxe... which was like beef and broccoli with scallops), and the best thing was the Triple Duke. Our family loves eating here. The staff are always so warm and friendly and considerate. The food is delicious and comes out fast. In particular I appreciate how their deep fried items are always super crispy - getting that kind of light crunch on a deep fry is an art!
