If we hadn't been exhausted from walking, I don't think we ever would have tried this place and we would have missed out immensely. My only regret is that we ate here on our very last night in Rome or we would've have eaten here multiple times.
First impressions - We walked into a small restaurant where a woman was making homemade pasta noodles and some kind of spinach ravioli thing at the window. She worked so hard. I had no idea how much work went into making pasta homemade. It makes you really appreciate it.
We didn't know what to order and were sick of Carbonara & Pizza from other restaurants, so we opted for spaghetti & meatballs, a vegetable soup and misc bruschetta. Personally, the bruschetta was kind of ordinary, but I would have walked miles for the spaghetti/meatballs and soup. I eat a lot of soup and it's obvious that they put a lot of effort into their veggie broth. Yes, I know that may sound silly because most of us are used to a clear broth with some veggies thrown in. Not here. It's thicker and obviously slow cooked for many hours. The homemade pasta was delicious and made us realize that this is not what we'd gotten at the other restaurants. These were fresh and cooked perfectly. The meatballs - AMAZING. I don't care if you aren't a fan of meatballs, please get some to try between the table if nothing else. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT. The bill was average. I think the main was around 10 euros. The average around Navona seems to be 9 - 14 euros, so it was fair. I'd suggest picking a different appetizer and the house wine wasn't my favorite.
Normally with any complaints (wine/app) I'd lower my rating by a star, but I just can't because the other food was so good. It was by far the best that we experienced after 10 - 15 meals for that price point. It's not fine dining by any means, but it's very yummy. Did I mentioned the meatballs?! Get the darn meatballs! read more
