This place is so good, I ate here twice! I made reservations for a Thursday evening and was welcomed by the staff immediately and shown to my table. They were so kind and helpful. I decided to start with the fried artichoke and prosciutto and melon. Both were absolutely delicious! For my entree, I went with the Carbonara, and Italian classic, topped with fresh truffles and it was so good. I ate every last bite! My friend got the Cacio E Pepe - a classic Roman pasta dish - that they serve in a wheel of pecorino Romano cheese. It's not only Instagram-worthy but it's delicious too! We also ordered a bottle of wine, which was reasonably priced, and complimented the meal perfectly. I couldn't skip dessert either so we tried both the Lemon Delight - sponge cake with lemon custard - and the Ricotta and Pear Cake. Both were incredible! Our first meal in Rome was at Taverna Urbana. We came here on a hungry detour on our way to the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore nearby. No "coperto" or cover charge here. The front of the house staff is friendly and spoke English but there was one back of house chef that was really grumpy and in our way when he was smoking at the entrance... ... maybe that should have been the warning sign but their menu looked really promising compared to the nearby restaurants. Sigh. I was hangry and my judgement wasn't clear. For our drinks, my boyfriend had a Coke (4€) and I had a Calice Vino (7€) which was a glass of their house white wine. For our meal, my boyfriend had their Tonnarelli Cacio E Pepe (14€), I had the Spaghetti Alla Carbonara (14€), and we shared the Polpette Al Pomodoro Con Patate Al Forno (14€). Both of our pasta dishes are one of the 4 must-haves pasta while visiting Rome, so we wanted to make sure we started off our Rome adventures strong. Both have the pecorino cheese and black pepper base. Mhmm... neither of us were impressed with the pasta. My boyfriend said mine was better... but the issue I had with my pasta is the consistency of scrambled eggs... meaning the egg was not properly incorporated cause I have had many carbonaras in my life and the sauce should be smooth and silky. As for the polpette al pomodoro con patate al forno, the meatballs were soft and tender in texture but I wasn't a fan of the taste of the meatball or the sauce. The allegedly roasted potatoes were soggy, more like steamed potatoes than roasted potatoes. Also I just want to note that when I was getting up to go to the restroom there was broken glass on the floor around the other tables. Safety risk! These carbs and calories are full of regret because I didn't enjoy them. I can't believe the worst carbonara I had in my life was in Italy... ... but when I went to the restroom I saw that the chefs here weren't Italian. Super not recommended. read more

YUM! We stumbled upon Taverna Urbana as we were lugging our luggage down Via Urbana. The restaurant had a cute outdoor area as well as fans that blew mist which on a hot Italian day was a necessity. In addition to seating us quickly the restaurant voluntarily stored our luggage without us asking. It was a super nice gesture. Our waiter was incredibly nice and spoke a million languages which was amazing. All of these things are not even the best part of our experience. We ordered the raviolo which was so amazing that we ended up going in on a second plate. Highly recommend if you find yourself in this part of Rome! read more

Wonderful restaurant in Rome- we stopped here for lunch while on our walk back to the Roma Termini. We sat at a table outside and ordered the veal saltimbocca (because you MUST in Roma) and I had a seafood pasta. Both meals were incredible and exactly what we needed after roaming around Rome with all the busy crowds. The seafood pasta had all sorts of goodies hidden in the pasta, not just clams and mussels- squid, several pieces of white dish etc. it was fabulous. We came across this place while shopping in the hip Monti neighborhood we are staying in during our trip to Rome. This restaurant is old school Roma at its finest. It is authentic and has been around for close to 80 years for a reason. While eating here, there were a mixture of tourists and locals who were seated next to us. They have seating right along the street with twinkly lights...perfect for a warm summer night. Everything we ordered was fresh and delicious. We rented an airbnb in Monti and experimented several local places in Via Urbana during our staying during a family trip. The food made everybody happy from adults to kids! I picked the place thanks forna recommendation of a friend for the fish but we ended up eating meat. Fish looked fresh and delicious thous. I called ahead of time and the owner was very upfront regarding being out of several dishes as they were going to close the following day for vacation. Wonderful little restaurant near our hotel in Monti. We started with a couple appetizers, bursts and grilled seasonal vegetables. Both had wonderful flavor. We then each had a fish plate, again excellent flavors and cooked perfectly. Would definitely recommend. Seriously ah-mazing!!! We stumbled upon this restaurant when we were strolling the Monti neighborhood. The seafood spaghetti is the best pasta I've had!!! We also ordered fish, and the fillets are huge and taste great. In the beginning they gave us complimentary bruschetta which is soo good, it'll put any other bruschetta you've ever had to shame. This place was near the hotel so I tried it out. Outside seating is the way to go here especially in the evenings. The server was very prompt and accommodating the the language barrier. After spending the week in Rome I was looking for a change from the everyday pasta. The waiter recommended the seafood plate for two which we ended up ordering. They brought is two large plates with identical items on each plate. I took photos and attached them to the review to show what al was served. One bit of advice is to be careful when eating the fish since it is fresh and there are bones so try to take your time eating. The beer selection was small but the wine list was pretty ample. Overall, we ended up getting full at a good bargain of under 50€ for two persons. I would visit this place again when in Rome. Enjoy! read more

This review is not about the food or drinks or ambience because we never even had the chance to get to it. It is for the incredibly rude waiter (south east Asian from the looks) who rudely gestured and shooed us away when we requested a table for two. We were two south East Asians as well. I was confused by his angry demeanor and thought maybe it was closing time but he was just serving guests (Non asian) who walked in seconds before us and there were several empty tables as well. I asked again and he just waved us of and told us to get lost. I have never been treated like that anywhere else in my life. I don't know why he reacted that way but I was so disgusted to be treated like that. Absolutely ridiculous in this day and age. I guess we just don't have the right look for this restaurant? This is an average joint with average food and below average service. Granted travelers from the US won't get the same level of service in Europe as they do back home, but this place was worse than most of the ones I had been to in Rome. About the service- they had just one waiter servicing the entire restaurant, the sort of rude waiter was constantly running back and forth. We were a party of 3 and he refused to seat us at a table for 4 saying there was a reservation and squeezed us on a table for 2, inconveniencing the 2 other couples next to us. The entire time we were there (close to 1.5 hours) no one came for the table for 4. Like another commenter said, I don't know if this had to do with the fact that the waiter was south East Asian and so were we. Now about the food- we ordered the grilled grouper , seafood pasta and veal Milanese. The seafood pasta and the grouper were ok. The veal was so over cooked that it tasted cardboard like. The French lady at the table next to ours had also returned her beef filet saying it wasn't beef, turns out they had overlooked her meat as well and she returned it and then got a mussel dish. So if u r going here stick to seafood!! About the bill- we were charged €2 for 'hard as rock bread' that we never ordered but were given ( wasn't charged for bread at any other restaurant in Italy) and we were also charged €6.50 as service charge ( again which we were not charged any where in Rome). We had seen a €1 or 2 per person charge in Florence & salerno but not in Rome and the charge was always for 2 adults not my 4 year old. So if u r going return the bread, but personally I would recommend finding another restaurant- so many within a stone's throw of this one !! read more

My experience here was so excellent that I came twice during my 4-day stay in Rome. It is an unassuming little place set apart from the other restaurants that line Via Urbana. Most of the time they do not open until 730pm. The staff was lovely but not too overbearing as many restauranteurs can be in Rome proper, and they were patient and accommodating with my non-dairy restriction (hard to find in Italy!). The food was surprisingly flavorful, delicious and memorable. I cannot recommend this place more highly. read more

Have now eaten here three times, and have probably tried 2/3rds of the menu! Absolutely fantastic, authentic Italian fare. Seafood, especially the whole baked fish with potatoes, is the specialty, but the pasta and of course the artichokes are sublime also. Ask them what they have that day and get it. Our experience overall was mediocre. The service was rude and the dishes too salty. One pasta dish came out undercooked- there was white hard crunch inside. When we pointed this out to the server he told us that this was the normal Italian way and got upset. However, after traveling in Italy for 3 weeks we know this isn't true. He took it back to get cooked more and when he brought it back it was cooked. But, we won't be going back. read more
