So we are Yelp people, we like to look at reviews even so this place only a few or so it's super delicious and fresh. We got the prosciutto and mozzarella, 2 tomatoe bruschetta, octopus and lasagna to start and it was great, then we got the carbonara and fresh house made ravioli (slightly spicy) but very fresh. My daughter could not stop saying how fresh and different the food taste from the US. This is a great place to eat! read more

Pronounced Ka-la-bash When you're done exploring the Sistine Chapel, I highly recommend this place for dinner, since it's situated in the city center, there are fewer tourists and you can eat and peacefully. (about a block from hotel Olympic). Inside and outside seating aren't too noisy. The food was superb, reasonably priced and the service was excellent. The staff were very warm and friendly and the head waiter was extremely attentive. I had bruschetta or the anchovies and salmon to start and I had the black pepper fettuccine with Parmesan cheeses, lasagna and the pizza, best food I had in Rome. Desert was delicious, the limoncello and wine Superb!!! . My favorite restaurant while I was in Rome. Hope to visit Rome again and this place as well. read more

By far the best dining experience we had in Rome! Our waiter, Reddy, truly treated us like family. He was very patient with our limited Italian and helped us make some wonderful choices. We had a prosciutto and mozzarella for our starter, shrimp fettuccini for our first course and grilled tuna for our main course. For dessert we had tiramisu. After eating in several fine restaurants in Rome, we had an amazing dinner at Ristorante Calabascio. Our B&B host recommended it as his family's favorite restaurant. In a lovely neighborhood near the Vatican, Ristorante Calabascio offers a vast menu with moderate prices. Everything we sampled was exceptionally well prepared and delicious. As a notorious wine snob, I will testify that every glass (or bottle) of wine that we drank from their moderately priced selection was excellent. Eggplant parmesan, mussels, salads, pizza, amazing pasta dishes -- everything we ate provided a satisfying and memorable culinary experience. This is a friendly, fresh, and rustic restaurant in a pleasant neighborhood that's an easy ten minute stroll from Saint Peter's Basilica. Our waiter spoke countless languages, and served us flawlessly. Although we did try other restaurants, we returned many times after our first visit. No other restaurant compared as well, and Ristorante Calabascio always delighted us with their excellent lunches and dinners! read more

We have been here twice and tried pasta, pizza, salad, bruschetta and panna cotta. The pasta was great, homemade, fresh and al dente. The pizza was also great, Italian style of course with thin bottom. They used fresh ingredients which was noticeable from the taste. The salad was very fresh and the tomatoes really tasted a lot since they must have seen a lot of sunshine. Finally we had quite a hard time to find panna cotta in Rome, but here we found it. Although we had tried better ones, this was ok. The staff very very friendly and made jokes and so on just to make us feel happy, and we were happy to be here and to eat great food. read more

Finally!! An excellent Italian restaurant in Rome! We stayed at a hotel nearby and walked by this restaurant several times before giving it a try. We should have gone here right off the bat. We started off with the bruschetta toast, which is one large piece of toasted bread with flavorful tomatoes on top. My son had the seafood pasta which came in a really large tin foil bag. Look at my pictures to understand this description. He loved the seafood pasta, there was so much seafood that he ended up not being able to eat all of it. I had the spaghetti with clams. Lots and lots of clams and the pasta was delicious. We shared a piece of Tara Massoud for dessert, also excellent. FINALLY GOOD ITALIAN FOOD IN ROME!!! read more

Came across this restaurant after touring The Vatican. Everything was absolutely delicious.

Fantastic Italian food. Great service: staff have great English with barely an accent. Huge portions and flavoring is impeccable. The dishes are more designed with an American Italian feel (reminiscent of some top Italian places I've been to in the states). All in all, great location, beautiful restaurant and terrific food. We tripped across this gem of a local restaurant during our walk back to the other side of the river after a night tour of the Vatican Museums. It is one of my favorite food memories of Italy - the service was top notch (attentive without being obtrusive), the food just amazingly delicious and well sized (I had the best seafood pasta of my life here - served en papillote style in foil), and the price incredibly reasonable! I wish we'd had more days in Rome so we could go try other things on their menu - I need to go back someday to try the tiramisu that we overheard our neighboring table raving about. Sadly,, we were too full by the end of our meal to get dessert. read more

Honestly, the food is super great that I recommend ( mostly the seafood). However for my mom's wedding vacation, there was a delay due to the waitress miscommunication which she forgot my food. It was hot, and I waited since 7:20 for the food and it came around 8:15 which was unbelievable. I did not like the waitress who is brunette. Usually my family and I often go here and they have other good waiters and waitresses. Just this one was unacceptable... read more

The food and service Is Great, close to the Vatican you just have to walk 15 minutes. Don't go to the restaurants across the streets from the Vatican they are for tourists. It's worth to walk 15 minutes to go to Calabascio because local people eat there. read more

A little bummed out by this expedience after having some of the most amazing pasta the night before at another place. I was so excited to have more! Service was excellent and our waitress was very friendly. My husband got spaghetti carbonara and I the fettuccine (pepper and cheese.) Mine was good, but salty. Nothing in comparison to my husbands pasta which was inedible due to how salty it was. I thought maybe it was the bacon, but somebody seriously over salted this dish. It was rough. It made me sick to eat. Being that he will never return a dish, he just forced himself to have a few more bites and call it good. The bruschetta pomodoro was excellent, fortunately. Yelp led us astray on this one... I didn't think it was that expensive ($34 euro total, so approximately $45 USD) but I'm used to spending that much for the both of us anyway in Portland. read more

This restaurant has good food and staff. Close to theVatican and our apartment. We had lasagne, fresh pasta with Mussels and clams, and extra large shrimp. We tried three desserts, Tiramisu, panacota, and a great watermelon and sorbet dessert. All were very good to great. The waiter was very friendly and helpful. read more

Went there for dinner last night as it was close and had good reviews, but sadly we had to spend an hour just looking for a parking spot! When we finally sat down and ordered, the waiter apologized for the kitchen was very busy and we would have to wait for the food to come-putting the wine on the house. (But when the check came the wine was still charged) The food was very good, as with many other Italian restaurants in Rome. The waitress began as very friendly but, at some point in the meal, got very rude and snarky at some point. We were very sad to hear that they were out of lemon sorbet, but what was very annoying is that every few minutes a waiter or waitress would say "it's good right?"... Kind of gets rough when you hear it so often... Honestly I wouldn't come back but if you're in the neighbourhood than it makes sense. read more

Used yelp for the first time to find this delightful place, my wife and I loved it from the moment we got to the front door and were greeted by a the owner. We received the best service by far since our time here in Italy by the waiting staff. The food was very reasonably priced as well as delicious. I had a pizza and the wife had the sword fish, she said it was the best piece of sword fish she had eaten. Followed by a speedy dessert service of a panacotta and tiramasu to die for. read more

We were on our way to the Vatican City and had read elsewhere that food inside the Vatican City is not that good. So we stopped here for lunch around 12:30 in the afternoon. I think this is a family run restaurant- the grandpa welcomed us, and I guess his son waited in us. The Gnocchi with mozzarella and tomato sauce was awesome. It made my day. We also shared a margarita pizza, but coming from US, I think the pizza base could have used some salt. But overall, this was a good place, quiet and accommodating. read more

The raviolis made me want to cry (in a good way) and the tiramisu was pretty awesome too. It was my first really flavorful meal in Italy. So much so that I went back a second time. The second time the lasagna was pretty good just different (but I think I'm used to American-style heart attack on a plate lasagna so I may be biased). Yum yum yum! This restaurant was just up the street from our hotel, and was recommended by our tour guide. We went there as a group of 16 for dinner and everything was great! The menu had a great variety of options and the pricing was less than expected. The service was excellent and fast. I had the gnocchi for dinner and tiramisu for dessert. It was delicious! We actually came twice cause it was that good (and again, the service was amazing). We had mostly pasta dishes. Their pastas were homemade and you can tell. First mediocre meal in Rome. I ordered a salad and it was mostly cheap Iceberg lettuce, it was obvious that was corn was canned corn. The pizza was not great. Excellent service. Wide selection of pasta dishes, around 12 euros. Pizzas 8 euros. Got a beef dish that was shredded, which came as an unexpected surprise. We are in Rome as part of the first leg of our honeymoon. Highly recommend this restaurant. We were in Vatican City for a few hours and were tired, hungry, and thirsty. It's about a 10 minute, easy walk away from the hustle and bustle around the Vatican. Great food and service! read more
