Found this restaurant in a quiet alleyway after our Colosseum tour- the staff was super attentive (nice air conditioning!!) and the food was fantastic! I got the standard Roman meal, Amertriciana - the pasta was fresh, and the sauce was delicious! My daughter is picky but ordered the truffle pasta dish and loved it! Would definitely come back! La Cabana is a restaurant in the touristy area of Rome, Italy. When we first arrived in the city, we were super hungry and had checked in to our hotel (Corso 281). Our hotel recommended that we go to La Cabana and tell them that we were sent there from "Corso 281" specifically. The restaurant is a bit hidden in an alley, and when we walked in, it was extremely busy. They said they didn't have a table, but as soon as I said our hotel sent us, we were seated instantly! What a pleasant surprise. This restaurant was next-door to the hotel we stayed at in Rome so we decided to try it out on our last night there and we are so happy we did. The ambiance was nice and our waiter was totally amazing and so personable. He helped us select our items from the menu and noted our special requests. All the food we ordered was absolutely delicious and if we were there one more night I would've gone back for another meal. Recommended by our hotel and only 500 ft away! Make a reservation if possible but will seat you if you are there when they open at 7pm. We had the fried zucchini flowers stuffed with cheese, eggplant parmigiana, homemade pasta with cheese and pepper, veal Marsala and veal saltimboca. For dessert I'm not sure of name but they make it themselves with layers of puff pastry,cream filling and chocolate. Everything was pure heaven! Would highly recommend! It was the perfect location as we had been walking a lot that day and were really tired. In addition we would be heading home the next morning. It was just around the corner from our hotel. This was the first night they were open after being on holiday for a month. We were the only diners. Waiter was very kind and genuine. The food was pretty good. There was zero atmosphere. I asked if they could turn on the music through a speaker up on the ceiling but was told it didn't work. It was very quiet. It definitely served a purpose because it was close and food was good. Service too. My grandmother always said "you can't eat atmosphere" but I say it sure doesn't hurt to have some anyway. read more

Local restaurant with solid seafood and pasta options. We particularly enjoyed the grilled seabass - it was super fresh, perfectly grilled, and well-seasoned. Salmon was also excellent. The seafood pasta and proscuitto spaghetti was quite good as well - good sauces but pasta could be cooked a bit better - the seafood pasta was a bit too al-dente for us and the procuitto was a bit too soggy. Calamari was ok. Very friendly service - probably the best we had in Rome. Would definitely order the grilled fish dishes. read more

This place was a total gem to find!! I was a bit skeptical at first because we are pretty much in the city center and thought it was more of a tourist place but the food was just incredible!! We had the freshest pasta, mozzarella, prosciutto and focaccia! The wine selection was great. You've got to give this place a try. The service was so on point and was completely impressed with their attention to the two of us even though they had a pretty full house. An amazing local family owned and operated business. This is the truly authentic Italian experience you are looking for! Each dish is prepared when the order comes in. The pasta is always perfectly cooked and sauces rich and flavorful. Wild boar ragu, Calcio e Pepe, pesto, carbonara... you really can't go wrong. One of my favorite dishes here, sorry I can't remember the Italian word but it's basically a skirt steak grilled rare and sliced thin over a bed of arugula and topped with shaved Parmigiano Reggiano, literally one of my top 5 favorite dishes in Roma. It is nearly impossible to save room for dessert - BUT DO IT! The dessert cart is rolled out in all of its glory and from what I've learned over my year of frequenting this establishment is that Fabio's Mother makes all of the desserts on the magical cart. The fruit tart is always a hit but my favorite is the Torta Della Nonna. A custard tart with pine nuts and powdered sugar. The wines here are solid, the list is quite extensive but the house is perfect for every meal. La Cabana is in my top 3 resturants in all of Roma. read more

We asked our taxi driver if he would recommend a place and he directed us to a ristorante tucked in this cozy alley. Service is prompt and they have ample seating. We started with the fried anchovies which my hubby loved and devoured. He noticed the fresh seafood on display which prompted him to get the fried anchovies. We also ordered the soup of the day which was a ginormous bowl of hearty lentil soup just the way I like it. Very simply and not with tomato like it's sometimes made in the U.S. We then had cannelloni which was just ok. The pasta was a little over cooked. The pasta with salsiccia and broccoli was better and more flavorful. We ended our meal with the torta di Nona which we ravaged as the custard is quite delicious and satisfying. read more

My ratings and 5 stars are rare , but well deserved if you earn them! This place is a neighborhood gem and. Must try. Our private local guide of two days suggested this establishment. Our server was so eager to please us and his English was endearing. He listened to our likes and steered us in the right direction, but wasn't pushy. We started with the homemade focaccia and it really was so different than what we get served at . Our starter was a fried platter that included zucchini - delicious !! Three of us branched out and tried a variety of dishes. First,the Salmon fettuccine pasta was unlike anything you've ever tasted. Fresh , not fishy tasting, but savory flavors without being heavy. The veal marinara was lean and had wonderful flavors. Finally , the homemade fettuccini with bacon , zucchini flowers , and pecorino cheese stole the show. Always save a little room for dessert - our server brought out a wonderful cart of homemade local favorites. We couldn't decide , so he offered to give us two desserts , but split them in 2= we essentially had 4 ways to end a meal. So we thought ;). The lemon meringue yummy, tiramisu good, but not amazing , the ricotta chocolate torte light and perfect , & the vanilla custard chocolate cream puff cake was yummy. My mom's S/O was adamant this was the restaurant the 2 of them ate at years ago, so we came inside La Cabana and took a seat. Lo and behold, he was just hangry and wanted to eat... Anyway, La Cabana probably had the best service of any restaurant we ate at in Rome. They pride themselves more on seafood than anything else, so I would stick with the seafood dishes here. They had a great antipasti platter (mixed and prosciutto), and there were so many components to the mixed that you really got to taste a little bit of everything. I ordered the salt baked cod, which was really special - our server broke it apart and filleted it at the table. The cod was cooked perfectly but just *slightly* lacking in flavor (yes, I know it's baked in salt...but even then it felt a little underseasoned). My sister's spaghetti pescatore was actually really good - lots of fresh seafood but not overly salty - probably best dish of the night. We also ordered dessert because they looked so pretty on the cart that we had to order a couple. The only remarkable one was the lemon meringue - not as tart as I was expecting (it was almost TOO sweet, if you can believe it), but the meringue portion was very well done. La Cabana is a little bit pricier than other Roman restaurants, but overall we had a great time eating here (or as great as it could be after doing an exhausting as heck tour). read more

I had the carbonara and my wife had the fettucine with seafood. From the first bite you get the distinctive flavor of house made fresh pasta. And make sure you're hungry, because the portions are large (and delicious). The restaurant is comfortable, warm and very friendly. You really feel like you're in someone's home. It's rated three Euros on the price, but I think that's high. We had appetizer, two pasta dishes and a half bottle of wine and the bill only came to 50E. That's a bargain in a city like Rome. La Cabana is fabulous! We ate here our first night when we arrived Rome at about 9pm. The prosciutto and melon was so fresh and tasty, it literally melts in your mouth. My daughter and I each had a pasta dish and shared a lemon dessert. All the the food was outstanding and the price was very reasonable. We ate here our 3rd night and are going back again tonight, our final night in Rome! When my mom asked what the fresh fish of the day was, the waiter took her to the back to select her sea bass. And that sea bass (baked with potatoes and zucchini) was THE BEST fish she had ever had. Really! She was so happy that her eyes were glistening and face was glowing. She ate the entire fish slowly (for an hour) to savor every bite. My dad got a sea bass also but baked with a salt crust. The waiter brought the freshly baked bass to our table and broke the salt crust and removed major spine and everything in front of us. It was quite entertaining to watch! A+ for technique. My dad loved it so much that he wanted to go eat this fish again for breakfast before our flight back to the U.S. Sadly, this place doesn't open until noon and our flight at noon. Regardless, you must try the sea bass! I personally liked my moms better than my dads because her sea bass was accompanied by vegetables. But both options are as soft as butter and flavorful. I got the sirloin with green peppercorn sauce and my sisters got pastas (arabiatta and one with pine nuts/basil/tomatoes). Delicious! Quiet side street, easy to talk with the person you are dining with as the place is small, cozy and very inexpensive. Bread, bottle of wine and two great meals for $55 Euros. La cabana was recommended highly by our small hotel as an intimate family style True Italian restaurant with delicious Roman cuisine. It was none of those things. We were ushered quickly through a large cavernous series of rooms and seated efficiently in what may have been a windowless war bunker with ersatz decor like you might find in a low end American mall. The wine was very ordinary and tannic. I noticed the restaurant had a peculiar smell but concluded that perhaps it was days of cooking odor collecting in our windowless room. My daughter ordered the penne primavera. Served as undercooked pasta with some tomatoes and some chunks of chilled super market mozzarella and the "drizzle" of olive oil. A totally tasteless mess that was eventually doused with chili oil to no avail. I ordered the seafood fettuccini and received a rubbery pasta dish with various previously cooked but now chilled shellfish swimming in a gelatinous beige sauce of some sort. I remarked optimistically that the pasta was possibly homemade....,the meal ended with the free limoncello but I wasn't so lucky, I received a special liquor, micro liters of which had a capacity to render the tastebuds unable to function. The price was high in more ways than one. Advice. Go to any random Roman restaurant and it will be a better experience than this "family" restaurant! read more
