Great space to study, it is fairly packed throughout the week with other virtual workers so you do have to be patient in finding a spot. WiFi and outlets are available. The coffee and pastries are a little pricey and the orders do take longer to come out than other spots around. The staff is somewhat fonce but not super friendly. Stopped in because the establishment was absolutely beautiful. Even from the outside the natural wood pergola stands out. There is great use of the space with group tables, counter seating, and couches with additional seating in a loft. Service is good. Not bubbly or enthusiastic but decent. I ordered a vanilla chai and it was more tart than I expected. The mocha seemed to be delicious. Definitely a good place to recuperate after walking union market, la cosecha, or dining at one of the nearby restaurants. I learned there are other franchises in Bethesda and Georgetown. I did a pastry tasting a few days ago, ordered 6 different pastries and coffee, to get a complete sense of it. First and foremost, I give 4 stars to the experience because of the amazing cookie/croissant. It's a cookie topped with hazelnut cream and another cream I don't know on top, enclosed in a sort of croissant...what a dream! Please take it, if you're there and want to do yourself a favor . Service was nice, waiting time not too long and a very pleasant environment. I appreciate the green and the large table, as well as the not too strong AC inside, which makes it very pleasant on a hot day. What I do not recommend are the brownie-like pastry (I really took a bite and left the rest there - which I rarely do) and anything with Pistachio cream. I'll be specific about why: as far as the brownie is concerned, I suggest to find a different recipe for the dough, which tasted like raw dough. As far as the pistacchio pastries are concerned, the dough is absolutely fine, and I believe the olive oil and pistachio (one specific pastry) are an interesting combination. What I do not appreciate, is the pistacchio cream used. It seems to be pistachio syrup, very sugary and chemical, rather than high quality and high percentage pistacchio cream. I consider this to be a high level bakery, so finding low quality ingredients (especially when it comes to pistacchio cream) is really disappointing... on the other hand it is an easy fix! had to try the new union market location of maman. *atmosphere: lots of florals. light, dreamy. super cute blue and white ceramics. tons of seating. i was going to order a lavender hot chocolate but the barista put in a lavender honey latte. i was okay with the change up so i decided it give it a try (with oat milk only, naturally). *honey lavender latte (2/5) super underwhelming. couldn't taste the lavender at all. is it just the garnish? it also didn't have a creamy froth (more airy and bubbly) *nutty chocolate chip cookie (5/5) delicious, crispier outside and dense soft inside. i've been having a craving for a thicker cookie so this was what i was looking for *pistachio orange olive oil cake (5/5) yes. moist cake, light orange frosting. takeaways: will be coming back for bakery items. but will probably stick to unido or blue bottle (on the same block) for my morning latte side note: not good for doing work. no wifi and also no phone service (thanks verizon ). it would be a nice place to catch up with a friend or something where you just want a nice atmosphere read more

I was in sheer disbelief at the low quality of food! My daughter and I both ordered a turkey and bacon sandwich with Red pepper aioli. The aioli looked like cheez wiz! This was definitely not house made or even a decent jar of Aioli. I also ordered a side of house potatoes. These potatoes were day old and warmed in a microwave! They were by no means fresh potatoes. they were dried out and shriveled up . They had the nerve to throw some greenery on top of them!! I should have known something was up when we saw the last patron's bowl full of potatoes that hadn't been touched! really? old potatoes. The worst part of it all, the water bottle with "fresh" water . My daughter opened up the latch to discover the little white top was filthy! Black ring around the inside of the top! Full of bacteria. Do they clean these bottles or just refill them! ? The service was also subpar. This was a total waste of our money and time. I'm a visitor to DC. I've been here every Spring for the last 7 years? I've never experienced this at any other restaurant that my daughter has taken me to. Very disappointed. read more

Went on a Sunday around noon and it was extremely packed but the wait for seating went by quick! You absolutely have to get the iced honey lavender latte!! One of the best lattes I've ever had I got the eggs ratatouille that wasn't too bad and the tomato basil soup that was delicious! Oh my. This was such a disappointment. The lure of French pastries and quaint cafe setting was quickly replaced with disorganized service and overpriced food. We arrived at 11:40am and waited on line for 20 minutes to place our order--a sandwich and a slice of quiche. As I'm typing this, it's been 45 minutes since we placed the order and STILL NO QUICHE! I use to love Maman when I would visit NYC. I was excited to have one open in my neighborhood. Sadly, though I have given it multiple chances, it really falls short. My orders are regularly wrong, the food is not as good as it has been in NYC, and more than once my food has simply come out wrong. I ordered a standard Green Goddess salad after staff came out with the wrong order twice, my salad was missing quinoa and pumpkin seeds. Not to mention, there was barley any zucchini. Not sure why I would bother paying these prices for consistent disappointment. read more

Atmosphere and ambiance were lovely; great lighting, decor, and garden-like vibe. So charming! The service was lacking. I ordered avocado toast with salmon and my friend ordered a quiche. Food took 20+ minutes on a slow Monday afternoon, but we were okay with that. Her food looked great, but mine came out without salmon. Friend confirmed I ordered it and it was on the check (with an upcharge). We pointed out the missing salmon to the server, who was incredulous. It was as if she never had to respond to food coming out wrong. She sent over a manager, who we had to explain the whole issue to again, and I showed her the receipt because she questioned if I ordered it. She said she'd bring me a side. I had to ask her twice to take it back and add the salmon; I paid extra for salmon avocado toast, and they could add it (I didn't want it remade, just added). She was reluctant to fix it and came back more than 5 minutes later with the salmon on a toothpick on the toast. I'm surprised a place with such lackluster service and lacking basic hospitality from all levels of service staff has such great reviews, especially at these prices. There are plenty of other coffee shops with much better service and great food. read more

I ordered a sandwich to go, and after 20 minutes of waiting they told me my order was overlooked. They gave me a refund, and said they'd make it ASAP, and I sat there for an extra 20+ minutes waiting for my sandwich while I watched countless other orders get fulfilled, only to find out that they canceled my order the second time... even though they saw me waiting there after I told them I was still waiting for my order the first time! After almost an hour, all I got was an apology that the food I had ordered wasn't made, and I had to insist on them still making the sandwich b/c they were going to send me away with a mere "mea culpa." Waiting an hour for a sandwich that should've taken 5-10 minutes is absurd. And consistently being ignored and overlooked as a customer is also not a good look. There's no excuse for this type of customer service, ever. read more

One of the worst experiences in DC. I left that place crying. The staff, the service were so rude so unprofessional awful. I was sitting outside waiting for my order, which if you have been to NOMA one you know it takes them 45 minutes for a cappuccino, and the staff told me I should move inside because of the rain. I went inside, at this point 30 minutes and counting waiting for TEA, the waiter comes and asks me if my dog is service animal. I said yes. She asked "what kind " I told her she has no right to ask me what kind as long as my dog is a service animal I don't have to explain "what kind" and what does that even mean!!??? Having already had 4 other bad experiences here, in none of those my dog was with me, I asked her to just wrap my order to go. She then tosses me my order over the counter. I told her that behavior was rude and the reply was I'm the manager today coming from NY it is what it is. Basically just paid 17$ for an avocado toast to be treated so badly. I left there so upset that I had to sit outside on another restaurant's chair and had a panic attack. The other restaurant staff was very nice and offered me some water and calmed me down. I'm so furious that have already contacted the right authorities to put in a formal complaint. Treating disabled people with service dogs so viciously is another level of "bad service " read more

The nutella brownie was greasy, not terribly flavorful and too sweet. The nutty chocolate chip cookie was also greasy, but would have been good except it mostly tasted like Macadamia nuts. Beautiful restaurant design with really good food and drinks! The service was good, and all the staff were extremely nice. I got a soy milk cappucino and the tartine au saumon, and both were visually pleasing and very delicious. I am disappointed because I've been to the other locations and always had great food/coffee. When this one opened I went and got a few of the pastries but sadly they were over-cooked. I figured it might just have been that day so I came back and this time I got the ham and cheese croissant -- for its price it was a huge letdown. It had one piece of ham, no mustard as stated on the menu and was cold by the time they brought it to me. I'm sad... I hope it improves! Coffee isn't bad if they bring the correct one. read more
