The salmon belly literally melted in our mouths and was delicious, highly recommend for any salmon lovers. The playboy roll (subbed soy paper for seaweed) was such a fresh roll. Grabbed dinner with a friend here and we were both pleasantly surprised at how good it was. We ordered the ocean wrap, chicago roll, salmon carpaccio, and amazon roll. Also tried their scallop, mackerel, and unagi nigiri. Everything was fresh and oh so delicious. Orders came out quick and service was good. We didn't get our miso soup until we asked at the end of our meal. I've never had miso at the end of my meal but it wasn't bad, just on the saltier side. I love the food and the service is great but for some reason the prices are not what I expect them to be. It's not a cheap place. Every time I go there I end up spending a lot more than I thought but then again the food is really good so I am conflicted. I really like this place. It's on a quiet street in old town and has a small outdoor patio. The food is solid, I really like their non rice options so different from sushi. Their rolls have really playful names and I appreciate that they have a nice range of vegetarian rolls. Their soups are super tasty. Definitely on rotation for our home. With 7ish pieces of salmon laid on top of sushi rice topped with ikura, the salmon donburi definitely was a good ratio. Took a chance and ordered Say Fish $13 and Salmon attack $12 despite the low reviews. Eight pieces each. Good quality and quantity. The garlic chips on the salmon attack really enhances the flavors. The tempura was amazing!! The batter and temperature control was perfect! All in all, like another Yelper said: "we kept saying it was so good after every bite." 10/10 would come back. Food: -Flaming Gyu Maze-men (last item under the ramen section). This is a no broth ramen. I have pretty good tolerance and I thought it was super spicy but so delicious! -Dynamite was good but nothing special. They let you know it takes 20 minutes to prepare but it arrived at our table in less time! -Crispy rice was good. I loved that the rice was warm but the tuna was cool. -SCS roll was generous and yummy too. There are so many rolls to choose from but I would order again. Outdoor Dining & Service: They are primarily indoors. They only have one outdoor table so call ahead to reserve it if you want to dine outside! They offer hand sanitizer at all the tables which is a plus for me. There was a small wait outside for diners and to go orders on a Friday around 7pm. Service was speedy and attentive even though we were outside and they were busy. Parking: There is street parking and some loading space in front if you are doing a quick pick up for a to go order. Decent sushi place a few streets down from the busy Main Street. We stumbled upon this place because we were tired of the long waits on the Main Street. Love they they provide hand sanitizer for each table. They were slightly understaffed in waiter staff on a Wednesday dinner time. The food was pretty yummy. Especially the rolls. The crab hand roll was not that great though because it was over powered by the sauce they use, can't really taste the crab. The yuzu ramen was not flavorful enough. When we sat down the first item I saw on the menu was the spicy edamame. A lot of restaurants have it on their menu and it's either not spicy or good and this was excellent. We LOVE Mama M and everything she has to offer. We've been ordering take out for over a year! The truly take pride in making sure your order is correct. They have never messed up one of our to go orders in the year plus that we've ordered from them every Friday night. They've gotten so used to us, they remind me of nuances in our order when I forget! Their staff is knowledge, professional, and very friendly! They made us feel like a part of their family. When we were able to finally sit inside, it even furthered our love for this establishment. We order differently for take out. So now, we were really able to put their sushi skills and freshness to the test! And we were blown away! Their fish is so good! My first 5-star review of 2019 and well deserved too. With a plethora of AYCE sushi restaurants in California, something that does not exist in the Midwest, it's nice to go to places where that's not an option. Sure, the bill is higher but the presentations (that AYCE typically does not have) are a feast for the eyes prior to savoring the superior quality fish. Located on Holly Street not far from the center of activities on Colorado Boulevard, we parked in the Green Street structure and enjoyed the short walk to the restaurant. It is wonderfully intimate inside. Dark lighting creates a sense of calm, which is important when eating so that food is enjoyed to its fullest. Although small and nearly every table for four was occupied, we only had to wait a few minutes before getting a small but well situated table in the back. High, white, padded booth backs lend a touch of class and comfort to anyone who sat there. I deferred to my lovely lady and took the chair. The menu is extensive and the daily special board was nearby and nicely illuminated. Toro for $12? Hmmm. We proceeded to make two separate orders. The first round had only one cut roll with rice so while the delectable tastes of the Salmon Carpaccio, Beachs Nude (Albacore filets), the baked mussels (finely sliced and a wonderful sauce) had ranges of flavors and textures, we weren't full. No problem, the menu has what seemed like over 50 possible cut rolls to choose from so two more rolls and Toro Sushi put a nice cap on a fantastic meal. All throughout the dining experience our server was sweet, attentive and friendly. I'd definitely recommend the restaurant. They are closed on Mondays and also have a happy hour between 4:30 and 7pm. Hours of operation are flexible, they close at 9:30pm Tuesday through Thursday and ar 10:30pm on Friday and Saturday nights. read more
