As I arrived many small empty tables were left not cleared for new customers. Maybe short staff. Waited little over 15 minutes for them to clear the tables. Service was okay little slow. Ordered sushi and miso soup first along with spicy hamachi hand rolls and unagi, avocado cut rolls and baked salmon collard. For me the miso was lukewarm warm and sushi was cut slightly on thin side. Octopus ( tako ) was bit chewy. Hand roll tasted delicious with large chunks of fresh sushi and cucumber but the nori was not crispy. Honestly, this was such a letdown. The service was sloppy. I had to walk up to the server just to add something, and even then she messed up my order. I pointed at the regular salmon collar (2 pieces) but she put in a lunch special without asking. What came out was sashimi I didn't want and just one salmon collar with burnt rice. When I asked for the proper order, she came back later saying it was sold out. The fish itself didn't feel fresh at all. The tuna and salmon looked dull, tasted fishy, and honestly weren't even supermarket quality. For the price, it's hard to believe all the glowing reviews online. The fish is super fresh. The seasonings are understated (not in a bad way at all). The presentation was lovely. We had veggie tempura, albacore special roll, and a bento box. It's also expensive, especially for a place with a very sad true crime murder mystery on t.v. Maybe the t.v. part was accidental, but I would pay more not to have t.v., especially if it's sad or sports... this was both. I want a mix of a bunch of ingredients rolled up and eaten in 1 bite. Sometimes it's hard to find a good spot for rolls that aren't basic. Mama M has it down. They have some really tasty rolls that are different than what other spots have and it's totally fresh and always served beautifully. I sometimes have my ups and downs with my orders ( wrong item or DoorDash issues) but overall it's really good and I'd order again & again. I hate to give this little shop an average review, but it was pretty underwhelming for me. I got two rolls to-go: the dragon and the firecracker. I don't usually order eel intentionally but I wanted to try it on the afternoon I visited. I felt one roll wouldn't be enough so I browsed their menu for a second and only found that their firecracker roll looked appetizing. Neither roll was spectacular, but I don't know if I would have enjoyed the dragon roll if I ordered from somewhere else.
