I came in for a paint change because my French tip wasn't high enough everything else was perfect especially the shape. After the young girl was done i asked her to shape my nails because they were now not symmetrical and looked bulky from the build up of paint. After she shaped them and my other hand was so call was done I asked for the nail file to shape my own nails. A while later my nails were more to my liking I went to pay. When I brought up the shape the old lady with glasses said that i Shouldve said something I'm like I did, she's like well you should have showed a picture (I didn't know she was a visual learner). Im like a Picture has nothing to do with the shape I already came in with. I came in literally square shape amazing only wanting my paint fixed. I lift bulky paint and soft square as the older lady w glasses tried to call it. She offered to do my other hand but unfortunately after the micro aggression ,wasted time and money i declined and took a nail file home for my arts and crafts project read more

best place I have been, the experience was awesome,it was a accident I found them ,will definitely be returning

I went back to this nail salon three times. The first time was great. I was about to move to chapel hill and was testing out new salons in the area. I stopped by this one and it was great. I came back a few weeks later for a fill and it wasn't as great. The design was a little bit more difficult and it didn't come out as i was hoping and she cut my fingers a little bit. The last time I went back she completely burned my fingers with the drill. it hurt so bad for days and i was worried i was going to get an infection. on top of that the gel was too this so it wasn't fully cured underneath and turned out to be very messy. please save your money read more

I took away one star because they left me feet soaking for a good 45 mins or so... which after a while wasn't that pleasing. Otherwise I didn't have a long wait because I made an appointment in the morning. I didn't get the young ladies name that did my nails but she did a good job and didn't even clip my cuticles too far!! Got a regular pedi and I like it! Tip: go in early because there are only a couple of people working at one time plus STUDENT DISCOUNT read more

First time here today and I had a great experience! Got a gel manicure and got my tips taken off from a previous manicure at other salon-- completely painless and gentle. The guy did a really nice job and made sure everything looked nice. Good prices and there wasn't a wait so I was seated immediately. Also good selection of polishes! read more

Malibu Nails - Gel Manicure - Cosmetics & Beauty Supply Near Me - Chapel Hill, North Carolina

Malibu located away from the main campus has a hole in a wall feel vs a luxurious salon. I have been going there for the last three years bc they are AMAZING. They are gentle, they do a thorough job with cleaning, are very detailed with gels, and their work stays on FOREVER- In short, best quality in town. BUT, they recently lost me as a customer after multiple long wait times, the last being over 1.5 hours to be seen (even with an appointment). That's the downfall of this place, the long wait times. They are popular and busy because you get the best bang for your buck here as manis go for $27 (w/ student discount). But making an appointment, doesn't mean anything, you'll wait as long as it takes to get seen. I have numerous times seen people leave as they waited too long. I have also seen the staff promise much shorter wait times for walk ins. It's really a shame. If they had a better scheduling process, they would get 5/5 stars for me because as I said, they are by far the best quality in the chapel hill area. TLDR: best quality in town but beware of long wait times even with appointment read more

Malibu Nails - Courtesy of Nina, amazing job! - Cosmetics & Beauty Supply Near Me - Chapel Hill, North Carolina

I recently came here for a pedicure last week. The guy at the front desk was amazing and gave me great service! The pedicure was GREAT and I would definitely take my daughter here soon to get her nails done! (I saw her doing other peoples nails and it looked so sigma) read more

This was a great experience, my nails came out great! Excellent service from the person at the front :)

I went in for a simple polish change. They told me it would be 15 minutes and did this with a sneer. I don't understand why they are so rude when I'm giving them business? After about 20 minutes another girl with no appointment came in and asked for the same service as I had asked for. She said down almost immediately and they started to work on her. I said how long will it be for me and the owner rolled her eyes and said five minutes but if you want to leave and come back another time you can do that. If you are successful - which they don't seem to be since the shop was almost empty - I guess you can afford to be rude and snotty. I will never attempt to go there again and definitely will steer all of my friends away from this obnoxious place. read more

I've been coming here for years since I live close by and the prices cannot be beat. However the wait time with or without appointments can be finicky. Ann does a great job and I always leave satisfied. Will be coming back and continuing to support her! read more

Such a great find for all your nail needs! Nina is awesome and takes care to make sure your nails are perfect and just how you want them. They've got a great selection of colors for regular and gel manis. Also, their Pedicure is soo relaxing! They definitely take their time to scrub up your feet and legs so you walk out feeling ready for sandal weather. They're really good about using clean tools which is a huge plus in my book. The prices for their services are super reasonable as well. I had to knock a star off because my pedicure was messed up the first time someone else did it. Luckily Nina fixed it for me with no complaints, but it did make me late for my next meeting. Make an appointment if you can because they're pretty popular and it can get crowded quick. read more

I popped in here for the first time ever just to get my gel polish removed, and I will NOT be back. Do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY from this place. The photos here do NOT represent how this place currently looks at all. Every single leather chair looks like it has been through a shredder. The leather is completely pealing and torn. The woman who took off my polish did a fine job but asked twice about how I wanted my nails shaped etc. when I had told her I was ONLY doing a polish removal. Then, I paid in cash (which they always prefer) and she said not ONE word of thanks for my business. It's as if they're insulted when you don't come in for a big full service treatment. Really terrible environment and very poor customer service. read more

Only $15 for a gel polish change! Keep in mind this does not include a manicure... But it does include removing old gel polish.. Such a good deal! I got French which was $20 total and the guy did an awesome job! Today I was given the best pedicure I have EVER had the pleasure of getting. The massage chairs are seriously impressive enough make even a poorly done pedicure worthwhile. Luckily that was not the case! I don't know the technician's name and don't think she spoke much English but I didn't mind. I wanted to relax quietly rather than gab anyway! She was careful, thorough, and gentle and made me feel at ease. And when it came time to massage my calves, she was not afraid to dig deep! I loved it! The actual paint job was great too. Nicely done! I also had my first gel nail manicure done by Jimmy and he was great. He was more talkative and did a fantastic job on my nails. I am hooked on gel nails. And for the prices they charge (so cheap!) why wouldn't I be hooked?! I hadn't had my nails painted in about 3 years (maybe more??) because I hate how quickly they chip, but I do not have to worry about that with gel nails so exciting! (When you're 30 weeks pregnant, little things like this make you feel so much more elegant!) The clients that were there were both regulars and super friendly. They were getting gel manicures done as well and highly recommended Malibu Nails for repeat business. That's a good sign! I will definitely be back. Thank goodness this place is just down the street from my son's preschool! Score!! Go in and treat yourself. You won't regret it. Oh, and I was a walk in on a Tuesday at noon. There was no wait. I went to this place for almost a year because of the price, and the fact that few people in the area seem to offer SNS... & do a good job. However, every time I went, it was an anxiety inducing experience. They have no respect for appointment times. With an appointment, I would generally wait around 20 mins to get a chair, then anywhere from 30 mins to an hour with my nails soaking to get previous SNS off (I think it would really be MAX ten mins needed to soak). So so frustrating, but i would put up with it for the above stated reasons. The last time I went was the final straw, when I requested her first appt of the day 2.5 weeks in advance to reduce wait times, but ended up walking in with 2 people waiting for the same service with my same technician. Because I was limited on time, the appointment was rushed and she did not do a very good job on my nails... in addition to the fact that one customer stormed out mid-appointment and another visibly angry for various reasons. Every time I went they would overbook appointments and have visibly disgruntled customers waiting and waiting to be seen WITH appointments. And they would still take walk-ins and mislead them on wait times. Really unprofessional. Needless to say I'll never go back, and I am very happy Soho Nail Lounge in Durham recently opened. Excellent job on nails and a FAR more pleasant experience. read more

Good enough place for a nice deluxe pedicure While I was traveling through and the girl did a good job with all components, massage, nail painting etc. nothing to write home about but good. The pedi chairs are really super close together which was a little off putting but I know it's a small place so they are trying to make the most of it. The worst part though was that there's too much stuff lying around-drinks, food etc. they sat me at a table to dry my toes and this was my view and smell. Dominoes pizzas right at my nose that had been sitting here for a few hours it seems. read more

I waited a long time to get my nails done anywhere in the Triangle because I saw too few places that were reviewed well, in addition to being a good price. Malibu Nails might not be as cheap as a Manhattan dime-a-dozen manicure, but it is THE BEST MANICURE I HAVE EVER HAD. I just always thought my nails were weirdly shaped and there was nothing I could do about it, but I was wrong. I am honestly thrilled and surprised to see that my nails could look the way they do. The technicians really take their time (1.5 hours for a mani-pedi) and are super thorough. Usually I would take away one star for polish selection, but you can just bring your own and I'm too happy with the way my nails look. The pedicure also was completely luxurious and I was beginning to think they were giving me a deluxe without telling me, but nope. All those creams, softeners, sloughing and pumice-stoning come standard. Atmosphere was pretty basic but clean and well-lit, with magazines. So impressed, and all for only $33 plus tip. I will definitely be back and you should definitely go here. read more

Great prices and really happy with the service, the staff are great! They have a student discount as well.

If i could give less than 1 star, I would. This place is terrible. I went for a full gel set with gel polish. My nail tech, Ana, clearly did not know what she was doing and my nails show for it. My nail is already broken and i've gotten my nails done less than 12 hours ago. And not to mention, all Ana talked about was how good she did gel nails be back in the day. It is clear as day that my nails look nothing like they've been done by a "veteran". I've been getting gel for long enough to know when the service is great and when the service is bad. This will be my FIRST AND LAST TIME ever going to Malibu Nails. Took a look at my nails to see for yourself. Please spend your money elsewhere. IMG_2621.JPG IMG_2622.JPG read more

Price on point. ($25 for gel mani) Nail techs are super sweet. Actual mani left me with well groomed nails and thorough paint job. Then why the 3 stars? Timeliness...the place is small so I get it's hard to squeeze everyone in. But I was told 15-20 minutes and it was suggested I grab a coffee next door and come back. So I did that and was back 20 minutes later only to wait another 45 minutes. So it was over an hour before I was worked on. I was hoping this was just a one time deal as one of the techs apologetically explained that they had someone call in today. So while I was sympathetic I noticed that all the other clients that even had appointments were waiting waiting waiting. The gal next to me had an appointment but also had waited an hour...and again you can't control when people call in sick BUT each new person that came in was told the wait would be 10-20 minutes. I just think that maybe they should be more upfront with the actual time as even my nail tech was going back and forth between me and another client. You could even feel the tension a bit from annoyed customers. HOWEVER, I think I would still come back. Ni was my technician and was very sweet and paid close attention to detail as she worked. I also overheard them tell a an elderly customer that had forgotten her wallet to not worry about it and just pay next time! How sweet is that? I just think you need to come right when they open and know that an appointment doesn't necessarily mean shorter waiting times. read more

If you are trying to get a quick and affordable mani pedi, this is your place. If you get both the gel mani and basic pedi, it's about $51. If you are a student, then good news, YOU GET $2 OFF. Henry did my nails and he was great and patient with me finding the exact color I was looking for. The pedi was okay. I appreciated the price and the vast array of good nail polish qualities and colors. Both colors I chose were out because they were so popular but Henry was patient with me until I found a shade close enough to what I wanted. read more

Fit me right in for an afternoon pedi, though I guess I was lucky because the other two chairs were already being utilized, and a third wasn't working, so I got the last spot. Not a very updated space in terms of decor, but I appreciated that it was very clean and thorough. I could see the sanitizing units on the wall across from the pedicure chairs. My technician spent a great deal of time on me too. There's going to be no right way to say this... I was a little nervous at first because she had one lazy eye. But she still did pretty detailed work. There were a few pen-points of errant polish, but really not bad at all. Plus, the massage was ah-mazing. And she was really friendly. For $25, the standard pedi actually comes with quite a few perks: a salt scrub, cheese grater thingy on your feet prior to pumice, callus softener saran wrap. Be sure to check the second polish stand (towards the back wall) for more colors -- I didn't realize it was there until after I was seated for my pedi. I think all the good colors get used and placed there -- leaving all the unpopular colors up front. My toes are currently a festive shade of Barney-the-dinosaur purple. read more

Do not come here if you value your time or your skin. Very rough nail technician, cut 4 of my nails to the point of bleeding. Hopefully they do not get infected as the technician merely wiped off tools before using them on my nails. I have not seen any sterilization of materials in the salon. When I spoke up about it they were not at all apologetic and in fact were downright rude saying that they are "very busy". Furthermore, I had an appointment for 2:30 and I wasn't seen until 3:30 and while my technician was working on my nails he also started on another client. I will not be coming back because of this painful experience. read more

The quality of service was great and Malibu Nails is so much cheaper than any other nail salon in Chapel Hill. My nails were perfect! The only reasons I'm not giving 5 stars is 1. This place wouldn't be good I go to with a big group of girls. There were only 4 technicians working and only 3 or 4 nail stations and a couple pedicure stations. That said, this was no problem for me as I came alone. 2. The techs weren't super talkative. I don't really mind this, but there weren't TVs or anything so I got a little bored. To me though, the quality of the nails is definitely worth the lower price!! read more

I've been coming here for a year and I've always had good experiences until today, and I don't know if I will be going back. I left the salon today with three deep cuts in three of my fingers. They're extremely painful, and the man continued to file my nails despite the deep cuts and making me bleed. I've never had such a painful nail experience in my life. My nails look good but my hands are a mess, and I'll have to wear bandaids on my fingers until they heal. I would only recommend Nina or the two other ladies if you visit this salon. read more

Went in person around 11am to make an appt for two at 2:30. Woman asked I arrive at 2:20. I got to the salon at 2:15 and there were two women being serviced and a third waiting. Only two manicurists were there at that time. They asked we pick out our polish. After waiting until 2:30 it was evident there was no way they were going to get to me and my mom in time (had to leave to head to the airport). We told the woman we had to leave, she looked up and didn't say a word. no apology, no "do you want to reschedule?" Very rude and unprofessional. By the way, the gel polish was old and thick and they did not have classic colors (ie funny bunny by OPI). Won't ever go back here read more

Let me just first say that I had really REALLY high expectations for this place because of all the great Yelp reviews.. My friend and I made an appointment for 2 manicures at 6:30PM Thursday night. Expecting to be treated right away, we had to wait about 25-30 minutes past our appointment time. They were really backed up because other people with appointments arrived late and they were also short on staff because of the weather. The lady that did my nails was super nice and very sincere. She kept apologizing for starting so late, which I understood. However, because we started so late, and they were closing at 7:30PM, my manicure process was and felt very rushed. It looks great, but I feel that taking a little more time would have made it better and would have allowed the worker to pay more attention to the details. I noticed some bubbles and lack of polish on the side of my nails when I got home. I think that I just went during a bad time...I am definitely going to go back! I was satisfied with the customer service. I definitely would recommend making an appointment!! read more

One of the best (if not THE best) pedicure I have ever gotten. The nail tech took her time and gave me the full service. She made sure the polish was perfect and very neat. The price was great as well. I got the deluxe pedicure which came with the usual plus a mud mask, cooling gel, and salt scrub. It was only $10 to upgrade and was $36 total. I've been to a couple places around Chapel Hill and so far this is my favorite. The only reason I gave 4 stars is the wait. They don't seem to have enough staff so even if you go on a weekday in the middle of the day (which I did) you may still have to wait 15-20 minutes. read more

It was crowded the Friday night we went there but after I realized it was Prom weekend the fact that they saw us right away was astounding. My daughters wanted pedicures done so we stopped by. We were greeted right away which was appreciated. I hate going into a service based business where I just stand there unsure of what to do. They picked out nail polishes. All of the bottles were clean without any drip marks or gunk. They were taken back and had a very nice experience. We just went for the basic which I find is generally plenty as the pedicure took 40 minutes as it was. They charged me $23 for the kids instead of $25 for adults. They do eyebrows there and though I know nothing about this service woman after woman and one man came in asking for it so they must know what they are doing. They staff are friendly and made the girls feel welcome and comfortable. The outcome was very pretty and polished. Not sure about longevity as it's only been a few days. Would definitely return.
