I've been coming to Moss Beauty for over 6 years and cannot recommend it enough. Rhonda the owner is the most amazing waxer. She uses two different types of wax and makes the process as close to painless with her incredible skills. She now focuses solely on body waxing and especially bikini and legs/arms. She's been doing this a long time and even when I've been traveling and had to go to other places nowhere compares to Moss. She is also a great sex educator and sells high quality and well-curated toys in her store. She'll give you great advice and is just fun and easy to be around and talk to. Lastly she's super LGBTQ+ welcoming and embracing - so it doesn't matter who you are you will be welcomed and made to feel very comfortable at Moss. read more

I went to Moss Waxing and Beauty Studio today for my first ever waxing experience. Of course, I'd tried those cheap-y Sally Henson warm-between-your-hands waxing strips, but they really didn't work well, and I ended up tugging out only a few hairs but was still left in a decent amount of pain. And had sticky residue all over me. A failed attempt, pretty much. So, with that in mind, I went in for my 11:00 appointment. Rhonda promptly greeted me and got everything prepped for me. I was in for a totally bare Brazilian wax, and Rhonda made me feel very comfortable; I didn't feel at all awkward having my girlybits all out there for her. Perhaps it's a bit TMI, but it was hot outside and I was sweaty all over by the time I got to Rhonda's studio, so I was a bit nervous that I'd be all gross, but Rhonda didn't bat an eye, so I was quick to relax myself. Rhonda is very personable and we talked about a lot of different things as she did the waxing, including everything from the book that she's in the process of writing (called the Vagina Catalogue, which sounds like it'll be a fun way for women to feel less awkward about their bits--look, smell, taste, touch, sound, everything) to tidbits of her own personal life to horror stories of other clients/waxing experiences (which I requested; I have an ungodly obsession with hearing about things gone horribly wrong). I felt totally at ease asking her about any part of the procedure and totally at ease asking pretty much any other question I had in mind. If you have any questions about waxing, for instance, Rhonda is very no-nonsense and tell you straight up what the truth is, rather than how people market the procedure, and I really appreciated having straight, honest answers. Rhonda suggested that I come back for more waxing in 4-6 weeks; initially, I wondered if her suggestion to not tweeze between waxing appointments was a way to get people to become dependent on the waxing services she provides, but, after she explained the fact that hair grows in three cycles and that it would ultimately be more efficient to just let hair grow out and wax it instead of tweezing in between, I came to realize (along with her other answers to my questions) that Rhonda just wants to make sure her clients get the best experience, and that she isn't just out to get your money. I also really enjoyed being able to start up a personal relationship with Rhonda from even just this first experience, and the feeling that Rhonda really cares about my well-being is one of the things that makes me want to come back in the future. Anyway, I was expecting the waxing to hurt more than it did; of course, the part where the hairs are actually being ripped out hurt pretty bad, but the stinging went away after a couple seconds, and I'm sure all the fun smalltalk helped distract me from getting hundreds of hairs simultaneously ripped out of their follicles. After the waxing, Rhonda went through and tweezed out any extra hairs that the wax had missed. Altogether, the service took about a half hour or so; I'm not particularly hairy, so it went pretty quick. After that, I figured that I was already there, so I requested an upper lip wax (which was complimentary) and also treated me to waxing the hairs between my eyebrows. I then also added on a chin wax and eyebrow wax, which also didn't take long. The wax she used smelled lovely, and the entire experience was very positive. The total cost broke down as follows: * Totally bare Brazilian - $60 * Chin - $10 * Eyebrows - $17 * Upper lip - complimentary * Between eyebrows - complimentary The prices were inclusive of tax, and Rhonda didn't pressure me to leave a tip or anything (which I will do next time). Rhonda also gave me a sample of the organic lube that she'd gotten in stock, which looks like it'll be fun to test out. I had a great experience overall. Moss Waxing and Beauty Studio stands out not only for the great service Rhonda provides, but also for the attitude and motivation that drive the business: Rhonda strives to make women feel confident about themselves and to make women feel satisfied and familiar with their own bodies. Her body-positive ideology really comes through in her work, and she also did a great job educating me about what exactly was going on in each procedure and how waxing works. Her prices are reasonable and, as I understand it, within about the average price range for waxing services. I'll definitely be back once I'm back on campus again! read more

First time bikini wax, you think it will be totally awkward right? Not at Moss, I went for my first bikini wax ever today at Moss and it was actually.... fun. I made my appointment with Emily, and she was so easy going and funny that it was super easy to feel comfortable with her. And, it's important to feel comfortable with someone who's going to be all in your business! She just made things so straight forward and simple. Her sense of humor made it easy for me to chill out. The place is super cute and clean, also very important. They lock the doors while you are inside so you don't have to worry about any distraction or security issues. If you get there early, you just wait outside on the bench (I was freakishly nervous and shaky thinking about what kind of experience I was in for beforehand). No need to make excuses or be shy, she will make you feel totally comfortable and welcome. I will definitely be going back for some more waxing and facials, etc. read more

Rhonda is fantastic! I was looking a place an eyebrow waxing place when I moved here per a year ago and Moss was recommended to me. I have never strayed! Rhonda is so personable and by only doing one person at a time she really focused in on each person instead of multitasking. She's as gentle as can be expected with wax on your face. I would like to start this review by saying that it does not get any better than Rhonda. I have been going to see her for various services for the last 4 years, and have had nothing but wonderful results each time. As an aesthetician, she is very thorough and gentle, and always produces high quality work. As a person, she is warm and inviting while also remaining authentic, which are qualities that I enjoy in an individual. Rhonda is the kind of person that you can talk to about anything, and it doesn't feel awkward. There are definitely salons/waxing studios out there that offer robotic and mechanical service, which is not my cup of tea, and is why I have been a returning client. I always find myself looking forward to these appointments, because I know I will be truly listened to during this time, and I have never had to worry about a botched eyebrow wax or tint job. Scheduling appointments through Schedulicity (the booking app she uses) has always worked nicely for my schedule, and it is quick and easy to use. What a little gem this is. I drove all the way from Fayetteville to get a Brazilian here. I wanted a place that used hard wax because it is at least 50% less painful than getting one done with strip wax and Moss had the best reviews. The shop is adorable and well lit. Rhonda was very pleasant and I was extremely comfortable with her, and that is no small feat. Being a plus size girl it is not very comfortable for me to be "full monte" in front of a stranger. What a fabulous experience. I had an appointment for waxing today my first time at moss. Rhonda was knowledgeable and made it super comfortable. I would highly recommend seeing her if youre knew to waxing. She used a blue hard wax which from what I understand is supposed to be best for bikini waxing. The appointment didnt hurt nearly as bad as I has imagined. She had a lovely chart on what type of waxing you wanted which I thought was really neat. And...I have to say...I couldn't imagine the experience being any better. As awkward as a (bikini) waxing has the potential to be, I was nervous but ready to go for it! When i arrived, Rhonda immediately made me feel comfortable + provided everything necessary to make the experience comfortable the entire time. Her space is warm + inviting, as is Rhonda. Love Love Love. So I have never had any waxing done before and wanted to do something about my eyebrows. I've never had unruly eyebrows but I decided to finally take the advice of every makeup and beauty blogger/guru/aficionado out there and get them shaped. I have naturally thin eyebrows so there was no way in hell I was going to do it myself and mess it up. Thus I knew I wanted to check out Moss after a lil research. I went and was seen for my 5:40 appointment at 5:41. The minute delay was because her previous client was going to a wake afterwards and Rhonda touched up her makeup before she left. So not only was I totally cool with waiting but was impressed that Rhonda goes above and beyond for her clients. Also I was done by 6:02. I was so impressed with her ability to keep to a scheduled time frame even after I added on a brow tint last second as well. And the price was beyond belief affordable for the experience and results. Rhonda also has excellent bedside manner. I'd never been there before but she treated me like a friend from the moment I walked in the door. And it was all so calm and serene. I am so impressed with the decorating as well. I can only say that I loooooove my new brows. I had no idea my thin straight eyebrows even had the ability to have such a great arch. All of those beauty experts were right I'll admit it. I look so much more polished and even older. Great for a young professional with epic babyface. All I'm saying is I'm gonna be a loyal customer and fan of Rhonda for as long as we both operate out of the Triangle. read more

Met with Rhonda for the first time today. My initial appointment was set up for a date in February, but thanks to an ill-timed snowstorm (is there ever a good time?), I had to reschedule. I went in for a brow wax initially, but after first sitting with Rhonda, she suggesting tinting my lashes and brows as well to make them stand out against my fair skin. I instantly felt comfortable with her, which can be difficult for me (I'm pretty shy). It was my first brow and lash tint, but I'm a wax veteran and I am beyond happy with the results! I'm not about to go around asking my girlfriends if/where they go for bikini waxes, so thank goodness for Yelp, where I found fab reviews for Rhonda and Moss Waxing + Beauty Studio. This was my first time going in for a bikini wax and I'm so glad I went with Moss. I did a lot of research before hand, on the do's + don'ts of getting ready for your first wax--by the time I got to Moss for my appointment, I had freaked myself out about it. Rhonda was fantastic--she did a great job making me feel welcome and comfortable (as comfortable as I could be) during the whole process. I got a brazilian and was a nervous about the whole thing. Rhonda was so friendly and chatted with me the whole time, so it didn't feel awkward, impersonal or clinical. There were definitely a few painful sections, but it didn't hurt as bad as I expected it to. Rhonda uses the hard blue wax, not the one that need a paper strip--supposedly it hurt less than the soft paper wax. The Salon itself is beautiful--very classy and elegant. She's very cognizant of client confidentiality and comfort. When waxing, she locks the door of the salon and then takes you into another little room. It made my feel much more comfortable knowing I didn't have to worry about other people nearby in case I yelled or something, lol. She also does make up, brow tinting and a few other things. One of my favorite things about the salon and Rhonda is the fact that she strives to empower women to recognize and own their body and beauty. She's also working on providing training to other professionals like herself on how to empower women, and to promote self-love and self-acceptance. You can tell she really loves her job and loves helping women feel confident and beautiful. I love the philosophy behind her business! Just went to Moss today and LOVED it!! I went for a "beauty boost" facial and a "totally bare" bikini wax, both of which were the best I've had! I consider myself a salon whore, having had 5 brazilians from 4 different places in 4 different cities... and regular facials from 3 different places. I'm sort of bummed to be moving soon because I just found my favorite place! I think the word I used was "sanctuary" when speaking with the owner about it the decor. I read the other post that went up today, and I was the one who told her that yelp led me to her doorstep. I assume that's why she recommended it to her potential client, and it wasn't quantity that sold me-- it was quality! I also assume yelp took down the first post's mentioning of the "Yes" organic lube samples that Rhonda passes out--- which is way cool and says a lot about how comfortable she is with feminine sexuality and quality natural products! (That's part of what I meant by quality.) The owner, Rhonda, is quite knowledgeable and equally as personable. Despite having my legs spread open in her face or goo from my pores on her gloves... I found her adorable and our conversation refreshing! I was unusually comfortable in an otherwise awkward situation, which is typically thanks to the esthetician (thanks for the vocab help, Rhonda!). Rhonda knows her stuff, too! She uses hard wax, something I've never had an esthetician use before. She said it gets to places the strips can't. She also recognized that some ingredients from my current face products are for old ladies, which makes sense because I get it from my mother's dermatologist! She carries some organic products as well as Cosmedix brand products and offered them to me by explaining WHY they would work better for my personal needs. Something else she said also implied her understanding that clients can feel pressured or even overwhelmed by being sold a pile of products after their services. I almost forgot-- she had my necklace on a cute little ceramic tray over with my stuff for when I was done, made sure I had soothing music the whole time (I hadn't even noticed at all when the playlist ran out and the music turned off), and catered my services to my needs, adding some other complimentary extras I wasn't expecting (which were available as add ons)! The little things make for great service, and I feel like I got all of that at Moss! Basically, she's really good, tries to give you the best service possible, and is obviously pursuing a passion in her work. I'll be happy if this post helps other people have a good wax and/or facial experience too! read more
