Being new to town I was unsure of waxing with someone new since I have my usual wax lady in my old town but I decided to try wax poetic after reading some positive reviews. It's been 3 weeks since I visited Marjorie at Wax Poetic and I can confidently say I will be returning to her and have already highly recommended her. It's been 3 weeks and I have minimal to no hair growth-- I have NEVER had a wax last this long. I don't know what magical wax or technique she used but wow I will not go anywhere else after this great experience. The location is decorated so cute and they have ample parking behind the building. I have been a customer at Wax Poetic for a couple years. I had to cancel an appointment, which was before the 24 hour window and was chastised by Terry and told I was being selfish. I wrote a letter to the owner about this incident, but never heard back. Then I looked at my credit card account which I had on file, and she charged the procedure to my account even after I had cancelled. I will be fighting that charge. Sad to say, I can't recommend this establishment. read more

So glad to have found this place, as it's one of the only spots that does brow tinting in the Triangle. They're reasonably priced ($24 for brow wax and tint) and have a nice, cushy waiting area. Also their service chairs are heated--so you can relax while the aesthetician does her thing. Parking can be a bit tricky, but you can always go across the street! read more

I'm honestly not sure how great the services are at this location. What was disappointing to me was how rude the staff was regarding my cancellation. I called 24 hrs in advance, however the location was closed so I left a voicemail. The reason for my cancellation was my sick child. Instead of offering understanding and working with me to reschedule. The staff sent me and invoice and refused to be flexible even though the circumstances were completely out of my control. I visited Wax Poetic yesterday for the second time and had a very relaxing experience. Anubhava did my brow wax -- she's very friendly and did a great job. For the price of $18 and a reliable aesthetician, I don't see myself going elsewhere for this service anytime soon. I had an hour break between my wax and my massage, and as the weather was miserable, I didn't feel like leaving. The receptionist invited me to make myself at home and gave me the WiFi password, unprompted. After a bit,he informed me that all massages get a complimentary visit to the infrared sauna!! The sauna was truly amazing. It's in a small room in the back, and it was nice and hot, without being overwhelming. Since it's infrared, apparently it is extra clean. I loved it. I could live in that sauna. When she was ready, Sue got me from the sauna and I went to the massage room. I had a 30 minute spot treatment massage. Sue released a lot of the tension in my neck and shoulders and was friendly without being overly chatty - a plus I think in a masseuse. Overall, it was a great visit and I can't wait to return. So I've been here one other time for a facial with Emily and it was great. This past Sunday, I decided to get a facial for myself and one for my mother-in-law for Mother's Day (British). I got a facial with Anubhava and it was surprisingly not as good as Emily's. I think she was pleasant enough but when it came to the extractions, which is the best part of a facial in my opinion, she literally spent less then a minute on it. Also, I had a cystic pimple that she declined to take out because she said she was afraid to do it incorrectly, AFTER admitting that they are all qualified to lance pimples?! I just felt like it was subpar to many other facials I've had in the past. As for my mother-in-law's facial experience with the employee Siobhan, she told me that she said hi to her in the beginning and then DIDNT SPEAK TO HER THE ENTIRE 50 MINUTES. This is terrible customer service in my opinion. I'm not sure why she did that but I was embarrassed to have treated her to such a low experience. I have been coming here for a few months for various services but in terms of waxing I want to shout out Aubrey for being really great! She does my lip and French bikini waxes and she is very thorough, makes you feel comfortable, and as gentle as possible when it comes to a bikini wax. I initially booked her for my first bikini wax in almost ten years and she was super nice and I didn't feel self conscious at all. So I went to get a lash lift and tint, brow wax and tint, and lip wax prior to the pandemic with Taylor. I loved the shop, I tucked into a nice prewarrmed bed with blankets and lovely music playing in the background. Taylor was the most gentle esthetician I have ever gone to and I really enjoyed the experience of being her client. She took her time and made nice conversation. She made it a priority to educate me about how to care for my tinted brows and new lashes. I wish my lashes had turned out a bit more dramatic but that wasn't on Taylor. I have monolids and stick straight, thin lashes. She told me to try and grow my brows out for the next time I saw her so that we could work on reshaping them. She even made sure to show me the picture of a product I had asked about before I left. Little did we know, the next time I would be back would be over 3 months laters. Today, I had a brow wax and tint appointment with Emily Rose (not sure if Taylor is back taking clients post-COVID or perhaps moved on since the shop had to be closed for awhile-- both of which are completely understandable!). Side note: I had an Appt for 3:30, but the day before, realized I could do an earlier time. I went online and scheduled for 12:40 and then called the shop to cancel my old Appt and approve my new one. The receptionist made that adjustment with no problem and she even remembered she had talked to me on the phone when I arrived for my appointment. While there were no warm, cozy beds with blankets this go round (thanks COVID), Emily Rose laid out a new paper on the bed for me before I laid down. She asked me what I was looking for in my brows before we got started. She tinted my brows first and took the time to explain what color she was using and which type of tint she was using and why (LOVE). As she let the color process, she busted out some jade sticks and gave me the most INCREDIBLE face and neck massage. I have never had that done before and when I say I was sent to another universe.... this alone made the entire trip worth it. After she wiped off the color, she wasn't 100% satisfied and so she placed some more color in a few particular places (this really made me feel like she was invested!!). She then waxed and shaped my brows. At the end, I absolutely loved the way that they turned out! Emily Rose was adorable, incredibly sweet and personable. Checking out and paying was a breeze. Everyone I have come in contact with at this shop has been nothing short of amazing. I now look forward to my waxing appointments! I've been wanting to try a Brazilian for awhile and I know that when the time comes, this is the place I will go! And I KNOW I'll have to come get a facial from Emily Rose once it is deemed safe. I loved every part of this experience and I will definitely be back. The absolute best -- with 15+ years of experience, Emily clearly knows what she's doing -- I've visited about 3 or 4 times, and I can no longer go anywhere else. I had a first bikini wax here, and Emily talked me through the process, made great conversation, and I almost forgot about the pain (it wasn't too bad). It feels much less like a trip to a waxing place, and more like a visit with a funny, good-natured friend. The studio is bright and clean, music is good, and the bathrooms are stocked with everything you might need. They recently (I guess?) started their own face products, which look fantastic, and the sample I received at the end for my brows was refreshing and nice. If you're looking for a low key place for a wax, massage, or even a workout, this is the place for you. Note: Keep in mind that they take cash tips only, so come prepared. read more

Having gone to previous people to get my back waxed, I was in dire need of someone who didn't seem to be enjoying torturing me. Tara solved all my problems! The wax was efficient (time wise) and as painless as possible. Compared w/ previous experiences, this was nearly fun! I can't say that I have personally been here but my sister has. I was looking for a place to treat her for her birthday and I set up a mini facial, a 30min massage and 30min of reflexology. They do their booking online which made it pretty easy after a little bit of trial and error. They use eminence products which is awesome. Very natural stuff. My sister said the staff was really great and using her own words, she can be picky when it comes to massages. Also, I booked it online as here separate things and when I called to pay ahead she took a discount off as it was basically a 60min massage. I can't wait to personally try it out! read more

I made the drive from Cary to Carrborro for an eyebrow wax here this afternoon & have zero regrets. To be clear, I spent a little over an hour in the car for a service that took less than 10 minutes and I would do it all again - correction - I plan on doing it again in a month and a half or so. I am not a particularly high maintenance woman when it comes to my beauty regime. There are a handful of things, however, that I am very particular about. The thing I am most particular about is my eyebrows. If you are the same way, you know what constitutes a good one: not taking off too much, going with your arch and facial symmetry, it not being painful and obvious things like not double dipping in the wax (which, sadly, I have seen done). All of those were met, Tara was really friendly and welcoming and knew exactly what I wanted by my very brief explanation and I experienced no redness afterward even on my super-sensitive, porcelain skin. If you've never been waxed by Emily or Tara, you've been doing it wrong! I have never felt more comfortable taking my pants off for (who used to be) strangers. In the past, I'd only experienced strip waxing, which definitely required a few Advil. My life has been changed, and I genuinely look forward to all my waxing appointments at Wax Poetic! Scene: an amazing woman (Emily or Tara) greets you at the door and you walk into a super comfortable room with cool music playing and a self-watering plant tower in the corner. Drop your undies and your stuff and hop up onto an unexplainably comfy chair and chat with who you're pretty convinced is your new best friend as she removes unwanted hair with the hands of an angel. You chat the whole time about anything and everything--life, food, should I get my eyebrows tinted?, boys, movie soundtracks, etc. And 20-30 minutes later, you're equal parts thrilled and disappointed. Thrilled because you've been waxed by a pro and you feel amazing, but disappointed because your appointment is over. Hop back over to where your undies are, pull them on, check yourself out in the full-length mirror that says "you are beautiful," and believe it! You contemplate if you can walk out to your car without having to put your pants on, but are then reminded that there is a police station next door. You reluctantly pull your pants on, pay via cash or Square (super convenient!), and bid your fantastic waxer farewell. Just wanted to update this post to say I am still making the drive from Durham to Carrboro to get my lash/brow tint and Brazilian. Since my last review, I have also tried the lash lift and have gotten a massage. I plan to try the laser treatment next. And am considering lash extensions. I still think they are worth the trip 2/11/19 update- I've had my second laser treatment and wish I had tried it sooner. its the only thing that's made a dent in my hyper pigmentation. Also, I like that you can go about your day with some spf on with very little redness compared to a peel. I also saw Emily Rose for a facial a few weeks after and she was able to get rid of some millia and blackheads the laser couldn't treat. read more

I look for solid medical skin knowledge when I go to a Spa. I want someone who understands the science of skin and Wax Poetic does just that. I have gotten a series of facial infusions at the recommendation of Siobhan and I see a major improvement in my complexion. They help with product recommendations, but never push. I really enjoyed the friendly service and how well prepared they were. Staff was super friendly, place is clean and all around a great environment. However, I was disappointed in the outcome of my lash lift. After a couple of days I noticed that the lashes were way too curled and tangled/clumped together. By fate, I stumbled across Emily Rose. I decided to pay her a visit to get a brazilian. Well let me tell you, she did NOT disappoint! My first experience with her was amazing. She waxed me with hard wax. She was quick, thorough and virtually painless. I would rate the pain at a 3. (I have a very low tolerance for pain. Any other waxer was a pain rate of 7 or 8) She also took care of my ingrowns for me. She educated me on the importance of not picking at them and instead letting her. Her personality also doesn't fall short of amazing! It's like talking to an old friend throughout your whole service. I have been going to wax poetic for their mini facials for the past few years, they are the perfect amount of time (30 mins) and only 25-30$!!!! It really doesn't get much better than that! However, recently I went to their website after not coming in for a while and noticed they have up-charged a ton of their services so much so that now the super mini facial that used to be 30$ is now 62$!
