While I have had relatively good experiences in the past at this salon, consistency has dropped off with my most recent experience. I want to flag that there doesn't seem to be a strong service recovery process in place here. My appointment was with a new stylist, Sierra, who was personable, but several important steps in styling my curly hair after the cut were missed. My sides were over-dried and left uneven, while my crown was still wet. Product application felt minimal, an afterthought, and I wasn't shown what was used during the styling process. After the appointment, I even needed to apply a deep conditioner at home because my hair felt dry from the excessive blow-drying. More broadly, there didn't seem to be much in the way of quality control or accountability to ensure customer satisfaction before leaving the chair. When I raised concerns, I was told the only option was to return to the same stylist for corrections. That approach doesn't feel workable when the issue involves multiple missed basics and a lack of trust in the initial service. read more

Ceremony salon is an amazing place to go to whether you are just getting a haircut or getting a fancy updo! Yesterday I had Sierra for my prom hair. She was so kind, welcoming, and easygoing. I showed her an inspo picture and we started to go in that direction. Later we learned the braid wasn't the move and she was so easygoing and took the braid out immediately. I didn't really know what I wanted instead of the braid, but she had some amazing ideas. Instead we decided to go with a half up half down twist and it was so beautiful. We finished right on time and it was an amazing experience. The salon speaks for itself with its beautiful interior. The hair turned out better than I had ever hoped. Adriane is seriously the best hairstylist I've ever been to! I've always been picky about my hair and usually cut it myself because I've had experiences where stylists either didn't get what I wanted or tried to talk me out of it. But Adriane actually listens and has the skill to back it up! She takes the time to look at any inspo photos and gives thoughtful suggestions that work with your hair type and texture. She's super detail-oriented (makes sense since she has a background in architecture!), but still efficient. I never feel rushed, and the final result is always clean, precise, and exactly what I want/am looking for! She also gives helpful styling tips and uses great-smelling products that actually work! The vibe in the salon is calm and welcoming, and Adriane herself is really easy to talk to. I also appreciate that Ceremony is a no-tip salon, pricing is straightforward, and honestly, she's so good that I wish I could tip her extra! If you're looking for a stylist who's skilled, kind, and genuinely cares about the end result, I highly recommend her! I don't care where I end up living, I'll keep coming back to Adriane for my cuts! My hair was done by Tori Chaffee on August 3rd and paid $270 for the appointment. These photos were taken after, and the results were nowhere near my expectations for a salon of this level (especially since the stylist had 15 years of experience). After I went back to the salon the next day, they did more work to try to fix things, but overall it was a very disappointing experience. I rarely leave negative reviews, but I think it's important to share when an experience doesn't live up to expectations. They did not offer me a refund for any portion of the service and I would not recommend this salon to someone else. read more

She told me she didn't have time to the services I booked for as she was tired from working all week. Despite not having "enough time" she was trying to charged me for a whole hour even tho I was not getting the service I requested. She also wanted to work with another client simultaneously, she told me it was just a "quick trim". This salon is the worst I have ever been to. Horrible experience, will not return. Sara H. agreed to leave as much length as possible on my hair, but cut roughly 4 inches off without telling me. She cut it from waist-length to just past my armpits. When she showed me the result, I told her she cut off much more than I asked for, and she replied "Oh, I'm sorry. At least I know for next time." Like Tessa, my hair is thin and I've been wearing it short since I " went grey" and had it cut up to the color line. Since then, I've searched for someone who might have a vision for what comes next. My haircut turned out exactly how I wanted it. I was going for a 70s modern, Stevie Nicks inspired grace-framing layer look with curtain bangs to give my straight, fine hair some more definition. This was my first ever haircut where I got something other than either straight across the bottom or a U shape, so it was a big deal for me. I had to wait longer than I should've and would've liked for Jeri, but ultimately she did exactly what I wanted so I left a happy customer. I love coming to Ceremony for a cut and color! It's easy to miss the front entrance but it is located a few doors down from One Fish Two Fish. The front of the store is actually a little shop and they sell a variety of highend hair and skin products and some other miscellaneous goodies. Immediately to the left is the front desk and a sitting area with a drink station. My stylist Aylah is amazing and has always been prompt. Prior to getting a color correction, I had a free consultation with her and we discussed my hair goals as well as price and time. Aylah was honest about what colors were realistic to do with my hair type and busy schedule, which I really appreciated! She also gave me a flattering long layered haircut to go with the new color. I've since gone back for a color touch up and trim with equally great results :) I definitely recommend going in for a quick consultation if you are hesitant about anything. Aylah Mayim is the best! It was right before Halloween and I had all the elements of my David Bowie (Ziggy Stardust) costume pulled together. Well, everything except how I was going to pull off the makeup. That lightning bolt wasn't going to draw itself! I had reached out to friends in theatre, friends who go to Burning Man, parents of kids in theatre, and was close to giving up. So I called Ceremony on Wednesday, their receptionist said that she'd check and get back to me the next day. She called Thursday AM - they had an opening on Friday at 3:30. When I went in I knew it would be challenging to recreate the ethereal look/feel that Bowie had developed. I showed the pictures of Bowie that I wanted to draw from and Aylah got to work. It was clear that she got the essence behind the design that I wanted to invoke. I've never had makeup done and she helped me through the rough parts. (Really, mascara sucks!) I have newfound appreciation for the hell women go through. She was amazingly thorough and it was clear from the beginning that I had stumbled my way into an expert's chair. This is a review for TANZI, the nail technician at Ceremony Salon. Tanzi is great! I got what I call "The Weatherman Manicure". For those un-initiated, "The Weatherman Manicure" is the manicure that male celebrities are getting these days. Ryan Seacrest and the like. Basically, it's working on the cuticles, shaping/filing the nail, cleaning underneath the nail as need be, and buffing the nail, so the nail looks like it has clear polish on it, but it doesn't. (I also get a pedicure but with actual polish on my toenails). Tanzi was very thorough, doing an excellent job on my cuticles (they look great now), did a great job in shaping/filing my nails, the high gloss looks great and the hand and arm massage were nice too. In addition, Tanzi is a lovely person. Very spiritual and down to earth. If I weren't moving to Asheville, I'd see her for all of my mani's and pedi's. read more

I've wanted to go super short with my hair for a while now and brought in some pics. She reassured me it would work and wow, the style came out better than I could have hoped. My 13 year old daughter was nervous about getting her very long hair cut short. She wanted to make sure that it looked feminine and cute -- a stylish pixie cut. We booked her for an appointment today on their opening day, and were THRILLED! The salon is located at 300 East Main, underneath the new Hampton Inn in Carrboro, and is designed beautifully. It has an open design, large round beveled mirrors, and wood tones, with a very natural feel. The owner, Rachel, is experienced and professional, and has done a wonderful job setting up the new place. We arrived a few minutes early, and were greeted by a woman who offered us a water or coffee while we waited. Erica was my daughter's stylist. She was friendly, and took time to find out exactly what my daughter wanted before beginning. She helped explain to my daughter how to style her hair, and gave tips for maintenance. I have spent many hours here with my kids who have a variety of hair care needs. We've had haircuts and color changes from purple to blue. They have all been very happy with everything and it's definitely a cool place for teens to get creative or play it safe. They do what you ask and are very nice. The salon stands by its work and cares about the outcomes. We've seen both Mary and Erika and both are great. Mary was kind enough to call us to remind my daughter not to wash her hair a few days before coloring which was helpful and appreciated!! I haven't had my hair done here or anywhere in a long time since I have lost a lot of hair due to illness but if I had it I'd be styling it up for realsies. The only things I would improve is the lighting is very harsh and bright. It can also get hot in here with everything going on. We've only had one appt that started on time so that could be better. Also I would be psyched if they added a self serve ICEE machine. It's still a five star experience regardless. read more
