The second Poppy Salon location moved back to the original building. I wasn't sure about both locations being moved into one or how parking would be, but those were all just stupid little human worries that didn't matter. The salon was easy to find, tucked away in a corner. There's plenty of parking on either sides of the building. Poppy Salon is full of life and individuals with artistic skills. It may be busy inside but the energy is infectious. This isn't a permanent location, however, and Poppy Salon will eventually be moved into a larger building next year. I'm really looking forward to seeing the changes! I personally work with Isabella (Isa) and have been seeing her for over a year now. She is such a vibe and I have so much fun when I see her! Isa is incredibly talented with vivid hair color. I went to someone else in between colorings (yes, I cheated and came crying back) and it was just not the same. Isa is worth the 45 minute drive! Since seeing Isa, my hair has become healthier and thicker...and that's with me always changing my color! Hands down, Isa is THE BEST stylist I've ever been to. Love love LOVE her!! read more

Went in for a 30 minute consultation and with the stylist we came up with an estimated cost and a plan to make my grown out blonde look darker since my hair has damage and I don't want to keep bleaching it. At the actual appointment, the stylist deviated from our plan and gave me a balayage (more bleach), did not add dark dye that matches my roots, and the total cost was $60 over the original estimated cost. Then, they asked for a tip on top of that. I'm sorry, but the extra $60 was intended to be the stylist's tip. Additionally, the stylist insisted that I used a certain product even after I mentioned how it makes my hair fall out. Go there!! I just got my hair done for the first time in North Carolina. It took a while to work up the nerve to try a new place after having moved here last summer. I did so much research. I must have read about a hundred Yelp reviews of various salons in the area before settling on Poppy Salon. I decided to go there because all the reviews are glowing and the prices seemed reasonable. I received a response to my Facebook message to them in good time. They scheduled me with Ki. I went in with Pinterest pictures of red-blonde balayage and highlighting styles. Ki spent several minutes teaching me about the difference, discussing each option, and making sure she knew exactly what color, length, and style I was after. After applying the color, processing , washing, conditioning, and blow drying, she said that she wanted to wash my hair with a purple shampoo that tones down too much yellow. She did that, blow dried, cut, and styled my hair. In all, she gave me 3 hours. I left with EXACTLY what I went there for. I feel amazing. She was ready to start on time, generous with her time, conversational, and talented. She knows what she is doing and cares about you, the customer. The salon is clean and nicely-decorated. The staff are super-friendly and uplifting. They use premium product. The prices are very reasonable. Now THIS is how you run a business! I am a happy customer and will surely be back! I was really looking forward to trying out this salon due to the incredible reviews. We're on a family road trip and since I'm having a birthday on Sunday 7/14, I wanted to splurge a bit on myself and have my hair blow dried professionally. Unfortunately, after a 46 second phone-call to the salon I was simply told by Jenna ( I believe that's what her name was ) " I don't think we have any time ". I confirmed: " you're saying you have no time all day on Sunday 7/14 for a blow out". She said " yes ". I wasn't offered additional options as to other days or times. I, having overgrown pandemic hair went to poppy to get it back into some sort of manageable shape again. It went halfway down my back; I have curly, thick hair. Now it barely goes past my chin/touches my shoulders and is a boring, not modern shape. I feel like an old soccer mom who has let her once smart bob get too long, or a goomba from mario. I am neither. I did not have an exact vision to tell the stylist but conveyed that I wanted to keep the dramatic "V" shape and have it shorter near my face, longer in the back, with lots of layers. Like I walked in with. A lot was cut off before I even hit the shampoo, i didn't think too much of it. The stylist was aware of curl shrinkage and kept saying she didn't want to go too short. I said I wasn't afraid to lose length but didn't think losing so much length meant losing my nice layers. What I have now is a subtle, SUBTLE, C shape. U is too defined, V it definitely is not anymore. It feels very old, not exotic and I can't put my hair in a cute side ponytail anymore, its just too short. Ive cried a few times today about it and its 4am, Ive woken up thinking about my stupid impulse trip to poppy (I called a day before and got in). I could have gotten this basic haircut for a fraction of the price at Great Clips. They charged 56.00 for this basic look. Yes, a few lose strands she hand cut after but the overall appearance is very subtle in shape and not for a young, modern woman. She estimated I lost about 13 inches of my hair! :( not even in an exciting way. Ive also left other places with my curls shinier and more defined, half my head looked kinda "flat." If you have very curly hair be very clear about what you want, with pictures. I dont feel pretty with this haircut at all, rather embarrassed. Ive never dyed my hair in my life and suddenly started looking up hair colors and hair extensions. Probably be hard and expensive to match my curls, so I just have to wait for it to grow. read more

If I could give them 10 stars I would! I have been going to Poppy Salon (specifically Brittany) for over 3 years and have had everything from highlights to balayage to just a hair cut. I have had nothing but a 5 star service for every appointment. Finding a hair stylist (and salon) that understands what you need is very difficult and Poppy Salon and Brittany knock it out of the park every time. I love that I can explain my vision and she applies it in a way that looks good for me and my hair. There are a lot of reviews that mention the price being high - I would argue the prices align with the excellent level of service given. I will pay their prices everyday with the wonderful product I get in the end. Ashley gave me a Deva Cut 'transformation'. I asked for a layered shag on my mid-length hair. But I was extremely disappointed. She poked at my dry curls and cut a little here and there, but there was no consideration given to my wishes, although I showed her a picture and we discussed what I wanted for a style. She agreed, seemed to understand, then did what she wanted. She seemed distracted the whole time. I asked her to leave the length at the ends and she took that to mean leave the thickness alone. I could have given myself a better cut. Not worth the $85 plus tip. In all fairness, she had a good attitude toward the fix-up I asked her to do, although she barely did anything, just took out a little of the thickness in the middle. read more

I didn't mind my haircut at all, it was a reasonable price, and it actually looked very good after I got quite a bit of it chopped off (6+inches). What I could not get over was how aggressive the employees were about selling their hair products and promotion packages. I understand it was December right before the holidays, but pro tip: if your customer is not showing interest then you should take the hint and stop the sales pitch. I was asked four separate times (front desk staff before *and* after my appointment, stylist during the hair wash *and* throughout the styling) to buy or upgrade to various products. If high pressure sales don't bother you, then go ahead and get your hair done here. But if you are like me, and just want to have a relaxing session without having to fend off sales pitches coming from all directions, then you may want to visit another salon. I did not find it comfortable nor relaxing in the salon at all, as the stylist's chairs felt quite crowded together and there were too many customers/stylists crammed into a very small space. Was excited to try out this salon because they had a stylist who does Deva Cuts. Unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. I showed a very clear inspiration photo of a chin-length angled bob on someone with similar textured hair. After the dry cut portion, the haircut looked fine, but after washing, Gabby took off more hair while it was wet and rounded out the haircut (the inspiration photo was *not* rounded). As all curly haired-people know, curl patterns look drastically different when dry vs wet. By the time she was finished with the cut, my side-part was in a strange intermediary position and my hair was at least two inches shorter than what I had asked for. She commented on being surprised by how much my curls had tightened up from cutting 8 inches off from my hair (this shouldn't be surprising, and should have been accounted for before cutting off length!). The final result was a disappointing curly haircut that had little to no resemblance to what I asked for. Rather, it was a drab, rounded bob that makes me look at least 5 years younger than I am (which I don't need!). I had also requested minimal product be used, as I am a wash-and-go person, but in what was likely an effort to hide the disappointing outcome of the haircut, she used no less than 6 different products leaving my hair crunchy and my curls stuck together. I also asked for volume and my hair had less volume when I left than if it had been wet. Gabby did not ask me if I liked the haircut at the end of the appointment, which was odd. To echo a review from another client, I could have gotten this same haircut from Supercuts for a fifth of the price I paid here. I would ask for the salon to fix the haircut, but it's already been cut so short that I don't think there's much that can be done. Would not recommend this salon for curly-haired clients unless you want a generic rounded bob. :( read more

I never post negative reviews but this is a must. This place has a revolving door of reception staff that are not properly trained. An appointment for the same service was scheduled multiple times in the same week. No one in the reception or staff noticed this error and when the day arrives a no show fee is applied along with the beginning of condescending attacks by an angry stylist that blamed me for her losing money. I had no idea what she was talking about. They took zero responsibility for the mistake on their end. The stylist was angry while working with me she did an extremely sloppy job, getting shampoo on my face almost in my eye, ending in getting hair dye on my pants which they did not care about when addressed. Because of their inability to schedule appointments in an accurate way I was humiliated by their management and staff. This salon thinks they're much better than what they are. Salon Povera, Blo and Joule in Cary are real hair salons that are profesional with high level customer service and that most importantly respect their clients. read more

I got my hair done for my wedding by Courtney at Poppy Salon and it was 100% gorgeous! My hair was my favorite part of my wedding, hands down. Ok, the cake was a close second. I had set up a trial appointment a few months ahead of time, and Courtney listened to me and looked at my inspiration pictures. Then she went to work and made magic happen. I seriously can't say enough good things about Courtney. She was lovely to talk with and did amazing work with my hair. My bridesmaids got their hair done by 3 other Poppy Salon stylists (I can't remember their names) and all of them had lovely hairdos that lasted well past midnight (13hrs) despite all our dancing. Giselle did my makeup, and it turned out fantastic as well. I wanted something very natural because I don't normally wear anything other than tinted chapstick. Giselle got it just right. I made an appointment for cut and color with a level 5 stylist and paid level 5 stylist prices. During my appointment, I had 3 different students working on my hair. The level 5 stylist would "pop" over and evaluate what the students were doing, but she spent very little time with me. There was even a 20 minute period that I sat with wet hair while the stylist was busy with 2 other clients. An appointment that usually takes 2 hours took 3.5 hours. This salon is a mad house. It's loud, unorganized and overbooks clients. If you want a relaxing environment and a salon that values your time and delivers high level salon services from the stylist you are paying and appointed with, this is not your salon. read more

Ashley did an amazing job on my highlights! It was the best experience I have had with my hair in years. I had been neglecting my hair (read 6 months without even a trim...) but have a big event coming up and wanted to look good. I brought in some photos and Ashley looked through them with me and took the time to clarify what I wanted and the look we would go for. She took such care and even helped me understand better what I wanted. After a process of highlights, lowlights, and toner, I had beautiful, natural looking blonde hair. Staffs and hairstylists were sorry for what happened and offer to fix his hair after he came back to the salon to tell them his hair is kind of messed up.... Staffs were really nice and scheduled Ashley to fix his hair. Ashley was professional and trimmed his hair even. Got my hair colored today and I am absolutely in love! She gave me just what I was asking for -- an ash-blonde balayage with a dark shadow root! I came in with an absolute mess of hair -- it was blonde at the bottom, strong line of roots and my lowlights were orange from my last stylist's toner! She dyed my top back to my natural brown and basically started over from scratch and took her time the whole way through (even though it was a very long process to color correct) I am in love! AMAZING PLACE WITH AMAZING PEOPLE! I got a balayage with a haircut today and it turned out amazing. Madison, my stylist, sat and listened to what I wanted and helped me with what went best with my hair. They were so friendly (Sarah at the front desk was so kind too, made me feel welcomed right away!). UPDATE: The salon gave me a call after seeing this and were lovely about the situation. They refunded my money and offered to have me come in and have someone (even the owner of the salon) fix my hair on a day when the stylist I had wasn't in so I wouldn't have an awkward run in with her. I will not be taking up their offer of having it fixed because I might have already done a little snipping myself and cried enough over it, but I appreciate the effort they are putting in to remedying this. While the haircut was not what I asked for, the customer service afterward was A+. ----- In terms of pandemic care, they were very safe. I opted to have my haircut outside and never felt uncomfortable. Unfortunately, my haircut by Kaylee was MUCH shorter than requested and I will not be returning because honestly, I hate it. I asked for a bob below my chin (I haven't had hair this long in a decade so I was not used to asking for specific length) and she said she would start very conservative, because we can always take more off. Also, I wear glasses so I could not see what was happening as the haircut happened. When I put my glasses back on, my hair was well above my chin, which is a terrible look on me. It will take at least 6 months to get to where I had originally wanted to get to. It is also terribly layered and instead of modern bob, I look like a 40 year old mom with 3 kids. I'm a woman in my mid 20s with grey hairs that really stand out, but until today, it was never in a bad way, but somehow today's haircut really makes them look terrible. There are multiple pieces I have had to cut myself because they were much longer than the other pieces around them. I didn't say anything at the time because I had not noticed the longer pieces and what was I going to say about the extra 3 inches cut off? They were already gone and it's not as though they could be glued back on. Again, I will never be returning. read more

My 13 yr old son had beautiful hair halfway down his back he'd been growing for the past 9 yrs. He was ready for a drastic change. We visited Poppy at the recommendation of a friend, but I'm not sure why since we now regret it. I showed the accompanying photo to Madison. It obviously didn't matter though because she did what she wanted, ignoring his wishes. My heart sank as soon as I realized she'd lopped off way too much in the front for it to resemble anything like the photo... and still she kept cutting. It looks nothing like what we showed her. She gave him a completely different cut. He was really hoping for something great as his long hair was gorgeous, and he'd been building up a short 'do in his mind for the last year before deciding to go through with it. I've been to Poppy Salon on and off over the years but have recently come back. I got one good haircut there from someone who immediately left, then I got a meh haircut from someone. I went back last week and whew, we are firmly in bad haircut territory. My hair is not the same length on either side of my head. It legit looks like I have two different hair cuts on the left and the right. Here's the kicker: they double book you! During my appointment, my stylist consulted on my hair while literally doing someone else's highlights, like was not even looking at my hair while I talked. Someone shampooed me while she finished and then she left my haircut to check the other person's highlights, left mid blow dry to go wash the other person's hair (while another employee fully blow dried my hair with the wrong part placement), and then she finally finished my hair. I would estimate she spent at least 15 minutes of my haircut that was booked three months prior doing someone else's hair. That is ridiculous! I've been getting my hair cut for more than 30 years and never had that happen a single time. It's not shocking the haircut is bad when she wasn't even paying attention. Like i have had 7 people point it out to me. Zero "your hair looks great" and 100% "is your hair crooked??" I went back to get it fixed and it's still longer on the left and doesn't look at all like the right. She was doing someone else's hair when I got there and left that person to just chill while she tried to fix me. I paid $75 for my hair to look this bad and now need to get it fixed elsewhere, but I'm getting the runaround from management, who confirmed me that double booking is their standard practice! I will preface this by saying I didn't leave necessarily disliking my hair - hence the 3 stars. Not sure why or how this happened, but from the moment I sat down in the chair for my appointment yesterday it felt uncomfortable and non communicative. I was a first time client, new to the area, and thought I'd give this place a try. I wanted to brighten up my hair a bit and get a trim, but not having colored my hair a ton wasn't sure what the best thing to do was (when I called for my appointment I said maybe full or maybe partial highlights, and got quoted $78 and $68 respectively). I showed a picture to the stylist and she recommended balayage. Totally fine, but she didn't tell me the price difference or how much this would run me, and I didn't really get a chance to tell her I wanted some pieces much blonder than others before she rushed off to make up the color solution. Then she just went for it without explaining anything to me or asking any more questions, something I've never had a stylist do. She also worked with me facing away from the mirror the entire time which meant I couldn't see what she was doing or even really talk to her so she worked in silence which was heeeeellla awkward. At one point I asked if she was coloring all my hair cuz I couldn't see anything! I also told her that I had some gray near my part that I wanted covered. She told me not to worry and that she would bring the blonde up around my face so it wouldn't show (she didn't, something I couldn't see because I wasn't facing the mirror till she was done!!). At this point I was running late for another thing I had to do and didn't really want to spend more time or $$ in this situation to get my hair cut so I told her that I didn't want the cut anymore. She rinsed the bleach and put on toner (another added charge that wasn't communicated to me), then gave me the worst blow out of my life (to be fair I was in a hurry, but this was another additional charge that wasn't communicated to me and that I would've rather not had). I get up to the cashier and have major sticker shock cuz the prices were never communicated! Basically I ended up paying a lot for slightly lighter hair in some places and square zero finding a salon I like. The manager did work with me to modestly lower the price because of my experience but overall this was a huge waste of time and money. Never during a hair style have I dealt with someone so uncommunicative and dismissive! I will also note that they offered to let me come back in the next two weeks to fix any color issues. A generous offer, but after such an uncomfortable experience how can they think I would be comfortable coming back and dealing with round two of this?! read more

Shannon has been my hairstylist for the past 4 years.. not once have I left feeling unsatisfied. Since she's opened Poppy Salon the number of hairstylist have grown and remain steady. Each stylist is great at what they do, honestly. I never have to second guess anything in this salon. The atmosphere is laid back, be ready to laugh. Whenever i go to set up my first appointment with a doctor, dentist, salon, etc., i always look for the ratings because i dont want to waste time and end up dissatisfied..Poppy salon, is real 5 star rating for me. I left a message, they respond within 24 hrs, called them to confirm the appointment. It was early 9am and they are open and busy but manage a zero wait time. Courtney is friendly, she made me feel comfortable and did the exact hairstyle i showed her in the picture. They dont charge much, i paid the amount i expected and it was worth it.
