I took kitchen shears to my hair while visiting Durham NC this summer and had no idea what to do or how to fix it. I waltzed into Bella Trio looking like a wild Thornberry and talked to Mrs Cathy up front about how the salon could help me. She connected me with a stylist named Annie, who is so personable and realistic about the shape of my hair and the process of correcting what I had done. I have no words for the outcome of my hair because it's more than I could ever expect! I get my hair done frequently at a posh salon in Texas, and I've never walked out of a salon feeling as confident and at peace about my decision as I did when I asked Bella Trio for help. I've finally found my new salon! After relocating here in 2021, I hadn't found a salon/stylist I really clicked with. I booked with Aaron, after perusing his IG page, and sensing he'd know how to manage my salt & pepper natural curls. I was hoping for a chic bob (the sort I've seen on stylish women my age in Paris). Aaron understood completely, and created the best haircut I've had in years. He also took time with styling my hair, and explained how he achieved the desired results, so I can recreate it at home. I've already booked my next appointment, and booked one for my husband (who also hadn't be thrilled with his last haircut). The salon itself is a beautiful space. Ashley did my hair this time and it was a DISASTER. They offered a redo and she tried to fix but it looked worse than it did before - my hair is now super brassy, damaged, uneven + dry. At that point, I got a refund but am VERY UPSET by the extensive color damage and product on my hair as a result. I was recommended to Bella Trio through my parent's apartment complex as we travel back and forth and I'm not extremely familiar with the area yet. I needed a restorative manicure after destroying my nails by peeling off my gel polish so I set up an appointment. I was scheduled with Ursula and while she gave me a beautiful new manicure, she also genuinely cared about my experience. She made suggestions for colors based on my skin tone instead having me scan the wall for 15 minutes and reminded me to breathe and relax throughout our session. Ursula was a real joy to converse with as well, which is most definitely not always the case. I will be back to see her whenever I am in town for an amazing experience and a little conversation to go with my new manicure! read more

Love coming to this pace for my frequent hair cuts and styles. I use to go to their first location but was excited to hear they were opening a place in Tobacco campus in Durham by DPAC. I immediately made appointment. The receptionist is always friendly and enthusiastic. My hair stylist is Lauryn and love her dedication and hair advice. This was my first time visiting Bella Trio Studio Salon in Downtown Durham and I had a great experience! The parking garage is right behind the salon which is very convenient and the staff is so welcoming. Shoutout to Cyndi who was my hair stylist and did a fantastic job! She consulted with me at the beginning of my appointment to confirm the ideal length of my layers before starting the hair wash and styled my hair beautifully at the end of the haircut. I had about 12 inches of hair chopped off for a fundraising event and the ladies at Bella Trio had volunteered their time to help cut hair and shave people at this event. I thought it was only fair i bring my business to them to get it styled after cutting it all off. Plus it was convenient that they were open on a Sunday - unlike many other salons. The ladies at the fundraiser were more than helpful on getting me an appointment for the very next day. I arrived the following day and checked in. the atmosphere was very calm and clean. I had made my appointment with Latrece, who was very accommodating and nice. The service included a shampooing, cut, and styling. I'm not too picky and i just wanted the cut to be clean and not "dora-the-explorer" ish since my hair was quite short. Latrece did a great job with my unusual request. She managed to make my short cut manageable with or without styling at home (which i love - low maintenance!) and it has a little edge to it so it wasn't too domestic looking. I was very satisfied with the cut and service! I'll definitely be back. It took a little less than 1.5 hours and she was very careful and detail oriented. The whole appointment cost $35 + tip which i thought was very reasonable. Definitely recommend! read more

I write this review with trepidation, as I may loose my spot in line. That said, I can honestly say I have never written a review, nor participated on social media and I feel strongly that Pelham is due of what society requires. Pelham received me at my worst, as a new arrival to NC, but also in the midst of COVID. He patiently advised and took time to not only take care of my personal well being, but the health is my hair. Over the course of the last few appointments he clearly did everything possible to bring me esthetically back to life but patiently walked me thru the process. He, and the salon graciously accepted my changes of appointments due to Covid and made accommodations when they could. This post comes on the heals of literally the BEST HAIR CUT I have ever received. It seems small and at this time inconsequential; I assure you I felt the same. I waited many months to endure what felt like a luxury and so unnecessary. I am typing to tell you it was the lift I needed. It was transformative in Pelham's regard for my wellbeing that has made me feel myself again. I even booked a pedicure for the weekend. Shoutout to Cathy for being a great manager and delivering on her promise of quality. While I can't speak to Bella Trios hair services, their manicures are absolutely sloppy and overpriced. Their color selection is extremely limited by comparison to any nail salon and their manicurists painting/cleaning was extremely disappointing. Super friendly place, and Janine is very sweet, but if you're going in for a wax, make sure you know what you're getting and that she isn't upgrading you to a more expensive wax without telling you. Before moving to the area, I'd always gotten Brazilian waxes with the option of leaving a small strip or taking it all off, just as an aesthetic choice. However, at Bella Trio, they offer a Brazilian (with a small strip left) and a Tahitian (take it all off), and even if you book a Brazilian, Janine will ask you while you're on the table if you'd like to take it all off with no mention of the extra charge. $10 or $12 upgrade, which isn't the end of the world, but it just left a sour taste in my mouth when I realized that it had happened twice. Apparently I didn't look at my receipt close enough to notice on the first visit, but on the second visit this upcharge was paired with a very nice scrub that Janine told me was "About $20" when really it was just about double that, and when I checked the receipt to find out why it was so much higher than I planned, I noticed this "Tahitian Wax" as well... Honestly, it doesn't have to deter you from going here for a wax. Have I gotten better elsewhere? Yes. But is it a friendly and convenient place to go? Yeah! Their hair services have been great too. Just wanted to put out a warning here to be careful if you are going in with a planned budget for your visit and ALWAYS ask if what they are offering will cost more and double check the price of their beauty products with the persona ringing you up at the end. read more

I made a same day Facial appointment at Bella Trio, trying out their spa for the first time. I had their standard one hour facial (they call it a Skin Therapy Session) for $85. So, the price was in line with other high-end spas in the area. I was OK with that since it had probably been a couple years since I'd indulged and I was expecting something great based on that price. I walked in right on time, 2:30pm, and went into the treatment room and had the initial chat about what I would like to focus on. I told Ashley exfoliation and extractions were my two priorities. She left the room, I got on the table and she was back at 2:37pm. She proceeded to give me what felt like a very light face massage with various different products. There was no steam- I have never had a facial without steam to open the pores, especially since I expressed wanting extractions. She probably did 3-4 extractions and that was it. My treatment finished and I looked at the clock to see it was only 3:31. My 60-minute treatment was only 54 minutes. Because they were able to fit me in right when I called, the excuse for cutting my treatment short could not have been because they were slammed. I still left a tip because I know that these employees count on tips and Ashley was a very nice person. But I was not happy with the amount of time and lack of focus on my specific requests, especially since this was my first time at the spa. read more

I went into one of the Bella Trio salons this week and am so disappointed in the outcome. From the moment I walked in I felt like the stylist wanted to go home for the day and was annoyed that I "showed up." I went in for a balayage and my hair does not look ANY different because she did not let my color process. The appointment also ended up costing over $50 more than what was listed when I booked the appointment online. It was due to "gloss" and "opalex." I have no problem paying more for these types of add ons but you should at least let customers know of the up charge before charging them. I also find it interesting because I believe that both gloss and opalex have to sit on you hair at the sink before washed out, which I did not do! Hair appointments take a lot of money and time and this salon was a huge disappointment. read more

I should have known better than to trust someone who's Instagram is littered with curled hair. Curling hair is a great way to hide a lack of skill. I had been Cait's client for almost a year, but during that time I had long hair. When I decided to go for a big cut, I messaged her with pics of what I was interested in. I wish she would have been transparent and let me know a different stylist would be a better fit for a slightly stacked bob. Instead, she cut my hair. I got home, styled it, and realized it was uneven with a drop instead of an angle. We arranged for her to fix it. The fix? Same mess, just an inch shorter. Completely uneven. I cannot believe she let me walk out looking like that. And I tipped her, because I didn't know what else to do. Before I left, Cait asked me if there was anything else I wanted her to adjust. I just needed her to stop taking scissors to my hair. She explained nothing as she cut. I spent my entire Thanksgiving day alone and too embarrassed to go in public. A friend who owns a salon did all she could to fix it, and now it's still super uneven. She said there were layers within layers and it was difficult to even figure out what Cait was attempting. Worse than a Great Clips cut, but over $200 (with color). My heart is broken. I will not be returning unless they offer extensions at no cost. Very disappointing. read more

This is Bella Trio's new, second location. Recently the Studio offered an amazing Living Social deal for 50%+ off of an hour-long Swedish massage and relaxation facial. Knowing how crazy things can get when new businesses offer deals like this, I made my appointment for the service before I even had my Living Social confirmation (reservations are made with your credit card). Some businesses, it seems, always groan a little to themselves when a patron comes in with a coupon, but that did not happen at Bella Trio. Instead I was treated with warmth and kindness, just exactly as I would have expected, had I been paying full price. My Swedish massage (regular price $75 for 60 minutes) was one of the most relaxing I've ever had. I have chronic muscle pain and joint aches, so I get a lot of massages, deep tissue in particular. But this massage was so gentle and soothing that I was vaguely afraid somewhere in my hazy state of complete and utter relaxation, that I fell asleep and started snoring. I was so calm and refreshed afterward, that I just glided on clouds across the hall into the facial room. If you've booked more than one service, you disrobe in the first room and place your clothing and belongings in a big, lined wicker basket. The person doing your next service picks the basket up for you and moves it to the new room, so you don't have to worry about it at all. I really love that. And they've got really nice, fluffy robes here, and these comfortable non-slip spa sandals for you to wear out in the halls. I'd just had a freebie (read: instructional) facial at Posh in Durham and was told---for the first time in my life---that I have acne. The horror! I've not had so many facials in my lifetime---maybe seven or eight---but certainly each one I've had, the instructor praised me about my beautiful skin. Even the owner at a salon in Bavaria that performs medical pedicures and facials and the like (i.e., no waxing, no makeup, no painting your toenails, no frills whatsoever) who told me that my crooked big toe was "deformed" and I needed to see a doctor about it and told me that I needed to have facials more often, complimented my skin. So I shrugged when the Posh instructor told her student about my acne-related congestion in my chin and around my nose, and was sure to mention "acne" on the form I filled out at Bella Trio. The woman doing my facial here was prepared to do extractions because she saw on my form that I had acne, but then there was nothing to extract, so she skipped that part. It's possible that my facial at Posh a month or so ago was just so good (and it was good, truly) that my pores were still clear. But I do like hearing that I have nice skin, even if I'd never think such a thing about myself. You know how it is when you get down on yourself and start to think that you've missed your window and now you'll never be as beautiful as maybe you once were, but you didn't even appreciate it then, so now it's just that much more depressing? No? Is that just me who thinks like that? Anyway, this relaxation facial (regular price $85 for 60 minutes) was extraordinary. My skin looked so fresh and amazing, and the aesthetician---a graduate of our beloved Aveda Institute in Chapel Hill---was sure to use products meant for sensitive skin, so my skin wasn't even red afterward, which is no small feat, let me tell you. Their skin products are from Decleor Paris. The aesthetician ran through all of the products with me afterward, but not once did I feel pressure to buy anything. And she hooked me up with a bunch of free samples afterwards, so I am grateful. So then I was floating blissfully around the spa and was told that Living Social clients may have a complimentary hair wash and style, so heck yes, I took them up on that as well. The cute and trendy stylist also looked like someone straight out of Aveda, and I think my esteem for that establishment has been well documented on the pages of Yelp. All of their hair products, color included are from Loreal Paris. My hair was washed in shampoo meant to smooth and define curls---which it did---and then she also used products for curly hair. Despite the ridiculous humidity that followed the torrential downpour that day, my hair was still beautifully wavy and frizz-free many, many hours later. I do feel that on this visit, I tried a little bit of everything, and I was more than pleased with it all. This new spot does essentially everything that the Sutton Station location does, except for body treatments. They are also not yet set up to do nails, but they will be soon. All told, this is a great new place, very convenient to RTP, so you can stop going to Supercuts on your lunch break, ladies and gents. This is likely common knowledge, but when using any coupon toward your service, be sure to tip 20% off of the pre-discount price of said service. read more

I went here for massage. The massage therapist Josey was great! She's very friendly and consulted with me before getting started. I really liked the lovely touches of putting lavender essential oil on the massage table and having the eye cover when lying on your back. The location is convenient with free parking in the garage. I am a picky, specific, hair-obsessed person (I admit it) and I have never received a better cut, color and highlight before coming here. And I've been to countless stylists in many places and had it all and I am excited to have finally found a stylist I love and feel gives only the very best. I called looking for someone with experience but not at the 'master' price level. I have easy hair to work with but it is flat, long and dark brown and color too often pulls red or brassy. And almost always the stylist has to tone my hair in the end as a result of over-processing. Not this time. The sweet receptionist suggested her and for good reason. She is new to BT but came with several years of experience and the services were priced well. Not cheap but well, well worth the value. She is edgy in her look and young but so so sweet and talented and I could tell from the get go she would only settle with me feeling perfect. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she gave me several options including different highlighting options, price points, etc. In the end she told me to trust her and I'm so glad I did. My highlights were perfect and didn't need a toner. The color was better than I expected. She took her time with my style and went the extra mile to give me volume. And my cut has been easy, breezy and looks great even when it's me styling it! LOVE IT!! read more

My girlfriend and I went for a couples massage. This was our first time doing anything like it so we were a clean slate as far as expectations. It was awesome and we definitely got a full hour. It was hospitable, professional, clean and relaxing. To the Ladies (Girlfriend wrote this part) The massage was great. Heidi definitely found the areas of my back that needed the massage the most, and it was a fun experience to have with my boyfriend for our anniversary. For the Men: I know what many of you may be thinking...what's it like to be massaged be massaged by a man with your girlfriend in the room, or at all for that matter? I was slightly anxious about it too but Garrie was great and I recommend him highly. They come out and greet you and most of my anxiety was gone before we even got into the massage room. Beyond that, it was just like a sports trainer. Yeah, your thigh is going to get touched by a dude, get over it. The only part that was weird for me was the ears. next time I'll probably ask to avoid that (male or female masseuse). For many of the more force requiring massage components (there were some pulls on legs and neck), I was really glad I had a larger strong masseuse that could really put adequate tension on things. read more

I stumbled upon Bella Trio (and particularly Aaron Jarman) when another salon dyed part of my hair dark blue. I was trying to find some place near me to fix it and turn it back to blonde. Aaron not only fixed it, but made it a more beautiful shade of blonde than it had ever been, and fixed my haircut. Since then, he has given me cut after wonderful cut, changed the color of my hair several times in wonderful ways, and has been the best stylist I've ever had. He'll give his opinion if you ask for it, but isn't pushy. I've been growing out my hair, and he's been giving me lovely haircuts while not taking off any length. I have had my hair done here several times and it has been hit or miss each time. My updos have always been cute and since I like a braid Ashley is really good and listens to your ideas. I have also had waxes here and I would recommend Tristan.
