My sister in law came in with me, Leah also made sure my sister in law was involved with our conversation as well. Some places would only focus on the client. Posh is an upscale pricey salon in downtown Durham. I absolutely adore Katie. 5 stars. She's sweet, kind, friendly, and excellent at her craft. She does as you ask and remembers what you asked for in the past. I could fall asleep of relaxation when she washes my hair. My entire church small group goes to her. Everyone loves her and recommends her to their friends! Usually good customer service from the other people there. They typically offer wine or water when you arrive. My only gripe is the price. It's $60 for a haircut ($50-$70 typically depending on the level of stylist you use). That's the same as what I'd pay in the northeast! Woof. read more

I scheduled a consultation, arrived 5 minutes ahead of time, and after waiting 30 minutes, someone else took me to a chair and explained that the person I had booked with was running behind schedule. I'm glad the original stylist was too busy because Aiden did an amazing job. He listened, was knowledgeable, gave me recommendations, and said he'd put the notes in for the person I had originally scheduled with to see and use. I told Aiden I'd gladly schedule my appointment with him. I went back a couple weeks later, had partial blonde highlights, a glaze, and a cut, and my hair looks and feels amazing. I highly recommend Aiden and look forward to my next appointment which is already in the books. read more

Last month, I tried Durham's Posh The Salon for a facial, and I wasn't disappointed! My esthetician, Caroline B., was absolutely lovely! She made me feel so at home and comfortable, and she was full of super-knowledgable information regarding my procedure as well as skin care in general. We talked like we'd known each other for years, and I couldn't have been happier with my visit. I will definitely return, and I highly recommend this amazing establishment and of course Caroline B. Always leave happy, which is a stretch when it comes to hair for me... I want it how I want it. Sydney is great and always answers whatever questions I have about styles, color, products, etc. Not to mention she's honest. I came in over two years ago wanting gray and she was honest saying that it's hard to get the color I wanted and didn't want me to be disappointed. I usually do not like to post negative reviews about businesses but felt that my experience with Posh would be helpful to those who are considering using them for major events. This past weekend I served as the maid of honor in my sister's wedding and there were multiple occasions where posh's styling fell short/disappointed. My mom, sister (the bride), and I used them for the rehearsal dinner & wedding day. The night of the rehearsal dinner, my curls fell out 20 minutes after leaving the salon and my mom had a similar experience. This was frustrating but not nearly as bad as what happened the following day. My sister had done a trial weeks before the wedding (with the same stylist) and the final result was not remotely close to what she asked for/trialed. She ended up leaving in tears and had to get her hair re-done at a different salon. No bride should feel that way on the day of her wedding and hope that others can avoid this stress during their celebration. read more

I tried Posh out on the Groupon they put out a couple of months back. I stopped in for the Pomegranate Mani-Pedi and tacked on an eyebrow wax for good measure. Walking in, I was pretty excited. The salon was spacious, everyone there was super duper friendly, and the place had a friendly, "we work with the community" kind of generous vibe. I walked back to get my eyebrow wax, and proceeded to get... GET THIS.. the most painless eyebrow wax I have ever gotten in my life. Seriously. I have to say, though, that while it was painless, the tech did nothing for the arch in my brow. In fact, it negated any trace of any arch ever being there, and completely rounded them out. That little piece right there explains the reduction in star from 5 to 4. I actually had to go get that redone at my old salon in ATX while I was there because it bugged me so much. The mani-pedi was also fantastic - except for the fact that the jets in the chair weren't working, so I was in a fancy chair with still water. I do understand that the jets don't really do much but add theatrics and a little massage to the feet, and its the soaking that matters, but it did take away a little teensy bit from the experience. Not too much, though, since the colors they had are super rad! I got this awesome silver metallic polish on my fingers and toes, and not only does it look great.. but it has lasted me almost three weeks! That's pretty impressive for me, as I'm a huge klutz who periodically stubs the toe and ruins polish. Overall a good experience - and I will probably go again for a pedi. Maybe not the wax. ;) read more

Cannot say enough good things about posh. This salon is amazing. I have been coming here since it opened. I am a recent college grad and came throughout college. Every stylist has always done an amazing job even when I ask for a new trend like ombré. I see Cathi who is absolutely amazing, but all of the other girls have done beautiful jobs on me, my sister, my mom, my brother and my friends. I also have had my brows and underarms waxed here. They use really high end equipment and wax that leaves me feeling refreshed and not burned like some places. I highly recommend and the price is decent as well. Last race is the facials. I have gotten my hair cut in California my entire life and I have not lived in California since 2009...So this says a lot that I am not writing up a review for yes---a hair salon NOT in California! Right here in downtown Durham, I finally worked up the nerves to get a hair cut, and I was so happy with the whole experience! First, they have online appointments which I love since I don't like calling people unless I really have to ha Secondly, they give you wine or another non alcoholic drink to have while you wait and get your hair done. Third, it is great use of old tobacco loft spaces too which makes you feel like a cool kid even if you aren't. But of course most importantly, my stylist really listened to what I wanted and gave me an update on my hair I got so many compliments on. And the price is right too since I have really thick hair and they still only charged me $50 which is lower than a lot of the other downtown options in Durham. Then my referral to a friend also said she loved her time there too! So Posh, I will be back! read more

Sydney always cuts my hair (and I've been going to Posh since 2014). You can show her any picture of a haircut, and she'll make it look identical. I can't recommend Posh enough, as you get top notch, 5 star attention and your hair looks absolutely wonderful. You can go a year without getting a haircut, come back to Posh, and the staff will remember you like it was yesterday. So I moved here and needed a private room to do my hair for religious reasons. Posh the salon was the only salon that I called in Durham that accommodated my request so easily and happily! I've gotten a few hair cuts there that I've absolutely loved. I recently went for a color change and it turn out pretty bad. I was going from brown to shades of blonde, so it was really brassy. I went back for two color correction appointments, which I was not charged for. Not only that, but the staff was super sweet and understanding and did not make me feel awkward whatsoever for the corrections. I was even told that if this wasn't what I wanted that I should call the stylist back and get it fixed. They really want to make sure you leave happy! I really would recommend this place because customer service means a lot to me. My color may have not turned out exactly how I wanted it, it's actually pretty different than what I requested (but still nice) the overall experience was phenomenal and I would certainly go back. read more

Laura is amazing at haircuts and color. Best hair stylist I have ever met! The salon is doing a great job at taking precautions these days: they provide masks for clients, staff wears masks or face covers, they clean everything in between clients (stations, chairs, scissors, etc.), they don't do hair blowouts, they only shampoo after dyeing the hair, etc. Highly recommended! read more

This salon has everything you need, and experienced technicians, its clean, professional and POSH! But its become almost impossible to book the stylist you want, within a reasonable time frame, that I'm sadly moving my business elsewhere. I can't plan a haircut multiple months in advance, and when plans change, you are set back another month waiting for a haircut. It guess its a good problem for them to have? "We can schedule you to cover it over with something else?" "Is that even possible?" "Oh yeah!" She checks her phone hearing a buzz. "My next appointment just rescheduled." She looks at her watch and does some calculations on her fingers, "We could do this right now? Are you game?" "Yes." And I'm so glad I did! I love my new milder purple highlights and the haircut. I have visited here multiple times for color and they always seem to miss the mark and not really understand what I want (even after showing pictures) they always go too dark or too light. We've always heard great things about Posh. When our daughter was planning her wedding here in Durham, she contacted Posh about sending two stylists to do her and her bridal party's hair and makeup at our house. Seven months before her wedding, she got a rough estimate of what the cost would be. Eight weeks before the wedding, Posh sent an email confirming, and also slipped in a heretofore undiscussed charge. This charge doubled the cost! The day of the wedding when we were paying the stylists, we were shocked at the bill. After the wedding, we contacted Posh complaining about the charge. We never got a response. Ultimately, it was our daughter's fault for not reading the fine print. However, this does have the feel of a classic bait and switch. It's a shame, because the hair and makeup work done was great and the stylists very nice and professional. Unfortunately, Posh's handling of this incident was poor and has left a very bad taste in our mouths. I'm afraid we won't be patronizing Posh ever again. read more

Let's be straight forward, shall we? The good: Kenny is fabulous. He's a joy to talk to, isn't annoying, and does amazing cuts and color. He is worth going to Posh for. You won't get a better blowout anywhere else. So, I put up with all of this other crap BECAUSE I like Kenny so much. **Update: I called today to reschedule an appointment and add color, and Mary answered the phone. She was extremely nice, actually said "bye" when hanging up, and I've added a star in her favor. Snaps for Mary! She's under the good now too. The bad: I've had to complain to the owner because I was once sent home with wet hair because the stylist was overbooked. After my complaint, they sent me a $35 gift certificate and called to apologize. Meh. The ugly: Crystal answered the phone when I called to make an appointment today, and after putting me on hold for three minutes, came back with attitude and a general lack of knowledge about hair. (Ex: I wanted ombre, yet she suggested I get my hair cut AFTER my color... basically CUTTING OFF the color that I would be having applied. Educated choice.) She was generally uninterested in letting me make an appointment and, frankly, wasn't very nice. (I'm sorry, but it is not difficult to say BYE at the end of a conversation.) So, moral of the story, GO TO POSH FOR KENNY. He is the most worthwhile thing at this salon. Or go to Rock Paper Scissors if you're looking to break the bank, and feel a bit less cool than everyone around you while you're getting your hair done. read more

Yeah ... just no. Nope. My hair is a disaster. The stylist I saw was one of the mid-level stylists there. I won't mention her name, since that's tacky, and I'm sure she has given some good hair cuts. Maybe. I told her to make my hair short, but not pixie-cut short. I even showed her on my face where I wanted my hair to fall. I took my glasses off and let her have at it. I've really never had a hair cut I hated, so I figured she couldn't do too much damage. Well, when I glanced in the mirror, I was shocked to see she'd cut off most all of my hair on one side. Couldn't go back now, I figured. Eff it. I rocked short hair for MANY years, and it was super cute. Lo and behold, she gave me a pixie cut. An uneven pixie cut that looks like my head has been run over with a lawn mower. I tried to like it. I thought maybe I had not told her the right thing. I thought maybe with the styling I could get it to look right. NOPE. Train wreck. Train. Wreck. The stylist picked up on my not liking it, and I told her to even out the left side. Well, she did try to fix it some, but it still looks like someone took a weed wacker to my head. She then got a little pushy and kept telling me she wanted to fix it. I just wanted to be anywhere but there, so I tried to dip as quickly as possible. I'd post a picture but you wouldn't want to see. My husband says I look like Kate Gosselin. But he's wrong. Her hair, when short, looked way better than mine does now. Getting this shiz fixed tomorrow -- at a different salon. read more

I really wanted to like Posh. I recently moved to NC for grad school and was in search of a new home for my hair so I tried Posh because it was close to home and welcoming. The first visit was okay, not terrible, but I thought I would stick with Posh and just try a different stylist. The second visit was horrible. I really can't remember when I had my hair this poorly cut. Not only did I lose almost 4 inches of my hair, my hair looked chopped, and the stylist hot ironed my hair while it was damp. This left my freshly processed hair extra fried at the ends. Now I need another haircut to fix the poor cut and my hair is already too short by my personal standards. Really if you read over the reviews on this site and feel pressured for time and just want a hair appt dont go here. Trust the reviews and go elsewhere. read more

This salon's fairly new and has only been around for about a year I believe. I first heard of it when I was looking at some units at West Village Lofts and the woman giving me a tour told me that a great new salon was in the process of being built on the ground level of one of their buildings. A few months later, when my hair desperately needed some maintenance, I decided to give this place a try. When I first came in, the first thing I noticed was how nicely this place was decorated. Like all great salons, they offer you complimentary drinks while you're getting your hair done there - and yes, this includes beer or wine :) And as a few of the lovely ladies at the salons have said - it's never too early for a drink! They also offer other services such as pedicures, manicures, waxing and facials. I would also recommend that you check their website before making your appointment because sometimes, they have some really great specials on certain days of the week. Their prices are really affordable considering how nice their salon is and if you are going there to get your hair colored, I would definitely recommend Kayla. She is great at coloring hair. Most stylists are afraid to deal with my Asian hair, thinking that the slightest amount of bleach will make it fall out, but Kayla knew what she was doing and did it in record time. Bleaching your hair can be a long, painful process sometimes, especially with brunettes, but she did it fast and she did it well. This salon serves a wide rage of clients, so I'd definitely recommend that you give this place a try. The location of this salon is a little hidden, so keep your eye out for it. read more

Getting a haircut here was a lackluster, impersonal experience with mediocre customer service. It was a flashback to my middle school Supercuts days. It's a huge salon, where you feel like you've been put on the hair cut assembly line. They rush clients in and out with little personal service, right past the shelves full of boring hair products which they lamely try to sell you. The stylist I saw seemed uncomfortable with being a hair stylist. She had trouble making small talk and she also didn't seem confident in her hair styling skills. At one point she complained about how much work it was to blow dry my hair, something along the lines of, "you have a deceptive amount of hair, this is taking forever," etc. Insulting my hair isn't really going to make me want to come back to the salon. At least she did make the effort to stop and ask me how I liked the haircut before cutting off more, I will say that I appreciated that. My blowout didn't last very long, though, as I got my hair cut in the evening but had to wear it up the next day because it was frizzing up so soon. (Good blowouts will generally last me at least a day or two.) Having washed it and styled it myself now, I'm not thrilled. It's no Triangle Poof ...but it's just boring and ho-hum, with layers in weird places. Anyway, all this is to suggest that some customer service training and more practice with the blow dryer could probably go a long way for the employees of Posh. If you have higher-maintenance hair or like a more personal touch, I would not recommend this hair salon. read more

Depends on the service you get. I used to live right above Posh Salon and as a sucker for discounts received a variety of services: cut & color, wax, facial, pedicure. My experiences were disparate, but overall below average. The cut and color were the WORST! My color was so messed up that I went to another salon to get it fixed and the cut was mediocre. What a waste of money. Wax: typical, not great or awful. Facial: good. Pedicure: excellent in 2010, though looking at more recent reviews they must have hired someone else. The person who I had gave me a long and lovely massage with each pedicure. She was quiet, which is fine because there are magazines to read. read more

Finally! A forever stylist. I see Laura at Posh and she not only styles my hair well, but gives me great advice on products, tools, how to ensure my hair is healthy, and how to color it for when I am ready. I've lived in the Triangle area for 10 years and have been seeing Laura for the past year. When I first started seeing her I was unhappy that my last stylist at another salon had cut it so short. Laura made the experience positive and helped me see the positive side of being able to come back regularly for trims to ensure I would have long healthy locks. I can show her pictures of styles I like and she asks me what I like about the style - and she gave me great tips on parting my hair differently to make it look slightly different vs. having to cut it a particular way. And for the introverts out there - I used to dread going to get my hair cut, b/c the thought of making small talk for 45 minutes made me cringe. You won't have that experience with Laura, she'll tell you stories and keep you engaged as much as you want without making you feel like it is small talk. The establishment is great and the staff are very friendly. When I go to Posh the decor, the energy, etc., contributes to the experience and I'm not just "going to get my hair cut." I am extremely happy that I discovered Posh! Finding a place to get a stylish, modern haircut at an affordable price was a priority for me when I moved here six months ago. After surveying my colleagues and neighbors, I discovered that the people with the best-looking hair all go to Posh. This was all the evidence I needed to try out the salon. Posh has great ambiance. The space, which is an old tobacco warehouse, is decorated nicely and is clean. Upon arrival, the staff is friendly and they always offer me a beverage (they even have alcoholic drinks if you're in the mood). The entire staff is great, but I always see MEREDITH. She listens carefully and her attention to detail is incredible; as a result, I always walk out of the salon loving the way my hair looks! I recommend trying Posh--you'll probably go back. P.S. Now that I am a regular, I have learned that the Posh team prides themselves on being active members of the community. Today was my first trip to Posh and I was really excited to try it out. I first heard of Posh when they helped sponsor the Doughman and recently a friend of mine had her wedding hair (and nails) done at the salon. My favorite stylist just moved to Posh and so I knew what to expect with my cut and color. Kellie never disappoints ;) Posh is much bigger inside than I expected with room for atleast 15 stylists. The receptionist was very helpful and friendly getting me a tea to sip while I waited and then checking me out at the end. It was a Saturday and the salon seemed busy but not packed. Everything seemed clean and well maintained, including the bathrooms. No complaints here! (Also, three cheers for a very accessible space. Love the ramp and large, maneuverable bathrooms!) read more

Every now and then you get a haircut you don't love, no big deal. Well, posh surpassed my wildest expectations and gave me the worst cut of my life: thick short bangs starting in the center of my head and ending well above my eyebrows. It's hopeless. I should note that this was my second effort to like posh. I previously received two lackluster but not terrible cuts from another stylist. I thought the upgrade to "master" stylist would yield a better effort. All I ended up with was a whole lotta bangs. You're paying for real-estate with this joint not quality hair care. read more

Five glittering rainbow stars!!! Scheduled an appointment with Maryn (insert heart eyes) for some color and to fix a haircut-gone-wrong I had elsewhere. I have curly hair and can verify to my curly hair sisters who are controlF-ing this page for the word "curly" that Maryn knows what's up. She cut my hair semidry and took note of curl families, curl direction, etc etc and did a bang up job. As for the color: I had some balayage done about 6 months ago that had grown out and I wanted to move back towards my natural color. She took time to listen, asked questions, then mixed straight up perfect color for my hair / preferences and I love it. ALSO she taught me so much about my hair and is nice and gave me wine so really what else could you ask for? read more
