A wonderful Salon, and super nice people working there. I'd recommend them all. I have never had anything like this happen to me in my life. The front desk lady cut me off while I was asking how much the total of my bill was and what the charges were to sign in another client. She told me I could not see the charges until after I paid (apparently they are listed online which I wasn't told but they have no way to tell you charges when you check out). I got a call from the manager later who I believed would apologize for the confusion and rudeness of the employee. I didn't call back because I wasn't thrilled with how I was treated. I just tried to make a new appointment months later, and I was told I was "more rude than I thought"(?) and would no longer be able to get my hair cut there. I think they should review the politeness of their front desk staff who had me wait for 5 minutes after I arrived to check me in as they were on a phone call. I feel they were incredibly unfair and rude to me. read more

I am always excited to visit Wisdom! She has cut, colored, and styled my hair for almost a year now and I continue to tell everyone how wonderful she is. My hair is naturally curly but in the cooler months I wear it straight more often and Wisdom has cut my hair for both straight and for my curls. She has brought out a new life to my curls taking out weight and allowing them to really show off their best side (if you have curls you know there is no controlling them). She listens to what I want, looks at pictures I like and gives suggestions. She has told me if something does not work and I am glad! I am in love with this salon! All of the workers are so welcoming, friendly, and everyone including the salon gives off a hipster vibe. Kevin is the only person I trust with my hair. He always does a beautiful job with color and cut. I have black hair, and it's hard to find someone that can color dark hair well, and Kevin does a phenomenal job in doing so. His personality and energy is always happy, positive, and he is very fun and down to earth. Kevin is also very good at explaining everything that he's about to do so that you know whats happening. I look forward to our appointments and time goes by so quickly with him. A couple of perks of this salon is that they offer you water, coffee, and red or white wine. Also, they provide free parking on the weekends and the lot is right across the street! You will have to ask about the weekday, I'm not sure how it is then because I've only gone on the weekend. The music,art work, beams, and brick walls creates a hipster atmosphere. And again, all of the employees are awesome. I have been going to Angela since I moved to the area in 2011 and I wouldn't let anyone else touch my hair! Sometimes stylists are better at cuts than color, but Angela is the full package- making magic happen with my lovely red color and long thick/course hair. She is a master at knowing what shape works best with your face or you can bring in photos and she will cultivate art for you. She got all the brassiness out of my hair and gave me this beautiful dimensional purple/blue look that should fade to silver in a few weeks. She's great and her prices are actually a steal. This salon will require a small deposit to book which is fine but when my appointment was cancelled because my stylist came down sick, they offered to switch me to another stylist available about an hour later. Totally understandable situation but when I asked if they would honor the same rate (original rate was $5 less) they refused to do so. I didn't think it was much to ask considering it wasn't my choice to change and it caused an inconvenience with my schedule but the manager said he was unable to accommodate. I'm sure there's plenty that goes into those restraints but the inflexibility after I was being more than understanding and moving around my schedule was really disappointing. Just overall bad business practices and I recommend you be aware when booking here. read more

Everyone is so incredibly welcoming and attentive and treats you like a special guest! I absolutely love how the stylists literally sit down across from you and intently listen and talk through what you're wanting to achieve - I didn't feel rushed or like I was being a nuisance, and I've never felt so calm going into a big hair change as I did today. I have medium/light brown hair and I was going to attempt to lighten it again - even after countless promises to myself not to do it ever again due to the disappointment and/or damage it caused. I showed her a ton of pictures starting with what I didn't want and what I hoped to achieve. She truly understood exactly what I envisioned, which was ultimately a very natural Balayage. The man at the front desk was warm and personable. The first thing that I noticed about Wisdom was that she was interested in getting to know me. She sat down next to me and we had an actual non hair related conversation. There was never a time where I felt uncomfortable or intimidated. Something that I have always felt at other "cool girl salons". She listened to my concerns, she told me about each product that she used but never made me feel that "I have to buy this now". Had an exceptional all-round experience at this new salon. I was greeted with the option of wine or coffee. The coffee was on point! I relaxed for a few minutes to some very chilled music as I looked out the large windows at the Durham streetscape. Then Katie walked me through her classy industrial space - with i-beams, pipes and aged brick walls lined with local art. I would follow Danielle to the end of the earth but luckily I got to follow her to Culture Hair which is a great new salon in downtown Durham. The staff is always incredibly welcoming and the studio space has the wonderful loft feeling that I love about durham. I would say you probably couldn't go wrong with any of the stylists here but if you are lucky enough to see Danielle you are in for a treat. Not only is she a great person but she is crazy talented! Whenever I am unsure of what to do - her suggestions are perfection.
