David is always very professional and interesting to talk to. Does a great job with color

I wrote a review under my husband's (Luke C) account already. Lynne is wonderful. I have been late a few times and she is so accommodating and patient. Put simply it's a technically great cut from an experienced hairdresser without the superficial conversations and hard sell on products. I always walk out feeling that my hair is bouncing and people are admiring. read more

I went by DB Sutton & Co this morning for a haircut and was very pleased! The salon is very clean and decorated in a "modernist" style. I was seen right on time and was lucky enough to have my hair cut by the owner! I was offered a beverage of choice which was nice. The haircut went quickly and Mr. Sutton is an excellent conversationalist. I have never really had much opinion when it came to hair styles so I went with his recommendation. I think it turned out great and have received many compliments (so far: my girlfriend has yet to see it.) The increase in price over an in and out type of salon is worth it because of the amenities and customer service. Highly recommended! I have tried countless people and salons in Chapel Hill and, until coming to db sutton yesterday, have been traumatized by every other experience I have had in my haircutting ventures in this town. David is flawless with his technique and artistic vision as well as a wry conversationalist. The lighting and ambiance makes one feel in a timeless state. THANK YOU for your ability and bravo on making this one happy (and forever returning) devotee. read more

Lynne has been my (Luke's wife) hairdresser for almost 3 years. After getting random people at Mina's it was great to have a person who was experienced and able to give an opinion about what suits me. She is willing to try new things depending on how adventurous you are. I hear she is great with hair color. She's also a really nice person - no fake conversations. I have been late a few times and she has been really accommodating. read more

I can hardly wait to get back to Chapel Hill and get a cut from David. My hair is never as easy to manage or as beautiful as when he does it. Just no comparison to other cuts! read more

I used to get cheapie haircuts, but my wife convinced me that a good haircut is worth the extra expense. She was right; I've been going to David for haircuts for seven years and there's no doubt about it, I look much more like a responsible grownup than I used to before. David invariably does a great job on my hair and he's great to chat with as well. He's not cheap but he's worth it. I recommend DB Sutton wholeheartedly. The recently added wine shop is a nice bonus! read more

Ti at DB Sutton saved the day for me and my daughter last week. Another salon was unable to fulfill my previous scheduled appointment, and at the last minute, Ti made my daughter feel and look like a princess. The front desk staff was professional and kind, and the salon environment was calm and comforting. My daughter walked out with the most beautiful curls that last all night for her very special occasion. Me and my three daughters will be back. Thank you! read more

I had an appointment with David himself, going from blonde to brunette. I really wanted to like this place but I've got to say I was really unhappy with how it turned out. I went in and waited 30 minutes for him to finish his other client, even though I was on time... whatever, no big deal, luckily I was free all afternoon. I told him I wanted to go from blonde (heavily dimensional, so I'd booked for a double process to help dilute some of the highlights) to a medium mahogany brown. David immediately got pretty nasty with me - "uh, so what exactly do you want? because I have no idea what you mean by 'medium mahogany brown. do you want red highlights, do you want dark brown or what?" First of all, have you ever seen mahogany wood? Of course I want red in it... I asked, a little rebuffed, to see a book of swatches so I could show him exactly what I wanted. In a huff, he got up and just dismissively told me he'd figure something out and find a swatch he thought would help him make sense of what I was saying. Jesus, dude, I think I was pretty specific about the color, and if you were a little more accommodating I would have showed you myself. I dye my hair frequently so I'm pretty knowledgable when it comes to knowing what I want - the swatch he brought out was a little dark but god he PUSHED and PUSHED for it, insisting that the darkness would help to mask some of the highlights in my hair and bring it down to more one solid color. Okay, whatever, you're the professional, if you think that's going to work I'll let you try it. He gets to work with a single process (not what I booked, but again, he's the pro...) and just sort of treats me like a child the entire time. He was bossy and rude during our conversations, interrupting me all the time and frequently chastising me. I'm 22 so I get that I'm not an older client but I'm not 13, please don't speak to me like I am! Eventually I just stopped engaging him in conversation. My hair was moderately damaged from the previous blonde work I had done, and when the color was washed out and he was blowdrying my hair, he didn't add anything to it to make it more manageable or less rough - and when it was finally dry, it was straw-like in texture. They charged me for the double process, saying I had to pay for the time they'd booked out for him, as he waltzed into the backroom to relax for the remainder of the time I was paying for. Two days later, after some of the color had faded out, what do you know! Streakfest from those highlights he INSISTED the single process would cover. All in all it was a waste of money to be treated poorly. David was a jerk and I was totally unimpressed. read more

I am still so happy I finally found Rachel, a great hair stylist at d.b. sutton & co.! She just went out on maternity leave, but will be back in April. She is the only person I trust to give me an honest, experienced opinion on what to do with my hair. And I'm more than willing to pay a little extra for that expert consultation. I hate going to places and asking for a stylist's advice, and they have none or give you a bad 'do for your face shape or hair texture. With Rachel, you will not have this problem. She is just fantastic! I also love Bumble and bumble products. I almost don't want to write this review because I have a hard enough time getting an appointment with Rachel already. Also, if you can't see Rachel, try David. I've also heard good things. read more

OK - here is the story... David Sutton's training and creations are the best. His shop is beautifully decorated and very clean...service superb. I hesitate to go into the details of the other salons I visited before finding DB Sutton. I can tell you that the people that work WITH and not FOR David seem to be very happy. The overall energy in the salon is supportive and positive. I couldn't ask for a better salon...period. Besides the cut - my new color is by far the best I've ever had. I moved to Chapel Hill from the San Francisco Bay Area --- where there are many fine salons...world class, actually. David's establishment is on par with the best --- in some ways he actually leads the pack. I felt from the moment I walked in -that I was like a friend who has come to visit. Very friendly and accomodating.....offering to feed your meter!! - -COME NOW!!! When it comes to trusting your appearance to your hair dresser - go to David or any one of the other stylists. 10 star rating from me. Oh yes - the entertainment factor puts them over the top!!! read more

I love db sutton & co not only because owner David Sutton makes my hair look terrific, but also because the salon is just a friendly, hip, welcoming environment. I have loved getting to know the other stylists, running into people I know and meeting people I don't. To have a salon that can be both elegant and homey at the same time is really special. read more

Tanzi gave me an excellent pedicure. Not only was the pedicure itself enjoyable, but our conversation was equally interesting. Tanzi goes the extra mile to hold a meaningful conversation with customers. Such customer service is becoming increasingly rare these days. read more

Love this place! Great atmosphere, charming employees, excellent service! They use really nice products too!

All hairstylists are NOT created equal--in fact, most of them out there are really shitty. I was reminded of this when I made the biggest mistake of my young adult life and had someone other than Rachel from DB Sutton & Co. cut my hair yesterday. I recently moved 300 miles away and decided it would be a good idea to find a new stylist--so so wrong. This girl had the best reviews on yelp (thanks a lot people) and came from a reputable salon, but no one is as good as Rachel. Seriously. She has more natural talent than anyone I've seen, but more than that she has had extensive training that she actually uses! She works at fashion week, for Christ's sake! A big shout out to David Sutton too (the owner of the salon) who's cuts are classic, glamorous, and insanely high quality. This man is a god. I have been to salons all over NC, VA, and now DC, and this is as good as it gets. I will be traveling the 300 miles every 6 to 8 weeks to see Rachel because this is the best salon out there. Period. read more

I'm new to town and wasn't sure where I should get my hair cut. Someone told me about DB Sutton & Company, and I'm glad they did! The salon is beautiful inside and everyone was very friendly. Patrick cut my hair and he was nice, professional and did a great job. I get compliments everywhere I go! I would recommend Patrick, and the salon, to anyone. read more

I have short hair and i'm trying to grow it out. I've had three "interim" cuts in which no one listens to me and i regress about 6 months of growth. I walked into db Sutton today and asked Spencer to please just shape me up a bit and help me move toward getting back to long hair. She not only listened, but totally embraced doing little to do a lot. Love her. Will go back again. read more
