They were both excellent beverages that were not to sweet with great flavors. Their hot food doesn't start until 10am, which was very unfortunate as I wanted to try their spam breakfast sando. Came to Malaya to support a Filipino small business and did not disappoint, the menu is definitely catered to showcase nostalgic Filipino flavors. I ordered, the Pandan churros, Loaded Fries, Malaya chicken bowl, and Pandan Matcha. Absolutely delicious, everything was seasoned well and the Pandan matcha reminds me of Buko Pandan OG desserts. Vibes and ambiance were immaculate, the fries were pretty great, the drinks not so much... We ordered the Matcha Pandan and Caramel Banana Latte. Both drinks were milky and didn't have the flavor we were expecting. The matcha didn't really have a "matcha" taste and the Pandan was very faint. The caramel banana was also lack luster and was missing the banana flavor. It was pretty much just a milky caramel latte. For around $8 a drink it was disappointing. The fries on the other hand were amazing, great texture and really good seasoning. I'd highly recommend them! Overall, this branch is still quite new. I understand that they're still figuring things out. I hope they improve and grow as the location and ambiance is pretty great. read more

I randomly found this place on social media. It is a brand new spot and hoping to see it bloom. I received wonderful salutations by the entire staff upon arriving. The place is open and a nice relaxing ambience to study out doors. Spacing is available. I ordered a caramel banana signature latte along with a banana. Matcha and the staff member recommended me the spam breakfast Sando. I waited about 5min or so for the items. The food selection was very tasteful and delicious. The drinks were fantastic. Please be mindful, it is a new spot and still working up any quirks necessary to be able to fulfill service. Overall, I really enjoyed it all. I will be back with family soon. read more

I ordered a strawberry matcha with oat milk ($8) and a plain matcha with whole milk ($7). We came right when they opened at 9am and were the second party in line, but somehow the two parties behind us still got their drinks before we did, even though our order was relatively simple compared to theirs. It was frustrating watching more complicated orders come out first while we kept waiting. The strawberry matcha tasted more like strawberry Nesquik milk with a green color added rather than an actual matcha drink. It was overly sweet, and the matcha flavor barely came through. The plain matcha unfortunately wasn't much better. It was unsweetened and pretty bitter, but at the same time neither the milk nor the matcha flavor really stood out. Overall, the drinks didn't feel worth the price, and the long wait for such a simple order made the experience even more disappointing. read more

Didn't like this place as much as I thought I would... I could barely taste any pandan in the pandan latte, and I was hoping the pandan churros would have pandan in the actual dough, rather than just being regular churros with pandan-flavored syrup drizzled on top. The wait was also super long - though, to be fair, I came here during the soft opening, so it was pretty busy. Overall, the coffee was underwhelming, and the cups are pretty small for what you're paying imo ($7.50+ each). read more

my favorite in arcadia! super consistently delish drinks (other places espresso drinks can be hit or miss) and the food is so good. their lumpia is always freshly fried! you really can't go wrong with either a matcha or a latte. not overly sweet as well and focused on more natural flavors than artificial tasting. love that they have unique specials as well and can't wait to see what else they bring! everyone is always so nice as well and lots of space to sit outside :) read more

I love coming to this place with my girlfriend every weekend! The food is so great I love the lumpia and ensaymadas with the ube matcha. The service is always friendly and welcoming especially Marc love that guy. They have open seating and is just a nice place to hangout with loved ones and eat some good food. Really happy to have another coffee option locally! I am hoping they take some of the feedback to improve because they do have elements that could make this spot great but currently I would say there are a few areas that could improve (I'm glad other reviews have noticed similar things). We came on opening day and saw the owner and his family and I'm always happy to support local spots owned by local families so I really don't want to tear this place apart. When we ordered the cashier was a little disorganized and unsure of details and I get it, first day jitters, maybe not trained super well. We got the banana caramel latte and I think the mango matcha? The cups were a little too full so the drinks were spilling out a bit and also the straws were bad. Felt like they skimped or opted for cheaper options for the straws/cups/lids which is something I normally wouldn't even notice but I'm so used to the open sip top lids that most coffee places do now. With the lids they have here it covers the creamtop and just leaves an overall less-than-optimal/awkward drinking experience. It does matter when 2 drinks are $16+. The straws bent super easily so our initial impression was of our drinks spilling everywhere, the straws bending instantly, and I awkwardly was licking the lid to try the creamtop. My wife mentioned the matcha was bitter/too grassy which maybe some prefer but I think it turned her away from wanting to get matcha here in the future. My drink was very sweet, something I don't typically like with coffee, I'd like to be able to taste the beans or other notes. As others have mentioned there was almost no banana flavor, just more of a caramel sweet taste. We also got an ensaymada and it was fine but nothing spectacular, I wouldn't get it again for $6.50. Bottom line: Arcadia has had a lot of great spots open up recently and I hope that they have continued success so we can continue to have lots of great options for coffee and food. I am willing to give Malaya another try because they're super close to my house but a lot of small inconveniences led to our first impression being less than great. If you care about the quality of your coffee and coffee beans, then this place is not for you. Tried their pandan latte with almond milk and you can barely taste the coffee. The latte was very smooth; however, the texture was all from the almond milk. I can only taste a hint of coffee. The pandan flavor was very weak. The latte was also on the pricier side ~$8 for the size and quality of their coffee compared to other well established local / mom&pop coffee joints. Definitely on the sweeter and milkier spectrum of coffee beverages but delicious if you're looking for a caffeinated sweet treat. Customer service was excellent. Stopped by the Malaya Grand Opening today. It was packed. Tried the Spam Breakfast and Lumpia Crunch Sandos, and the Malaya Chicken Bowl. Also ordered the Malaya Signature and Ube Creme Lattes and traditional ensaymada. The coffees were smooth and not too sweet. The ensaymada was super buttery and sandos were delicious. Staff is very friendly and even cut the sandwiches in quarters for us. The chicken bowl, although tasty, was the only thing that didn't leave an impression on me. Drinks were good, got the Signature drink and the pandan flavor, not too sweet which is good. A little pricey for the size of drink. Got the ensemada too which was fluffy and good! Lots of parking and seating is outdoor, and in same location as the old Bentoya. Service though sucks, they made us wait for 2 drinks. In between making the 2 drinks that we ordered, they made their signature coffee for their friend that came 2 people behind us, and served it to him right infront of me! i got the signature latte and usually i get 50% sweet at every cafe i go to but forgot to this time. it wasn't too sweet but just a tad bit too sweet for my liking so usually i will purchase another shot when drinks are too sweet. however this time, when i asked for another shot, they offered to remake it without being prompted to, which was so incredibly sweet. lots of outdoor seating and parking. studied for a bit here and they had really chill music. i would definitely come back to try their matcha. 10/10!! read more

I was excited to see a Filipino inspired coffee shop but was extremely disappointed with my experience. I had an event to attend in the area and arrived early so decided to try this place out to kill time. I ordered a Malaya signature latte and banana caramel latte. However, it took almost 30 min to get my order that I was now going to be late to my event. The worst part was after waiting that long, they messed up on the banana caramel latte order. When I asked them to fix it, they said they would not fix it right away and I had to wait for all the other orders to get out (there prob was at least 5 orders after me). How was that right? It was their mistake. I could not wait that long since I was already going to be late to my event so I left with the messed up order. During my wait I observed several customers who came before me asking for the status on their food and/or drinks. Perhaps it's because they are new that it's slow, but definitely be prepared for a long wait. The bright side though was that the signature latte was good (hence two stars). read more

Drinks were okay, there was little to no dairy free options and when I customized a drink by taking out almost half of the ingredients they charge me full price, plus a milk up-charge. The customer service could also improve immensely. The over all vibe was cute and tropical. read more
