I wanted to like this place cause it's a Filipino owned small business but the drinks were lacking. Matcha isn't made fresh per order and is poured from a squeeze bottle that sits on their counter. The Americano was lukewarm and watered down with no hint of espresso. Food looked good but the lumpia is frozen and not made fresh. There also appears to be a disconnect compared with their LA location, where many of their Filipino-inspired flavors, such as Sago, calamnsi, and melon, are missing. read more

Came on a Friday morning to see what the hype was all about. As we walked to the register, the first thing I noticed was that they're giving 10% off for those working in the fire department, hospitals, school districts (there's a sign up where you order). As a school district employee I was able to get this nice gesture of a discount. We got 4 items to our order. The strawberry matcha, the malaya signature, and the ube churro. The strawberry matcha was delicious as it is in between of it being earthy and milky. I will most definitely come back for their matcha. We also got the malaya signature in which it is a bit strong but the cream top compliments it but it's still delicious. The ube churros were good too. It's a cool new spot worth trying. This place is walking distance from my workout studio so I came by to see what they have for a post workout pick-me-up. I got their matcha latte and I couldn't really taste anything but milk. Their coffee also tasted more milky, but I did like the cream top. I got their Lumpia crunch sando, and while I did get that crunch, it was a bit too oily for my taste. However, I came when they first opened, so maybe it was just a bad day. I ordered less sweet (50%) with almond milk and it was a good balance of sweet and bitter. I did taste more caramel than banana flavor this time around so it may have been an off day but not a big deal. Well I went in line just after working out a little before 7 and they were open and already taking orders lol which was really nice of them. There was a bit of a wait which is understandable. I saw a customer getting some ensaymada. I knew they were serving it but didn't ask because it was not on display yet. While waiting I decided to get one for my breakfast, but for some reason they decided to just give it to me for the wait. This was generous, I was willing to wait given they took my order before 7! Anyways, the parking area is huge and the patio seating is spacious. I can't wait to sit and hopefully get some of their food items, which I hope they'll expand because there isn't any filipino food in the area. We checked out Malaya based on a YT video review that was all glowing and praises only find out the Tapa Loco and Chicken Adobo rice were ok, but definitely over hyped by the YT video. One good thing, the price was affordable at $13 for entrees. But this is where caution is needed coz the drinks cost $7-8 ea and desserts $7 ea. And we were wise enough to just have the entrees so our bill with tax was under $30. If we had drinks and dessert, it'd be at around $50, which we'd rather spend somewhere else. I love a good coffee spot/cafe with lots of parking and Malaya definitely has a lot of parking! Its also located on the corner so access in and out is easy. Love the shaded seating area that they have right next to the building. Makes it feel like you're sitting and having a coffee on your porch. There are outlets along the bottom of the counter seating but personally this feels more like a sit and chat place rather than a working place. The workers behind the counter were very friendly and even helped me choose a drink! My order came out fairly fast as well I got the ube creme and an order of lumpia. Im not sure if its just because im so used to egg rolls but the lumpia seemed kind of skinny to me. However they were still very delicious and the sauce they came with was great! The ube creme was also very good! I find that most places that do an ube or pandan coffee dont have a good balance of flavor so its usually over powered by the coffee but this was not the case. The ube and coffee flavor was perfectly balanced and the drink wasn't overly sweet either Overall, this is a great place to come back and chat with friends with some solid drink and food choices! I finally came around coming to this new coffee shop! I have seen the name change from Flavor Fusion to Malaya a while ago. I decided to come and try Malaya as I work on around the corner. Service was great! A lady took my order today and she was very nice! I love how there's outdoor seating as well. I can see how it can get busy as the time I had gone, there was still a bit of a line for a weekday. I like the flower design as it makes the shop pop a bit more. Ambiance is great. Most coffee shops now cost about $6-$9 a cup. So definitely expect to pay a bit more for coffee. I got the Banana Latte. Perfectly balanced sweetness with the coffee. My wife and I went to Malaya today about an hour after opening and ordered 2 leche flan lattes, 1 spam breakfast sando, and 1 lumpia crunch sando. Everything came out except my lumpia sando which I had to go up to counter and ask for. They had obviously forgot about the sandwich even though I heard the cashier say the order to the kitchen. I would have forgiven them for it if they made my order next, but I sat there for about 20 minutes watching other people who ordered after us get their food. When I finally got my sandwich, I was extremely pissed that I waited that long for a pink, disgusting, undercooked pork patty. I appreciated that the worker gave us a free order of lumpia for the inconvenience, which was flavorless. This is the only nice thing I have to say about my experience today. I understand that it was busy at Malaya this morning, but it is inexcusable to serve undercooked pork to your customers. I want to support Filipino businesses as a Filipino, but I cannot continue to come here after today's experience. I would caution anyone that is considering ordering this to reconsider, and to the business to take this off their menu. read more
