Our server, a middle-aged woman, was very friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, the food was just average. We ordered a bunch of dishes, but nothing really stood out or impressed me. Overall, I don't think I'll be coming back.
New location since our last visit. I like the new place a lot. Very comfortable and contemporary decoration. We order some signature dish like nasi lemak, duck egg char quay teow, dry wonton noodles. Those are my favorite in Malaysia. Their dried wonton noodles is just ok. But the other two dish is good. We also got the appetizer chicken satay. This is a must have. The roti canai is just ok.
Lots of people were eating here so seems like lots of people like it; but I think is an alright spot; or maybe I was expecting too much. Its a good size restaurant with big menu; plenty of options to pick and choose. Service was good; waited a while to get seated but we notice it was only one person working in the front and she was helping a table so we think nothing of it. The menu/pictures looks good. What we got: Shrimp fritter (2.5/5) This wasn't it for us; not sure if it was the batter; but after we ate one; it felt oily? And it just stuck in our mouth. I would get a different appetizer next time. Nasi Goreng (1/5) Sorry; this was not what we expected either. Maybe im just used to flavorfull Nasi Goreng. It was bland and it was more of like a rice pillaf that barely touch the wok. I really hope this was just a one of those day and it usually good. It looks really good when it arrives and we were so excited; but when we started eating it; we were very surprise. Panang char kway thew (3.5/5) This one was decent; plenty of flavor. We like it. Belachan shrimp and sring bean (4/5) Best one from all the ones we ordered. Plenty of flavor. We use some of the sauce to mix in to nasi goreng. Teh Tarik (4/5) Good teh tarik. Really enjoy it. Har ko sai (4/5) Enjoy it. Good balance of both the mili and coffee Overall It could be better; I think my expectation was too high. Again; plenty of people were there so guessing they like them. Probably will try again if we are in the area.
There aren't many Malaysian restaurants in the Seattle area, and I believe this is the only one on the Eastside. Three of us came in for an early dinner around 4:30p and only a couple tables were occupied, so we were seated in an area with no other parties next to us. Their menu is pretty extensive! Whether you're looking for a meat dish, seafood, noodles, rice, curry or something vegetarian, they have got you covered. Our eyes were definitely bigger than our stomachs! We ordered four dishes to share and had leftovers of each one. That said, the serving sizes of each item were very reasonable for the prices and certainly filled us up. + BELACHAN KANG KUNG: For our vegetable dish, we tried this bowl of water spinach cooked with garlic and shrimp paste. The water spinach itself was fresh and I enjoyed the firmness of the stems. Sadly, I found the shrimp paste to be overpowering and just too much for my taste. These would have been perfect just cooked in garlic, which I actually couldn't taste at all. + PENANG CHOW KUEH TEOW: I could eat these noodles all night! The wide rice noodles were perfectly coated in the savory sauce and had that true wok hei taste. I found several small shrimp, but only two pieces of squid, so I wouldn't call this a very good value, but it was really delicious! Bean sprouts and Chinese chives added nice bites of crunch. + CURRY BEEF BRISKET IN CLAY POT: Chunks of braised beef and potatoes came swimming in a rich curry sauce. The sauce had a smooth consistency with a nice balance between coconut milk and warm spices. The beef was super tender and succulent, but I didn't like how they included the thick fatty membrane on the meat. I personally cut it off, since it had an off-putting rubbery texture. Overall, this is a solid dish though! + BLACK PEPPER CHICKEN: Lean and tender pieces of white meat chicken were tossed with slices of white onion in a light black pepper sauce. The sauce had a mild spice and I could taste a splash of fish sauce which added some extra flavor. The onions still had a good crisp to them. With the exception of the Black Pepper Chicken, everything we ordered had a little thumbs up icon on the menu, indicating that they were recommended dishes. Quite a few thumbs were sprinkled throughout the menu which helped us narrow down what to order, otherwise, we probably would have been deliberating for a while. Two employees managed the entire dining room and did a good job tending to both tables and multiple takeout orders. With this being the only Malaysian restaurant on the Eastside, it's definitely worth a visit and I look forward to coming back to try their Laksa!
I went on my own and only had room for one dish. Ordered the Penang Char Kuay Teow. It was tasty. It has some wok hei flavor. The shrimp was not big but the flavor of the noodles was good. overall it was satisfactory and met my expectation of a char kuay teow outside of Malaysia. Cute restaurant in the middle of Lake Hills plaza with a few other restaurants, dessert shops, a library, a small halal grocery store. Plenty of parking. Service was not as bad as others described here. The staff brought extra chili/sambal as requested.
First time with my group of girlfriends to celebrate a birthday. There were 6 of us and one of them visited Malaysia and wanted to introduce this restaurant. Our server was able to explain the different dishes service was great. We waited for our check for a while. So, I wonder if we need to ask for it like different cultures. My favorite was the Haianese chicken and rice, the latka curry, and the eggplant dish. They were all very delicious. They also sold variety tropical drink. Portions were average, atmosphere casual, service good!
Food is below mediocre. Being Malaysian this is definitely NOT a representation of Malaysian food. The sambal for the Nasi lemak was so bad it might as well have been called Ketchup. The Bak Kut Teh came luke warm with no chili side. It is meant to be served hot! The char kuey teow was bland. The roti canai was oil galore and the curry that came with it had a ton of sugar. This is a bad representation of Malaysian food. A shame for the prices that they charge! And the cutlery is filthy. Thought I would give it a second chance but it is so disappointing.
Wanted to try this place for quite sometime and finally had the chance to try it. Interior looks great, however, as many reviews mentioned, everything else felt short. Customer service: Once you were seated, everything is literally there. Plates, menu, empty cups and water. No greetings or the usual customer service you'd expect (no big deal). They literally never came by our table, and we tried to flag down a staff to even just put in our order for a good 20+ minutes. When they serve, they just put it on your table almost like slamming it on the table and leave. Not checking if you need anything else or whatever, like they are trying to get as far away from you as quick as possible. Taste: If you are looking for authentic or somewhat close to it, this is not it. The roti telur tasted like a burrito. Roti telur, bread with egg, should be crispy flatbread with egg filling inside. But they added more cubes of bell peppers to the point as soon as they serve it, I could smell the raw peppers. The dipping curry sauce tasted like just curry powders and salt. No soul to it. Nasi Lemak is somewhat decent-ish, but the sambal is definitely whitewashed or localized. Very sweet candied sambal instead of the rich hot savory peppery sambal. But it's still nice and fragrant to eat with the rice. The chicken (add-on $7) was served hot, but there's no flavor or even blended marinade/spices on the skin. Ayam berempah, or spiced chicken, did not taste like spiced or even seasoned at all. It's very close to paper dry. Wanting to pay and get out? Another hide and seek trying to flag down the server... When they came and give you your check and you make payment on their little handheld POS, they didnt even say thank you. TLDR: No customer service, not authentic malaysian food.
This restaurant is considered Malaysian but the menu says otherwise. They have plenty of Malaysian dishes, but they also have other items like tom yum soup, mapo tofu etc. I tried their nasi lemak with chicken and roti telur. Great portion for the chicken and alright for the roti. The sambal tastes sweet ketchupy than it should be. The service was not the greatest. My party of two got seated after a few mins in the corner where we seemed to have been forgotten. It took them a while to get our orders. Also, the main dish arrived before the appetizer. Interior is cute, but I'm not necessarily tempted to come back for the food. 3 stars since it was still good food.
Was craving Malaysian food after a trip to Malaysia but sadly left a bit disappointed. I ordered a curry noodle dish (forgot the name and having trouble finding it on the menu), but it basically had noodles, potatoes, and chicken tossed in a curry sauce. It also came with a bowl of some kind of soup. Overall I thought the flavor was pretty good, though it would've been nice to include more chicken in the dish. We also had some satay to share amongst our table, which was pretty good as well (but again, larger portion would be appreciated). Service is where my visit really fell short - we were left waiting for our food for what seemed like 30+ minutes. Staff wasn't that friendly either and did not come to check on us at all. Will maybe try coming during off hours next time as the long wait is what's deterring me from going back.
We first went to Malay Satay Hut way back when it was one location in Little Saigon decades ago. Loved it. Not big on atmosphere but definitely big on savory goodness. In between then I went to the Redmond location for lunch multiple times with friends and customers. Always enjoyable. The better half wanted something out of our normal routine and we hadn't been for a while and just realized there was a location in Bellevue. We ordered the Hainan chicken plate, roti with curry dip, tofu with vegetables curry and salted fish / chicken fried rice to go for enjoying at home. Yum. We had a chance to visit Kuala Lumpur years ago and loved the food there as it was this crazy good mashup of Chinese, Indian, Thai and other Asian styles. This was a fun way to recall that trip for sure.
Super delicious food with an expansive menu! Highly recommend the oyster omelet and the roti as appetizers. Everything was cooked super well and we will definitely be back to try more! The service is very fast but it can be difficult getting the server's attention even if it is a quiet night due to the layout of the restaurant.
Was quite excited about the new location. We used to love this restaurant when we were kids but about 8 years ago, the dishes changed. Maybe the chef changes? We found it in a new location. Supposedly, it got moved to the new location 2 months ago. Waitress was super nice. Interior was nice. We ordered a few dishes. Green beans with shrimp was okay. Chose yellow noodle with curry Laksa. This dish was quite disappointing. Lack of flavor and ingredients. There are quite a few pieces of tofu. Two pieces of shrimp and some fish balls.. Got roti Canai.. Roti was good but very small amount of curry sauce. Not a good ratio. The best dish was probably the beef satay skewered. Satay sauce was good! Not sure if I will come back. May try to give it another chance int he future for other dishes since I love Malaysian food.
I been wanting to try this place out and I was pleasantly surprised. The place was empty when we came around 4:30pm. We were seated right away. I research the menu before I came so I just ordered. The place is quiet and chill. The lady who help us was supernicenand accommodating. Foodwise: Hainanese chicken rice 4/5 -- really yummy. This would have been a perfect dish if the chicken wasn't so bony. Flavor was good, rice was soft and flavorful Roti canai 5/5 --- soft and flaky, my boys devour these Nesi lamak with beef rendan 4/5 --- beef could be more tender, but everything else was good. I love the sambal with the anchovies I definitely would come back here given that it satisfied my cravings. read more
Pros: tasty food, big portions, ample seatings, easy parking, service is attentive. Cons: I'm not from Malaysia and I'm not an expert on Malay cuisine, but from what I remembered I thought Malay food should be more flavorful. I thought the food here tastes milder than the food I had in Malaysia. read more
We try to come here early to beat the crowd as the wait staff is small compared to how busy they can get. We have our favorite dish but this time we were determined to order something else. For drinks: - Grass Jelly Juice - it was good but too sweet for me. I added water to dilute the sweetness. - Sour Plum Lime Spritzer - My companion liked this. It was too tart for me, but maybe because I already started drinking the Grass Jelly Juice. For our main: - Curry Laksa - Rich coconut curry sop with fish balls, fish tofu, fried tofu, shrimp, hard-boiled egg and bean sprouts. Surprisingly, the curry was mild. It was good, but I've had better Laksa elsewhere. - Pineapple Fried Rice - Egg, shrimp, chicken, fresh pineapple, onions, peas and carrots. Topped with dried pork floss. Very flavorful! - Nyonya Fish Fillet - Golden fried Dover Sole fish fillet, diced onions, bell peppers, curry leaves tossed in a lemongrass curry paste. This was so delicious! The fish was tender, cooked just right and the sauce was so tasty! - Eggplants Okra Black Bean Sauce - Eggplants and okra in a garlic black bean sauce. There were more eggplant than okra but I was fine with it since the eggplant was very tasty and went well with the black bean sauce. The few okra on the dish were a bit tough, but the flavor was good. Servers are always friendly, but as mentioned because they have a small staff, you have to be a bit assertive in waiving them down or be patient to wait. read more

There was nothing special about this Malaysian restaurant. Everything was fine. The taste was average. Service was average. They took over Young's Cafe with minimal renovations. If you're looking for a Malaysian Singaporean quick fix, this may hit the spot, but it was nothing special to me. read more

I've been looking for a restaurant that has Authentic Hainanese Chicken Rice. This is the spot, the best part is the garlic/ginger salted oil that I get to dip the chicken into. So yummy. The rice was a good compliment to this dish. Service was excellent and my waitress was super attentive and respectful. The food came out super quick and it was excellent since I was feeling very hungry. The resturant has a clean and modern/stylish look and has a nice presentation. Great location which is convenient for Bellevue. read more
Went for lunch here & tried out several dishes. The star of the restaurant is the Mee Siam noodles. Great flavor with shrimp & fried tofu. Don't miss it. Pineapple fried rice - below average. Yam pot, you will like it if you like taro. Wonton noodle soup was too plain. Green beans & shrimp was good. Overall, good but smaller portions on the noodle dishes. Nice interior. The broth was as still as water, utterly lacking in flavor. It contained only two shrimp, a couple of pieces of tofu, 2 fishball and fish tofu cut in halves and half an overcooked egg. The portion felt minimal and uninspired, disappointing my expectations. The waitress, however, was prompt and courteous. Additionally, the newly opened restaurant maintained a clean and inviting atmosphere. read more

AVOID THIS PLACE, FOOD SAFTY CONCERN!! I visited this restaurant around 7:20 pm yesterday and ordered bak kut teh, which didn't come with rice, so I added a side of rice. When the food arrived in a wooden tray, I noticed an odd smell. At first, I thought it might be coming from the box itself. But after taking my first bite of rice, I realized the rice was spoiled. When I brought this to the staff's attention, the lady immediately said, "I'll bring you another one," without any apology whatsoever. What made me even more upset was how quickly they brought out a new bowl of rice--and it wasn't even that hot. If the restaurant uses a rice cooker as they usually do, this clearly indicated that the rice had been cooked several hours earlier. Since it was already past 7 PM, the dinner rush would have been over. Why would a restaurant still serve spoiled rice--which usually takes more than a day to turn sour--when they already have a fresh batch ready? It makes me wonder: Did they already know the rice had gone bad, cooked a new batch, but still decided to serve the old rice to some customers to avoid wasting it? To make matters worse, I later found out that someone else who ate chicken here ended up with an upset stomach. The hygiene and food safety standards of this restaurant are truly concerning to me. Went to try their new location in Lake Hills for lunch. The new space is bright and clean, with contemporary feel. Menu appears to be the same maybe a couple new items .Taste good but portion seems to be smaller than before. Good service overall, don't mind coming back. read more
I was surprised that this place was delicious. We ordered oyster pancake, kang kong, hainanese chicken, salted egg golden fried prawn, laksa, roti, salt and pepper pork chop, and pork intestines. The salted egg fried shrimp/prawn was very delicious. Super crispy! The roti was also great. The hainanese chicken was also good. They have a parking lot so it will be easy to park here. Delicious dinner! Curry with roti (a fav), Spicy chicken with veg and cashews (great flavor, a little spicy, a little sweet), dry curry veg tofu (my personal fav, love the okra!), spicy prawns (completely addictive), and wide noodles (loved they served the chili sauce on the side so you could flavor to your desired level). As a born and raised Malaysian, I would recommend this place and reunion cafe over Kedai Makan any day. Like most restaurants, there are some dishes that shine and taste like home, and there's some I wouldn't recommend because of the ingredients we simply don't have here (like the prawn mee noodles, which is a Penang specialty and has too much belacan/shrimp paste here). I'd also recommend getting Malaysian dishes, vs typical dishes you can get from most Asian restaurants because it's probably going to be better elsewhere. -- hainan chicken rice -- Nasi lemak -- Cantonese style chowfun (you can also tell the staff to make it yingyong with half vermicelli noodles and half chowfun -- char kuey teow -- roti canai --rendangs -- curry laksa -- their curry dishes -- hokkien mee -- Buddhist yam pot I've never tried their typical Asian restaurant dishes like Singapore noodles (but I would not recommend as Singapore noodles, as it actually does not exist in Malaysia and Singapore, I believe it originated from hongkong). Basically, order the unfamiliar dishes (actual Malaysian dishes) and you'll be happily surprised. If you order more typical dishes that you see in Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese restaurants it might not live up to expectations, because it's not their specialty (it's probably on the menu to cater to more diners) and it's not Malaysian. read more
It was my first time trying this place, and now I know I've been missing out! The food was so good! We had the chicken satay, Indian bread, Hainanese chicken, pepper prawns, and a tamarind sauce fish. Everything had robust flavors and cooked perfectly. Ambiance and service of this place was great. Updated look from the original Malay Satay Hut and the servers were very friendly. However, pricey dishes. The portion was on the smaller size. What you see in the menu doesn't quite match what you end up getting. It's like the pictures in the menu were enlarged. When we got what we ordered it was disappointing...first thought that came to my mind was "that's it?" Food matters to me more than the atmosphere...don't think I will be coming back. Wish they spent the money on providing tasty food and decent portion size than the design of the restaurant. read more

I used to frequently dined at this place when it was located in the ID in Seattle. It was the first place where I've tried the Hainanese Chicken and Chicken rice. This place was a special place to me, filled with memories. Since they've relocated to Bellevue/Redmond, I always tend to forget about this place until our favorite burger spot, Dick's was super packed with their annual promotion, we opted out and head here instead. Not going lie, I was really excited to spend dinner with the hub here and get what I remember that was delicious. The ambiance was as how I remember it in the ID location. We ordered the Hainanese chicken and the Malaysian style pad thai, and it fell short for me. I was slightly disappointed as it wasn't as flavorful as I remember it used to be. It's almost as if something is missing. While the server was really kind for letting us know that there was a price increase on the chicken dish ahead of ordering but one of my pet peeves is when bringing out the dish, the fingers are touching the food aka the pad thai. So for that, I deducted a star. read more
