Surprisingly good sushi, quick service, a bit slow on food delivery to the table but would go back to try more!

Found in the area just behind Riverview shopping center area by the movie theater. Small but very nicely decorated and a very clean appearance. Seated quickly and we got our drinks right away. Our waiter was wonderful. Explained the menu and because I have to really careful with spices help us pick out our Sushi. We ordered the Lord of Tuna and the little pop of Mango in this roll was just perfect. We loved this Sushi roll. We also got just a crab roll, which was alright but not as good as the Lord of Tuna. Across from us the table ordered The Monster roll and the lollipop rolls which they said were amazing. We both got full on the two rolls we had and enjoyed the dinner very much. Stumbled upon this gem while visiting The Riverview. I typically only go to Scottsdale for sushi; reluctantly still. After dining in at Makitto, I can easily without a doubt say this is the best sushi place in AZ. Better than Sushi Roku, Geisha A Go Go, and any spot you can think of. A friend in my neighborhood shared with our FB group and he is not one to post food pics and is a hard sell. So I figured, I had to check it out. Currently, they are running Grand Opening specials through May, so their Happy Hour doesn't apply at this time. I tried 2 sushi roll (birdgang & salmon skin) a stuff jalapeños dish and calamari & jalapeños tempura. Everything was made fresh and what needed cooking was prepared perfectly. The place is small-medium with 10 4-person tables and a bar that seats about 6. It's decorated and furnished nicely. The service was very good & friendly. After time he will begin to understand your palate and create something to suit your sushi needs. I see all sorts of regulars from professional athletes, young professionals, and older Asians following Jay around and it's for good reason. If you want recommendations I can tell you this. Cucumber salad was good. Teriyaki chicken was good, all white meat, onion, bell pepper, broccoli, mushroom, lots of sauce. Comes with salad, but not rice! My combo was very good, but everything tasted like a fine mist of salty, tangy , essence had been sprinkled on it. Didn't need it, fish was good! We stopped in here last night for the first time and all of the other reviews were accurate... This place is amazing! It's probably in our top five Arizona sushi spots. The fish was super fresh and there were a lot of unique rolls on their menu. My favorite was "Lord of Tuna" and my husband's was the Makitto roll that had real crab in it! Makitto Sushi is a small and cozy sushi restaurant that just opened in the Riverview Plaza next to the Cinemark. Despite its size, the interior is nicely decorated and has a warm atmosphere. The staff is friendly and is very attentive to the customers. Jay, behind the sushi bar, has been making sushi for over 20 years. The knowledge he has of the fish and the industry definitely shows in the recipes and sushi he provides the restaurant. The fish is fresh and is of high quality. I also hear they will be getting specials once they are more established. This includes live ama ebi (sweet shrimp), sea bass, monk fish liver etc. If you are a sushi fan, I highly recommend visiting this restaurant. Trying a new sushi restaurant in the valley and we stopped at this place. We came at the happy hours time and I ordered las Vegas and Philadelphia rolls. I asked to remove surimi crab. Both of the rolls we're very good with spicy mayo sauce. I liked Las Vegas roll from this restaurant. The restaurant is small but people coming in and out all time. I don't think you will find this place with no people inside. The decoration of the restaurant is simple and the staff are really friendly. Big parking lot. Excellent sushi and great service! The spicy edamame was delish; it had a different taste than your typical spicy garlic, but I loved it. The jalapeño poppers were bomb, and it came with 8, which was nice. We ordered the Geisha Roll, Crunch Bay, Dynamite, and Dragon rolls. My favorites were the crunch and dynamite! Makitto added lunch hours for Saturday's just a week ago. Went with wife and two small children. First time to Makitto, will not be the last. Sushi was breathtaking. We would take a bite and then look at each other. The fish had such a clear fresh flavor and was bouncy and firm. Our rolls came with Miso soup because we there during lunch. The dashi of the soup tasted so rich and hand-crafted quality. Our 3 year old daughter finished two bowls. The "Makitto" rolls are the more specialty ones of the menu. We ordered the Monster, Tootsie and Las Vegas rolls. The mister was packed with fish and sweet and hot sauces. Each slice, we could taste the shrimp, crab, salmon, tuna and yellowtail. The Vegas roll was smokey and had a good crunch. My wife loved the tootsies sweet flavor. The service was fast. Our drinks were quickly filled. When we asked for booster seats for both kids our server fastened the seats securely to the chairs. We will be frequenting this restaurant often. And hope others will give Mikatto the patronage they deserve. read more

We had to make specific requests like no avocado because my cousin is allergic to avocados and they were sweet about it. The food was really good!!! It hit the spot.
