This is a central California chain, with a few sister locations nearby, and another one in Fresno (Doghouse Grill-right across the street from CSU Fresno). I have frequented both the Cambria and Fresno locations, partially due to the consistently decent service and mostly due to the quality and quick food. It doesn't matter if you show up right when they open, or if you arrive when there's a line out the door waiting to place orders, service is always much quicker than you'd expect. Food is decent--whether you get a salad (note-the side or small salad is huge--it fills a full to-go container), fish and chips, a sandwich or burger. Substitutions are usually not an issue, and ranch/bbq sauces are available at no extra charge. I'm generally impressed with how absolutely fresh the lettuce and veggies are for the salads. I really have grown used to spending $10 or more for a much smaller salad at other locations and have grown accustomed to picking out wilted/rotted veggies and lettuce. Not here-everything is cold, crisp and fresh. Meat is seasoned well-- and the fries are plentiful. There is usually plenty of seating, whether inside or on the patio. Parking can be rough along Main Street, but if you're patient, you can usually find something fairly close. It does help that the grill is towards the end of the street. Rest rooms are limited and often running low on supplies. It can be quite a wait during busy times. In all, this is a great place for quick and decent food. It is consistently enjoyable for the whole family. We'll definitely be back whenever we visit. read more

I live in Cambria, and get food to go from the grill at least once a week. The facility has zero ambience, as its main purpose is to feed the tourist hordes. They do a very good job of that, and I don't mind there being a lack of entertaining decor while I wait for my burger or salad. The Large Asian Salad is my primary source of roughage these days, and it's a good deal. It is truly large, and full of chicken; it is a meal in one bowl. When I order a burger, I've taken to specifying well done, as I have occasionally (but rarely) received one slightly under-cooked. I must emphasize what a good deal the salads are. A couple of other restaurants in town have good food, but a side salad which is embarrassingly tiny. Also, the cashiers maintain a high degree of cheerfulness, even when the line to order is all the way to the front door. Went in downtown Cambria you cannot leave without trying some of the best barbecue this laid-back Beachtown offers. Walk up and order, pay & then wait for your number to be called. There is ample seating on their outdoor patio, which is dog friendly or inside which has a casual sports bar vibe. There are also great beers on tap along with Wine , sodas & iced tea. We were torn as they have some great sounding BBQ options & salads on their menu... for us it came down to the Tri Tip Sammy vs. The Pig , which is a monstrous mound of tender pulled barbecued pork on a delicious French roll slathered with their tangy barbecue sauce. It's served with a basic coleslaw . Its also massive, so two can definitely share this. How have I been going to Main Street Grill for over 15 years and have yet to write a review for this classic spot? Anyways, the best thing about this casual spot is how consistent it is. Most of the flavors and food tastes the same as it did when I started going here as a kid after long days on the beach in San Simeon. I am local to the Fresno area so this joint is the sister restaurant to Dog House Grill in Fresno and Firestone Grill in San Luis Obispo. This place is excels due to its fast service, cheap eats, and massive portions. Dollar for dollar, I don't think you will find a cheaper place to grab lunch or dinner on the central coast with food that is always hot and yummy. A meal for two people was less than $25 dollars. Hard to beat in this location! The menu is pretty concise but has a little something for everyone. I had the cheeseburger and a side of fries and my order was ready in less than 5 minutes of ordering. The burger was thick, juicy, and had the right ratio of meat to veggie toppings. The fries are a classic thin cut fry that are best enjoyed within the first 10-15 minutes of sitting down. All of the food I have ordered here over the years has been quality and enjoyable. At my latest visit, the one thing I did not enjoy was the coleslaw. It was way to salty and the cabbage was oversaturated with a dressing that didn't taste to great. The texture was soggy and it did not taste fresh. I wouldn't order it again on my next visit personally. All in all, this will continue to be a staple for me on each visit I make to the coast. We've been coming here every day during our vacation. I have food, allergies, and I've been ordering just a side of chicken plain every single day. It's a menu item. No problem right. Well little miss neck tattoo refused to just remake it just rinse it off. I would had been happy with it just being rinse off. The rudeness is what got me. So just FYI for those new visitors to Cambria a lot of restaurants close at 3 after lunch and reopen at 5:30 for dinner. We were unaware but this restaurant was open and it looked busy. The service was quick and efficient . You place your order at the register and they call your number once it's ready. We didn't wait longer than 10 minutes. Everything was fresh. My husband ordered clam chowder in a cup and we shared a fish and chips. The fish was fresh but lacking seasoning. The clam chowder was decent and the fries were very good. Well seasoned. This is a sister restaurant to Doghouse Grill in Fresno, so naturally, we had to try it. Unfortunately, it was pretty mediocre, and we will likely not return. Onions rings were severely overdone, to the point that they were hard to eat. The tritip on the sandwich was plentiful and tender, but missing any hint of seasoning or smoke flavor. While it could have been partially redeemed by a delicious bbq sauce, there was about a teaspoon of it on the whole sandwich, not nearly enough. The pork in the pig sandwich tasted better than the tritip but was overcooked to the point that it was dry and grainy. The service was prompt and everything was nearly packed. The food was pretty sumptuous and generally pretty good. Our favorite was the pork ribs. It was soft, juicy, fall off the bone, and tasty. We were surprised at the size of cole slaw, for $2.99 we were expecting a small side but it was like a medium side order. The clam chowder was the next favorite on our list, it was still sufficiently hot when we tasted it in the hotel. The Asian salad was nicely put together with a good variety of ingredients and well presented, though I wasn't a fan of the dressing, it was oily and didn't have much flavor, it seems to have missed some soy sauce. We were so disappointed by this location. We've had their sandwiches in SLO, Fresno and Bakersfield and this location fell super short on a taste. The Tri Tip sandwich would have been flavorless if it wasn't for the BBQ sauce. It was lacking salt, seasoning, even a bit of smoky flavor was missing. Staff & services was okay. Staff were professional but not at all warm like at the other locations. The restaurant ran out of straws and soda lids, so they used coffee cup lids. Spending weeks at a time in Cambria is a relaxing and restful respite from the traffic and noise in Southern California. We enjoy the peace and quiet and the views of the Pacific along with deer, turkeys and other creatures in our yard. We also enjoy the local restaurants on occasion with friends or just the two of us. 2023 - Upgraded to five stars. I realized on my latest trip to Cambria that all of the other reasonably priced restaurants have shut down. Besides a taco truck, this is going to be the best overall value in the area. Tri-Tip sandwich - The Central Coast has one famous regional food item and that's tri-tip. Main Street Grill does a great job with their tri-tip sandwich because the bread is toasted and the meat is pretty generous compared to other places. Be sure to request extra sauce when you pick up your order at the counter. Their tri-tip is milder in flavor which is great. Some places way over season or smoke their tri-tip and you can't remove those flavors. At least here you can add flavor based on your preferences. Burgers are good too. Onion rings are great. We came at a great time and it was crowded and busy but there was no wait for a table. It is a sports bar and they have plenty of flat screen televisions and sports decor. We ordered our food at the counter and they called us shortly to pick it up. I did notice that they were preparing everything fresh. My husband had the shrimp and fries . I had the salmon sandwich . It didn't come with fries so I also ordered a side of fries. Everything was delicious. I had some of for my husband's shrimp and they were so good. They were golden brown and cooked to perfection. This was our first time visiting and we're hopeful when we saw the great selection and very decent prices on the menu. We ordered The Pig (pulled pork) and a fried chicken sandwich. The Pig came with a good heap of pulled pork on a buttered roll. Unfortunately, the pork barely had any bbq sauce and was not seasoned at all. It was incredible unsavory and inedible. The friend chicken sandwich was just two pale chicken tenders tossed onto a bun. It was nothing exciting. We had to split this because The Pig was unappetizing.
