Well, we ordered Singapore chicken satay and Vietnamese bbq pork with noodle and veggies. I must say, we will not order from here again. The food had no flavor and the pork was very thin, overcooked and dry. I've lived in Singapore and Thailand and my wife is Asian. We know very well what this should taste like. After eating a couple of pork pieces, my wife had to stop and throw it away. As far as the peanut sauce, I think a scoop from a peanut butter jar might have been better. Food needs a major improvement. I ordered the Thai basil chicken and chicken pad thai. What we got was a weird noodle dish that didn't taste like much with everything but the kitchen sink in it. I'm sorry to say that I didn't read yelp reviews before ordering here -- I went off a hotel recommendation. Big mistake. The pad thai was very weird. Flavorless with small pieces of broken stuck together noodles.. did not taste like anything really. The spring rolls were baked and greasy. Very unappetizing and easily the worst "thai food" I have ever attempted to eat. Found this place on accident. It's take out only but there are tables outside where you cam eat your food. Daughter liked the potstickers. The lamb samosas are large and really good with the jalapeño sauce. The thai green tofu tempeh curry was weird but so good. We were in Cambria and love Asian cuisine so we decided to try Wild Ginger. It's a bit pricy for what you get. We ordered the chow mien vegetarian way, potstickers and salmon special. The vegetables were very good. The salmon was over cooked and not seasoned well. They did provide hoisin sauce so that kind of helped. The potstickers were just ok, they reminded me of the frozen ones you can get. I have made home made potstickers and these didn't taste like those. The chow mien tasted ok but could have used more flavor and the noodles they used with that dish were different than what I'm used to. I realize Wild Ginger is an Asian fusion place so they mix a lot of different Asian cooking but it just wasn't for me. Now the staff was very friendly. The cooking time was right when she said it would be ready. That was nice and the inside and outside of the restaurant is very clean and nice. This place is underrated. We did take out the night before Thanksgiving. Everything was tasty, the food was ready quickly, they use fresh ingredients and the range of options spanned a bunch of Asian food categories. Believe the low star reviews.. we paid $72 for basil tofu, Szechuan Tofu, 1 order of spring rolls, and seafood special. Portion are total small and are not entrees. They are combos at entree prices. It's mostly veggies and cold rice. Szechuan had no spice, bland tasted exactly like the basil tofu. The rice was cold. The food tasted reheated not fresh. The seafood special tasted freshly made, but there was broken mussel shells in it, I cut my mouth. The spring rolls were reheated and tasteless. It was recommended to us by a friend so we gave it a try and were glad that we did. We started with the Korean Beef dumpling ($11) as an appetizer. They look like potstickers, but with a different taste. The dumplings with chili-lime dipping sauce was very tasty. The Roast Duck ($22) was good. It is served with brown rice, sautéed spinach, and a very interesting tangy mango-jicama salad. It had a sweet and thick sauce that enhanced the flavor. Friendly and delicious. I got the BBQ pork and a small Tom kha gai and it was a good size dinner with no leftovers. The Tom kha soup was very sweet and thick with coconut milk, no real spice but it was delicious and filling. The BBQ pork was very flavorful and came with a mango jicama salad that complemented it well. Everything else on the menu sounded delicious, particularly the specials. It's a little pricey but considering everything else in Cambria seems to be very expensive and pricey...it seemed a bargain. The Mediterranean place right down the street was charging more for a shawarma plate that anywhere else would be less than half the price. I have no idea how Thai food can go so wrong. My brother and I were cold, wet (it was raining), and very hungry. When we entered the restaurant we realized it was take out only. I explained to the old woman behind the counter that our hotel room didn't have a place to eat and could we please eat there. The Tom Kha soup, lifeless, with long on mushrooms but short on flavor. And the chicken pad Thai was the WORST I've ever had, again, very short on chicken but liberally tossed with big chunks of cauliflower(!) and broccoli (!) and noodles that weren't the ones to be used for Thai food. If you happen to pop your head in and see the 80 year old asian lady, and think your about to get the asian fusion meal of a lifetime do not be fooled. This meal was literally the worst most flavorless dish i have ever had. Got ginger prawn curry which should have been loaded with flavor. Couldn't taste ginger at all and curry literally was like watered down soup. My girlfriend got orange prawns and same effect. Was like they cooked the dish with a half cup of water. Soggy , flavorless, and full meal looked like the to leftover box you would normally leave with. Dishes were 22/24 each and size of them was comparable to a microwave meal. We also got the large tom kha soup which was 14 dollars. Tasted like watered down sour milk. Most disappointing meal I've ever had. We didn't even eat the soup and kept it to take a pic for review. 14 bucks for something that doesn't remotely taste like tom kha and is a 4 inch tall x 2 inch wide to go cup for your whole soup. This place is nothing short of a price gouging tourist trap. Beware and spend your hard earned money in one of the many restaurants that deserves the business. read more

I was glad to find this little restaurant in Cambria this week while out exploring. The menu is a nice mix of Thai and Vietnamese dishes with a few other specialties available like big Indian samosas (see pic.) These Indian samosas aren't the ones that fit in the palm of your hand, nope! Big giant ones. I had already made up my mind what I wanted before I saw them, so I've added them to my list to try next time. I had the Thai beef salad. And it was good--a little nontraditional with fresh blackberries in it. Felt California Fusion-ish. If you like your beef salad not laden down with heavy sauces, this might be for u. It wasn't spicy and the beef seemed to be steamed or similar. I splurged on a piece of lemon cheesecake out of their dessert counter. It was big enough for 2 or 3 if you just want a couple of bites. It was a soft style of cheesecake--the lemon flavor not heavy. Pets are welcome on their patio. Specials on their whiteboard sounded like some other good options. One note: they had no white rice the night I stopped by. Brown rice seems to be the only option here. read more

Tourist/Vegan exploitation - I travel to this area several times a year but this was my first and last visit. Despite the countless bad reviews and warnings by locals to avoid Wild Ginger, we decided to try something new and fresh sounding.. As I mentioned, there are a ton a bad reviews of Wild Ginger and they all complain about the same things. Expensive, small portions, bland, and a sour owner.. I can confirm that those complaints are true. When looking over the menu I first thought the prices were part of a catering menu but I soon realized these were their normal prices. Pho at $18 bucks?? But I got this far in the process and the dishes sounded great on paper. We bought a few basic items like Hunan Beef $22, Pad Thai $20, Szechuan Tofu $15, and Sesame Chicken $12. Many of these dishes were prepared exactly the same except for the protein ( or tofu) in that you get a small scoop of brown rice and a handful of mini colorful vegetables. I'd say that these were more lunch size portions and not really suitable for sharing. The Pad Thai was just boring noodles in a very light sauce. Everything else was just okay, and really on the light side as far as sauce and flavor. I suppose if you were looking for light food this place might be more appealing. I suspect that the owner has focused her menu toward wealthy vegans and adjusted prices accordingly. When I mentioned something to owner about the vegan dishes she said "they" like it that way. And it doesn't go unnoticed that the few five star reviews for Wild Ginger are from vegans... - Price is about double what it should be. - In general, the food was boring and bland, a stark contrast to their business name "Wild Ginger".. - Two stars because that handful of fresh colorful vegetables was very good. If you're a tourist just ignore Wild Ginger. If you're a vegan just be prepared to be separated from your money. read more

We decided to give Wild Ginger a try even after reading all the reviews from the locals and fellow tourists, Fortunately the items we ordered turned out really delicious, yes the portions aren't huuuge buuut for the price(especially nowadays) seemed reasonable. Trust me I'm fellow business owner in the bay area and its extremely expensive to run a small business let alone any business in California the taxes and overhead expenses kill you its actually really disheartening but what can you do it ain't that sunny in Cali anymore.
