We love Debbie. Food is delish and we sit outside on the patio. Highly recommend samosa and spring roll. She makes fresh sorbet in many flavors, including coconut and pomegranate! read more

Wild Ginger - Spring roll, pork noodle, samosa - Asian Fusion Near Me - Cambria, California

Very mediocre food, almost no flavor. Thai Basel Tofu pretty much tasteless and Szechuan beans so small a portion for 17 dollars is a ripoff

Well, we ordered Singapore chicken satay and Vietnamese bbq pork with noodle and veggies. I must say, we will not order from here again. The food had no flavor and the pork was very thin, overcooked and dry. I've lived in Singapore and Thailand and my wife is Asian. We know very well what this should taste like. After eating a couple of pork pieces, my wife had to stop and throw it away. As far as the peanut sauce, I think a scoop from a peanut butter jar might have been better. I'm sorry to say these things but when we pay as much as we did, I do expect better. At least true Thai flavor. read more

3.5 to 3.8 stars overall for the food.... Wild Ginger is a farmers market fresh Cal Asian takeout spot in Downtown Cambria. We ordered the slightly overcooked Singapore chicken satay with a too chunky peanut sauce, the delish shakin beef with wok seared filet mignon cubes ( could have included more) veg & rice noodles roasted peanuts & crispy shallots , the basic wild ginger Asian chicken salad ( minimal chicken) and the solid wild ginger prawn curry with a sort of apple chutney. It seemed like a healthier option for takeout food in this town & was tasty but expensive. read more

We took a look around and Wild Ginger fit our needs. We ordered and drove the few miles from our rental to pickup. Food was ready and just what we ordered. Not fancy, but hot and ready to eat. read more

Food needs a major improvement. I ordered the Thai basil chicken and chicken pad thai. What we got was a weird noodle dish that didn't taste like much with everything but the kitchen sink in it. The Thai basil chicken was more like an orange chicken with a bunch of random Vegetables while the rice tastes old and not fresh. Never again! read more

I'm sorry to say that I didn't read yelp reviews before ordering here -- I went off a hotel recommendation. Big mistake. The pad thai was very weird. Flavorless with small pieces of broken stuck together noodles.. did not taste like anything really. The spring rolls were baked and greasy. Very unappetizing and easily the worst "thai food" I have ever attempted to eat. I say "attempted" because we ended up throwing away all $70 worth of food (for 2 people) and ordering a pizza instead. read more

Found this place on accident. It's take out only but there are tables outside where you cam eat your food. Daughter liked the potstickers. The lamb samosas are large and really good with the jalapeño sauce. The thai green tofu tempeh curry was weird but so good. We were surprised with the different vegetables in it including squash blossoms. It felt really upscale. The szechuan green beans were also delicious. read more

Weren't too friendly/ welcoming to me but gave other customers proper customer service

We were in Cambria and love Asian cuisine so we decided to try Wild Ginger. It's a bit pricy for what you get. We ordered the chow mien vegetarian way, potstickers and salmon special. The vegetables were very good. The salmon was over cooked and not seasoned well. They did provide hoisin sauce so that kind of helped. The potstickers were just ok, they reminded me of the frozen ones you can get. I have made home made potstickers and these didn't taste like those. The chow mien tasted ok but could have used more flavor and the noodles they used with that dish were different than what I'm used to. I realize Wild Ginger is an Asian fusion place so they mix a lot of different Asian cooking but it just wasn't for me. Now the staff was very friendly. The cooking time was right when she said it would be ready. That was nice and the inside and outside of the restaurant is very clean and nice. I love the artwork they have inside and their patio is great. read more

Delicious made to order food! Be patient, you may have to wait. Also amazing chocolates and sorbet! We will be back!

The basil chicken had rotten basil in it and was way too sweet. The chicken was weird. The added noodles were rubber spaghetti strings. The pot stickers were ok and the sauce was good. read more

This place is underrated. We did take out the night before Thanksgiving. Everything was tasty, the food was ready quickly, they use fresh ingredients and the range of options spanned a bunch of Asian food categories. I'm guessing negative reviews are people expecting very traditional Chinese food based on the name. Would highly recommend. I believe we got samosas, noodles, and sesame chicken. read more

Wow! The food here was really good. We all got something different and everyone was happy with their meal. I ordered the Singapore Laksa dish and asked for it to be extra hot and spicy, and it was perfect!!! Can't wait to go back! read more

Ordered ginger chicken green salad. No ginger taste whatsoever. There was radishes instead. There were shreds of chicken which wouldn't mount to about 2 ounces. To top it all, they charged $22.00 for that. Super expensive. read more

2 stars for very nice lady who took our orders. As for food, not even sure what we ate. Tom Kha Gai 2/5 (Thai coconut soup with chicken)- the soup got a bit of flavor but super sweet like drinking dessert. Thai chicken basil (0/5)- DON'T, I repeat, DON'T order or you will regret it. The dish is super sweet and shockingly no basils. The flavor is not anything resembling chicken basil at all. Overall, it's try it once and done for mental read more

Horrible food. Can't even call it thai food. There is no taste they add whatever they find. Chicken satay didn't even looked like one. Everything we ordered was horrible. read more

Believe the low star reviews.. we paid $72 for basil tofu, Szechuan Tofu, 1 order of spring rolls, and seafood special. Portion are total small and are not entrees. They are combos at entree prices. It's mostly veggies and cold rice. Szechuan had no spice, bland tasted exactly like the basil tofu. The rice was cold. The food tasted reheated not fresh. The seafood special tasted freshly made, but there was broken mussel shells in it, I cut my mouth. The spring rolls were reheated and tasteless. I should of went with my instincts., and fellow yelp reviewers, don't waste your $ here. WAY WAY over priced. read more

Wild Ginger - Broken mussel shell in the pasta .. cut my mouth - Asian Fusion Near Me - Cambria, California

This is based on pad Thai, beef salad, and Sate. The sate was the only thing I enjoyed (though definitely not the accompanying peanut sauce, it was congealed) The chicken pad Thai had no chicken and instead had tofu and cauliflower, a lot of cauliflower. It didn't taste like much beyond soy sauce. The beef in the beef salad was chewy and grey... and the dressing was mostly fish sauce (not good tangy/spicy just fish sauce) I'd rather go to JJ's down the street. But don't go for a large if you're just two people. read more

This is a good take out place with interesting offerings. It is take-out only, but there are three small tables outside where you can eat your food, if there is an available table. No table service. It was recommended to us by a friend so we gave it a try and were glad that we did. We started with the Korean Beef dumpling ($11) as an appetizer. They look like potstickers, but with a different taste. The dumplings with chili-lime dipping sauce was very tasty. The Roast Duck ($22) was good. It is served with brown rice, sautéed spinach, and a very interesting tangy mango-jicama salad. It had a sweet and thick sauce that enhanced the flavor. We also had the Vietnamese BBQ Pork ($20), which is served with noodles, sauteed spinach, and the mango-jicama salad. It was accompanied by the chili-lime sauce. Vert tasty. The people at one of the adjacent outside tables left just as we picked up our order, so we were able to eat it there. read more

Friendly and delicious. I got the BBQ pork and a small Tom kha gai and it was a good size dinner with no leftovers. The Tom kha soup was very sweet and thick with coconut milk, no real spice but it was delicious and filling. The BBQ pork was very flavorful and came with a mango jicama salad that complemented it well. Everything else on the menu sounded delicious, particularly the specials. It's a little pricey but considering everything else in Cambria seems to be very expensive and pricey...it seemed a bargain. The Mediterranean place right down the street was charging more for a shawarma plate that anywhere else would be less than half the price. They also gave us very hot Thai chili on the side when we asked after something spicy. Yum! read more

I ordered the sweet and sour tofu and pad thai. Both dishes looked fantastic and tasted great too. The veggies were fresh and crunchy and weren't overly sauced so I could still taste them. I can't wait to explore the rest of the menu read more

If I could leave no stars I would. Complete tourist trap. Highly, HIGHLY overpriced. Placed an order over the phone, lady on the other end could care less about customer service. Almost like placing an order was inconveniencing her. Should've hung up then and there. Got the garbage sesame chicken, tasted like two day old re-heated Panda Express. Maybe not even that good. Zero flavor. About 4 tiny pieces of chicken. Portions are garbage. Tasted like regret to say the least. Threw it out after eating almost half. Spicy chicken soup, soup was in a kids size cup and came with about a tablespoon of chicken. This is not an exaggeration. Chefs here need to retire, just a sad excuse for a meal and a complete waste of money. Super disappointed. Oh, did I say garbage? read more

I was glad to find this little restaurant in Cambria this week while out exploring. The menu is a nice mix of Thai and Vietnamese dishes with a few other specialties available like big Indian samosas (see pic.) These Indian samosas aren't the ones that fit in the palm of your hand, nope! Big giant ones. I had already made up my mind what I wanted before I saw them, so I've added them to my list to try next time. I had the Thai beef salad. And it was good--a little nontraditional with fresh blackberries in it. Felt California Fusion-ish. If you like your beef salad not laden down with heavy sauces, this might be for u. It wasn't spicy and the beef seemed to be steamed or similar. I splurged on a piece of lemon cheesecake out of their dessert counter. It was big enough for 2 or 3 if you just want a couple of bites. It was a soft style of cheesecake--the lemon flavor not heavy. Pets are welcome on their patio. Specials on their whiteboard sounded like some other good options. One note: they had no white rice the night I stopped by. Brown rice seems to be the only option here. read more

Don't let the fact that it's takeout only for you. It's one of the best restaurants in town. The only one serving that specific cuisine. The owner is there every night to greet you with your takeout order. Go find a park bench to eat it all or even the historical buildings park. read more

I have no idea how Thai food can go so wrong. My brother and I were cold, wet (it was raining), and very hungry. When we entered the restaurant we realized it was take out only. I explained to the old woman behind the counter that our hotel room didn't have a place to eat and could we please eat there. She said, "there are other restaurants down the street with sit-in dining rooms. We figured that the food must be really good if she could afford for to be so rude and brazen to her potential customers. We were wrong. The fried spring rolls were dry and flavorless. The Tom Kha soup, lifeless, with long on mushrooms but short on flavor. And the chicken pad Thai was the WORST I've ever had, again, very short on chicken but liberally tossed with big chunks of cauliflower(!) and broccoli (!) and noodles that weren't the ones to be used for Thai food. There were also stringy green leaves that might have been spinach. I'm not sure. In short, find a better place. read more

Just inedibly bad. The "egg rolls" were wrapped in phyllo pastry and filled with who knows what... cold and greasy. "Chicken satay" was burned and flavored with Indian spices... and there were soggy, unidentifiable vegetables in one of the entrees, one of which appeared to be a piece of a jade plant (succulent)? Possibly the worst takeout we have ever had. read more

Tourist/Vegan exploitation - I travel to this area several times a year but this was my first and last visit. Despite the countless bad reviews and warnings by locals to avoid Wild Ginger, we decided to try something new and fresh sounding.. As I mentioned, there are a ton a bad reviews of Wild Ginger and they all complain about the same things. Expensive, small portions, bland, and a sour owner.. I can confirm that those complaints are true. When looking over the menu I first thought the prices were part of a catering menu but I soon realized these were their normal prices. Pho at $18 bucks?? But I got this far in the process and the dishes sounded great on paper. We bought a few basic items like Hunan Beef $22, Pad Thai $20, Szechuan Tofu $15, and Sesame Chicken $12. Many of these dishes were prepared exactly the same except for the protein ( or tofu) in that you get a small scoop of brown rice and a handful of mini colorful vegetables. I'd say that these were more lunch size portions and not really suitable for sharing. The Pad Thai was just boring noodles in a very light sauce. Everything else was just okay, and really on the light side as far as sauce and flavor. I suppose if you were looking for light food this place might be more appealing. I suspect that the owner has focused her menu toward wealthy vegans and adjusted prices accordingly. When I mentioned something to owner about the vegan dishes she said "they" like it that way. And it doesn't go unnoticed that the few five star reviews for Wild Ginger are from vegans... - Price is about double what it should be. - In general, the food was boring and bland, a stark contrast to their business name "Wild Ginger".. - Two stars because that handful of fresh colorful vegetables was very good. If you're a tourist just ignore Wild Ginger. If you're a vegan just be prepared to be separated from your money. read more

If you happen to pop your head in and see the 80 year old asian lady, and think your about to get the asian fusion meal of a lifetime do not be fooled. This meal was literally the worst most flavorless dish i have ever had. Got ginger prawn curry which should have been loaded with flavor. Couldn't taste ginger at all and curry literally was like watered down soup. My girlfriend got orange prawns and same effect. Was like they cooked the dish with a half cup of water. Soggy , flavorless, and full meal looked like the to leftover box you would normally leave with. Dishes were 22/24 each and size of them was comparable to a microwave meal. We also got the large tom kha soup which was 14 dollars. Tasted like watered down sour milk. Most disappointing meal I've ever had. We didn't even eat the soup and kept it to take a pic for review. 14 bucks for something that doesn't remotely taste like tom kha and is a 4 inch tall x 2 inch wide to go cup for your whole soup. This place is nothing short of a price gouging tourist trap. Beware and spend your hard earned money in one of the many restaurants that deserves the business. read more

Wild Ginger - Large Tom Kha Soup - Asian Fusion Near Me - Cambria, California

My wife and I love the shaken beef at Wild Ginger! It's a favorite takeout item and I highly recommend giving it a try.

I had the Wong tongs for $11, which were small but good. House salad was delicious. Owner could have been friendlier.

We decided to give Wild Ginger a try even after reading all the reviews from the locals and fellow tourists, Fortunately the items we ordered turned out really delicious, yes the portions aren't huuuge buuut for the price(especially nowadays) seemed reasonable. Trust me I'm fellow business owner in the bay area and its extremely expensive to run a small business let alone any business in California the taxes and overhead expenses kill you its actually really disheartening but what can you do it ain't that sunny in Cali anymore. Off my soap box. Give them a try and see for yourself that not all bad reviews are really from bad food or service.... might be just the person's personal expectations which for some could be impossible or just hard to please. Glad our experience was pleasant the owner is nice by the way just gotta spark the convo! read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Cambria. I really wish there was something like this place in Orange County. The owner Deborah Mok runs this wonderful little restaurant and puts so much attention to detail. Not only is there the regular menu which is always excellent but there's a daily special menu based off the wonderful items she finds at local farmer markets. She has a variety of dishes from Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and even has some Indian pastries. To start I had the Tom Kha Kai which was a spicy Thai coconut and lemon grass soup with chicken and mushrooms. It was sweet and spicy and I enjoyed every bit of it. For lunch I ordered one of the daily specials which was the green papaya salad with shrimp. When I get this dish at Thai Nakorn it just has ground up dried shrimp in it. The dish here had the same, but also fresh shrimp, heirloom tomatoes, sweet peppers, tiny cucumbers, mint, and a delicious lime dressing. It was such a wonderful and refreshing lunch. You really can't go wrong with anything at this restaurant. My wife had the Beef Chow Fun which was served with pan fried glass noodles. I'll let her talk about her meal in her own review. Both entrees were served with a side of Feijoa which is also called a pineapple guava. This delicious fruit you eat by scooping the flesh out with a spoon. It tastes exactly like it's name... a mix of pineapple and guava. For dessert we had the macadamia pie which is just like a pecan pie but with Macadamias! Tasty stuff!! All this food was washed down with a Thai iced tea. read more
