Was meeting up with some long time friends in Cambria and we decided to go to Robin's. We made a reservation online and arrived a bit early. They had a garden table for us, even though the reservation system said none were available. What a peaceful setting. The tables were spaced appropriately so that the guests could still have meaningful conversations without having to worry about being overheard. I ordered a cheeseburger with fries and boy was I happy. The fries were amazing, wish there had been more since I had to pace myself while I ate my burger!! My friends enjoyed their meals, as well. This was within walking distance of where we were staying so we decided to check it out. It's open air and there's greenery everywhere which was very nice, and as the evening became cooler they turned on their outdoor gas heaters which was much appreciated. We ordered the Salmon, the chicken, and the lamb curry. Each one of these dishes were absolutely delicious, they came out hot and in a timely manner. I was particularly impressed with the lamb curry because I was expecting it to be watered down, but it was not. It didn't have as much heat as my Dad's, but it tasted authentic. It took a ridiculously long time for anyone to approach our table once we were seated. Usually if servers are super busy or they get double seated or something, one of the managers will help them out by coming over and telling us someone's on their way, or they might get our drink order started, they do something to help mitigate the absence of acknowledgment from the server, but that did not happen. I observed the comings and going's of all the staff (managers, servers, bussers) that were passing us by and every single one of them averted their eyes. This is not what I expected from a place like this, and every moment that passed made the experience even more off putting. Just as I was deciding to get up and leave the restaurant, because it seemed like we were invisible, our server showed up. Just in time. Sitting out in the garden feels lovely and like you are tucked away (and the space heaters do their job). There were a lot of tasty sounding menu items and easily shared the salted beets and Thai green chicken. Both had wonderful flavor and were delicious; we were super happy with our order and would absolutely order those items again. We were here in March a few years ago and liked it so much we decided to come again during our December visit. The place is even more charming during the holidays with the Christmas decorations and lights adorning the warm wood interior. The restaurant is housed in a cozy historic home built in 1935, and that vibes still lingers in the dining rooms and garden setting. We felt like we were dining in a piece of the town's story. The food reflects the culture of the central coast. Well executed, simple but with a global influence, comforting and fresh. On this visit, highlights included the filet mignon, cooked to a perfect medium rare and plated over mashed potatoes with a velvety demi glace sauce and mushrooms. The baby back ribs, which were tender with a wonderful savory glaze. The autumn salad was fresh with seasonal apples, squash, pomegranate, and feta mingling nicely together. For dessert we shared the pumpkin cheesecake which creamy not overly sweet and a graham crust that crumbled nicely together to the chew. One of the two must go food spots in Cambria IMO (besides hidden kitchen of course). I will caveat that Robin's international cuisine has a California fusion interpretation - a beef bulgogi here will not be the same as a Korean restaraunt in the Bay Area, but all of their food is well executed and absolutely delicious (from someone with snobby food taste buds). It's been a while since I visited so I was excited to try their refreshed lunch menu. I was in town for the holiday market and this restaurant is conveniently located next to the shuttle pick up area. The restaurant is super cute! We stopped by this restaurant while on a road trip down Highway 1. This is such a gem in the downtown Cambria. The garden outside is beautiful and there's a large area that's covered outdoors with plenty of tables for outdoor dining. I got the Skuna Bay BLT and all the ingredients were fresh and delicious. I had performed some research on Cambria restaurants before venturing out on my trip and make reservations in advance at Robin's. I arrived and checked-in and was immediately seated. The restaurant was separated into three areas: inside, outside and the garden. We were seated outside directly under the heaters. The outside area was cool looking as roots from the surrounding plants wrapped around the wooden structure. I got to peek indoors and the inside area was quaint as if you were in a house. As for the food, we ordered garlic bread, Peruvian Chicken, the pork chop, brown ale short rib and chop suey. We also had the split pea soup all around and I ordered a special item salad with spinach, strawberries, pecans, feta cheese and croutons. The soups, bread and my salad came out first. The bread was good, the salad was great and the split pea soup was not great. I'm used to my pea soup with ham and bacon and this was a vegetarian option. The main courses arrived and everything looked good. My pork chop was dry although it had good flavor. The brown ale short rib received the best rating at the table. The chop suey was OK and my wife hated the Peruvian Chicken. This ended up being the second largest restaurant bill during my vacation. Overall three stars with good ambience. read more

The Brussels sprouts and the mushroom soup of the day were full of flavor, albeit a bit too much blue cheese in the sprouts. We tried the delicious fried calamari with lots of tentacles - yum! It could've used a bit more draining as pieces were still oily but otherwise tasty. Big enough to share 2-3 persons. I was semi full just sharing the dish with Hubby. He tried the Roghan Josh (lamb curry) and Thai green curry chicken. Both were good dishes but the Thai curry was a bit too spicy for me. We were walking by at around 8:30 or so tonight and my husband decided he wanted to grab some dessert if they were still open. They had just put out a sign that they were closed to walk-ins, but luckily for us the person in front (manager? host? I'm not sure) was so kind to say he could accommodate us coming in just for dessert. He fully reset a table for us and made sure to set us up somewhere close to the patio heaters. We ordered an affogato, the apple pear crisp, and a crème brûlée and WOW! All amazing. I work at a coffee shop and honestly, their espresso was waaaaay better than ours (lol!). The crème brûlée had such a nice crack and a lovely, almost slightly orange blossom-y flavor to it. The crisp was delicious as well but my husband devoured the majority so I can't weigh in too heavily there. He loved it, though! For lunch on a sunny Friday in mid October with the temperature around 70, we sat at a table for 4 in the large outdoor area. Almost like a picnic in the park. - Food: Tough to beat. I started with a bowl of Vegetable Soup ($12) where you could actually taste each vegetable. Tasty and filling. That was followed by the Caprese Sandwich ($21) with zucchini, vine ripe tomato, roasted bell pepper, mozzarella, pesto and balsamic drizzle on ciabatta bread. I truly love Robins Restaurant. We came here shortly after we got married just my husband and I, and came back last night with our Toddler for our 10th year wedding anniversary. What a special place, we're both vegan and the options are so wonderful. We had Robins Chow with tofu, the most perfect fries, and the enchiladas were incredible. The sweetest part was that my toddler was prepared to leave the sippy cup behind but we asked if they had any we could purchase and our server surprised us in the kindest way. We celebrated New Year's Eve here for dinner. Loved the aesthetic of the interior and had a beautiful table on the patio that was decorated so well for the holidays. We had the calamari, short ribs, and filet mignon. The calamari was not very good. It was rubbery and the breading tasted oily. The short ribs were great. The filet mignon was slightly undercooked. I ordered medium and received medium rare and the gravy that came with it was salty. Overall, the food was pretty good, barring the calamari, which we really did not enjoy. Would come here again and try different entrees simply because the ambiance and service was great. read more

I came here for my birthday in June and it was a pretty good experience. When we arrived, it was a little chaotic with the reservation that I had made, and they got me confused with another person which led to having too many dogs around. I specifically made the reservation contingent on bringing two dogs with me on the patio. about five minutes after we were seated the dogs had to go back into the car because there were about 13 other dogs out there which was causing chaos. That's why I'm giving four stars because if I specifically added the dogs to the reservation like they had asked, then they should be aware of that when letting other dogs in before me. The people around us before we put the dogs back in the car made comments on how it's less of a restaurant and more like a dog park. That's why I was upset because I specifically added them to the reservation like the restaurant had asked. Other than the dog issue (which was a disappointment for me on my birthday having to deal with the stress of checking on the dogs in the car going back back-and-forth) I enjoyed the ambience of the patio. They've done a really good job about making it like a secret garden. The lighting is phenomenal. The service was pretty good. My server was a little bit awkward but nothing to write home about. Again, not an ideal experience with the server for my birthday, but what can you do? No dessert was brought or anything to celebrate. The best part of the experience was the food. I can't complain about anything food wise. It's exactly the type of food I like to eat. We got the filet mignon and the Robin's chow and it was amazing. Presentation is also amazing at this restaurant. You can tell that the stuff in the kitchen really care. All in all, I would definitely come back I would just call ahead and confirm that there are not a bunch of dogs there if you plan to bring your dog. Maybe the service staff needs a little training there. The calamari and salted beet appetizers were stellar, as were the entrées. My wife raved about her lamb chops, and I was in a short rib mood, and both were stellar.
