Redwood Café is a great little diner tucked just off Main Street in Cambria. We sat at the bar, and the staff -- all part of a family-run business -- were incredibly warm, friendly, and attentive. You can feel the genuine care in how they treat both each other and their customers. I ordered the huevos rancheros, which were exactly what you want from a classic diner: simple, consistent, and tasty. Nothing fancy, but really satisfying. The potatoes were cooked well -- not crispy, but lightly done and comforting. The coffee was a standard dark roast served in a thick diner mug, exactly how a good diner coffee should be. There's plenty of parking, plus both indoor and outdoor seating. They have heaters all around, which is perfect since it can get chilly in Cambria. Overall, Redwood Café is a warm, reliable spot with great service and solid comfort food. A true gem of a family-run diner. read more

RC is a little hard to find as they have a small sign on the sidewalk and their restaurant is not facing the street in the strip mall in which they are located. There is ample parking in the lot. They get busy on weekdays around 8:30-9:00, so if you can go for breakfast between 7:00-8:30, they will be less crowded. On our visit for breakfast on a Tuesday/Wednesday around 8:30 service was a little slow to get our order in. The food came out at a moderate, but not fast pace. We got a mimosa, classic eggs Benedict with hash browns and fruit. The eggs Benedict was a bit runny, the muffin was not too tough and not too soaked, the amount of ham was a bit light on one of the two, and the sauce had a good flavor. The mimosa was about standard. The menu has a good selection with a number of other items to choose from. We would come back here, but it is just ok and not stellar. For example, Broken Yolk consistently makes a better eggs Benedict than RC does. Overall, we would recommend giving them a try if in town. You will get a good, but not a stellar meal here. read more

On our way to Hearst castle, we stopped by for breakfast. The positive- the breakfast burrito portion was large and the taste not so bad. The potatoes were a tad bland but not a deal breaker. All went smoothly and now, here's the downside- right around the time we were finishing our meal, we found a black ant in our ice water. I told the server. Easy parking in their lot and quickly dat outside. Service was okay, not overly friendly but quick and checked in a lot. Coffee refills were endless and they have a true diner counter with swivel chairs and all. Has a slightly Cali-Mex menu, with chilaquilles that were perfect satisfying. To be the food was so so, not a lot of flavor. I had coffee and it was just OK. I had a ham and cheese omelette had a nice amount, with average wheat toast and some fruit. Nice that that fruit was only an extra $2. Now my husband had the meat lovers omelette and loved it, with an English muffin and hash browns. Fast and friendly service at this little breakfast nook in Cambria. The food wasn't too shabby. I normally hate pancakes (unless I make em ) but theirs are really good. I ate my whole thing which again, isn't my norm. The sausage was tasty and so were the mimosas despite what seems to be an entire orange for the garnish Now, those grits could use a little work. In fact they could use a lot of work. You can't serve a Georgia girl bland undercooked grits! Ya just can't! I had to return them to be cooked completely and asked for salt to be used with some cheese added. They did cook them more but added a grain of salt and a few shreds of cheese. Lordt! For a breakfast place you can't beat it. Located in downtown (Eastside). Indoor and outside seating. It's a little off the Main Street so when outside not to noisy. Inside is very comfortable. The food selection was huge and they have egg white options to substitute. There is also a kids menu. Service was a bit slow, from ordering to paying for the bill. This is just your typical, greasy spoon, simple breakfast place. But the food is good and the prices are pretty reasonable. There only seemed to be one waitress serving the whole place, but there is enough staff, (busboy, etc.) that we didn't feel neglected. The waitress never checked back on us but the place was busy and we didn't have any issues so I'll give them a pass. I had a cheese and bacon omelet with tomatoes and added Spinach. The bacon was nice, large chunks of bacon and the tomatoes were big and juicy. We stumbled across this place when the original destination had a line out of the door. We were seated, ordered and had our food about 5 minutes later. The chicken fried steak was very good along with the gravy as was my wife's two egg breakfast. The boys running around filling our coffee and water were extremely attentive. The older lady that served us tried her best to be nice but had a few moments of being snarky. When my wife asked if they had a traditional two egg breakfast, she pointed to the menu an item literally titled "two egg breakfast" with an undertone of "it's right here moron." It wasn't bad enough to not ever return to this place, but I do hope that she doesn't read this and then sneeze on our food. read more

My wife and I used to have breakfast here many years ago and we decided to try it again on our latest visit to Cambria. I'm glad that we made this choice. The restaurant is quaint and has a nice outdoor eating area. We dined inside. I ordered the chorizo and egg special and my wife had the Ricardo omelette special without spinach. We were both very happy with our choices. My meal was great and the beans were excellent and very flavorful. The house made salsa that came with the meal was out of this world good. I wanted to get some to take home. My wife's meal was exactly what she wanted and it was a huge omelette, perfectly prepared and loaded with bacon. I might order that next. The eggs were stacked on top of my pancakes and were undercooked. The pancakes were tough... barely could cut through with a fork... and they bring one small little thing of syrup for two (dry) pancakes.
