Cute gift shop, decor with country tchatchkes, doing some minor handiwork during open time - was a bit distracting. Loud with echoes due to concrete floors. Owner overseeing the handiwork and her daughter seems to work here. Lots of loud local conversations heard across the restaurant, including discussions about city council meetings, etc. 3% Credit Card fee not posted in the menu, but rather on the board at the entry. Some people might miss this posting, which is unfortunate. Sat at a small table even though several larger ones were available and no one waiting. Seem to specialize in breakfast, which I have had here before and it was fantastic!! Friendly folks. Bottomless sodas, but they were flat and tasted too syrupy. Could have also been diet even though I ordered regular. Green leaf lettuce so I ordered a salad with my bacon cheeseburger and fries on the side. I appreciate that the server knew it was cheaper to get fries on the side instead of the salad on the side. Fries were seasoned a bit too heavy-handed, the burger was great., bacon cooked perfectly. Server quick to refill soda as I ate my meal. I will probably return here, especially for breakfast, but will pay with cash next time. Stopped in for breakfast and Carla's Country Kitchen did not disappoint in serving up a hearty and plentiful meal. I ordered their Pork Chops & Eggs. This selection comes with two meaty, good-sized pork chops, two eggs cooked to one's liking, a nice portion of hashbrowns or country potatoes, and toast or their house-made biscuits - a very hearty meal. The quality of the porkchops was superb, the fresh-daily baked biscuits were served warm and oh-so-good! Everything was very good. We also chose their Seafood Omelette, a huge portion served with one's choice of potatoes and toast or biscuit. The omelette was filled with crab, shrimp and cheese, and topped with a tad more cheese. It was well prepared. Dog friendly, best place to come for breakfast (in my opinion) . They also serve lunch too (after 11pm) but if you're coming for lunch keep in mind that they close at 1:30pm every day. The place is always busy but getting seated is aways prompt. They make the best homemade biscuits and gravy here and serve a variety homemade muffins to choose from that you can get with your breakfast. My go to breakfast wasn't a consideration today after a walk to the Rock. It's been a few years and I thought it was time to review some of the "other" breakfast spots in town. As fate would have it I was seated at the same table as I was the last time I was here. M ordered a Popeye Omelet, I went Western but we subbed fruit for the potatoes and we both swapped our toast for the house-made biscuits. (Parker House) Then I ordered a side of gravy to give the biscuits and gravy a try. The service was fast and as busy as they were our food was out fast too. That usually means its hot outta the kitchen "big points". So lets dig in and have a taste, these were big omelets "piled high" with real ham not a mainly water heavy ham. Green peppers and onions plenty. Omelets no question these are very good both were very good. The fruit was tired, the color was gone from the melon, orange segment were pretty torn up, you get the idea. Gravy and biscuits well actually Gravy and rolls. I was not impressed with the gravy all the looks were there but wheres the flavor, I didn't taste it. Since we're talking taste the coffee was black hot water...uck. And last comment is a Yelp question "How Noisy"- Very noisy, open room, tile floor and lots of customers. Nevertheless I enjoyed my company today and after eating we milled about the infamous Karlas gift shop. Just getting the time to share... We visited in November of 2024. Absolutely divine. See photos. The gravy was incredible, exactly how I like it. It didn't have that tacky floury taste that most do. If I could eat at this restaurant every day, I would! Very friendly service, there was staff cleaning without rushing, fantastic waitress helped us, and the little shop in the back was also staffed and well/stocked with fun items. I don't even know where to start worst breakfast food I have ever had. Hashbrowns were terrible like not even cooked at all like tastes frozen potatoes and so soggy. Biscuits and gravy bland. I got the steak and eggs horrible I don't even know if you could call a steak just all fat no meat at all. The best part is they charge 40cents for a to go box. The eggs were perfect just like I like them as well as the bacon. However, the hash-browns were just ok and the muffins were the biggest disappointment. In the past, the blueberry muffins were bursting with Bluberries this time there were little specs that I assumed must have been Bluberries. I don't usually write reviews like this, but here we are. We decided to give Carla's a try on our last morning in town -- and unfortunately, we regret it. For a business that's been around a long time, the issues we experienced shouldn't exist. We were seated after a short wait, but it took nearly 10 minutes before anyone came by for our drink order, and another 10 before our server attempted to take our food order. Twice she had to stop mid-order because "the kitchen was calling her." On her third try, she finally got it all down. (We overheard her telling the manager about the number of tables she'd been assigned -- clearly, staffing was an issue.) Thirty minutes into our visit, we received muffins, toast, and biscuits with gravy -- all lukewarm. I'm sure they could've been delicious if served hot. Another 10-15 minutes later, just as we were about to leave, our main dishes arrived. One order was wrong (scrambled instead of over-medium eggs), and the rest of the plates had clearly been sitting; once again, the food was lukewarm at best. For first-time visitors, be aware: Carla's automatically adds a 20% tip for parties of six or more. We paid and left quietly, but if the manager had stopped by, we would have gladly shared our experience directly. read more

I'm honestly surprised this place is one of the top-rated spots. Right when we walked in, we noticed clean utensils, iced tea, and water pitchers being stored right next to trays of dog food where pets eat. That alone was extremely off-putting and raised serious concerns about cleanliness. The service didn't improve things. Our server was unfriendly from the start and dropped the kids' menus and crayons on the table instead of handing them to us, which felt rude and dismissive. Throughout the meal, the attitude didn't change. As for the food--very disappointing. The biscuits and gravy were bland and tasted strongly of raw flour. The eggs on the kids' plates were oily and completely tasteless. It felt like no care was put into the food at all. Between the sanitation concerns, rude service, and poor-quality food, this was not a pleasant experience. The place was infested with flies. And they landed on EVERYTHING. The biscuits were gummy and dense. And to top it off, the shrimp in our dishes was dirty without the digestive tract removed. When I brought up to the server she said they came that way in order to justify it. I also bit something crunchy that definitely didn't belong there - eggshell or grit- but it was gross. We've been coming to Carla's for the past few years, so this review is long overdue. When we adopted our senior rescue pup two years ago, we of course included him on our trips to Morro Bay, and were so happy that Carla's had outdoor seating. We have always been greeted and seated promptly, and every server we've had has been so friendly and accommodating. All of Carla's baked goods are made in-house, and their cinnamon rolls are the best I've ever had. They go easy on the icing and serve the rolls with butter that melts into every crevice. Perfection! As for entrees, I like their bacon and cheese scramble (add avocado), hashed browns (the tops are always golden brown and crispy, as they should be), and alternate between the muffins and biscuits. You get two with your entrée, and there is an assortment of muffin flavors (blueberry and lemon poppy are delicious). My husband raves about the corned beef hash and eggs, Mediterranean scramble, or bacon and eggs. The eggs, whether poached, over easy, or just scrambled, are always prepared perfectly. I came in and was greeted right away . My waitress was delightful , I can't remember her name but we chatted and she gave me some good advise . I ordered the special of the day which happened to be French toast with strawberries . It came with hash browns and eggs. Food was very good tasted like I made it at home myself . Coffee on the other hand was so strong I think I grew some chest hairs . Decor is very simple and there is a cute little gift shop next door . Kinda makes you feel like you're sitting in grandmas kitchen . They are only open for breakfast and brunch . If you sit outside you might be able to see the Morro Bay Rock ? My experience here was less than stellar. To start it off, the woman who seated us, took our order, and continued to serve us while we were there was just downright rude (I dont remember her name but she had dark brown curly hair and brown eyes). There was no smile when greeting us, didnt ask how we were, she was very curt and short in her words and mannerisms, giving off very unpleasant vibes like we were causing her to do more work just by showing up. Then the biscuits I ordered were very very dry, just absolutely crumbling and falling apart the moment that I touched them. Eating them felt like I needed to gulp down water after every bite. They were atrocious! The biscuits have been going downhill for a few years now, but I've kept trying them in hopes they would improve, even after telling service staff before many times that they're far too dry. Apparently they dont care about the quality of their food anymore. I'm not sure whats happening to this place but it used to be pretty good and one of our favorite stops there in Morro Bay for years! This is a follow up review. My husband and I tried Carla's again after almost 10 years. Unfortunately this review isn't anywhere as flattering as the first one I posted on 11-15-2015. This was such a disappointment on this visit. I once again tried the seafood omelet like I had tried 10 years ago. It was so bad I couldn't even finish it. There was absolutely no flavor and it was dry, and the toast was also dry with no butter on it, and it was cold like everything else. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING!!! My husband got the french toast platter with bacon and 1 egg. The bacon was over done, but he did like the French toast. We thought it came with hash browns because we misunderstood the waiter. We thought he said with hash browns for your side, no it was do you want to add a side. So that being said that was and added upcharge to the bill. Like I said, it sounded like would you like hash browns for your side, not add a side. Sorry Carla's you lost a customer that day. YOUR FOOD HAS GONE DOWN HILL!!!! 5 star for service! 5 star for food! Carla's Country Kitchen knows what they are doing! Serving breakfast and lunch, simple menu with some items like the linguica, Portugese sausage are added. On a Momday morning, this place was packed! We did not have to wait for a table though. My breakfast sandwich: bacon, eggs, cheese on sourdough was delish!
