A pleasant surprise, with a few caveats. The Dutchie in Morro Bay ended up being better than we expected. Cool space, good service, and genuinely great views to go with it. The standouts were the dishes that leaned on freshness. The rockfish ceviche was excellent, and the tataki was really great as well, both clearly built around quality, fresh seafood. Where the menu dipped was on items that seemed like they were working from frozen rather than fresh product. The shrimp croquettes in particular fell flat compared to everything else we ordered. Overall a good experience and worth a visit, especially if you stick to the fresher, more special items on the menu.

Ate here on a sunday early evening. The service was super good, every staff member is helping with every table. Got lots of free refills on a diet Pepsi. I ordered the half dozen oysters and these were great, especially with the horseradish sauce. Also the bistro fries were good, but very oily towards the end. I got the cioppino since it offered so many different seafoods. It was super light and needed a bit more salt. There was plenty of calamari in it, loved the lobster tail as well. I didnt eat the garlic toast that comes with it as I'm gluten free but my partner said the toast and the soup didn't complement each other. They were just both good on their own. We also ordered the local rock cod and this was good. The vegetables could use more seasoning though

The restaurant offers great views and excellent service. I ordered a sandwich, but I also had the chance to try my husband's fish and shrimp with chips. I'm usually not a big seafood fan, but I have to admit that I really enjoyed the fish and chips at the Dutchie. My husband insisted it was because the seafood was so fresh, and after trying it, I believe him.

Dutchie was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The seafood is excellent, especially the specials of the day -- every recommendation was spot-on. I had the sea bass with a crab cake, mushrooms, and spinach, and it was absolutely delicious and perfectly prepared. The restaurant is very kid-friendly, which we truly appreciated, and the views right on the water made the entire meal even more enjoyable. A huge shout-out to Tyler, our waiter -- he was exceptional, attentive without hovering, and his recommendations did not disappoint. We had such a great experience and are already looking forward to coming back.

Clam chowder bread bowls, Local Rock Cod, and Fish, Prawns, & Chips

Saw the other Yelp reviews and everyone was raving about clam chowder bread bowls. We ordered two of them, and the Local Rock Cod + the Fish, Prawns & Chips (subbed with onion rings). Definitely see the hype with the clam chowder bowls--it was absolutely stuffed and filled to the brim (and spilling over) with a healthy amount of clams, potatoes, and other goodies. I thought the cod was decent but lacked a bit of flavor. Fish and chips were good and I liked that there wasn't an excessive amount of batter. I liked the onion rings as well! I wish we came during the day so we could see the views of the ocean, but we'll have to visit again

You can't beat the view especially at sunset. Spectacular views. I had a wonderful Manhattan and the clam chowder in a bread bowl. Server was attentive and kind. Open seating in the bar. Great place by the ocean. If I'm ever driving through again I would definitely stop here again.

We came in on our first night and sat at the bar. I wanted a non-alcoholic drink, and the bartender created a delicious lime-coconut cocktail for me--it was amazing! The service was so warm and attentive that we decided to come back the next night for dinner. I had the clam chowder in a bread bowl, which was absolutely to die for, along with the crudo and shrimp croquettes--everything was fresh and flavorful. We were lucky to have the same bartender again, and the service was just as fantastic as the first night. A+ all around--highly recommend!

Great location, service, and food! We snagged a great table overlooking the bay on a beautiful day. I came for the clam chowder in a bread bowl and it did not disappoint. Very tasty and filling! The crab cakes were also great, perfectly crispy and with lots of great flavor. We managed to grab parking right across the street and checked out all the cool shops after :)

I went to try some Happy Hour items. Loved the calamari and sauces. I also enjoyed 6 fresh Morro Bay Oysters and a house margarita. Nice view of Morro Rock and the bay and the service was very friendly.

When we entered the dog-friendly patio with our little Goldendoodle, Bailey, a large dog seated at the table closest to the only patio entrance lunged toward her and bared its teeth. Since it was the only way in and out, I let the staff know I was concerned. They immediately spoke with the owners, who moved their dogs farther under the table, and after our meal, the owner's father went above and beyond by opening the rope barriers so we could exit another way and avoid walking past them again. Both the father and son were incredibly kind, understanding, and accommodating, which we really appreciated. Once we were settled, we were able to enjoy the beautiful patio. It's a quaint waterfront spot with gorgeous views, a relaxing atmosphere, and the perfect setting to enjoy fresh seafood. Bailey was promptly brought a complimentary bowl of water, and we loved seeing so many other well-behaved dogs enjoying the patio. It's easy to see why this restaurant has such a great reputation for being dog friendly. We ordered the King Salmon Quesadilla special, and it was absolutely delicious. It was packed with generous portions of fresh salmon, plenty of melted cheese, and vegetables, and it was more than enough for my mom and me to share. My brother also really enjoyed the tri-tip sandwich. Everything tasted fresh and was served hot. While we wish the aggressive dogs had been seated somewhere other than the only entrance to the patio, that wasn't the restaurant's fault, and they handled the situation as well as they could. Between the excellent food, beautiful waterfront setting, dog-friendly atmosphere, and genuinely caring owners, we had a great overall experience and would happily return.

My partner got the bread bowl clam chowder and others in my party got the halibut fish tacos. The chicken strips were just basic regular chicken strips, but not bad. Those that had the clam chowder said it was "A+" and some said they really liked the large clam chunks in the chowder. The fish tacos had large pieces of fish and everyone was very happy with their tacos, some saying it was "to die for." We will definitely be back! The patio seating was lovely and they had live music that was such a nice touch. One of the employees was actively going around and cleaning tables and offering bowls of water to the dogs! She was super nice. Many of the patio tables also have small leashes so you could put your dog on that and not have the dog get all wrapped up in their regular leash. Very dog friendly! Highly, highly recommend. Edit to add a few details that are important to me but probably nobody else: 1. It is in easy reach of 2 pokestops and a power spot. 2. It has self-serve pump ketchup so you can get plenty

The clam chowder is something you do not want to miss out on. And the complementary sourdough bread that is included is exquisite. We tend to always be a larger party, somewhere between 8 & 12 attending. This year there was a bit of a snag in that they have few larger tables that can accommodate us, and that was being used when we arrived. The issue was not the fault of the restaurant, just a thing that happened, causing the wait to be significantly longer as those before us were deeply engaged in conversation. The staff made other accommodations for us by creating a large table out of numerous two tops, which we appreciated very much. Our server was Kathy, and she was absolutely delightful; could not have done anything better. She was pleasant, humorous, very accurate and efficient. I let Kathy know it was my brother's birthday and she arranged to have a beautiful chocolate mousse delivered to the table and we sang happy birthday to him, making for an even increased great experience.

To make matters worse, several other staff members kept walking over to his table to grab fries out of his plate while his food was sitting there. The situation went from gross to completely absurd when I asked for extra lime for my tacos. Our server thought it was funny to hide a whole lime under his shirt and roll it onto our table while laughing hysterically. He then pointed to a plate of food he was about to serve to another table, told me to pick the sliced limes off of that customer's plate, and walked it over to them. I felt terrible for the unsuspecting diner who received that food, and it made us completely lose trust in how our own meal was handled. The lack of basic food safety and respect for customers is shocking especially since I'm in the food service industry. I'm thinking the waiter needs to retake his California food handlers exam.
