The mushroom pasta was ok, per my daughter. Our waiter was a talker. Getting low to the table ... he was kind, but I couldn't help get the feeling he was all about getting a good tip.. smooth talker, yet several mistakes, order not placed no refill on our waters after saying he would keep them full. It was just a bit awkward . Unfortunately this did reflect in the tip.(sadly) We finished our meals and hastily departed, declining the dessert menu. We stopped for a late lunch at Dutchman's. We had not been to Morro Bay fo quite some time, and this place had a long line, so we thought it would be good. The view was beautiful. Nice location. The restaurant was clean, and quiet. We ordered fish and chips, which were good, but didn't make it into the great category. My chicken bowl was good, too. It was flavorful, but needed more sauce. Ahi bowl was tasty, but needed fewer wontons and more rice. Overall, service was attentive and food value seemed good for this area. We would return and remember to bring cash. This is a great place to watch a sunset! It only has a couple of tables outside, but a big deck to walk around in. We only came for a drink and the view, but when I asked about the oysters and found they come from this Bay, I ordered some. They were small to medium sized and pricey ($20 for 6) but delicious. A bonus was watching two adorable sea otters playing right off the deck- haven't seen any this close before. Highly recommend trying this place for a sunset dinner! read more

On our first day at Morro Bay my friend and I came to eat here. I had the Sole Petrale w steamed veggies and pilaf rice. Before my dish we ordered a appetizer it was medley of mushrooms in their own buttered broth along w bread and goat cheese. Basically everything was delicious. Both were so delicious we had to get more! Our appetizer was the mushrooms with bread and cheese. Local mushrooms such as lions mane were featured and they were amazing too. I had the locally caught rock fish and it was delicious. My friend loved her fish too.! Tyler recommended the cheesecake with fruit dessert which was uniquely flavorful and moist. I really like that this is along the water with a view of Morro Rock, and they had a few tables outside...perfect for cooling down from a short drive from Paso. It's one of the better looking restaurants in Morro Bay, so we (gf; pooch) decided to give it try. Prices are very reasonable. Service was nice. View, great. We got a fish & chips ($19) and a shrimp & chips ($21) to share. But, sadly, they were just fair. Very greasy with too much breading. We both didn't feel so well after with the oil and all. While Dutchman's is not necessarily a great place for a date due to noise, it is for the view and the food. I ordered oysters on a half shell that included a large variety of toppings. The shells were cleaned well and I couldn't have been happier with this appetizer. Not satisfied with just one appetizer I ordered a bowl (correct; not a cup) of clam chowder with the additional crab meat. There was a reason for the bowl. I didn't finish it in order to have room for my favorite dish - Ciopino. The broth was to die for and the seafood was cooked perfectly, well maybe the calamari could've been slightly less cooked. My son had a cheeseburger and fries, but I wanted to introduce more variety to his palette so I asked if he'd try the chowder and, could! Dutchman's Seafood House is a great place that overlooks Morry Bay. It offers seafood , and sandwiches . They have very friendly staff with a good atmosphere and average prices. One complaint was that we ate here on a weekday at 11 am, so it was pretty quiet. But it took a while to get our meal. Also, the waitress brought the wrong food and she kept forgetting everything we asked for, so this was frustrating. We went on a rainy day so we couldn't see much from the window view. read more

Our server came out quickly and was friendly. We ordered a few cups of clam chowder that came out immediately and I have to say we both were very impressed! The bloody Marys were very tasty and exactly what we wanted. Lastly, the firecracker shrimp came out and we wern't as impressed. Had a surprisingly delightful dinner here. I'm usually disappointed by the mediocre offerings along the water but this was great. Food was solid. Service was excellent. We got the seafood tower, fried calamari, fish and chips, and a shockingly good persimmon salad. Calamari was excellent - light and crispy. Perfect beer batter on the fish and chips. The oysters on the seafood tower were also excellent. Next time I'd probably just order oysters and not the full tower. We weren't fans of the ceviche but the salmon spread was good. My friend got the clam chowder but added fresh crab on top. Our waitress was super nice ... however we were being rushed as they were getting ready for the dinner shift. It's kind of annoying when the busboys are eyeballing you rushing you to finish. We drive from Southern CA to Northern CA often and when we do, we take the 101 so that we can detour through Morro Bay, and the amazing clam chowder from the Dutchman. We order oysters, ahi nachos, clam chowder, and their version of fish and chips...all tremendous and flavorful. The location is on the water, and both lunch and dinner offer appropriate ambiance (imo). The young male host was kind,, "party of 2,,.great I can seat you right over here" as he grabs 2 menus a woman walked over and said "just so you know we have a 90 minute table limit". I immediately responded "well I hope lunch doesn't take more than 90 minutes". Host sat us. Left the table and then we walked out! Mind you it was not a table on the water, but set back a row. I had no intention of staying there more than the time it takes to order and eat lunch, but her approach was so offputting. Initially wanted to try either The Galley or Giovanni's Fish Market, but one didn't open until later and the other was having some issues in the kitchen. Ordered cioppino, snapper, shrimp cocktail, clam chowder, and grilled cheese sandwich (for kids). Cioppino had really good broth and came with numerous seafood, like prawns, calamari, clams, mussels, and half lobster tail. Portion was pretty good too. Snapper tasted pretty good. It was pan roasted with some vinaigrette sauce to give it little more flavor than just simply adding salt & pepper, like some places. Even the rice pilaf and veggies on this dish tasted good. Presentation was vibrant with different mix of veggies. Shrimp cocktail and clam chowder were pretty standard, but slightly better tasting than ones I had in the past. Service was good and attentive. Dear Dutchman, I like your smooth, relaxed room and your helpful servers, but much of your food disappoints. In my two visits, I have enjoyed your cioppino with its zesty broth and good selection and presentation of seafood. I am less excited about pretty much everything else that I've tried on your menu. The clam chowder, for instance, needs a serious overhaul. Soggy chunky celery? Not good. Please rinse the sand from the clams. Nearly shattered my teeth. The seafood stock or whatever you do for flavor, comes across as a mild creamy mush. Help! More flavor please. And not the neon pile of paprika or whatever that is that sits on top. Of the three or four clam chowders that I've had in Morro Bay, yours easily ranks last. (Even the oyster crackers were stale) The Panko crusted Parmesan halibut was pretty good, if a little dry. The garlic mashed potatoes are welcome and somewhat creamy. I didn't taste much garlic. The mixed vegetables are undercooked. I guess that's better than overcooked, but still the broccoli and carrots were too crunchy and tasted rushed out the door. The Seabass, a special, was serviceable, and OK. More interesting is the flavorful rice pilaf, which complements the fish. TLDR: Cioppino is good, but the two fish entrees are forgettable. I really liked our recent server, Josie. She had solid, helpful answers and details about the food and wine. Your prices are reasonable, service is attentive, and I really like the vibe of the main room. I wish I liked your food more.
