The short of it: Food: 7/10 Service: 6/10 Atmosphere: 6/10 I went to harbor hut with a group of 9 and they were able to seat us almost immediately. First thing I noticed was that it was quite warm inside for most of the time we were there. The restaurant was very pretty though. The bread they started us with was quite good. Once we placed our orders it took them 40ish minutes to bring the food. The waitress provided refills on drinks to most of the table, but not me for some reason (little did she know I was the one writing the yelp review! lol) My partner got the clam chowder and said it was just "okay." She said it was a personal preference thing though because she just doesn't like thick chowder. One other in my party did like the chowder. I got the regular fish and chips and they were quite good. Nice steak fries with it. Unfortunately they only initially provide you with one little cup of ketchup. This came with a side of pineapple coleslaw, which I was really excited about. It was a let down. The pineapple was flavorless and so the slaw just tasted like regular coleslaw, which was fine I guess. The serving sizes of all of the meals our party got were quite large, which is good because of how expensive things were. Surprised that I haven't written a review of the Harbor Hut before, but here goes!! I was able to get one of the convenient handicapped spots. Music was a bit loud, nice fresh flower in vase on table, rotating fans, wood table that was not sticky, window seat with nice view, bench seat, bright at table but shades if desired, bar in another part of the restaurant, no distracting people walking ny the window, right on the bay. Sticky wood-covered menu, mostly fish and seafood, no chicken strips, ordered cheeseburger and fries, no tomato and add mayo. They didn't ask how I wanted it cooked. Salad is house greens, not crunchy so I passed. Soda bottomless, but Pepsi products. Ketcup came on the plate, nice thick napkins (but I needed more), no may!! Refill of soda slow, the busser ended up refilling for me (thanks!!) but no more ice. Fries were great, wish there were more though - I had to pace myself while I ate the burger. Burger was juicy and the bun, although dry, held together. I felt a bit rushed at the end but ordered a Mud Pie to go. They have a 2.99% credit card fee, which was a bit confusing on the menu and pre-receipt. I am going to have to start carrying cash!! A bit dingy, the Harbor Hut is located on the water of Morro Bay and has a great view of the water and if you're lucky, otters! Our waitress was great and made sure to check up on us and made sure we felt welcome. The food was pretty typical Central Coast fare. My sister got the clam chowder and bread bowl and loved it! My other sister got the fish platter and I got the prawns. Over all the food was good but I'd like to point out that there is a difference between fried and greasy. The double fried French fries were crispy and great taste, the battered fish was just greasy. Also, if you're like me and popped in because it says "steak" on the sign please be aware that steak is only on the dinner menu. read more

Food was fine, but carefully scrutinize your bill if you are paying by credit card. Extremely suspect behavior is happening here. On a ~$500 bill (10 ppl), they: 1- Charged a higher total for paying by card. (Ok, but bear with me) 2- Charged 18% on the higher cc total. 3- Added an ADDITIONAL credit card fee % on that higher cc total + 18%. (What?) Nothing added up. There were invisible charges everywhere and final totals made no sense. Nothing added up and after asking for clarification with waitress, manager guy (?) came by and was extremely rude and condescending. He refused to talk to us, and I can only describe his demeanor as a guilty and defensive man who had been caught. We are reasonable people, spent a lot of money here and have been coming for years. Great service, nice atmosphere, but the food needs work. 1) Shrimp scampi: rating 1/10. Disappointingly small 5 shrimp on a plate. The sides took up most of the plate. So essentially I paid for a $32 plate of veggies and fried potato cake with a side of shrimp. The service was excellent. During our seating had a number of people check in with us to see if they could do anything else. Hubby had the fried seafood platter which he loved. I had clam chowder and crab cakes. The clam chowder wasn't as hot as I would have liked - but I was hungry and didn't want to send it back. The crab cakes were crispy, light and really tasty! Terrible service. When we arrived, there were two other tables occupied in the restaurant. We got our beverages and the server came by to take our order shortly thereafter. It took over 45 minutes to get our food, even after we mentioned it to one of the staff members. We had real easy plates to prepare fish and chips and crabcakes... To top things off when the server came by at the conclusion of our dinner and asked if we wanted dessert, we said no thank you we were ready to go, and while I was still eating, she decided to clear the plates... I guess it was a good thing I was down to my last bite... The food was good, but again it was just fish and chips. As far as the service , there is absolutely no explanation why we had to wait so long for our food and no apology or explanation was offered. A little disappointed in the rules here but I'm after some sirloin steak for my birthday. They serve Pepsi products and will not allow a customer to bring in a Coke when every other restaurant obliges when they don't offer the brand a customer is not only loyal to for the taste experience but for health reasons as well. There were 11 of us. 6 children 5 adults. All of the plates were horrible with the exception of the fish and chips. And beware even if more than half your table are children they add an 18% gratuity to your bill. 3 separate families. Yet all of our tickets had an 18% gratuity. You may say that is reasonable but we stated to the hostess we would sit separately. You should be willing to tip whatever you feel the server deserves. Smh read more

Three of our birthday party ordered the patty melt. None of the three even started the second half. The "thousand island" sauce was much too spicy. My partner's was soggy as soon as it was served and when I took a bit afterwards at home the leftover went straight into the trash bin. Too spicy, too soggy, patty was overcooked. The salad I had was ok, but featured teeny shrimp which was surprising given the $26 price. I rang the manager and his only concern was if staff asked if things were ok. Frankly, the three with the crummy patty melts simply do not want to inconvenience staff. Manager essentially cared not a whit that the spicy sauce was simply too spicy for all three. Heck, no happy birthday wish, lol, even though the reservation was made specifically for a "birthday". Harbor Hut has been in decline for some years now. The four of us first ate there in the 1970s, and will simply go to Windows on the Water, Roses or Chowa in the future. read more

Harbor Hut is a favorite when we're in Morro Bay; this is not our first time. The fried options are very good. The salmon is a 4 out of five, but skip the pilaf for another choice. The clam chowder is also a favorite. There are very many things I would avoid, but the bruschetta is one of them. I mean, why would we expect good bruschetta at a seafood place? Soggy bread, little to no olive oil, just not good bruschetta. I'll rave about the oysters though. If you live then on the half shell they are big, tasty, a not overly priced. This is our fav restaurant in Morro Bay!!! We love the tiki/surf flair to the decor. The views of the harbor and Morro Rock!!!! We've had various servers (Dylan & Reese) that are amazing! So friendly and efficient!!!! The food and drinks are also great! We really love the big kahuna Mai tai's! On our last visit, we had the stuffed jalapeño and crabcake appetizers, and they were both beautifully presented and equally delicious! Spent over $200 here expecting great service and good vibes, but unfortunately, the experience was anything but. We ordered a variety of food for the entire table to share, yet our server, Malia, was extremely rude and unprofessional. Instead of treating us with respect, she and another staff member were overheard talking down on our group simply because not everyone was ordering individual meals. That kind of attitude is completely unacceptable--especially at a place with premium pricing. If you're spending that kind of money, you expect to be treated with basic courtesy. It was so sad. We walked in at 3:40 and we ordered the seafood grill. We were so excited thinking we were gonna get some fish. It came with one scallop two shrimps one little tiny, 3 inch piece of calamari and 13 inch piece of cod. And coleslaw. That was it. Nothing else. They didn't even offer us bread. And they gave us paper napkins and the people across from us came in 10 minutes later and they got luxurious napkins made of linen and they got bread when I asked for Bread they said no they said it's the lunch menu that you're choosing from and it was the same price as dinner menu and the people right across from us got the bread and we didn't but the food was nasty. It's not worth it. It's a beautiful view. I think people go in there for the view. We were disabled. All three of us are disabled, and it was very hurtful to be treated like this. Go somewhere else. I rarely give bad reviews rarely I try to give people the benefit of the doubt, but I asked several waitresses for Bread and nobody helped us and it was 10 minutes difference, but we paid the same price as the dinner menu. read more

This is a little gem. We have been here twice in the past few months and our food was delicious both times. We split the filet last night (mushrooms on the side) and everything was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The spinach salad was amazing. He answered all our questions and took us on the balcony so we could get a perfect photo with the best back drop. He deserves 10/5 stars! I would go back just for him! We had the calamari to start which was fantastic! My mom had one of the pastas with prawns. It was light and delicious. The portions are huge. I gave it a 4/5 stars due to my crab being watery and lacking in flavor. I would come back though since the rest of our food was great and again loved the service!
