This was my third visit to Tognazzini's Dockside in about three years and my second visit within the past year. Unfortunately, each visit has felt a little less impressive than the one before it, and this most recent experience was disappointing enough that I probably would not return. Parking is usually easy, and I have never had to walk more than a couple of minutes. There are also a couple of EV spaces nearby. When my girlfriend and I walked inside, the restaurant felt unusually warm, humid, and stuffy. It was uncomfortable enough that we briefly considered leaving. We chose outdoor seating instead, but that comes with its own drawbacks. The tables are exposed to the afternoon sun, pedestrians walk just feet away, vehicles pass close by, and the working dock is nearby, so you hear forklifts, unloading equipment, and active fishing operations throughout the meal. We started with the Oysters Rockefeller, which I have ordered on all three visits. They were good and are honestly one of the main reasons I have continued returning. They are not easy to find where I live, and this version is enjoyable, even if it is not on the level of what I have had in places like New Orleans. My girlfriend ordered the clam chowder with bacon. We have been comparing clam chowders around the Central Coast, and unfortunately this one ranked last among the several we have tried so far. She described it as average and nothing memorable. I ordered the steamer clams, and this was easily the biggest disappointment. The very first clam I ate had noticeable grit in it, and unfortunately that continued through most of the bowl. I would estimate that the majority of the clams had some amount of sand or grit, which made them unpleasant to eat. I also found one clam that remained completely closed after cooking. I left it untouched. At a restaurant specializing in seafood, I expected more careful preparation and inspection. The broth was also surprisingly bland. I ended up adding hot sauce just to give it more flavor. As I worked through the broth, I also noticed three small hairs. I cannot say where they came from, but finding multiple hairs in the same dish was understandably concerning and further reduced my appetite. The service did not help. Our server took our order, delivered drinks and food, and eventually brought the check, but there was very little interaction between those points. No one checked whether we needed anything or asked how the food was going. That was especially frustrating because if someone had checked in, I would have had an opportunity to mention the problems with the clams while I was eating them. Overall, the Oysters Rockefeller were still good, but almost everything else about this visit was disappointing: the uncomfortable indoor environment, noisy outdoor seating, average chowder, gritty clams, bland broth, cleanliness concerns, and minimal service. I have enjoyed this restaurant more in the past, but after this experience, I think there are other places around Morro Bay where I would rather spend my money. read more

We stopped in for a quick meal during a visit to Morro Bay and sat near the window, but the experience was completely ruined by the appalling lack of hygiene and unprofessional behavior. Right across from our table, our server was sitting at a two-top eating his food with his hands and licking his fingers. Without washing his hands, he got right up and went to the soda machine and from the soda machine yelled across to out table asking us what we wanted to drink and dropped them off at our table! To make matters worse, several other staff members kept walking over to his table to grab fries out of his plate while his food was sitting there. The situation went from gross to completely absurd when I asked for extra lime for my tacos. Our server thought it was funny to hide a whole lime under his shirt and roll it onto our table while laughing hysterically. He then pointed to a plate of food he was about to serve to another table, told me to pick the sliced limes off of that customer's plate, and walked it over to them. I felt terrible for the unsuspecting diner who received that food, and it made us completely lose trust in how our own meal was handled. The lack of basic food safety and respect for customers is shocking especially since I'm in the food service industry. I'm thinking the waiter needs to retake his California food handlers exam. There's a lot of hype about this spot and how good the food is so we had to try it. Overall, the food is pretty good but not sure I would say it lived up to the hype. Fresh seafood is what does the trick here although I will say my shrimp cocktail was pretty flavorless. I ordered the grilled halibut and it did not disappoint and the fries were delish too. There is live entertainment and plenty of sightseeing and seating. Counter service and an assortment of beer and wine in addition to bottles and fountain drinks. It didn't take too long for my order to be called and staff keeps up with cleaning tables. There's a restroom nearby too. read more

They offer a nice selection of local wines and beers, perfect for enjoying by the waterfront. The highlight of our visit was the barbecued oysters, cooked in a rich herb butter sauce. Located across from the three smoke stacks on the Embarcedaro. Our server was really personable and helped make our experience memorable. Ambiance fit the location with an old school briny feel. My husband started with a cup of clam chowder that was delicious. My side salad with mixed greens was fresh with carrots, cucumber slices and beets. Dinner was fine. We were sad to see they ran out of vegetables as a side. I am not a fan of tomato slices so wish there were other substitutions available. The food was amazing! Best raw oysters I've ever had! I ordered a dozen raw oysters, a Dockside Shrimp cocktail, and the clam chowder. Everything was fresh and delicious! The oysters were definitely the star though! Dockside's own bottled hot sauce has great flavor and pairs well with the oysters. My family members ordered the chef special with a variety of fried seafood and the Shrimp & Chips entree. Everyone enthusiastically loved their meal. The restaurant is charming and has reasonable pricing for menu items. They also offer non-seafood options if not everyone in your party is into that. The staff were friendly, attentive and courteous. My family regularly visits the area and before we even left the restaurant we were already talking about returning here to eat next time. We found this place by accident when we were visiting Morrow Bay and wanted to eat at an oyster restaurant. I was able to park a little way down in the handicapped spot becasue the two in front of the restaurant were already taken. There was a little bit of a wait to get seated, but was seated by the window. View is of the dock, which makes sense given the name of the restaurant!! While I waited to order, one of the waiters tapped my window-side shoulder as he walked by, you know that old trick. Weird. They have good napkins, which I appreciate. I ordered a cheeseburger and fries with a bottomless soda (Pepsi family). They asked how I wanted the burger cookes, which is quite uncommon, so I said medium-rare!! They said their salads were mixed greens so I didn't order one. The burger was charred on the outside, which made me a little nervous about the inside. And, indeed it was dry inside. Why ask if you aren't going to cook as the customer desires? The fries needed ketchip and salt to taste correct. Mayo and ketchup on the burger, but had to really work at getting the ketchup out of the bottle, had to use my knife!! The bun was big and toasted hard. Once eaten it compressed flat. They were slow to refill the soda but at least they gave me lots of ice with it. I was, again, disappointed by this restaurant. While the server was pleasant enough there was a mix up with our order. She brought extra bread and the wrong pasta dish for my eight year old. I had specify asked for a children's menu. When the check came I asked about the dish I was only given a partial credit because my daughter ate the dish and then the server said "but you got free bread." We were traveling along Pacific Coast Highway, and I always loved Morro Bay as a kid so I had to show it to my friend who was traveling with me. After looking at the otters and enjoying the spectacle that is Morro Rock, we decided to get something to eat. We looked at various eateries and chose this one. It was pretty good. I ordered the fish sandwich and my friend ordered the Pasta Primavera. The portions were generous, and the service was very friendly. My fish sandwich was served dry, and it was more pan fried than battered and fried, but the tartar sauce was tasty and the fish seasoned well and not fishy tasting. It was a lot of bread and very filling. My friend thought her Pasta Primavera was ok. She said the sauce wasn't as garlicky as she would have liked, and it was a little soupy. The garlic bread was only toasted on one side, and so the side that was to the pasta got soggy. She said the pasta was cooked well, and the vegetables were good. So ok but nothing special. Overall, a quiet pleasant spot to enjoy a meal after a long drive and a walk, enjoying nature. Morro Bay is still one of my favorite places, and I know I'll come back again when I can. read more

RUDE! My husband and I came in and were there no more than 20 seconds... the host/server looked at us and rudely said "I'm trying to seat you" with plenty of attitude and expression. She brought us to a table and then threw our menus down, I looked at my husband and said, "No". Why would I want to sit down and eat with such a welcoming..... Mind you, prior to this, I was outside waiting for two workers to come out the door and they were soooo nice! I thought it'd be polite to wait for them and then I would go in.... The BBQ Oysters had Garlic Butter, Lemon Slices, asked for crackers, plus they brought a variety of sauces for add ons. We ordered the half a dozen, but put in a second order because they were so good. If you want delicious BBQ oysters Yummy! The Clam Chowder Bread Bowl did not disappoint. We came here specifically for their fresh caught seafood and chowders and were not disappointed. We went to the restaurant portion as opposed to the seaside shack as we needed a place to sit and gather our bearings a bit.  The place exudes classic diner vibes, if diners had fresh seafood and a view of a giant rock island off the coast. The chowder cured us of our hangover and the seafood platter filled us up without weighing us down too much. Definitely a worthwhile stop and the food was solid. read more

We arrived soon after the restaurant opened on a Tuesday. We had a table with a lovely view of the Rock, but my tall husband had to be careful about the light fixture overhead that threatened to brain him every time he stood. Service was okay. I got the clam chowder bread bowl, and it was fantastic, everything I hope for. My husband had the five piece fried fish. While the fish was undoubtedly fresh, the breading was rubbery. My son had the macaroni and cheese; it was oddly soupy, which comes across in the picture. So, an uneven meal experience for us. read more

This was recommended to us as our Airbnb host suggested. Anyways there was plenty of room as it was Tuesday. They ONLY have wine and limited beer. (MILLER lite and mich ultra) So we both went with a fish of the dayand house salad. The salad was excellent fresh and simple. The fish specials were....fishy and drowning in butter or the other ingredients. We were a bit surprised due to this being adjacent to a fishing dock. We Visited Morro Bay last month. I was so excited to see the Morro Rock. It was so beautiful out there. I'm also surprised with all the restaurants nearby there's a lot to choose from! With all the restaurants nearby, we chose TOGNAZZINI'S DOCK SIDE to dine in . We walked inside the restaurant and there was a line, but the line moved quick. And we also got lucky to be seated by the window where we can see the Morro Rock! We love Seafood, so it was easy for us to choose what we wanted from their Menu. We ordered: *SEAFOOD PASTA *LINGUINI and CLAM PASTA *CAPTAINS COMBO PLATTER & CHIPS *OLLALIEBERRY PIE Our food came quick and also with good portions. And I'm impressed with how much Seafood was on my Husband's and Son's Pasta. My Son's SEAFOOD PASTA has Scallops, Shrimps, and Pacific cod with Marinara sauce. His Pasta also came with Toasted bread, and with a generous amount of Seafood on his pasta, my Son enjoyed his food and he said it was a good one. My husband had the LINGUINI & CLAM PASTA and it came with a toasted bread too, and it was delicious, it had a lot of Clams on it. And I had the CAPTAIN'S COMBO PLATTER & CHIPS, it has fried Shrimps, Scallops, Pacific cod, Calamari, and a choice of either Oysters or Clams (I chose the Oysters). The sizes of the Seafood on this is a good size, but batter on it was just alright. Our dessert the, OLLIEBERRY PIE, was also just okay. The service was great, the food was good, and I like their Pastas with the Seafoods! Parking is okay, we didn't have a hard time to look for one. Also, TOGNAZZINI's DOCKSIDE has another location just a few step away, and it's called TOGNAZZINI'S DOCSIDE TOO. The other resto is more for quick bites and drinks, but it has a Full view of the Morro Rock while dining, but they don't have the Full menu. If you want the full Menu with Pasta and more, then go here in TOGNAZZINI'S DOCKSIDE. So remember, there's 2 of them, "TOGNAZZINI'S DOCKSIDE" & "TOGNAZZINI'S DOCKSIDE TOO" and they're just a few steps away from each other. read more

My rating would be a 3.5 We ordered the clam chowder which had a good flavor. On a personal preference I would've liked the clam meat to be half the size it's served as. My shrimp scampi had the best garlic and lemon flavor, NOT dry at all the sauce was dripping ! Loved it. The combo platter was a sample of salmon, shrimp, scallops, halibut, and Fish of the Day. Allll of the fish was cooked perfectly and I would get it again. But I can pass on the onion rings next time. read more

Always a go to when visiting Morro Bay! And honestly a reason in itself to go visit Morro Bay! I genuinely dream about their BBQ oysters. Service is always great and their employees are so kind. This was the perfect place to have lunch! The weather was beautiful, and I loved how we could hear the busker from Tognazzinis Dockside Too from where we were sitting. They are dog friendly, our Bella stayed under our table while we ate lunch, they even brought her a bowl of water and treats!!!! The food was delicious, we all finished our food, no need to go plates! Our waitress was adorable and attentive even with our Bella. The only thing I want them to consider is putting signs outside informing customers tables are not first come, first serve and to first check in with hostess. read more
