Disappointing experience and misleading advertising. We went in with a coupon that explicitly stated "Buy One, Get One Free Wine Tasting" at the Moonstone location. However, when we tried to redeem it, the owner refused to honor it, claiming the deal was actually for a completely different location. We showed them the coupon, which clearly and indisputably listed the Moonstone address, but they still wouldn't budge. It's incredibly frustrating to deal with a business that won't stand behind its own promotions. If you're going to put your specific location on a coupon, you should honor it. There are a few places on Moonstone to view and enjoy the ocean. Madeline's is a great addition to the area. The server we had was top notch and a perfect salesman. When people would order a glass of wine, he would suggest ordering the bottle which would be cheaper in the long run. He sold a bottle after a bottle after bottle, including one to us. We walk the boardwalk on Moonstone Beach in Cambria every time we visit for several weeks. I have noticed the small gatherings at Madeline's on Moonstone but never stopped in to check on the business. Yesterday after a drive up the coast and a visit to the elephant seals, we drove down Moonstone Drive and I parked across from Madeline's on Moonstone. My wife was surprised and asked why I stopped. I said, "Let's go have a glass of wine." It was a welcome surprise. The place is small with a few tables inside and a nice glass enclosed outside area with seats facing the ocean. That's where the bar is located and where you order. It's a nice place to sit, have a drink (wine, beer or soft drinks) and a snack or meal. I ordered the savory tart to go with our Pinot Grigio's. The service was good on a busy Saturday afternoon. The place is very dog friendly. The tart was really a quiche and was delicious. I think most vineyards/wine tasting places closed around 5, but this place was specifically open later, which is perfect. I was able to enjoy the glorious ocean sunset while drinking wine - There was only 1 server. He was very friendly and professional. Knowledgeable about the wine. He knew when to engage the patrons into conversation and when to step back. - Patio was dog friendly - If I was a local, I think this would be a great date spot Cons: - Patio seating, so you're subject to the weather. And never knew they had a tasting room in the area even though we've stayed numerous of time along the boardwalk. Mainly if we were doing any tasting, it would just be in Paso Robles wine country. It's a small tasting area, on the patio area overlooking the beach. Nice view is always a plus. They offer a few wine in the tasting which mainly are form the area which is nice. Food is available to accompany the tasting. Dog friendly which is great as well. Compared to the winery tasting room, felt like we got more knowledge there versus her. I want to start this review by saying overall Madeline's on Moonstone is overall a very nice experience. I also want to say that I am a huge fan of their restaurant on Main Street and have been going there for many years. The location is lovely albeit a little windy and is a great place to have some wine and snacks while looking at the gorgeous coast. The service is professional and attentive. So where does it fall down? The food. I tried two items on my visit. The shrimp diavolo tacos and the savory tart of the day. The tacos were made with fresh lovely ingredients and even the tortillas were nice, however the really strong sauce absolutely killed it. It was like something out of a bottle was poured on. When I told the waiter he very graciously took it back and offered me something else and I got the tart. It was a cheese and asparagus quiche. Again the ingredients were fresh and lovely but it was heavy, kind of sweet, really dense and the crust was chewy and mushy rather than crisp. I knew it had been microwaved and unfortunately tasted like that. This is surprising and disappointing from Madeline's whereas the food from the main restaurant has always been from really good to great. Perhaps some of the other items on the menu are much better but these happen to be my choices that day. I hope the restaurant takes this review as it is meant to help them improve something that is already good and make it great. read more
