Had a wine tasting here the other day to celebrate a special anniversary and had a fabulous time! Taylor was our guide and was knowledgeable, personable, and so sweet! The wines themself are fabulous at DAOU, we went home with a Pinot and a reserve Rosé. The property itself is absolutely stunning with gorgeous views of Paso Robles. A bonus at this winery is they offer quite a few food options which was great as we had just drove about 4 hours from LA and were starving. The Margherita pizza did not disappoint and was made in the outdoor pizza oven. I can't recommend DAOU enough for a tasting in a magical setting. We'll definitely be back! read more

I went here because I enjoyed every Cabernet I've ever had from Paso Robles... with one exception... DAOU! And I wanted to find out why... And after a drive that reminded me of the beginning of "The Shining" with all of the winding roads, I arrived, sat down overlooking the valley, and told my wine guy flat out what I started this review with. He was slightly taken aback and treated me with a "let's change your mind" attitude. As I waited for my first sample, I couldn't help but notice the view. It was the best view of all of the wineries I've visited and based on the other reviews, I'm not wrong. They used their plot of land well to Wow their guests... I sampled quite a few wines and liked a lot of them. The ones here are apparently different than the DAOU that's in most stores and restaurants. That's a shame actually... I was here in the morning so it was freezing cold out. I'd recommend for a morning tasting, bring a jacket or something (I was there in May). But as the morning neared its end, the sun warmed things up. My wine guy brought some crackers also as I was feeling a bit queasy from guzzling wine so early. Nice touch and prevented the hallways from looking like "The Shining" too. I also enjoyed watching and playing with Cheetoh, the cat who hung around the outside. He was pretty chill and friendly. He followed my wine guy around and let me pet him (the cat, not the wine guy). I'm glad I went and was upfront about why I was there. I think he appreciated it too and he did change my mind about DAOU. I get that it's a business so you gotta sell to the masses, but make some of these others available to us common folk. If I'm ever in Paso Robles again, I'm making sure to make a reservation here and get one of those wood fired pizzas! And maybe they'll take my idea and make a Lizzie Bordeaux! WOW. That was the first thing out of our mouths walking into this vineyard and it never once left. Our afternoon at Daou felt like a slice of heaven. The views are to die for, the breeze is lovely at the top of the hill, and everything from the ice cold water to your never empty glasses are a sign of excellent service. The food menu was also delicious -- we picked up a pizza and the chocolate dessert. We were so impressed, we left with 4 bottles... it's just basic math with the tasting fee waived ;) Also vowed to be back to sign up for a membership on our next visit. We had a great time visiting the Daou winery in Paso Robles. The views are spectacular and once we were seated, we felt relaxed and taken care of. We had a choice of a $50 tasting, which would be waived with purchase of 2 bottles. Instead, we each opted for the $95 tasting experience. The food was beautifully presented and delicious. The plate included a small steak, lobster roll and lamb chop. The chocolate dessert really hit the spot. We enjoyed tasting the different wines. We visited Daou on the recommendation of a friend. After spending three days exploring the Napa and Sonoma wine regions, we were looking for one experience that checked all the boxes: a stately property, spectacular views, impeccable service, and, of course, outstanding wine. Daou seemed to have the potential to deliver all of it. Unfortunately, we almost left shortly after arriving. We had a 3:15 reservation and arrived early, as requested. Upon entering the property, we were greeted by Stacy, who offered us a chilled rosé and gave us a somewhat hurried explanation of the wine before taking us to our table. The table she selected was a large table for six inside--for the two of us. She didn't ask whether we had a seating preference; she simply sat us there. We questioned the choice and pointed out the numerous available tables outside, where the views were clearly part of the experience. Stacy said she needed to check and then walked away, leaving us standing in the middle of the room. Ten minutes later, we were still standing there. We looked at each other, each knowing exactly what the other was thinking: Is this really happening? And is this somewhere we want to spend our money? At that point, we decided to find out what was going on. As we walked back toward the entrance, another staff member graciously greeted us, apologized for the confusion, and immediately took us outside, asking which table we would like. It was a complete turnaround. Shortly after we were seated, Dom greeted us and reset the entire experience. Although relatively new to the role, he was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely interested in making sure we enjoyed our visit. He explained what we could expect from the tasting and asked if we would like something to eat. We opted for the Messa, which was beautifully presented and, more importantly, delicious. Throughout the tasting, Dom thoughtfully guided us through the wines and regularly checked in to make sure everything was to our liking. The wines were excellent, the food was wonderful, and the setting was everything we had hoped for--beautiful, polished, and with spectacular views. So, while our initial impression left a lot to be desired, Dom, the Messa, the setting, and the wines ultimately helped ease the angst of those first ten minutes. It was a rocky start to what turned into a very enjoyable afternoon--and a reminder that sometimes one person can completely change an experience. read more

Really cute cats around, and the food is extremely delicious. We thought the service was just alright. It was a bummer there are no aerial wine options. We have been members for years and have dropped memberships at many other wineries but never want to drop Daou because of how great it is. Everyone that works here is incredible but we want a special shoutout to Yhashecia- he is the best server we have ever had. He is personable, tentative, knowledgable, funny, and makes your time at Daou feel so special. I am still thinking about the service he provided us and it was weeks ago. Yhashecia was incredible and every other server we have had was also great. For food, we loved their curry salad and pizzas. They pair perfectly with the wine as well. We tasted 6 wines and love reds...all of them were good but the Soul of a Lion especially stands out....an excellent wine. We also had their chopped salad and beef tartar and both were delicious. While the location is gorgeous, our experience at DAOU was less than ideal as a result of their lackluster service. Admittedly, the Wine is well-made and pours are more than plentiful for $50, but sitting in the sun at 90F+ loses its charm quickly. Arriving early for out reservation we were asked to wait out front, our first of five tastes handed to us while we walked around. After this we were seated, and pointedly ignored for over 15 minutes by two female servers. No water, not even a nod or smile. It turns out "our server" called out, so a younger male eventually stepped up and took over, but still no water for another 15 minutes. All five tastes were notably poured in the same un-rinsed glass, contaminating flavors and clouding nuance. read more

If you don't come for the wine, you come for the views. This winery is just serene and I can see there is a high price point for the tastings given how curated everything is. I've been to Daou a couple of times now, and it's quickly becoming one of my favorite spots in Paso. My mom loves wine, especially Daou bottles from Costco, so I decided to bring her here for the full experience. Definitely make reservations because it can get busy. The first time I came, we had to park in their lot and take a shuttle up to the winery, but this time we were able to drive straight to the vineyard with no shuttle needed. The tasting flight is $50 per person, and if you buy three bottles they'll waive one tasting fee, which is nice. Their wines are really good--super smooth--but the bottles are definitely on the pricier side. We also ordered food and it wasn't bad at all. I really enjoyed the margherita pizza, and the cheese and charcuterie board was pretty good too. The vineyard itself is beautiful with amazing views, and they're both dog friendly and baby friendly, which I really appreciate. Overall, it's always a great experience here and I'll for sure be back again. read more

I came here for a tasting with 5 other girls on a Saturday afternoon. It was the perfect experience. No notes. We got to try a variety of wine. The sommelier was knowledgeable and explained each wine very well. I've tried other wineries in the area but thought the wines here were more complex and palatable. We also got the mezze platter, which was the perfect healthy-ish snack. The vibes and views were both immaculate. What a new years it was! We visited Daou with 8 adults and 5 babies under 1. Not sure if people appreciated that but the babies were all so good. With baby brain I can't remember our servers name, it was close to Oregon? Oregano? I promise to not sound rude, I really wish I could remember her name because she was honestly absolutely amazing. She made us feel so welcome, she was so chatty, she was so knowledgeable with our tasting. We have been to Daou several times and this was our favorite experience because of her. It was raining but still so cozy for the holiday! We sat out on the back patio and had the best time. My husband and I actually got engaged there in 2020 so this was extra special because we brought our baby for NYE. We purchased the Rose which was the first on the tastings menu. Soul of the Lion and The Pessimist is one of our favorites. Might be a little pricey but I can assure you it is worth it. Soul of the Lion was actually on this last tasting menu so we appreciated that. We also tried a new port that we had not had before which was awesome! Daou might be one of the prettiest wineries in Paso, so we highly recommend checking it out! Today Ken greeted us promptly and even though they were not seating outside he let us take our glass of wine to outside to enjoy the view which is spectacular. The tasting lineup always showcases the quality DAOU is known for, and one of the great perks is that they often have several library wines available that can be requested and served by the glass. What I appreciate most about DAOU is how they've managed to maintain a small, family-style atmosphere despite being acquired by a larger company a few years ago. Quality/Quantity - What a BEAUTIFUL space, place! So "Napa" like! This was the only "busy" winery we went to on this 6 winery tour trip. And in my humble opinion, it was not that busy?!?! Or maybe they were going to have a special event later and needed the team to set up? Or wanted us regular guests to leave...? This was also the only winery to have a guard at the lower gate... We did not have reservations, as our experience so far was that we were the only guests/only customers at the previous 3 wineries. But security said they were booked?!?! He then called a few people and was able to get us bottle service, to which I said no problem. When we got to the top, there was another employee directing parking traffic and the main lot was full. A door greeter offered us a glass of Rose as we walked in. Just like my favorite Livermore winery, Murrieta's Well. So we were offered to taste some wines at the wine bar to make sure we liked the bottle we planned to drink. Amazing service. So sorry I can't find his name. Anyways, he asked a few questions of my wine preferences and brought out two bottles for me to taste. I gave feedback and he then brought out two more bottles. So we tasted and tasted and tasted... Then in the conversation, he learned that my daughter prefers Cabs (which I have cut back on significantly since I've stopped collecting), so two more bottles came out. Amazing service! I even tried a splash of their Sauvignon Blanc. Interesting, I guess we are still Napa loyal because the conclusion was that our $100 bottle we purchased was grown in Petaluma... Atmosphere - Beautiful winery, see all my pictures. I especially like all the separate, private and semi private spaces. We had the entire lower part of the winery to ourselves! So full?!?! I also noticed the team setting up for an event in one of the outdoor spaces. Open 7 days a week from 10am to 5pm. Service - See above, exceeded our expectations. Price - $97 + very generous tip. This location is picturesque beautiful, the staff give you the VIP treatment the moment you arrive. There is indoor and outdoor seating. I recommend outdoors so you can have a view of the surrounding area and vineyards. My favorite wine is their Cabernet Sauvignon, followed by Pinot Noir, Rose and Chardonnay. Depending on what food is being served, they have a wine for you. No matter which you choose, the wine is smooth, with no bitter after taste. Besides traveling to winery in Paso Robles, you can purchase a bottle at local markets or restaurants. Recently, I attended two wine tasting events in the Los Angeles area and was happy that a representative from the company was present to offer their wines for tasting and purchase. Note: During my last visit, the noticeable difference is that reservations are required. I understand the business need for this policy. You will be disappointed if there isn't availability as a walk-in customer. They are very popular, make sure you plan your visit and confirm your date and time. Despite being on a waiting list for several weeks and unable to secure a required reservation at Daou, our small group of five showed up first thing on a recent Saturday morning and incredibly, were able to be seated outside for a tasting! I've since read that you even need a reservation just to pick up some wine, so we were very grateful that it worked out for us. We were greeted at the entrance with a sparkling rosé and ushered to outdoor sofa seating amid their stunning gardens and vineyard views. Elika was an outstanding and extremely personable server, providing lots of history and stories behind the wines. We enjoyed a delicious mezze platter and even got to chat with executive chef Spencer Johnston as he came out for some herb cuttings. We tasted a range of Bordeaux-style wines, as well as a few of their Patrimony single varietal wines. My favorites were the 2023 Estate Sauv Blanc and their flagship 2021 Estate Soul of a Lion.
