DAOU is easily home to one of the most beautiful winery views I've experienced anywhere. Perched high above Paso Robles, the scenery alone makes the visit worthwhile, with sweeping vineyard views that feel almost endless. It's the kind of place where you could easily sit for hours enjoying the landscape and a glass of wine. The wines are consistently excellent. The tasting lineup always showcases the quality DAOU is known for, and one of the great perks is that they often have several library wines available that can be requested and served by the glass. Being able to enjoy some of their older vintages this way makes the experience even more special for wine enthusiasts. What I appreciate most about DAOU is how they've managed to maintain a small, family-style atmosphere despite being acquired by a larger company a few years ago. The hospitality still feels personal and genuine. The staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, not only about the wines themselves but also about the history of the vineyard and the vision behind it. I'm a big fan of this winery and how it has evolved over the years. One of the most gorgeous vineyards on top of the hill! I've always loved DAOU wines so was excited to check out this winery. The views were spectacular and the setting is just unreal! My party got lucky with a very nice day so I could have truly spent hours drinking wine here. Our server was super nice as well and it was overall a wonderful experience. I came here for a tasting with 5 other girls on a Saturday afternoon. It was the perfect experience. No notes. We got to try a variety of wine. The sommelier was knowledgeable and explained each wine very well. I've tried other wineries in the area but thought the wines here were more complex and palatable. What a new years it was! We visited Daou with 8 adults and 5 babies under 1. Not sure if people appreciated that but the babies were all so good. With baby brain I can't remember our servers name, it was close to Oregon? Oregano? I promise to not sound rude, I really wish I could remember her name because she was honestly absolutely amazing. She made us feel so welcome, she was so chatty, she was so knowledgeable with our tasting. We have been to Daou several times and this was our favorite experience because of her. It was raining but still so cozy for the holiday! We sat out on the back patio and had the best time. My husband and I actually got engaged there in 2020 so this was extra special because we brought our baby for NYE. We purchased the Rose which was the first on the tastings menu. Soul of the Lion and The Pessimist is one of our favorites. Might be a little pricey but I can assure you it is worth it. Soul of the Lion was actually on this last tasting menu so we appreciated that. We also tried a new port that we had not had before which was awesome! Daou might be one of the prettiest wineries in Paso, so we highly recommend checking it out! I've been to Daou a couple of times now, and it's quickly becoming one of my favorite spots in Paso. My mom loves wine, especially Daou bottles from Costco, so I decided to bring her here for the full experience. Definitely make reservations because it can get busy. The first time I came, we had to park in their lot and take a shuttle up to the winery, but this time we were able to drive straight to the vineyard with no shuttle needed. The tasting flight is $50 per person, and if you buy three bottles they'll waive one tasting fee, which is nice. Their wines are really good--super smooth--but the bottles are definitely on the pricier side. We also ordered food and it wasn't bad at all. I really enjoyed the margherita pizza, and the cheese and charcuterie board was pretty good too. The vineyard itself is beautiful with amazing views, and they're both dog friendly and baby friendly, which I really appreciate. Overall, it's always a great experience here and I'll for sure be back again. read more

Quality/Quantity - What a BEAUTIFUL space, place! So "Napa" like! This was the only "busy" winery we went to on this 6 winery tour trip. And in my humble opinion, it was not that busy?!?! Or maybe they were going to have a special event later and needed the team to set up? Or wanted us regular guests to leave...? This was also the only winery to have a guard at the lower gate... We did not have reservations, as our experience so far was that we were the only guests/only customers at the previous 3 wineries. But security said they were booked?!?! He then called a few people and was able to get us bottle service, to which I said no problem. When we got to the top, there was another employee directing parking traffic and the main lot was full. A door greeter offered us a glass of Rose as we walked in. Just like my favorite Livermore winery, Murrieta's Well. So we were offered to taste some wines at the wine bar to make sure we liked the bottle we planned to drink. Amazing service. So sorry I can't find his name. Anyways, he asked a few questions of my wine preferences and brought out two bottles for me to taste. I gave feedback and he then brought out two more bottles. So we tasted and tasted and tasted... Then in the conversation, he learned that my daughter prefers Cabs (which I have cut back on significantly since I've stopped collecting), so two more bottles came out. Amazing service! I even tried a splash of their Sauvignon Blanc. Interesting, I guess we are still Napa loyal because the conclusion was that our $100 bottle we purchased was grown in Petaluma... This location is picturesque beautiful, the staff give you the VIP treatment the moment you arrive. There is indoor and outdoor seating. I recommend outdoors so you can have a view of the surrounding area and vineyards. My favorite wine is their Cabernet Sauvignon, followed by Pinot Noir, Rose and Chardonnay. Depending on what food is being served, they have a wine for you. No matter which you choose, the wine is smooth, with no bitter after taste. Besides traveling to winery in Paso Robles, you can purchase a bottle at local markets or restaurants. Recently, I attended two wine tasting events in the Los Angeles area and was happy that a representative from the company was present to offer their wines for tasting and purchase. Note: During my last visit, the noticeable difference is that reservations are required. I understand the business need for this policy. Despite being on a waiting list for several weeks and unable to secure a required reservation at Daou, our small group of five showed up first thing on a recent Saturday morning and incredibly, were able to be seated outside for a tasting! I've since read that you even need a reservation just to pick up some wine, so we were very grateful that it worked out for us. We were greeted at the entrance with a sparkling rosé and ushered to outdoor sofa seating amid their stunning gardens and vineyard views. Elika was an outstanding and extremely personable server, providing lots of history and stories behind the wines. We enjoyed a delicious mezze platter and even got to chat with executive chef Spencer Johnston as he came out for some herb cuttings. We tasted a range of Bordeaux-style wines, as well as a few of their Patrimony single varietal wines. My favorites were the 2023 Estate Sauv Blanc and their flagship 2021 Estate Soul of a Lion. We only had time to visit two wineries during our trip, and this one was absolutely unforgettable. The location is stunning -- set high up with breathtaking 360-degree views. The scenery alone makes it worth visiting. One thing that truly surprised us was seeing beautiful lavender already blooming on January 11, which made the whole experience feel even more magical. The ambiance and the views are amazing. So that I would give it 5 stars. But the reason for the visit should have been primarily for wine and secondarily for the view. The wine was a huge flop. I enjoy their mass market wine sold at major retailers but they didn't serve any of those. Instead the items on the menu were all very expensive for no good reason. I will never be back. I can't say it was a bucket list item, but I always told myself that if I ever made it up to Paso Robles that DAOU would be on the list of places to visit as it's one of my favorite wines to drink. So when my wife and I found ourselves celebrating our honeymoon in Paso, I knew we had to go! The experience we had at the venue was everything I'd imagined it would be. The drive to DAOU is a very scenic as you drive through the green hills of Paso and up the long driveway leading up to DAOU. Once at the top, visitors are created with some breathtaking scenery as well as the beautiful establishment. We had originally only planned on coming up for some wine tasting, but it was recommended that we also eat at DAOU because their food was apparently pretty good. We were seated at a table and given a couple menus as well as a couple glasses of Rose wine while we looked through the menu. Since it was our honeymoon we decided to treat ourselves and started lunch off with the sturgeon caviar. I've had caviar a few times now and DAOU definitely served it up perfectly but the touch I really liked was the crumbled egg that they also gave us for it. We ate every last little piece. I opted to get the steak while my wife got the sea bass. Both meals were prepared and served perfectly and were complimented nicely by our tastings that were brought to our table. Daou is definitely one of the most popular and must-see wineries and for good reason! The scenery is absolutely breathtaking, and the wine was amazing. You do need reservations, so plan ahead! That said, our first interaction with Bethany, the host, was disappointing. She was dismissive and unfriendly, which really put a damper on our excitement when we first arrived. Thankfully, our server, Oriona, completely turned things around she was so kind and welcoming and truly made up for that initial experience. While on a trip to central California we made a trip to the most beautiful vineyard, DAOU, in Paso Robles. The ambience of everything was inviting from the moment you arrive and walk through the magnificent wooden doors into the restaurant/ tasting area. Then when you walk toward the patio to take in the views of the property, you are left breathless. Gorgeous is an understatement. I highly recommend doing a tasting while on the property. This will provide you the opportunity to sample numerous different wines made on site and you will have a personal wine expert who educates you through each variety and also gives you a bit of history of the vineyard. With the great tasting wines, you'll want to pair some snacks. I recommend the meat and cheese board. It has everything you want to snack on, and pairs perfectly with the wines. The only downside of visiting here is that you will end up wishing you lived closer so you can visit more often! read more

For my 1,000 review I'm choosing Daou vineyards. It's the Disneyland of Paso wineries in my opinion. Visiting with family friends of over 20 years we splurged on the special occasion. The welcome and service throughout the day was top notch. Tasting included 2022 Reserve Rosé, 2023 Edna Valley Old Vine Reserve Chardonnay, 2020 Estate Soul of a Lion a classic favorite. 2021 Patrimony Merlot the rare gem and must try. Luckily this was in the tasting menu during our visit. Wood fire pizza had a perfect crust and fresh toppings. Charcuterie board with various textures & flavor profiles, house made jams and sauces, perfect pairing combinations for each wine selection. Oysters were one of the freshest I've tasted. Plump chilled with slight sweet succulent meat. The steak was tender and juicy with flavorful sear atop fluffy potatoes. The sea bass was glistening perfectly cooked with flavorful beurre blanc sauce. Daou air did a few fly overs throughout the day. Custom fleet of prop planes, Mercedes shuttles immaculate landscaping and establishment to take you to a whole other world of wine tasting. I was lucky enough to experience all that is Daou. I love their red cab for many years, and I finally made an apt to visit. The panoramic view of rolling hills was breathtaking. Their wine selection is impressive. I was surprised they have a full kitchen of restaurant quality entrees. A bit pricy but their flavors will knock your socks off! We sampled both white and red wine. I believe central California warm climate creates fruity white wine and sweeter red wine. I love their cab and reserved red blend. Quite an extensive wine collection from this vineyard since they have nearly 200 acres of their vineyard plus buying local grapes for mass retail distribution. No wonder they were bought by an Australian winery for $1B earlier this year. Reservation is required, online reservation is probably easier. Cons: - I was originally seated on these comfortable couch like seating and it was sooooo pretty. The view was amazing. But I am very sensitive to direct sunlight, especially on my head. When I asked if the umbrella could be opened to provide shade, the one near me was one of the humungous ones that would cover multiple tables. Server seemed to hesitate and offered to take me to another covered shaded area. The view wasn't as nice, but for the sake of sun protection, I sat there. It was still pretty! - Price. This was by far the most expensive wine tasting I had. Which meant the wines bottles were also on the pricier side. Again, I'm a girl with champagne taste on a beer budget, so I didn't end up buying any bottles of wine. The menu also veered towards the pricier side. My crazy elaborate cheese plate was $50, but very much worth the price in my opinion. - Parking lot was surprisingly small in comparison to the venue space. There were spaces for overflow parking, but I would hate to have to climb up the hill, but perhaps they provide valet parking on super busy days. - Also, maybe I was spoiled by all the free charging ports offered at various wine tasting locations, I was surprised they didn't have charging ports here. But a very minor inconvenience. - Patio tasting means I had to guard my cheese board and defend it from the various flies that were attracted to the charcuterie. These flies were bit and sneaky. I wished they had one of those fly fans Would I come again? If I was feeling very rich and indulgent, yes. read more
