I love their red cab for many years, and I finally made an apt to visit. The panoramic view of rolling hills was breathtaking. Their wine selection is impressive. I was surprised they have a full kitchen of restaurant quality entrees. A bit pricy but their flavors will knock your socks off! We sampled both white and red wine. I believe central California warm climate creates fruity white wine and sweeter red wine. I love their cab and reserved red blend. Quite an extensive wine collection from this vineyard since they have nearly 200 acres of their vineyard plus buying local grapes for mass retail distribution. No wonder they were bought by an Australian winery for $1B earlier this year. Reservation is required, online reservation is probably easier. It is a wonderful weekend get-away to drive 3 hours to Paso Robles for relaxation and enjoy gourmet food and wine! read more

Originally I was a bit intimidated by the prices I saw online, but I thought it was worth it and enjoyed my tasting experience. Definitely make an online reservation! I went during the week and it was pretty crowded, I can only imagine how crowded it will be on the weekends. Tasting price was $50, waived with a 3 bottle purchace. What I ate: - Cheese and charcuterie board: This thing was $50 and was one of the most glorious boards I've seen. It 5 different cheeses and 4 meat options, with the best assortment of condiments and snacks that paired perfectly with both. Oh and the nice selection of bread and crackers that came with it were so good too. I think this would be great to share, or be a greedy little pig like me and eat most of it for your lunch. This went great with my wine tasting Pros: - The tasting room is located on a hilltop so you get astoundingly beautiful views of the area, and a beatifully curated garden. If the weather is nice, the patio is the place to be. There were a few covered and shaded areas. They had a nice assortment of seating - comfty couch like patio furniture with low tables, as well as seated tables and chairs. - Server was very accommodating, friendly, and knowledgeable about the wines - Bathrooms were clean and nice - Hostess was very friendly - I think this is a great spot to have a small getogether - bridal shower, birthday wine tasting, whatever. I definitely see this spot as a place women would enjoy visiting. - Patio had a garden guests were free to walk around and explore. I didn't have the time since I had another tasting to get to, but would definitely like walking around enjoying the garden with a glass of wine. Cons: - I was originally seated on these comfortable couch like seating and it was sooooo pretty. The view was amazing. But I am very sensitive to direct sunlight, especially on my head. When I asked if the umbrella could be opened to provide shade, the one near me was one of the humungous ones that would cover multiple tables. Server seemed to hesitate and offered to take me to another covered shaded area. The view wasn't as nice, but for the sake of sun protection, I sat there. It was still pretty! - Price. This was by far the most expensive wine tasting I had. Which meant the wines bottles were also on the pricier side. Again, I'm a girl with champagne taste on a beer budget, so I didn't end up buying any bottles of wine. The menu also veered towards the pricier side. My crazy elaborate cheese plate was $50, but very much worth the price in my opinion. - Parking lot was surprisingly small in comparison to the venue space. There were spaces for overflow parking, but I would hate to have to climb up the hill, but perhaps they provide valet parking on super busy days. - Also, maybe I was spoiled by all the free charging ports offered at various wine tasting locations, I was surprised they didn't have charging ports here. But a very minor inconvenience. - Patio tasting means I had to guard my cheese board and defend it from the various flies that were attracted to the charcuterie. These flies were bit and sneaky. I wished they had one of those fly fans Would I come again? If I was feeling very rich and indulgent, yes. read more

Long Review: Daou was stop 1 of 3 for the day, so it was an early morning (10:15) appointment for wine tasting. The pizza oven and heat lamps were already going - which was great because it was a very rainy and windy day. The "educators" were bright and smiley, and willing to have fun with us. We had two whites (rose and a Chardonnay) and three reds (all blends). My high recommends are the Estate Chardonnay, the Estate Mayote and the Estate Soul of a Lion. Tastings are waived if you join. Always a great time at DAOU. The grounds are so beautiful and breathtaking from all around. The customer service is amazing. The food is super delicious and the wine is spectacular. I really love their reserve Cabarnet Sauvignon. I had made reservations for 13 of us and the whole process went smoothly with checking in to doing our tasting and devouring the food we ordered. The mezze board was delicious as always. They were also serving pizza made right outside in their brick oven. Overall we had an amazing time here and can't wait to come back. Stopped her my friend on our way down to Hearst Castle. Always wanted to visit Daou. The views are as spectacular as expected! Be aware that it is incredibly crowded. It takes a while to park and then get shuttled up to the winery. We were told that we could just drop in to do a tasting at the bar area. We waited for ten minutes without anyone acknowledging us so we left and went for a wander around the grounds. They have sweet tables that are laddered up some terraces. If I go back I'll def reserve an experience there. I give them 4 stars because of potential and bc of how enjoyable it could be. Not five stars bc I didn't actually get any service! I'm in the wine industry so I don't want to ding them for being too busy to manage a walk-in! (Although the tastings were pretty expensive for past standards.) read more

It's unfortunate to hear other tables ask for a specific wine and get it served.. and then ask for the same one myself and be told it's unavailable. Not sure if it's a company flaw or wine advisor flaw. Either way, not the way i would have liked my, 10th or so, experience to go. Maybe the next server will be of better customer service and fairness. Daou cabernet is one of my favorite so of course I had to take the five hour drive to Paso Robles from Napa to visit the winery. It is as beautiful as the photos. We had a bit of a hiccup when we arrived because they had some construction going on. We had scheduled two tastings. Soul of the Lion vertical and their normal tasting. It was amazing. I love that you can order food so we took full advantage of that, everything was delicious. We had the most amazing morning trying dome of their best wines, including Patrimony. In the end we were only charged for the Soul of the Lion tasting which was $110 per person I believe, plus the food and wine we bought to bring home. It was an amazing experience. Well, I've been to wineries everywhere and this one is truly stunning. The ambiance, the architecture, the views, the grounds... all stunning. You just don't want to leave. I only drank reds, but they are delicious. Very Bordeaux-like. My favorite was the Micho wine. The wines are in general over-priced. It's got to be because you are not just buying wine; embedded in that prices is all their overhead from the building and the property. Daniel Daou is the winemaker and he is gifted however. I did end up joining the wine club, mostly just to visit occasionally and wine taste at no extra fee. Wine tasting is $50/person and that's a bit much otherwise. They gave us a very nice wood wine box and some Daou shirts for signing up. It was a very nice touch. We visited twice and the service was hit and miss. Will, a friendly French gentleman who was a level 2 Sommelier (and studying to be level 3), was extremely knowledgeable, attentive, friendly, engaging, and generous all the way around (pours, complimentary chocolate at the end with a dessert wine, etc). He made the visit wonderful. The next time we went, Lisa was our server, and she was doing anything but being attentive. She was friendly enough when she showed up, but she left us on an island forever in between pours. Her pours were very small and in general, it was just not a very good experience. She would just disappear for seemingly forever and then later remember we existed again. She made the visit regrettable. Overall a great winery and I can't wait to go back. read more

Stunning views and fantastic wines! Daou vineyard sits on top of a hill which provides incredible 360 views of the valley which acts as a perfect background while enjoying a flight of wine. I tend to gravitate towards reds, but their Chardonnay was the highlight of the flight to me. It was crisp, refreshing, and not overly buttery. My partner loved the Cabernet sauvignon! If we come back to Paso Robles we'd definitely try to make it back to Daou. read more

This is a must visit in Paso! Elika absolutely made it the best first visit for us. Recommend making the 11 am reservation to have lunch here. We came and had plenty of parking and seating options. Otherwise you would park in the lower lot and use the shuttle to come up (by 12:30 pm it was packed and cars were turned at the roundabout to park lower). We were seated inside. They had heated options outside with coverings and space heaters, but we chose a spot by the fireplace and windows. Elika provided us details and stories behind each tasting (~$50 pp). Lunch was perfection with beef tartare, pork, and scallops (~$110). We had an extra pour to walk around the property and talk about the 360 view! There were various wooden chairs to enjoy. Don't miss going down the amphitheater with additional seating. Luckily we had a blanket but it was windy and chilly and patio seatings were still damp with recent rain. Still beautiful view of Paso that we'd come back to this spot! read more

Beautiful, just to start off. The whole experience from start to finish was great. We were able to get a last minute reservation for a tasting which was amazing as it was our last day in wine country. The drive to all the wineries was quite beautiful. Upon arrival, we checked in before heading up to the tasting room. Parking is limited at the top but they do have other lots and shuttle service available. The whole property is amazing and spectacular. The view alone is priceless. We arrived early so we could check out the property. We started off with the rose while waiting for our table. From there once seated which was also in a nice covered patio. Still beautiful view. The selection of wine for the tasting was all amazing. Each one better than the other. And the gentleman that took care of us was very knowledgeable with the wines and stories behind them. Also the food menu was quite impressive. We did already just had lunch so wasn't able to try anything. But ordered the charcuterie board to go with our tasting. The while experience was excellent. This is a 5+ star location with some of the most amazing views in the region. Wine: For whites check out the 2022 Estate Sauv Blanc. Great grapefruit, lemongrass and basil nose with passionfruit, lemon zest and key lime pie flavors. You can't go wrong with any of their reds but the standout for us was the 2021 Estate Cab Sauv with raspberry, cranberry, blackberry and tobacco aromas and touch of mineral. Flavors of blueberry, cherry, strawberry plus toasted nuttiness and mocha. Superior food options. We recommend their over the top cheese and charcuterie offering. Service was excellent. Let's start with the drive there. We drove from Morro Bay to Paso Robles and lemme tell you, it was a very windy and horrid drive- to the point where I thought there could be nothing to make this drive worth it. We arrived around 2pm and were greeted with a tasting of their rosé. Beautiful facility and beautiful views forsure and I thought the rose was a delightful welcome. After being greeted by our server Yosh, my mood flipped from being grumpy to being intrigued and happy. He really took care of us and made us feel warm and welcome! He was very knowledgeable and made our long and dreadful drive worth it. I've been wanting to visit Daou for a long time and it truly exceeded my expectation. DAOU winery is a must stop for us and has the most beautiful views in Paso Robles. The winery is a lovely building high in the mountains. There are plenty of tables and seating on multiple levels outside overlooking the rolling hills, vineyards and scenery. Tasting is $50 a person and includes 5 wines. The Chardonnay and rose were my favorites. They also have a pretty extensive lunch menu. We ordered the lamb with hummus and sea bass. Both dishes were excellent with the lamb being the standout. I think this is a must visit winery when you are in the Paso Robles area because they are located on the top of the mountain with a beautiful view of the area and vineyards. I also visited Austin Hope and Justin (separate reviews), but this is the must go. Make sure you make a reservation for the visit and they have some nice snack/lunch items that will go really well with their wine or their wine flights. Other than staying at the winery, we also tried out the Patrimony Immersion. While it is expensive (~$275/person), it is well worth it. The have a sommelier walk you through the whole area and also drive you down to the vineyards and cellar to try some of their top wines. The whole experience ends with a 3-course lunch including caviar and their most current Patrimony releases, which retail at about $300 to 400 a bottle. The whole experience was very personal and only up to 6 people at a given time. There's a total of about 8 different wines tried, Daou Rose to start. Then from the barrel, Soul of the Lion, Patrimony Cab Franc, and Patrimony. On the table during lunch, we tried Patrimony Blanc, Patrimony Cabernet Sauvignon, Patrimony Cabinet Franc, and Patrimony Merlot. read more

Gorgeous winery that I have never been able to get into! A friend who is a member was able to get us a tasting in Saturday afternoon and Cooper was our waiter. He was very knowledgeable and answered a lot of questions! Winery is beautiful and I already knew I liked the wines! Along with wine tasting...please order the food...it is a perfect compliment to the wines they offer and they have an amazing variety of food to eat and enjoy with your wine. The views up here are amazing, so couple it with some badass wine, and food and you just want to be here for hours! Rubin was our server and he was so helpful and so informative in giving us the full lay out of the wines and took very good care of us. As members we got the complimentary tasting and some food. If you can do it, get the scallops. They are to die for -- esp with the early white wine tastings and then we finished with a pizza (they offer on the weekends) with the reds. After spending a week in Napa Valley in June, we took our trip south to Paso Robles, one of my wife's favorite regions. While there, we had the pleasure of visiting DAOU Vineyards. Finding the Vineyard, perched a top a hill, was a bit tricky because they were remodeling the entrance. I imagine they are building something grand to go along with the rest of the facilities. They were very organized and had sent us a email with good instructions. Once we arrived they had us park in a nearby area with a tent and wait for one of their vehicles to take us up to the facility. They facilities are very accommodating and the views are fantastic. It was morning and the sky were clear and the temperatures were still cool. I had reserved two different tastings. They took us to a nice table outside with a great view. The service was friendly and efficient. Our wine host was very friendly and knowledgeable of the DAOU wines and the industry as a whole. I mentioned to him that we had another tasting schedule for later, and we agree that he will host both. He was a great host and took care of us for the several hours we stayed. We were able to taste a few wine that were off the menu options as well, which we appreciated greatly. We order some food to go along with the tastings, and everything was delicious. From the Octopus, the salads to the flatbread, everything was to our liking. We highly recommend you visit DAOU vineyards if you are in Paso Robles. My recent experience at DAOU was deeply disappointing and left me walking away from a long-anticipated visit completely deflated. While the location is undeniably beautiful, the service and handling of our lunch fell far below what one would expect from a place of this caliber. I had a specific dietary concern and asked our server if the beet salad (which included pickled and roasted beets) could be customized or at least sampled beforehand due to a sensitivity to spice. He said he'd check with the chef and took my partner's steak order (medium-rare) in the meantime. He returned with a sample of pickled beets, which were indeed too spicy for me, so I opted for the steak (medium-well) instead. Oddly, despite saying I didn't want the salad, the server brought it anyway and said it was "on the house." The salad included two kinds of beets--only one of which I'd sampled. I considered switching my order back to the salad, but told the server not to cancel my steak because I do not believe in wasting food, especially when it involves an animal's life. Then came the bigger issue: my partner's steak arrived, but mine didn't. The server admitted he'd placed that order first and said mine was "on the way." That didn't make sense for a medium-well steak, and sure enough, mine came out just minutes later--completely undercooked (medium-rare). I flagged the issue immediately and requested it be cooked more, even suggesting it be butterflied to speed it up. Fifteen minutes later, a brand-new steak arrived. My original had clearly been thrown out--despite my clear wishes not to waste food. The server shrugged and gave a flat, generic apology. By that point, my appetite was gone, and so was my mood. We skipped the rest of our wine tasting and asked for the check. And to top it all off--we were still charged full price for everything (minus the salad I originally declined). No offer of compensation or acknowledgment that anything had gone wrong. We came to DAOU excited to enjoy a beautiful, relaxing afternoon. Instead, we left disappointed, upset, and in a sour mood--so much so it even sparked an argument between my partner and me. It's hard to enjoy the view when the hospitality doesn't match it. Daou is picturesque!!! We made reservations a couple weeks before coming and the only time was a 10am reservation, which is early for wine tasting in my opinion but we made it work! Getting there early had the perk of finding parking right by the front entrance and getting to walk around a bit before our tasting. Once inside we were greeted and given our first glass which was a Rosé. Our table area was inside which was cozy and nice especially since it was still a bit chilly outside. Laura our wine expert was very friendly and had great knowledge behind each wine. Each wine flight cost $50 a person. My faves were the Chardonnay and Reserve falcon. That Chardonnay was the best one I've ever had!! Very crisp and fruity . For food we got the bread and sea salt butter which was really delicious. We got to walk around a bit more in between trying our different wines and the scenery is just breathtaking! We want to come back when the weather is a bit warmer and we can sit outside. read more

I've visited a few times and always enjoyed the beautiful views and great atmosphere. However, during my last visit, I had a less-than-ideal experience. I brought a spread of snacks to pair with wine, and while setting it up, the server came by twice--once to bring water--without mentioning that outside food wasn't allowed. Only after everything was set up did we learn it wasn't permitted due to codes and regulations. I understand this isn't the server's fault, and she was just following the rules. However, there were multiple chances to inform us earlier--when we arrived with bags of food or while setting up. I also checked the website and building for signs but didn't see any notice about outside food being prohibited. For those planning a visit, be aware that outside food isn't allowed, even though many people associate wineries with picnicking. Clearer communication about this policy would be helpful.
