I've been to many wineries across Napa/Paso and this was the first one I've ever become a "member" at! We flew in (!!!) to the airstrip on the property, where we were then given a short ride to the main winery. Landing here requires advanced notice and some paperwork, but wasn't too much of a hassle. We started off with the wine tasting - I enjoyed every wine I tried, especially the rose and CDP. The pours were pretty generous and they let us re-visit our favorite, which was nice. We also split the charcuterie board and chicken sandwich. The charcuterie was alright, but nothing amazing. Same for the chicken sandwich, overall pretty good but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat it here. The service was really great, and we enjoyed walking around the property after lunch. I'm definitely excited to come back on one of the days the mini train is running! read more

Just the drive up to HR was wonderful, rising higher and higher up the mountain to reach the place. I was jokingly telling my wife trying to be snooty, I don't drink wine from the lower elevation Paso, lol! Super large estate with such a beautiful building for indoor and outdoor seatings. Was amazing just driving up the property to the tasting room. Had made reservation online ahead of time, since was in Paso to check out the sensorio thing on a Saturday in mid March. Don't think I've really been to winery to do tasting, but this was one place I wanted to come to after tasting their "Ancestor" at inlaw's house over a year ago. They had gotten the bottle from their neighbors who must be club members. All I remember was it was one of the best wines I've had. I'm a cheap wine drinker, but things like the stag's Artemis and halter ranch Ancestor just leave lasting impressions in my mind. Checked in with the gentleman at the host stand in the beautiful building. Everything so clean and nice here. Chose to be seated outdoors on the beautiful day. It was quite crowded and busy with folks enjoying food and wines. Ms. Kristie was our server and she was fantastic! Working multiple tables with bottles in hands for all the tastings happening. She was super friendly and accommodating and helpful with explanations of each wine and so energetic to manage every table! Her energy helped stave off the fatigue from driving 4 hours since morning and the food coma from lunch before arriving. We already had lunch so opted for just the olives with the tastings of Ranch and Silver to maximize tasting all the different wines. Initially requested Ranch for both of us, since I expected to get 2 bottles of the wonderful ancestor to get one tasting waived. Shortly after, I noticed ancestor was also considered part of the silver label wines, so switched one to Silver flight (thought maybe ancestor was not silver, since it was part of the ranch flight, but Ms. Kristie said it's just on both flights since it's their signature wine). The olives were very salty, maybe should be rinsed out of it's brine before to reduce the salt. I expected olives to be from HR, but olives are not, and I guess just the olive oil in is is (on the olive oil later). Maybe the sourdough would have been better since it's served with the olive oil, but was just too full from lunch. After tasting all the wines from both flights, for my novice taste buds, I think Halter Ranch is just a master of blends! I actually preferred the blends over the single grape variety wines. Suspected as such after tasting the ancestor before, but my plans to get 2 bottles of ancestor went out the door once I tasted the Cuvee Alice! Wow, so smooth and complexity in depth, instantly scrambled my brain of thinking I came solely for the Ancestor. Ms. Kritie explained the Cuvee Alice was named after the owner's mom. That made perfect sense! It was a wine deserving of owner's pride, what a wonderful wine! Doubt came over me, now maybe I have to step up to buying the Cuvee Alice instead of Ancestor? Can't get better than the Cuvee. But the final round of Ancestor showed off why it's their signature wine, still was so wonderful, and couldn't make up my mind since I love the Ancestor, but I could not imagine not enjoying Cuvee again. Ended up splitting my decision and got a bottle of each to make sure I can have both again! Will introduce inlaws to the Cuvee since we all had Ancestor before. And will have Ancestor for my dad on Father's day then so I can have it then to see if I can decide then which is my fav, or just both :) On the way out, saw the bottles of olive oil by the entrance. Got tastings and loved it, wow! Some "real" olive oil! I preferred the ancestor over the tuscan. Wife got a bottle the Picual olive oil. It is so smooth with delightful flavors and a wonderful bitter bite to it. It's too good and pricey to use for food, so we just take a spoonful daily like a super antioxidant supplement! Already getting low on the bottle... These wines and olive oils are way above my pay grade, but why gotta be so good. My girlfriend and I visited Halter Ranch for a wine tasting and had a solid overall experience. She did the Ranch Flight, and I went with the Silver Flight. Both were good, but I felt the Silver Flight had the stronger overall lineup. I ended up buying two bottles of their Malbec before leaving, which says a lot about the quality. We had a 2 PM reservation and arrived about 10 minutes late due to a detour through the hills getting to the winery. Even so, they were very accommodating and seated us right away at an open table. There were quite a few open tables when we arrived, so on this particular Saturday in April, a reservation may not have been necessary, but it's still a good idea to have one just in case. Service was a bit inconsistent but still positive overall. We were initially greeted by another team member who brought water and got us started with our first pours while our assigned server, Janise, was tied up. She later served a couple of the middle pours, and another team member stepped in again for one of the later wines. It seemed like she was balancing multiple responsibilities, and while the handoff between staff kept things moving, it did feel a bit disjointed at times. That said, the overall tone was more casual and friendly rather than overly formal, which some people may prefer. One thing I did appreciate was that there was no hard push to join their wine club. At other wineries in Paso Robles, I've experienced a much stronger sales push, so it was nice to be able to enjoy the tasting without that pressure. The wines themselves were consistently good. We didn't have anything we disliked, and most of what we tried ranged from solid to very enjoyable. They also offer food, though we had already eaten beforehand and didn't try it. The property also has a small retail area near the front with apparel and other merchandise. There are EV chargers available at the far end of the parking lot, which is a nice feature, but accessing them can be a bit tricky. Larger vehicles like sprinter vans and limos tend to park in that same area, which can make maneuvering into the charging spots more difficult than it should be. Overall, I would come back. Good wine, a relaxed atmosphere, and a nice setting. If you're in Paso Robles and looking for a laid-back tasting experience with solid wines, Halter Ranch is worth a visit. read more

The service was great! They were pretty busy but Jasmine took care of us and was super friendly and had great recommendations. In the Adelaida region of Paso, well, this gets a wow. A little house on the road, go inside the property, and it has a bridge, vineyard, and one of the loveliest tasting rooms and properties you're gonna find. What an incredible vineyard! The property is truly breathtaking. We arrived right as their tasting room opened and despite being full with upcoming reservations, they accommodated our party and even gave us a guided tasting of their Ranch Flight. If you have the time and are willing to spend the money, sign up for the cave tour. Our host rebecca was very knowledgeable and very enthusiastic. This is a great tour for somebody who is just being introduced to wine and winemaking. She talked a lot about their organic farming practices, winemaking procedures, and the history of the winery, and the surrounding area. We watched as the other tables that were sat 10min after us were being served while we just sat there thinking where's our server? Not acknowledged or helped for 25min. After feeling invisible I GOT UP & asked if we had a server? Our waitress finally appeared & gave us no apology, thx for your patience or reason why we were not helped? She laughed it off & said"Here I am" Waitress did not seem that busy (no other tables)& we sat there waiting for our next tasting while she was talking to other staff members. I've been to several wine tastings- this was by far the worst experience. We called a week ahead to book and stated we had 3 dogs and a baby and would like shade. When we came we were seated at the ONLY table that had no shade. All the umbrellas were used on other tables. Most tables had multiple umbrellas. We had to ask several times for an umbrella. Finally we got one but half our party was still in the sun. Asked for another one and they stated they couldn't remove them from other tables because other people would be in the sun. Mind you one table had four umbrellas. It took our server 30 minutes to bring us our first wine for the tasting. It was not the best experience and I won't be coming back. We were at Paso for only 2 days and wish we could of tried another place instead. Wines were okay nothing special. read more

Our tour guide Timothy was phenomenal; he gave a capturing explanation of the vineyard, how the wine is made, and the history of the vineyard and its owner. The ONLY PRIVATE RUNWAY winery in the WORLD?? PILOT CABINS! An amazing overnight in the vineyard! Prior permission is required to land. The landing fee is generally the basic wine club membership or purchasing 6 bottles of wine. Our first adventure FLYING into the winery and staying overnight in the Pilot Cabin. MARGARET was a wonderful host. She communicated with us on CTAF, made sure the runway was clear and estimated the winds. Keep an eye on the windsock at midfield west. Typically, LAND 4 and depart 22. It's a tight runway with little lateral wiggle room, so I would practice first at AVX or SZP or a similar airport with a narrow runway. Consider the effects of density altitude! Margaret picked us up in a nicely air conditioned SUV at the parking area at the apch end of 22 and took us to one of the 2 PILOT CABINS. The cabins were nice and cozy with a great shower and very, very SOFT bed. There's a large fridge with ice tray, coffee maker and complimentary locally produced coffee. There's a full KITCHEN with range/oven/micro if you wish to bring in your own food. Keep the door closed to keep out the flies. The AIR CONDITIONING worked well and we're big fans of ceiling fans. They also provided a really nice BOSE BT min speaker, essential oil BUG SPRAY and a small fly zapper. Note! The WATER on the entire property is reverse osmosis filtered, so there's no need to purchase water bottles. We really enjoyed the nearby AMENITIES, pool, hot tub, firepit, tree swing, horseshoes, train ride, tasing/lunch. We also enjoyed a really good lunch and tasting in the dining room. Calamari, Kale salad, Halibut and steak. The VINEYARD TRAIN TOUR started off with a good pour of the Rose (great on a 100 degree day!) The train chugged around the entire property for about 45 min. They also offer a WINE CAVE TOUR which we are planning on experiencing next time. At the end of our stay, Margaret picked us up in the chilled SUV and took us back to the plane! read more

My friend and I visited Halter Ranch for a wine tasting, and it did not disappoint. Kaitlyn was knowledgeable and friendly, as was the rest of the staff. The decor inside was only second to the breathtaking views of the vineyard, elegant and refined indoors to complement the beauty of nature. I will say that Halter Ranch exemplifies who I want to be as a wine connoisseur, so I don't think it would be the best spot for your first wine tasting (it was my second). While it wasn't pretentious, and Kaitlyn gave us an excellent intro to the wines and answered every single one of our questions, I was thankful for the intro I had to wines previously because that baseline allowed me to experience the Halter Ranch tasting fully. My first visit to Halter Ranch with the Wine BFFs was a blast. If in the adelaida area and are looking for a great winery tour, Halter Ranch will take care of that. Immediately upon entry, we were greeted by the super friendly host who checked us in. We were a little early, so grabbed one of their Embroidered Vests in their merch section. All the clothing was high quality materials and stitching. Good stuff. Scott was our tour guide and educator and he was fantastic. He had his presentation down and was extremely knowledgeable on all aspects of production and history of Halter Ranch. He was very friendly and a top notch guide. Tour Stops Vineyards - Learned the unique elevate grape growing process at Halter Ranch Machinery - Saw the machines that process the grapes and the massive storage units Lounge - Grabbed a seat in the classy lounge to sample more wines and hang out with the feral friendly cats around. We also learned about the art pieces throughout the Ranch Cave - We sampled some wine straight from the barrel. My favorite part of course. Took a seat at a designated tasting area in the caves and here is where I discovered my favorite Halter Ranch Wine: the 2019 Ancestor. I also purchased a 2020 CDP as well. This was a great tour and the facilities were great. Next time we're planning to check out the Land Rover tour and sample more pesticide free vino. Cheers! read more

I visited Halter Ranch for the first time right before new years on a rainy day. I mean what better thing to do on a rainy day than to go wine tasting?! Yes the weather was crummy but the estate was still gorgeous! It was truly breath taking and I only really saw the train main building and train tunnel. So cute! An added bonus, they offer free Tesla charging. One thing that sort of annoyed me is that if it's raining and you have a reservation, you may have to wait at the bar for a table to open up because they count the patio tables (which were soaking wet) in their reservation count. The staff did their best to get us to a table as quickly as possible but we purposely booked reservations during their lunch time to eat lunch so it was a full house. Anyway, we were seated in about 15 minutes but I saw this happen to many guests so just a heads up if you're visiting on a rainy day! My friend and I both ordered the $35 ranch flight. Pours were generous. Our favorites were the effervescent rose and their viognier. They do waive a tasting if you purchase 2 bottles. For lunch (served between 11:00 am-3:00 pm) I ordered the halter ranch burger with a beyond patty and a side of truffle fries. Both were DELICIOUS! I will be back for those fries!!
