This place was super cute. We found it on Yelp and decided to stop by as our last visit of the day. We enjoyed the wines and the atmosphere. There are small picnic style areas with umbrellas or bench style seating, which made it feel relaxed and inviting. The experience is pretty self guided. They pour your wine and then let you enjoy it on your own. Whether that is a good or bad thing depends on what kind of wine tasting experience you are looking for. For us, it was perfect for our last stop we got to enjoy a little snack we packed and unwind. There is a charming old barn on the property. I took a short walk over and spotted some birds inside. The inside of the barn looked really cool and added to the charm of the entire place. We ended up purchasing two bottles, but we were still charged for two tasting fees. We called afterward and were reimbursed for one, so just make sure to double check your receipt if you buy wine. read more

Wine is okay, used to be better than okay. I used to really enjoy the pet nat and the counoise. More recent releases have taken a boring turn on my tongue. Not a whole not of character or unique nuances in the wine lately. Also, not dog friendly, and hosts were not friendly when confronting me and my dog, who have tasted and relaxed there peacefully in the past--but I guess we won't be doing that anymore. I was really excited to revisit and show my friends their wines, but we were abruptly turned away upon approaching the tasting room. I'm aware the property is on working farm land. Not only is my dog highly trained, he's a service animal who also lives on a farm, no harm would have come from letting us relax there that day. Instead we went to another more welcoming tasting room, and bought several cases for an event I have coming up. read more

Driving into this property is a great introduction to the historic beauty that this winery is. The barn, the horse stalls, the outdoor patio, etc. There was at least one owl in the barn. Kai and Maddie were great hosts. However, Blue and the chickens were the piece de resistance! Yes, the wines were great too! We were here as part of the Grapeline Tour and definitely recommend both the tour and winery! read more

I would give Thatcher all the stars in the sky. I'm in love! Out of my entire trip to Paso, Thatcher was the absolute highlight. Every single wine I tasted was a winner. If you are a fan of reds, you've got to check them out. The rose was also FANTASTIC. Their tasting room is quiet and serene, surrounded by rolling hills and an old barn where they host group wine tastings. The woman who was helping us was so friendly and talked us through the tasting notes as well as the history of the winery. You've got to make a stop to Thatcher if you are in Paso! We also got to walk into another old barn on the property and saw an owl! Just another little detail that made this place all the more magical. I will be back! Not soon enough. read more

Thacher wine is a family owned winery with an authentic farm like atmosphere . It's about 25 min from downtown Paso Robles. It has old stables and barns and chickens and rooster running around which I loved!!! This was a second winery of the day and we were feeling pretty good lol! Our reservation was for 3:30 pm so by the time we got there it wasn't very crowded at all which was nice. We were greeted right away by Beck, who let us sit wherever we'd like and we chose to sit outside next to the heater. He also provided blankets as well which was nice since it was a bit chilly. Becks energy was so contagious and that really enhanced our wine tasting visit, and we really enjoyed his thorough explanations of The Oxymoronic theme with their wine and label- love it! Beck gave us an extra wine rosé for our patience, as he was caring for a couple things as well as serving our tasting. Our fave wines were Triumvirate reserve zinfandel (100% Zinfandel) and Original copy( Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot). Although there was no food served we didn't mind at all and were able to grab a bite later once we got back into downtown Paso Robles. Our tasting cost $20 a person and since we bought a bottle of the Triumvirate and left a tip our overall cost was $114.79. We would definitely come back to Thacher in the spring when it's warmer and sit outside again to enjoy the wine and watch the chickens! read more

Oh how we love this winery!!! What a delicious tasting experience. The venue is absolute breathtaking and you don't want to leave. The customer service was 5 star. We enjoyed the laid back tasting experience with great descriptions shared about each wine poured. We left with a couple of great bottles to take home and enjoy at a later date all with the memories shared at this lovely venue with the ones we love. read more

Very lovely place I will definitely go back. We especially love sitting outside, looking over the beautiful vineyards on the hillside. There are chickens, free ranging running around the property, it truly is a lovely experience one of our highlights of our Paso Robles trip. we met an awesome gentleman that was newer to the area from LA county. He was so kind and helpful and gave us great advice and where to find a delicious port wine. We purchased a ton of wine from this place and a delicious cider that we just enjoyed yesterday after a couple hours of gardening outside. You will not be disappointed go get a flight and enjoy the views read more

My husband and I absolutely enjoyed Thacher Winery and will be returning soon! Our host, Beck, was very welcoming and knowledgeable. He provided so much history of Thacher and how they make their wines. The winery is nestled in a barn setting, which makes for a serene ambiance - just perfect for relaxing. Stopped by for what we thought would be a quick tasting but ended up having the most wonderful afternoon here! We were welcomed by Drew, who ended up guiding us through our tasting. We grabbed a blanket, one of many tables outside next to the barn, and he came over to set up a heater then bring us our wines. He also filled up our water bottles, which we were so thankful for on our drive home! We tasted through the wines at our table and received wonderful education on each one. We lucked out as they had a couple off-menu bottles open during our visit, all of which we were able to taste. We got up to walk around and check out the goats while we tasted - one of the highlights, they were so cute! We probably spent close to two hours here, and honestly could've spent the whole day had we brought snacks and ordered a bottle for there. They had a lot of fun blends that included quite a few unique to the area varietals including cinsault, counoise, and a 100% negrette. It sounded like they also had some great white wines including a sparkling - but all had sold out earlier in the year. There was a variety of seating options including picnic tables, high tops, and Adirondack chairs and benches small tables, a great variety for groups of any size. You could also taste inside the tasting room. We each ended up leaving with two bottles, and we definitely plan to return on a future Paso trip! read more

With 287 wine tasting rooms in the Paso Robles AVA alone, there are plenty from which to choose. This has become an easy favorite for me thanks to their boutique production (nothing mass about it), unique blends, friendly and knowledgeable staff, rural setting and relaxed atmosphere. If you're looking for a party atmosphere, the wines you're used to picking up at your local wine shop or grocery store, the mass producers that taste pretty much the same year after year, this is NOT for you. There is no restaurant here. Thacher specializes in wine. No distractions. If you're looking for a farm setting, outdoor seating, a picnics-welcome-on-the-tree-shaded-picnic-tables-by-the-barn atmosphere with tasty wines that are more Old World than In Your Face Bold, you'll find Thacher a treat. read more

Thatcher has been my favorite winery for years. As someone who works in the industry I have the pleasure of enjoying visiting wineries. This is hands down my favorite. I went this past weekend & met Mike the individual servicing us for the day. He was probably the nicest & most personable person I've ever met for a tasting. The ambiance is a farm side cozy vibe. I enjoy most of their offerings & appreciate them focusing on quality and not quantity. I'll be back like usual. read more

Great winery and amazing vibes. The wines were delish (you have to do a tasting), the staff were super kind and helpful, plus I was a sucker for their merch - because their grasshopper logo is just too cute! We sat outside and did a tasting. It was early enough that we beat the crowds which I was super pleased with because when this spot gets busy it GETS BUSY. It was quiet and we could enjoy the outdoor breeze and pretty landscaping. Staff were super nice. The drinks kept flowing and everything was brought out to us quickly. Then when we went inside to the bar area and little gift shop like area everyone continued to be as friendly as our main server was. Their glassware was super cute with their grasshopper logo that I left with a few goodies and will definitely be back. read more

Chris was amazing! I had their wine at a local restaurant and they served us the next day as walk in's. Unfortunately we were rushed but Chris understood and met us with such patience and good assistance. He quickly ran us through the reds we wanted to try - their Controlled Chaos wine is really great. And they let us park on the property for a quick picnic with a purchased glass of wine. We left with three bottles and he found us at the end of our meal with his checkout tablet to help us make good time. Will be back. read more

Thacher is a boutique winery near a neighborhood and it was one of our favorite stops. You wouldn't typically just come across it but I recommend checking it out as it was the only place that we enjoyed enough to purchase a bottle. It doesn't come cheap, but we really loved the wine. Our hosts informed us that they got married here 18 years ago and stayed on the property, so I'm not sure if that's still an option. We had a lovely time sitting out on the couches in the shade amongst the vines and thought the small fountain only added to the peaceful ambiance. read more

This has to be the most beautiful winery in the Willow Creek AVA...heck maybe in the whole of Paso! The wines we had during our tastings were excellent and our host (Mike) had great knowledge and passion for what he does. I see us joining their wine club down the line and we likely would have if we hadn't already signed up for 2 during our most recent trip. We still left with a couple of bottles. Their Constant Variable is outstanding. read more

Thatcher winery is located on a beautiful picturesque road. While the majority of seating is outdoors, there are several shaded areas. The staff is always friendly and accommodating! We enjoyed their featured wine tastings but especially liked their Noveaux; it's a light red and served slightly chilled (perfect for summer)! read more

Had such a lovely time there! We drove up from Santa Barbara on a Friday and arrived here in the afternoon. Our sommelier was Brice, who was knowledgeable, attentive and very personable. The drive to this winery was beautiful! It's about 10 miles from Paso. The grounds here are beautiful. Some chickens and goats to entertain the kids and very accommodating for big groups 5,6,7, etc. We bought 4 bottles of wine. Lovely time. Would love to come back! read more

Thacher is one of our favorite wineries in Paso Robles / Templeton. We always enjoy our visits there and go often! The wine is AMAZING. The staff is always very welcoming and knowledgeable. They engage their guests in conversation, instead of telling you about the wine and walking away. Last time we were served by Chris. We had a bigger party, and he was wonderful! It's a casual vibe which I love, you can bring food and snacks, and our kids love exploring and visiting the animals. We are excited to go back soon! read more

We visited Thacher for the first time over the weekend. It was a little further out than we anticipated, but worth the little drive! The location is breathtaking - beautiful rolling hills and a peaceful setting. The wines were lovely, and our server was kind and shared lots of knowledge about the wines. Excellent winery! Their wines are quite sophisticated with no harshness but lots of interesting flavors and long flavor curves. Thacher Winery is in a lovely location. The tasting area is quite large, and they also have quite a few tables where their customers may enjoy a picnic. We enjoyed the wines, and our server was quite knowledgeable. Their logo, the grasshopper, is fun. I imagine that this winery throws a good party. They are very down to earth people. read more

Spent a Saturday morning here and absolutely loved it. There's a Gorgeous 25 minute drive from downtown Paso Robles to get there. The setting is beautiful the staff was super nice and knowledgeable. We ended up buying four bottles of their wine. You need reservations due to Covid. read more

Thacher is our happy place. My husband and I became members back in 2010 and immediately fell in love. Sherman and Michelle were so warm and inviting. We've introduced many friends to the winery and it's always a crowd pleaser! One of our best memories is watching the rain come down from the barn during one of our most recent visits. Our current production is approximately 4,000 cases of many red blends including Zinfandels, Phones and more! The winery and tasting room was completed summer of 2008 and sits right next to the The Kentucky Ranch Barn, a well known landmark of old time Paso Robles. When we arrived, I learned that groups of seven or more get charged an extra $10 per person--a $70 fee that essentially wiped out my complimentary member tastings. Six people? No charge. Seven? That'll be $70. What?! For literally ZERO increase in service or experience. They're walking around a table, pouring a thimble of wine in a glass...that one extra person apparently necessitates a $70 fee. Here's the kicker: we were the only people in the tasting room for the entire two hours we were there. No crowd to manage, no strain on resources. And our group bought nine bottles of wine. The "thank you" for bringing in new customers and making purchases was a surprise $70 surcharge. I emailed to cancel my membership, thinking someone might reach out to try to keep a five-year member. Instead, I got a polite apology and a cancellation confirmation--from the GM and Winemaker, no less. No offer to waive the fee, no credit, nothing. They let a long-time member walk over $70. I noticed another Yelp review complaining about this exact same policy. So it's not just me--and apparently that feedback hasn't prompted any change. That says a lot. In a region overflowing with great wineries that actually value their members, I can't recommend this one. Policies like this, combined with zero effort to retain loyal customers, tell you everything you need to know about how they view the people who support them.

The person who served us was solid and attentive and worked to our timing to get next winery. Also had some knowledge of other wineries which was nice to hear. Wines unfortunately didnt live up to my expectations. The roussanne was good a good start but my palate didn't connect with the reds very well. The 2018 Gernache was downright awful. The last two reds were good but nothing worth taking home unfortunately. With all the good reviews I was hoping my palate would experience what other had experienced. As with all wine reviews I do, I will always encourage people to try this winery for themselves as its a small business and we need to do all we can to support them. Give them a try and I am glad we tried it out.

But alas, we finally made it happen, and we had such a great experience. The tasting room is beautiful and grand, it was so cool to hear about the building and how it was restored. Tastings are by appointment, which you can book and schedule online. When you arrive the gate is closed and you buzz in to let them know you're there, so I probably wouldn't try to just walk in. As we approached the tasting room someone met us outside with our first taste of wine, such a nice touch. We sat inside at one of the comfortable couch settings, but they also had bar seating and bigger tables larger groups. You are also able to take your wine outside and explore a little bit, which we did. We noticed other groups with dogs, so they are dog friendly even inside! We were helped by Taylor who led us through the tasting, which was already set up and ready to go at the table when we arrived. Even though the wines were all out, she stopped in as we worked our way through them to talk about them a bit more. Including the welcome pour when we arrive, the tasting menu had 2 whites and 3 reds when we were in. We ended up trying a couple other wines that weren't in the tasting, and ended up getting bottles of the sensibility from the menu and a zin that was and off menu pour. Would absolutely come back here for an elevated and sophisticated wine experience that doesn't feel stuffy at all.

The tasting room was named one the top #19 wineries in Architectural Digest (August 2018) in the WORLD! And #2 of the top #19. Now that's amazing and well deserved! Lacey was our tasting room host and she was wonderful! She knew all the history and well described the wines. She didn't rush us and encouraged us to relax, wander around, and enjoy the tastes. We were on the fence about one of the wines, and she offered us an older vintage so we would know how it would taste in 10 years! That worked! We were very impressed with their wines and they definitely sell themselves! The inside is very roomy and comfortable. There is also seating with nice views, should you want to relax outside. Definitely have added Epoch to our list of wines to buy and places to visit for future Paso trips!

We also split the charcuterie board and chicken sandwich. The charcuterie was alright, but nothing amazing. Same for the chicken sandwich, overall pretty good but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat it here. The service was really great, and we enjoyed walking around the property after lunch. I'm definitely excited to come back on one of the days the mini train is running!

I'm sure you've heard of and tasted many of their items. Today it's wine with lunch. I picked up six for an anniversary celebration. This group forced me to sit and enjoy lunch with them. I was told by the "wonderful owner (a few years back) that this property is the only winery and restaurant in the country with a Michelin Star. I know it's difficult to obtain, I'm not sure how long that star lasts either. 90% percent of the dining is done on the patio surrounding the main room Our server Carley, she was pleasant and tolerated the guests (us) she served. Now the menu is short and expensive, more places & restaurants seem to going in that direction. I really wanted the tomahawk pork chop but I settled with the spring salad and a small portion of King Salmon. Justin's is known for their Burger and a side of truffle fries will put you back a bit. if you have to ask.... The wine was brought out one white and one red. I don't drink but both flavors were applauded. I ordered a bottle of sparkling water. The stories flowed, I didn't really know these folks, they were good AG people from Bakersfield. So we got acquainted, the most annoying thing were the flies. They had those table top fly spinners but on another table so that didn't help us much. The food was delicious, no question although the pasta dish with chicken for L had a very long and dark hair on it you really couldn't miss it. Other than that excitement we all enjoyed our meal. I had a couple slices of the pork, not as tender as I would have thought but it tasted real good. Salad a tad small but flavorful. I missed out on dessert, the wine was enough. Overall a very nice setting with a casual pace, perfect for those special occasions. The employees here are not motivated enough to be nice or attend the guests properly during the end of the day. The lady on the front desk in front of the entry was super rude. In a 3 mins conversation she mentioned at least 4 times how they were about to close and they are unable to provide us anything except the wine tasting. We had an appointment for 3:30 and the winery closes at 5:00. I would have understood if it was 4:30. I was celebrating my birthday and I mentioned it. It literally meant nothing to her and she never mentioned it in her notes while she mentioned that they will do a chocolate flight with a candle. The guy who helped us with our wine tasting was good but visibly tired. He tried his best. Even arranged a charcuterie board for us. He did mention they were about to close but that made sense. He was genuinely happy to see us when we went inside to pay. The only good deed done to us was asking us if we needed waters for the road. Also I liked the breezy fan feature. There wines are no better than the wines you get at the medium shelf of the drugstore. Views are just OK. Use your money at a better winery.
